In the near future, we will be making the following talent adjustments to Mages on the Titan Reforged server “Time”:
Mage – Frost
- Frost Mages will now have two distinct playstyle directions: Ice Lance and Frozen Orb.
- New Tier 1 Talent – Shroud of Winter:
- Reduces threat generated by your Frost spells by 10% / 20%.
- When Cone of Cold fails to hit a target, 15% / 30% of its Mana cost is refunded and its cooldown is reset.
- New Tier 7 Talent – Cold Front:
- Reduces Frost Nova cooldown by 10% / 20% / 30% / 40% / 50%. Increases Frost Nova damage by 15% / 30% / 45% / 60% / 75%, but it no longer freezes enemies in place. Damage to the nearest non-player enemy is increased to 3x.
- Reduces Cone of Cold Mana cost by 10% / 20% / 30% / 40% / 50%. Increases Cone of Cold damage by 4% / 8% / 12% / 16% / 20%. Damage to the nearest non-player enemy is increased to 3x.
- New Tier 8 Talent – Ice Spear:
- When the target is more than 15 yards away, Ice Lance deals 10% increased damage.
- Ice Lance deals 5x damage to frozen targets.
- New Tier 9 Talent – Frozen Orb:
- Launches a Frozen Orb forward, continuously firing large Frostbolts as it travels. Frostbolts deal low Frost damage to the first target hit. The orb deals slightly higher Frost damage to all enemies it passes through. When it reaches the end, it explodes, dealing moderate Frost damage. Enemies hit by Frozen Orb are slowed by 30% for 1.5 seconds.
- Frozen Orb benefits from all Frost-enhancing talents and also gains bonuses from World in Flames, Torment the Weak, and Spell Impact. Only the piercing damage of Frozen Orb can trigger Fingers of Frost and Brain Freeze.
- Fingers of Frost:
- Your chilling effects now have a 10% / 20% chance to trigger Fingers of Frost (up from 7% / 15%).
- Enduring Winter:
- Now a 1-point talent. Frostbolt will always trigger its Mana restoration effect.
- Brain Freeze:
- Now a 2-point talent. Your Frost damage spells with chill effects have an 8% / 15% chance to make your next Fireball or Frostfire Bolt instant, deal 15% / 30% more damage, and cost no Mana.
- Improved Frostbolt renamed to Improved Ice Bolt:
- Increases Frostbolt and Frostfire Bolt damage by an amount equal to 5% of your spell power. Reduces Frostbolt cast time by 0.15 / 0.3 seconds (up from 0.1 / 0.2).
- Chilled to the Bone:
- Now increases Frostbolt, Frostfire Bolt, and Ice Lance damage by 2% / 4% / 6% / 8% / 10% (up from 1% / 2% / 3% / 4% / 5%).
- Ice Lance Glyph renamed to Frozen Orb Glyph:
- Increases Frozen Orb’s explosion damage by 10%.
- Summon Water Elemental:
- Water Elemental no longer benefits from party buffs.
- It now scales with the Mage’s Haste and Crit Chance. It now inherits 50% of the Mage’s Spell Power (up from 33%).
- Freeze Mana cost reduced to 22% of base Mana (was 25%).
- These changes aim to keep its Mana consumption similar to before, even as it gains more casts from Haste.
- Mage
- Mirror Image: Mirror Images now inherit the Mage’s Haste and Crit Chance.
The core goal of this update is to introduce a new “Battle Mage” playstyle for Frost:
This playstyle focuses on instant-cast spells.
With Frozen Orb and Cold Front, rotations now revolve more around talent procs and short-cooldown abilities.
Players are encouraged to adjust positioning and casting range dynamically to maximize Frozen Orb damage.
At the same time, we want to preserve the competitiveness of the traditional Frost playstyle:
Improved Ice Bolt and Brain Freeze continue to support Frostfire-based rotations.
Ice Spear improves Ice Lance damage at long range, maintaining the Mage’s ranged identity.
Water Elemental buffs increase its overall value in the Frost tree.
“For Jaina!”
