One of the unstated (but definitely shown) goals with the talent tree changes was to equalize secondary stats for certain classes. This is easily apparent in the Havoc and Enh trees which have explicit mentions of crit and mastery stats.

I believe this nerf is an attempt to make the same change for Unholy. Already, the talent tree nerfs the relative value of haste by providing haste in ERW and Unholy Assault as well as attack speed from Ghoulish Frenzy. This change to the mastery should ultimately make Crit and Vers slightly more appealing as secondary stats. I doubt that this will replace Mastery as the best stat, but it should bring both stats closer to parity.Comment by paluchrobI find it funny the player base complains when things get nerfed after being overtuned, but if they started weak and got buffed to the same point that the nerfed classes where brought to, everyone is excited.
