Wasn't it the whole point that neither arthas nor sylvannas have been under his control only got goated into a direction? And i don't see much forgivness for Sylvannas. The difference is that they could stop sylvannas without killing her and Arthas killed us allready and won, he only got killed in a last resort deus ex machina moment.Sylvannas would not be where she is today if arthas would not have gone down that road he did by himself. Slyvannas choices have been her own but why would she forgive him?Jaina allready had closure with arthas in wotlk. I still would like for blizz to expand on this cinematics. They are to short and don't explain enough. Like the two ghosts that suddenly appear.
Steve Danuser: But your legacy... is at an end. Begone, then, Old Blizzard, May the last whisper of your name fade... and be forgotten. Also the reason Varian and Saurfang are there is because shalamayne is like a reverse frostmourne and creates a backup of people's souls in a good way. I'm joking but this lore is a joke.
So, I think the cinematic has some hits and some misses, and those misses are pretty profound for what is meant to be the final chapter of the Fallen Prince. One thing we need to remember is that. in Wrath, we learn the Lich King took great pains to excise the “Arthas” out of himself. So up until the final cinematic, we are dealing with solely the Lich King, which was an amalgam of Arthas, Nerzul and some other entities (excluding the Jailer, but not a bad place to insert his influence). When we kill the Lich King, we see what is *left* of Arthas, but really, the Arthas we “grew up with” in the RTS was long ago destroyed. But we were never going to see a redeemed Arthas - Let’s say Uther never intervened, and Arthas went to the Arbiter. Well, Arthas would have ended up in Revendreth, and Denathrius would have arranged for Arthas to be fast-tracked into the Maw. Devos having Uther “break protocol” was more to bolster the efforts to destabilize Bastion than anything else. But there are three major misses Blizzard took, which would have landed the narrative of the cinematic. 1. Arthas’ soul remnant should have been engaged in the weakening of the domination magic that bound Anduin. A last small cry of defiance, even if it was just a fissure. A simple cinematic of the soul “pouf” getting erratic, a glance from Anduin to that spark, a slight nod of the head before Anduin’s final push to free himself - knowing in that moment, at that time, he was to make the effort. Not only would that have given Arthas something of a final “FU” to the Jailer, but would have dovetailed nicely with the parallels Blizzard was setting up between the two princes - with the Fallen Prince using the last of himself to save a fellow prince from the same fate.2. Jaina’s lack of response. Now, we know that Jaina had come to terms with what happened with Arthas, but it would still be soul-wrenching for her to see what had become of the man she once loved. We didn’t need much, but there was enough lingering Arthas-spark for Jaina to at least have reacted.3. Uther. Uther should have been extremely sorrowful - again, trying to keep the cinematic to time, but as far as Uther is concerned, Anduin’s domination is a direct consequence of Uther breaking procedure and yeeting Arthas to the Maw. His reaction in the cinematic to seeing the full consequences of his actions should have been more prevalent. While I get wanting to give Sylvanas the epilogue because this has largely been her arc, honestly Arthas Menelthis was many things to many people. So:Jaina: Goodbye, Arthas. I will always remember the man you were before you chose to go down the path of ruin. Uther: Forgive me, Arthas. I should have listened to you when you had doubt in your heart. And I forgive you. I will seek to use this tragedy to bring good to The Shadowlands.Anduin (voco sotto): They will never understand, but I will always remember. Thank you for always being there, in the dark, helping me hold my sanity. I now understand what you had gone through for so long.Sylvanas: ... But your legacy... is at an end. Begone, then, Arthas Menethil. May the last whisper of your name fade... and be forgotten. This gives us:1. Jaina’s closure.2. Uther’s closure.3. Gives Prince Arthas some final, subtle vengeance on the Jailer (and counterposes him with Nerzul who meekly submitted to the Jailer’s punishment.)4. The final word for the representative of all of Arthas’ victims.
Guys, all is good, because Sylvanas like had her soul split and was manipulated, there's definitely not any parallel where Arthas was dominated by the helm of ...domination. /s
This Danuser or Denasur or whatever the *!@# his name is, he is pretty messed up, he has literally no brain or whatsoever when it comes to warcraft lore. He is pure evil and just reaffirming what JRR Tolkien said: "Evil can not create anything new, they can only corrupt what good forces of have invented or made.".
Was this written by more than one person? The shift of the actual spelling of Varian to Varion is odd.
I still don't understand why would the Jailer still use Arthas' soul. I mean, when he was serving as his pawn, Arthas was 'soul-less', his soul was in Frostmourne. Then again, this is where I ask an existential question : what is and isn't driven by the SOUL?Is your ability to be cruel not something that relates to the soul? The ability to be sarcastic? Because the Death Knight Arthas wasn't like Dominated Anduin (who speaks only when the Jailer wants to speak through him.Death Knight Arthas had the freedom to speak for himself. So was he not just like Sylvanas? Just a shard of his soul left, not the one allowing him to feel compassion or anything like that, just what the Lich King / the Jailer needed to use him?Eitherway, admittedly, Arthas' soul might have a lot of anima, sure, why not... but how does it help 'dominate' Anduin?"Oh hello there, I'm the soul in your sword, I see you're also a blond prince with abilities related to the Light? That's neat!" how does that help? The ENTIRE ARC with Anduin is just pathetic, when you see how the Jailer wasn't able to make a better 'pawn' out of him, as he just 'had to divide Shalamayne in two' to break the entire domination he was afflicted with (and sure, I'll conceed it might not be an easy task and requires a strong will, possibly far stronger than Arthas had). But in that (short) time Anduin was dominated, the writers failed to make Anduin do anything he would REALLY regret, like kill friends or anyone of importance. Even the Archonte Kyrestia made it ok. Anduin doesn't even have any physical memento from his time being dominated. Could've kept his hair white for a while, at least. I mean, the Jailer 'reforged' Shalamayne' with a physical blacksmith hammering at it, and that's gone. His entire armor just evaporated like 'shut up it's magic'.It's like... what was even the point of all of this?Yeah sure, to know from Anduin how to resist the Jailer's Domination, great.
At this point I'm just convinced they're pulling a "The Last Jedi", as in "let the past die", on WoW just to be done with the "old" story because of all the #$%^ that has happened. There is in my eyes no other way to explain this many holes and inconsistencies at this point. It just hurts, the level of disrespect to "legacy characters" (Star Wars anyone?). It's *!@# imho and almost unbearable for me. Doesn't mean that others can't like it, I'm glad for everyone who gets a kick out of things.Maybe it's for the better to get done with this ASAP. I pray to whomever for 10.0 to be the reboot we need. But hopes are quiet low to be honest :/BUT after saying all this... I still think the art and cinematics Teams are top notch, and the voice actors did a fantastic job.
