I have a very interesting suggestion on this profession that may make it a little bit more bearable.
I got 3 rares and 1 epic before I got maxed out. Now I am just waiting for the alchemy recipe. That's the whole reason I took up archeology in the first place! Haha.
this profession is dumb. what a waste of time. I DONT WANT CAREBEAR ITEMS I WANT A DAMN USEFUL WEAPON
The fossilized proto drake remains were a letdown as well. That would have been incredibly nice. And night elf artifacts are all over Northrend as well if you want to work on some axes or the box. ( the box was kind of a let down, but at least the cooldown on it isn't ridiculous like the rest of the items.)
I didnt even try Archeology yet.
I agree with argument #3 of SephirothPZC's post, and only #3. Archaeology is a profession that nobody needs for anything. It's just for cool items (but honestly, the BoA pre-85s will rarely be used), mounts, and titles. I think having 4 dig sites per continent is a healthy number, because pretty much everyone is flying at 320% these days with the guild perk. This isn't the type of profession people will be grinding out as fast as possible unless they have nothing better to do anyway.People get capped on fossils first, usually before they're even at 400, and after that they are just junk dig sites. Being able to turn them off would be super helpful.
Archeaology would be good if you could choose what to dig/research. TBH, it's a pain in the ass to farm the really rare ones.I'm at 17 rares, so "only" need the top end rare ones (dwarf, nelf, troll and ALL tol'virs).Nerubian was ^&*! aswell, I have over 1000 Vrykul fragments and for what good?I have over 2000 fossil fragments and none of the top end rares.Right now I focus more on getting any of the damn patheticly low droprate epics than the professor title.I don't see any fun at all in doing archaeology, and then I mean with the fossils keep spawning all *!@#ing retarded time.Archeaology is fun till you have ~12 rares. If you dont want the professor-title, then don't go further, trust me.Been digging since few days after I dinged 85 (3 days from release). And been digging 1-10h a day since then. Over 400 solves since I dinged 525. And can probably solve another 100 with only fossils and vrykuls. No Blizzard, so far you failed with archaeology. At least fishing gives someting (good gold even!) after you hit 525. This just feels like an endless First Aid farm...for something that almost don't exist.HOWEVER:What I do now tho, to feel less pain. Farm Tol'vir (or nelf) till I can solve at least 2 Tol'vir (without Heiros) and have 500+ Nelf fragments. Then I go EK and farm 500+ of both Troll and Dwarf, and then I solve them all. If it takes 2 days to get them all, well let it take 2 days then.At least I will most of the time live with the knowledge that I might have any of the new rares, instead of solving them every time I can, just to always look forward for next Tol'vir, nelf, troll or dwarf solve.ALSO suggested to blizz that every digsite you dig in, will have a chance to give you a clue for same type of race digsite on same continent (removing one that ain't same). If you have 3 troll-sites and 1 fossil, you use the troll one and remove the fossil and pop a troll, so that you have 4 troll sites. Droprate do not need to be high, around 10%/dig or so, just so you cant dig for troll 24/7 (which probably everyone want tho).
that trollface got me :D
I enjoy it during the day when nothing is going on. It also allows me to get some fishing done while doing it. I find it pretty useful for the time being. I don't see what everyone is complaining about really. Nothing is fun if you don't take the time to enjoy yourself. Blizzard made rares for a reason...for them to be RARE..not super easy to get.
I've been ever so slowly leveling it up, and I like it. I can't say that I love it, because there's no denying how tedious it can get, but it's been entertaining enough for me to keep chipping away at. It's one of those cathartic, mind-numbing things I can do after a long day to just zone out.I've picked up a hatchling and the Druid and Priest Statue so far... who are they supposed to be anyway? I feel like I'm missing something painfully obvious.(And half of my captcha was paleozoic. Hah!)
I leveled up Archaeology to get the Alchemy recipe and little else, but after getting it maxed and farming for hours just for the hope of a Tol'vir digsite just is not worth the effort. It is much easier to save up the extra gold and have some other lucky/incredibly dedicated alchemist make my mount for me. I just can't justify the extreme boredom it would take to get it. I just about gouged out my eyes just getting Archaeology up to 450. Everything past that has been pure torture, so much so that I've burned myself out on WoW and haven't been able to bring myself to play in the past few days past a cooking or fishing daily and my daily Truegold transmute. With the sheer number of complaints about Archaeology I won't be surprised if Blizzard doesn't do some serious reworking of it with the next patch. If they do and I haven't forked over the obscene amount of gold already to have my mount crafted for me I'll try and get it when they do change Archaeology. Until that change Archaeology just isn't worth the HUGE time sink and boredom.
Flying back and forth from STV to EPL is not enjoyable.
its boring
It's a good thing to do when you're a dps in the LFG and are waiting to queue.
