The Mage Tower needs to be nerfed hard, as soon as possible. Blizzard already announced that the more difficult challenges would be brought in line with the easier challenges, but most challenges have not been addressed at all. Even if you follow mechanics, the DPS/HPS checks are too intense and you end up dying anyway unless you have the flawless execution of a pro-gamer, and have an optimized timewalking set. Blizzard failed to communicate beforehand that these would be more difficult than the original Legion ones, and more tightly tuned than any solo challenge and most group content this game has ever seen, leading to shock and disappointment by the majority of the playerbase. Blizzard's reputation, and the health of the game in terms of sub numbers, are even in more peril than they were before.
If you don’t want to do the challenge, don’t do it. The rewards are there as an incentive to go through the struggle; if it’s not worth it for you then don’t do it.They’re not that hard. It’s fine for some rewards to be locked behind skill; and it’s fine for some rewards to be exclusive to those who put the effort in. There is next to no challenging solo content in the game; Stop. Some of them need tweaking. Holy priest was the hardest for me by a landslide with sub rogue not too far behind due to the dps check, but this can be addressed with slight buffs and nerfs to the individual specs (like they’ve done), rather than nerfs across the board. If I ever see flat mage tower nerfs to all specs I will be very disappointed and you should be too. Cosmetic rewards are the perfect reward for a difficult challenge, You don’t have to do them.
I loved idea of optimising gear for timewalking. Blizz already ruined it for me when they messed it with disabling set bonuses and many of effects and scaling. They're doing the same thing by ruining gearing again with those nerfs. It's like: were you farming that cool trinket that's so good in TW or last 2 months? You can stop, because we nerfed it to the ground. Were you farming tbc heroics on multiple characters every day for last few weeks? look how your reward becomes worse than crafted gems - we love your tears. I like farming old gear to be a bit better no matter that I need to waste more time on farming than I'd need to finish challenge with worse gear, but runnig it better.I'd be also fine with templates where you don't need any gear and you need to focus on doing a perfect run. No fun with gearing, but you don't waste your time on it. Current nerfhammer is the worst option and it ruins the game for me. You waste hours on farming gear and you can vendor it because Blizz pushed another nerf. I can understnd that some efects may be just too strong, but since many players spent a lot of time farming it, they still should be a bit OP after the nerf - just close to alternatives
Mage Tower balance is pretty good, stop complaining and get good. Very nice motivation to actually learn new specs.
There's only two ways to do this really, and blizzard have cleverly avoided both. Either you allow current gear to work in the challenges and accept that will make them easier over time, like the original. Or give us a template to ensure it stays as intended forever. What we have now is a half baked thing that supposedly scales to a certain level but can still be made easier by hunting down some of the hundreds of old OP items that scale wrong before they may or may not get nerfed. TW gear is only a thing because blizzard forgot to squish it properly.
Here's my input. First point I want to make. Dratnos is just another commentator. He makes money providing, at times, controversial opinions. Otherwise, no one would watch him. The people Tettles should be interviewing are the Blizzard employees who make the decisions regarding the game. I want to know their thoughts on this subject. Are they happy with the data they are viewing as the result of the MT TW release? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but at the end of the day the only ones that matter are the employees making decisions at Blizzard.Second points...I've said this from the beginning, or I should say since they shut down the MT during Legion. The MT should have remained opened and been available to us through its normal rotation on the broke isle. They should have created it to scale with us. They should have added loot at the end. They could have implemented a system like Torghast where we can select a level. At the lowest levels people are only rewarded with gold. Only at the highest level, people have a chance at transmog gear. This would have allowed people of all capabilities the ability to practice and receive something as a reward for their person effort. This type of a system would encourage people to continue to run the MT with their characters regardless of if they completed it or not. I know one person who continues to run visions, because he claims it a good challenge and he prefers it over the MT. I did not care for visions. Torghast is okay, but really not as much of a challenge as the MT and it takes too long for solo content.Back when the MT originally came out it was difficult, and to some if felt impossible to complete. I on my main, a fire mage, started to attempt the mage tower at least once every time it was up until I completed my challenge. I did not start working on anyone else until their item levels were at or above the suggested item levels the community were providing. I do not consider myself a mythic raider and only once was I asked to consider mythic raiding, as a healer. I know my limitations and know I could not perform to the level necessary to be effective, so I declined. My main thing back in Legion were mythic+ and I ran heroic Antorus primarily on my mage. I was running keys at 15 on up on my mage and holy priest. I was running keys at 10 on up on my prot paladin. The remaining 19 alts (yes that many) I was running keys between 4 - 9, sometimes every week. I completed about 12 without help. I completed all class/spec for Feltotem's Fall, all priest specs, my mage's, elemental shaman and enhancement (never played as this spec before) shaman, feral druid, plus a handful of others.I did not think I could walk into these challenges and not be challenged. I laughed the first time I ran them. I know I'm out of practice. I made it to the third phase on my frost mage, and I was happy with that. I survived for almost four minutes on my elemental shaman, and I was happy with that. I was not happy with how my attempts ended when running as a holy priest and disc priest (one-shotted disc during Legion). I never attempted Closing the Eye during Legion, and almost fell out of my chair when I died so quickly as a frost DK. What was I thinking? I just wanted an idea what I was up against so I can make a plan. I strongly believe I will be able to complete a handful with a lot of effort on my part. Frost mage, holy priest, elemental shaman, feral druid, and windwalker monk should be completed during my up coming vacation. Prop paladin if I have time and can focus enough. Since the MT will only be available during TW Legion weeks after 01/04, I will probably be one of those who never complete all 7, nor will I receive all 12 transmogs.I don't think only making the MT available during a TW rotation will allow most people enough time to obtain the achievements, and I believe this is where the real problem is at. Blizzard will stop and think of what they need to do make help the community in order to see the numbers they want to see over time. It is obvious that nerfing it will upset people. It is equally obvious not nerfing it will upset people. It is the no win situation is why I say they missed the boat by only making this a TW event and not have scale it to us.I have a son who is a mythic raider. He was struggling in last week when they first came out. He kept saying he felt they were about 5% overtuned. He was able to complete elemental shaman, frost mage, windwalker monk, and was working on prot paladin last night when I went to bed. He's an adult and has a job, so it isn't like he lives in my basement playing this all day... So I know it will take me at least twice as long to finish mine. I trust his opinion over most because I know his skill in comparison to mine. I know how he ranks (wowcraftlogs) in terms of keys and raids. I've seen him at 97% and even 100% ranking. So I trust him when he says, it feels overtuned. This does not mean I feel Blizzard should, or will, nerf the towers. Thanks for reading
In a move that surprises no one, Blizzard fails to balance content.
As a hunter I took a look on the transmog, laughed, shaked my head, and turn away.
Not quite understand your point. If you can complete the Tower challenge - you should have at least basic understanding of the spec. And there is a mount, aside mogs.
Blizzard added the Mage Tower back because the community asked for it, over and over, for a great many years......and in typical Blizzard fashion they made it into the worst possible version they could. I want to do Mage Tower because I missed it during Legion because of work and family... but I really don't want to farm out obscure ChromieTime items, and I also feel terrible for supporting Blizzard Entertainment during their giant scandal, even it it was just using a token sitting on my character. If this was Final Fantasy 14 releasing Legacy Content all I would have to do is log in and Que up for it, but with Blizzard they have to add a grind and extra hoops for me to jump through... and I value my time a lot more than they do apparently. I don't know if I'm going to be able to beat Kruul or not, but after this I'm not going to come back for 9.2.I really think that Blizzard needed a win, probably more than they ever did before, and once again they managed to somehow grasp defeat from the jaws of victory. (As a side note, 4 of my guildies got the FelWerebear form by doing the exploit with 50UL-TR4P engineering item on Wednesday which, although they themselves actually reported it during the PTR, somehow made it to live. So.... that alone tarnishes the accomplishment people associate with success here)
Change it back to way it was on the PTR problems solved!
Gear should be ignored and you get a set amount of stats determined by the mage tower.Be nice if consumables were disabled but that'd be no fun for AH millionaires.Atleast this way it'd be easier for blizzard to determine an exact difficulty for everyone.Right now an average trinket can be 10k less dmg on kruul in P2 than for example if u have the mechagon trinket. That's just wrong :D
While I get both camps of the argument, I think one of my major issues is like...doing the same thing repeatedly for attempts on end, that require 100% of my focus the entire time, is absolute hell for me? It's not fun and I get agitated because I'd rather do other things? I avoid much of end game for the same reason (I run keys but I have friends who spam the same instance repeatedly for an item drop and that utterly boggles me). They point out that a lot of the content I enjoy doing is also repetitive such as mount running and achievement hunting, but a lot of that allows me to multi task or at least daydream without screwing up the chance of the rewards. I've been trying it on my Frost Mage and my current issue is my reaction time to the soaks and navigating my stupid water elemental. Get overwhelmed by adds. I know if I keep trying I can definitely do it, but...I'm so sick of it lol.I'm not saying that I expect Blizzard to make changes accommodating my tastes, that would be entirely unreasonable and there is an audience for difficult challenges where the expectations is to do attempts for hours on end. What I AM saying is that I recently downloaded ESO because the only new content to come out this patch is literally old content but scaled differently, and I'm tired of Blizzard's tactics of artificially inflating player engagement.
