And why adding just now since they will permanently shutdown in China? This doesn't make sense.
While it is possible for players in China to play on US and EU servers (e.g. via using UU-Booster) the main problem, apart from latency, is paying the subscription, which requires a credit card. By adding Alipay and WeChat Blizzard removes a huge hurdle. With servers in e.g. Hong Kong WoW should play fairly similar to before.
If they really are that commonly used then why weren't they added years ago?
Where's that sweet Apple Pay at?
maybe a requirement for continuing business in china?
It will be awesome if Blizzard can also add QIWI as an option for payment too. Russians now have to primarily buy Blizzard products from resellers, which as you know is quiet inconvenient.
we will probably see some chinese players in EU now, until China is back in business again. But tbh, I would also go play on chinese servers if everything else would be shut down so it's understandable. Let's see how it pans out in the next few months
huh? Oo
I'd say this means Blizzard are going to host the servers for China, similar to the opening of "Global" on the other post. Thus, they add the payment systems to their systems because they only use those in China. Taiwan does not use them, and Blizzard had no involvement of the game host in China, therefore they never previously existed. Now they do which indicates what I've said.
It is just a walk-around, not great for players efforts among the years
This is a weird article - these payment methods have been available for at least six months in the US.
