I farmed in 2 groups: each had a method they preferred.

Group1 = crabs/spiderthings/seaworms/etc all along the southern coast and a touch inland around bubble-jumpy. Slower pulls, but felt more steady in terms of drop rate. When Zek would spawn, we'd roll west, kill his adds, and then Zek, then head back east. Repeat.

Group2 = outside Vault (whole beach). Faster/bigger pulls but mobs-to-frag drops was less considering the kill counts. I'd say the frag drop pacing was about the same as Group1 though. I think the elites (grab aquatic ones too) have better drop chances here. The blessed iron currency rate was nice - consider that too. 3k farming 3 frags in about 2hrs.

In short:
Group1 = slower/fewer kills, so probably a higher percentage on non-hyperspawning enemies.
Group2 = faster/5x or more kills than G1 in the same timeframe, but has a lower frag drop rate to balance. Upside was currency.

I preferred Group2. There were dry streaks (on both) and Group2 felt worse when that happened, but the kill count/pacing/currency offset it.

Epic Warbound BoE's dropped decently in both groups.

Also, RNG is RNG!

Farming all 7 took just about 2 hours for me. I was in a group of 5, so not the typical 2x4 setup. We went back and forth between 42, 28 and 40, 19 with the majority of farming happening at the former.

Everyone seems to have varying drop rates. One person in my group said they were getting one every 30 minutes or so. Someone else got 3 within a 15 minute window. Personally, I got my first 5 in the first hour, then the last 2 in the last 10 minutes of my second hour. I'd say set aside at least 2 hours if you want to get all of these in one session.

For gear I got 3-4 584-590 WuE items and 14-15 558-561 BoE items.

I didn't keep great track of the iron, but I'd say I ended up with somewhere between 2k - 3k from the farm alone.

farming for about 5 hrs in and out of grps for zek and mobs ...saw post about fishing and 2nd cast got cyclonic key, about an hour later kill zek and got torrent frag...this is a long grind ppl esp for solo players
join a grp when you can and farm, its still a long grind but least you have comapny!

Unsure about the drop rates, for stats these were my drops.

1st - Got while questing, didn't track
2nd - 1035 kills (geez)
3rd - 318 kills
4th - 211 kills
5th - 227 kills
6th - 267 kills
7th - 112 kills (nice)

All in all, took me about 1hrs 2min farming by the Kvaldir hyperspawn spot.

They had to have nerfed the drop rate on these. I've spent 3+ hours here with my husband....between the two of us killing everything we came across, and spending an hour + a the skeleton cave entrance...... I have 1. He has 0. I'm not sure how these skeletons have a 48% drop rate with this

How did these people farm all of them in a couple of hours? I just spent 2 hours killing everything on sight and in big packs and I did not get a single one. I've even made enough Flame-Blessed Iron to get 2 cosmetics sets in that time.

I'm doing this solo, but at least almost on 10k now for the mount.

In about 45 minutes from the cave spawn, 1000 kills for 5 frags, got super lucky.
The first 2 came from zek spam, going for that runekey.

It seems to me that this is a daily drop. I just started to farm them yesterday. I got one yesterday and one today. Is it a daily drop and can you use the trick to turn off auto loot and let them be mailed to you? I'm gonna try to test it after daily reset tomorrow. Will post findings!

This hypothesis by Sorrowheart may be correct:

I have finally worked out the new drop rate. I did it on two accounts to verify it. You have to kill a minimum of 100 mobs in an hour during the storm that would give you loot, for a maximum drop of one fragment per hour. I was killing over 100 mobs/hour on my warlock and was getting the fragment exactly one minute past the hour. I took six hours. I did this on my wife's account as well on her hunter.

Today, I entered Siren Isle and accepted the "Hungry, Hungry Snapdragon" quest at 11:19:16. I then spent an hour killing things in the Seafury Tempest phase. I killed Zek'ul several times, farmed Brinebound Wraiths, killed other rares, and finally got my first Torrential Fragment from a Brinebound Wraith at 12:20:35.

Later same day, I farmed The Sacred Hollow area exclusively (in front of cave around 45, 23). I got the remaining 6 fragments as follows:
- 15:27:19 - started
- 15:34:52 - fragment 2
- 15:50:49 - fragment 3
- 16:21:58 - fragment 4, stopped
- 20:44:48 - started
- 20:57:18 - fragment 5
- 21:14:28 - fragment 6
- 21:17:36 - fragment 7, done

There may be bad luck protection if you don't get any fragments after killing at least 100 mobs in an hour. However, if you farm consistently, the drop rate is better than that.

Some ppl are saying it got nerfed, but as of today (12-23-2024) I´ve farmed the 7 out of the cave in less than 2 hours.

Yet another very daunting grind that is expected to be done for a mount, and while yeah we shouldn't be handed it. I have literally spent about three hours killing mobs and Zek'ul, and have only gotten one so far. Some are reporting getting their fragments in that amount of time, others are seeing none at all, the core of the issue is that the fragments are blatantly too rare right now. I'm all for working for a mount, working towards the prismatic snapdragon currently. Yet when it's leaps and bounds easier to get three of the five keys, granted one is a guanrteed drop, and another is available at all times during the storm. Having the last two keys be such a high RNG grind just makes this mount unappealing to even go for, I hope they buff the drop rates. Yet as it stands I and several others are gonna pass on this given it's another complete disrespect to ones time to be expected to spend this much time grinding for a mount.

Took me about 2 hours in a 5-man group farming skeletons outside the vault cave, 1534 kills for myself, group was constantly refreshing itself once someone got all 7 we immediately invited another person. Sometimes there would be long gaps where nothing would drop at all, and then suddenly like 2-3 in a row. One guy got 3 torrentials within a couple mins, crazy lucky.

What was nice was a Horde group also nearby, farming on the other side, so mobs were constantly respawning with zero downtime. Gl all.

What I would like to see getting implemented in the game is the possibility to obtain certain items with currency or on a weekly basis. Example: I need Torrential Fragments. I can complete a quest once per week and receive 1 or I could buy 1 for a reasonable amount of coins (say 10k), without limits. Alternatives. It's all I ask for. Some people don't mind waiting.

My first frag dropped in an hour of cave entrance farming. I stopped farming after 2 hours. Got 2nd frag from a zek kill later in the day. Got my 3rd frag after 4 hours of farming at the cave entrance. I finally got too bored with the abysmal drop rates and quit an hour after my 3rd frag. 7 hours of farming skeletons/rares for 2 frags is wild. Any reason to keep people on the isle though i guess.

Update: i eventually got the last of the frags all from zek. Apparently my rng with skeletons is extremely terrible but zek was giving 1 every 3 kills.

Seems like a pain in the butt, but I got 5 fragments in under 2 hours in a group farming the brine skeletons near the forgotten vault
It's completely RNG of course, as a warlock in our group got 2 in 3 minutes, but mine were probably about 10-15 min apart.
I dont think it was nerfed that much, as I saw around 10 drop for the party in those 2-ish hours.

If you're farming skeletons, get the Crawler mines from the base camp. One or two people using these effectively can keep the northern coastline cleared which can enable a single 5-man group to trigger hyperspawning by the inlet ~50 yards south of the coast, greatly speeding up acquisition.

Take it from me, I spent 5 hrs farming groups in zek kills and another hr or so in a group killing skellies buy the vault....go with the farm groups by the vault....I got 3 frags from Zek in 5 hrs of groups...I got my other 4 frags in the group by the vault in a little over an hr.

The odd of getting this fragment from the Brinebound Wraith is MUCH, MUCH less than the 33% chance shown above (as of this date). I have killed literally HUNDREDS of these over the past several days, and I have found exactly 5 --- yes 5, --- out of the required 7 needed. Someone please adjust those odds because at least with this mob the odds are way off.

The only reason I am here is because I got the other 4 keys while doing other stuff here. I wouldn't bother with mounts otherwise.

IMO, anything more than a 10% drop for something like this, is either wrong or PTR numbers.

I don't even know what the drop rate is anymore. Wowhead lists Brinebound Wraith as 33% and Water-Scarred Skeleton as 9%.
I've killed THOUSANDS of brinebound wraiths and hundreds of water-scarred skeletons, and the only fragment I got was from one of the major excavation bosses...
From the comments, it clearly is possible to get these, so what am I doing wrong? :\

Was aimlessly farming Zek and other rares today and two had dropped. One from Zek and one from Slaughtershell. Considering the low drop rate, the spawn rates of the rares are high enough and close enough to farm them instead of the skeletons.

This is a pain to get all 7 fragments, but I got 5 tonight pretty easily :

- During Week 3 only, activate the storm mode, and take the weekly quest with the robots ('Juicing up and Storming Out'), equip a robot, and you can kill easily pretty any mob.

- If the quest isn't available, i positioned myself around this point north west of the map (43.46, 23.83), in the area in front of the Forgotten Vault. There are tons of weak mobs called 'Brinebound Wraith' which respawn very quickly. In 1h30 i got my 5 fragments.

- Killing Zek over and over was personally pointless for me, and I wasted way too much time on this.

These comments would have you believe this is WoW's most daunting grind, but in a group outside the vault it takes about an hour. 3/5 people in my group were done slightly before me and the last guy had 5 when I finished, so I don't think we had any insane RNG. If you can, have half the group farm the north side and half farm the south side. Every few mins go loot the other side. It's not bad at all.

TR-06 Pummeler that has become available this week with quest Juicing Up and Storming Out makes farming these fragments trivial with huge pulling possibilities, highly recommend using the mech as a grinding aid.

Collected all the others and left this one last! Took everyone’s advice on here and the one that worked for me was being in a group outside the vault farming the Brinebound Wraith in the area! Managed to get all 7 within approximately 1 hour 30 mins with a break in between! :-) good luck!

And now I have the mount I noticed the blue square around it… not sure that is meant to be there 👀

So after spending 4 days soloing and only getting 2 fragments, I went into a group of 5 and got the remaining ones in 1/2 hour (30 minutes). Do not bother with rares especially Zek. Just farm the coastline outside the Forbidden Vault in storm mode in a group. Remember to take Crawler Mines as these are best out of the lot.

Created a rarity string at the beginning of my group farm.
Ended up with 3300+ kills to get 7 (not counting all the other mobs I had killed before).

So, got one after every 18 minutes = all of them after a little over 2 hours.

Farmed it yesterday on Kvaldir at the entrance to the Vault, spot exactly in front of it where fishing location is marked above - one Tidewalker comes from the mountain there and 2-3 spawn inside water just next to the land. Additionally Slaughtershell has chance to spawn nearby. I had one fragment already as it had dropped randomly from elite or rare earlier same day. I was part of raid group consisting of 6 to 10 characters. 2-3 people were inside goblin mechs almost all the time.
It took me almost 2 hours to find remaining 6 fragments. But I think I was on lucky side as group leader had been there through all this time and didn't get his fragments as far as I know - he was still missing 1 or 2 when I was done and this group had been there already for 1h before I joined.

I decided against farming them at the entrance because that is very exhausting imo. I decided to try out farming it simply by serverhopping Zek'ul. For transparency: I had two of them dropped, because I farmed Crackleroar in the downtime of groups, which is very close to Zek'ul to farm around 40/60.
For serverhopping in general: I had drop fragments, roughly once per hour. Which is the better deal for me, than farming at the cave entrance, since it requires less attention and you can just watch netflix on the side. =)

I farmed up four of these fragments last week, and now after a reset, they are nowhere to be found in my bags. I looted one today and then looked in my bags to only find this one. What is happening? Are these meant to disappear if you exit the storm? Or after a reset? I do not know when they disappeared but I want them back. Ticket already submitted to Blizz.

As of January 9th 2025, the drop rate on these is ridiculous.

I farmed for 5 hours near the cave, got 0 fragment. I am in the Storm version of the island.

I don't know if the trick is to get in a group or 5 or if this has no impact on drop rate.

Just in case those new to these postings are looking for answers - you must be in the storm to get any of the keys.

Thanks to the comments here, I cast about 45 times (every two, increasing my Fishing Experience) and got the Cyclonic Rune Key right next to Zek'ul. I did this within the first hour after reset in the morning.

I noticed the drop rate for Torrential Fragments had risen to 34% with the Brinebound Wraith mobs around the Forgotten Vault entrance.

The new difference was that I jumped into the TR-06 Plummer and avoided almost all mobs until I got to that area around the vault. I did the same thing with my other alts. I had one Torrential Fragment drop during my first period in the area fighting. Of course, by completing the quest, I also got a Raw Singing Citrine to increase my ring again. The rate is not close to what we would like, but we can probably get the mount within a week at one a day. There are additional soft resets at 2 pm and 7 pm server times. If they provide the same results, that time could be significantly reduced.

I did notice on this first week of the Turbulent Timewalking week after the Celebration period, where most of us have increased your ring over 640, and your gear is moving up to and above ilvl 619, the mobs, including Zek'ul the Shipwrecker, have become more manageable. Where it was taking a raid-level group to take him down last week, it is only taking 5-6 of us to take him down. This morning, it only took my ilvl 616 warrior and warlock to take him down.

Just got all the fragments and based on my experience it took around 10 minutes for one fragment to drop. Overall it took me 70 mins, but done in two days. So right now its not that bad, GL!

My Wife and I just put in the grind for these...
It actually wasn't as bad as we thought. Just ensure you farm DURING the Storm Phase.

We killed the mobs outside the Forgotten Vault Cave Entrance. They are constantly respawning
Within a few mins she got her first Fragment and then 3 more followed within the hour, whereas for me it took over an hour just for one.
By around 2 hours my wife had all 7, by this point I had 4.
It took me just under 3 hours of constant farming to get all of mine.

Just a heads up if joining a LFG, make sure it's a Party (Maximum 5) and not a raid, if it's a raid group you have to tag the mobs to be able to loot, whereas in a Party you do not have to tag and can loot anyone's kills which helps massively as you can split up and hit all spawn points and alternate to loot each side.

There is noo way Brinebound Wraith has 30% of drop. This is definitely a mistake.
I farmed 3 fragments from Water-Scarred Skeleton and 2 from Brinebound Wraith at the moment. 2 more left.

I'd say fragments from these has the same % of drop. But there are waaaay more people farm fragments from Brinebound Wraith

In case anyone is wondering, you can get in the TR-06 Pummeler and still get the Torrential Fragments to drop. It's just really bad RNG. I managed to get two fragments in about two hours in the pummeler clearing the Brinebound Wraith by the Cyrce cave, and the water skeletons by the rare Zek'ul

The pummeler robot makes it easy to solo everything, but you have to go back to base every 15 minutes to get a fresh one.

I’m averaging about one per day. Haven’t seen one drop off the mobs in front of the vault. Most of mine are off Slaughtershell or Zek’ul. I kill every rare spawn I can. I have one left. Hopefully I’ll get the mount today!

I got 1 of these randomly, then got the next 6 in about an hour and a half and tracked my attempts by adding a custom item on rarity. It took 2538 attempts to get the 6 that I tracked. I know there's a lot of comments complaining about the drop rate but its really not that bad, I'd even say it was pretty fun. I was in a group of 5 which I found in custom (make one yourself if there aren't any), and we were all using the mechs you get in the storm phase (you have to go back and get a new one every 15 minutes but its got a movement ability to make that quick). You farm it outside the forgotten vault near Slaughtershell: /way Siren Isle 43.75 25.97

Just mow down all the mobs in that area, they spawn pretty much instantly. Everyone was getting drops and a few people left and more joined in the time I was there. This is honestly so easy compared to the crackling shards farm. You don't need to do the once a day stuff people have mentioned if you do it this way.

While farming Stormtouched Pridetalons, I got two Crackleroar pets before one fragment. I first thought they must not be in the possible drop list, but they are. So at least I got pets to show for my frustration.

I tried outside the vault and got 1 with about 2hrs of grinding. Then going for the cyclonic, I kept running up and down the shore line from Ship Wrecker boss to the Treent boss killing everything in between. I got 5 in about 3hrs...but I have been stuck at 6 stones for the last 2 days.

Okay, so I got 3 of those while working on the Siren's isle meta, only to sell them along with some trash items. And of course you can't restore them as those are stackable items. Why are these sellable at all, Blizzard? :(

Today I farmed 7 pc after about 20 minutes. In storm phase take a robot and go to northwest coach. Find party - it is totally faster. :) Good luck. :)

By far the best way to farm these is to join a random group, get into a TR-06 crowd pummeler beside Suzie, and farm things at the Jetsam Drift outside The Forgotten Vault. I got two fragments while completing every other activity on the isle, and the remaining five in under two hours by doing this.

Based on the loot everyone else was getting, I was not particularly lucky. This suggests drop rates have been changed since other comments here talk about being throttled to one per hour.

Here's a Rarity string for this. Note that it can't detect whether you're in the storm or not, so it'll have a lot of false attempts if you aren't.

Easiest way that I found to farm this was by using the TR-06 and glitching into "The Drain" area during the storm event.

Hop into the TR-06 and immediately run over to the entrance of the drain event.
It will usually have a wooden barricade over it blocking you from entering.
(The barricade breaks periodically. This just lets you bypass it without the wait.)

Use the shield charge ability above the hole to run and jump towards the top level of the barricade.
Keep jumping forward until you slide through the barricade.
You will get teleported out once, but the second time should let you stay.

Now that you're inside start killing the slimes, everything will die almost instantly to the bullet barrages except the humanoids.
You have around 15 minute in the TR-06 before it runs out of power.

Once it gets close to running out of power simply walk towards the exit and it should teleport you out.
If it doesn't, get out of the TR-06 and it will instantly teleport you out.

Repeat until you have enough fragments.
Unlike the Brinebound Wraiths the enemies are concentrated in a small area making it much easier to walk around and kill them.

They have a very very low drop chance. After reading the comments in English I was very disappointed, some said that after several hours of farming nothing came out of them. But I decided to take it easy. When you enter the storm, on the island, farm for a while in the skeleton area outside the Forgotten Vault cave, it is the best place to farm the fragments. If I got tired, I would leave it there and go play with an alt. Then I went back to farming for a while, I realized that I got a fragment more or less every half hour, of course with constant farming... sometimes I was lucky and I got 2 in half an hour. I closed the session and continued the next day, half an hour more and changed character... so as not to get bored so much and to keep the storm active in a character. Don't complete storm quest even if it is finished since the skeletons only appear in active storms. In a week or so with half an hour of farming I was able to complete it. And btw.. farming with the robot is pretty much boring even when it's faster but less eficient since it has a time limit usage, i prefered the normal rotation of my class.

I discovered this by accident but, The Drain (Where Gravesludge spawns) is an AMAZING spot for farming these. The adds hyperspawn and the area is very small. I could get 2 fragments by myself in 1h and then in a group of 3 I got all the others in less than 2h. Aside from the fragments I got a bunch of BoE, more than 2k Flame-blessed Iron, a bag with 600 more Iron and the items for the Earthen civilian recolors drop in there too. 10/10

I farmed all the rest of the things I needed for all the other Runekeys in just this one farming session. But I haven't seen even one Torrential Fragment.

I'm starting to think they may be a myth.

This would be bearable if we found the fragments as we played the isle's content. But there's not enough content.

If you've done all of the isle's content and achievements and you're STILL grinding these fragments, then they've missed the mark on the drop rate. This sort of grind is not exactly the kind of peak gameplay design that I'm going to be telling my friends.

For anyone still needing to farm this - I recommend getting a group of 1-3 people all using the storm shredder and farming in The Drain during the Storm. 2 Others and I were all able to farm our 7 fragments within a few hours as the mobs respawn very quickly in a concentrated area making it very easy to farm them. You will get teleported out of the cave at first, but once you go back in the 2nd time, you’ll be fine if you stay near the water. If the gate is up, you can get by it by using the 3rd ability on the shredder and jumping toward the right side of the entrance.

Just finished the grind, the cave+mech method was definitely the fastest. The skeletons are too far apart and spawn with much bigger ads.
I needed 6 fragments and it took exactly 8 mechs / 2 hours, some mechs didn't get any but last one got 2. Dropped around 8k gold worth of vendor trash.
Also, you can get through the top of the wooden barricade if you kinda wiggle around there.

You need 7x Torrential Fragment on the same character to create Torrential Runekey.
Torrential Fragment are soulbound (currently while writing this), not warbound.
There doesn't seem to be account-wide limitation to get this - as some have pondered this. Just the droprate sucks.

As you probably have already read that the RNG/low drop rate is absolute horrid for Torrential Fragment.
So for reals just prepare to be doing this for a while - get snacks, drinks and have some YT videos ready to watch, and/or watch whole LotR extended versions.

What I did:
I played as Windwalker Monk, ilevel 641, and without a goup.
At the beginning I also used TR-06 Pummeler before by the end switched to Crawler Mine
At first I killed Congealed Kul Tiran, Volatile Juice and Congealed Cat in Storm phase as it was recommended, and I got around 1 fragments within 2-3 hours, and then 1 fragment after 1-2 hours. So, heads up, while these spawn fast, they also have the lowest drop rate.
In between I tried going around killing the rares like Zek'ul the Shipbreaker, Slaughtershell, Brinebough and Tempest Talon, and even though some had highest drop rate, I got 1 fragment in total.
I tried killing Kvaldir Tidewalker, Kvaldir Tidewalker, Storm-Touched Clawfiend, Shadowtide Watcher, Deepwater Matriarch, Shadowtide Horror and many more around the isle in Storm phase and got 1 fragment.
Eventually I just headed inside The Forgotten Vault and killed Ksvir the Forgotten, Tide-Champion Korval, Crystalsworn Memory, Crystalsworn Memory and Kvaldir Tidewalker for about 1-2 hours and I got the rest 3 fragments.
In total this took me maybe about 7-8 hours, and I also took breaks and worked on these in two days.

Best of luck farming these. Set timers to remember to take breaks and stretch your legs!

Not sure if drop rate is better now, or just had good rng. Decided to go back to now 'old' content- found a small group farming skeletons. In 45 min, the other 2 people in my group got 3-4 fragments each and I got 1. After they left and with a new person in group, I got 2 more fragments for a total of 3 in 1.5 hours. Most tedious grind ever (from a person who farmed 9,999 dino bones when they were current content and soulbound)
Its doable i guess, but i think having to put together 5 keys should be enough of a challenge, without having to spend so much time grinding (in a phased zone no less!) just for one key when the other key parts are so much easier to get.

(I still have crackling shards left to grind for alunira, but at least that farm can be doubled up with farming for bee mount and leather as a skinner)

P.S. the group I joined was phased to me at first, until I realized they had forgotten to be in the storm! If its not raining, you're not in the right place and won't get any!

A lot of people talk about time farmed but obviously that varies on gear and classes. I was bouncing between outside the great vault and going in and clearing all the rooms and killing the rare inside. I was averaging 1 fragment every 300 kills or so.

Fragment 1. 238 Kills
Fragment 2. 261 Kills
Fragment 3. 472 Kills
Fragment 4. 133 Kills
Fragment 5. 366 Kills
(Fragments 6 and 7 were already in my bags before I started looking into the mount)

Obviously its all RNG but aside from fragment 4, it was all pretty consistent. Fragment 3 I was a bit unlucky with but not too bad. Overall took me about 2 hours with me going afk a lot. 639 ilvl frost dk. So yeah expect it to take roughly 300 kills to get a fragment

As many other have said, I cannot overstate how good of a farm The Drain is.

1). Get into the Storm-version of Siren's Island.
2). Get the TR-06 Pummeler.
3). Go to The Drain /way 62 74
4). If there is no wooden barrier in the way, just use Shield Charge (ability #3) and rush down the cave entrance. You might get teleported out but if you do just try again.

(If there is a wooden barrier in the way, you can clip through it at the top left corner. Then just use Shield Charge to get into the cave before you're teleported out.)

5). Eventually you'll make it in. When you do make it inside, get as far down into the cave as you can. If you get too close to the entrance you might get teleported out again. The teleportation is inconsistent and janky, but if you stand far inside the cave you should be fine.
6). Kill the hyper-respawning slimes.
7). Every 15 mins your TR-06 Pummeler will run out of fuel, and you have to start from Step #2 again. But in those 15 mins you can kill hundreds of slimes.

I got 4 Torrential Fragment in about 90 mins.

Just sharing my experience farming these in The Drain (thanks to Trandhal's comment). I started with 2 fragments, and stopped trying to farm the rest months ago because boredom.

1st Attempt: Another player was there, mobs respawned insanely fast. Got 1 fragment before fuel ran out.
2nd Attempt: Alone so slower respawns, Got TWO fragments before fuel ran out
3rd Attempt: DC'd at ~50%, no fragments
4th Attempt: DC'd at ~60%, no fragments
5th Attempt: 1 fragment
6th Attempt: 0 fragments
7th Attempt: Got my 5th and final fragment on the very first pull

Don't know if the DC's were on my end or because I'm not supposed to be in there, but 5 fragments in ~80 minutes was a HUGE improvement over my previous attempts. So still a good method as of May 26, 2025.

4'ish hours of grinding the undead on the beach for 7 fragments.
This was done solo, although a shadowpriest showed up for my last 3 fragments and we tagged mobs together for the last bit.
Looking at comments it seems some people are unaware you need to be in the storm for them to drop.

I just want to add that I farmed these once a day at The Drain and I would get one in the first 5-10 minutes. Two times I stayed for 20-30 extra minutes to see if the second would drop and it never happened. I either got very lucky each day, or there is some sort of timer to drop one each X hours.

I farmed 6 of these in 1446 attempts (Activated the storm and then turned on rarity). Stayed in the area with the Brinebound Wraith. Tagged the elite Storm-Touched Dreadshell and Slaughtershell too. Decently geared so I did not bother with the equipment/mech. Lowest drop was 45 and highest was 447. I already had one from before so no data on that. Did not take too long for me. Good luck!

Started my last 3 fragment sprint in The Drain with the slimes. First fragment dropped at about a 50 minute mark of killing with the robot.
Next is the interesting part. I play on Ravencrest, the missus has a character on Shadowsong.

Zek'ul the Shipbreaker was spawned on both sides. We killed him on my side first, left party, she went back to her phase invited me and proceeded to kill him there. From there on we just waited and farmed him intermittently since leaving the party kept phasing us back to our respective realms.
For my last 2 fragments it took well over 3 hours worth of kills. He kept spawning at about a 5-6 minute mark. That % chance on his drop rate for fragments is a tad inaccurate in my opinion.

This was tedious and I presume I was a bit lucky with the drops.

On Aug 03, 2025, I got 3 of these in roughly 1 hour by killing everything on the isle and I was finally able to get the mount. Not sure if the drop rate is increased or not.

As of 9/17/25, I was so irritated. I spent several hours on the island on an alt last night trying to collect fragments. I got zero. I hit ALL the spots with goo guys, brined skeletons, zek the squid head, etc.

I got my first fragment of the torrential key 3 kills after completing the last of the other keys. Based on that, I'm going to suggest completing all four other keys before attempting. My suggestion is purely anecdotal.

If you’re farming random mobs for fragments, stop now and switch to killing rares during storm events. I farmed Zek'ul, Brinebought, Tempest Talon, and Slaughtershell repeatedly — they spawn every 5–10 mins, so it’s a pretty chill farm.

I got most of my fragments from rares, not random mobs. On average, I got 1 Fragment for every 3–4 rare kills, which is about 20 minutes per Fragment. I ended up with around 1000 kills and 7 Fragments total.

Good luck — honestly the most chill farm I’ve done.

I did mob farms for hours and got no fragments. The last two weeks I have just planted my character that is farming them at the Zek'ul spawn place and by jumping in for a couple minutes every time I swap up characters I kill all the skeletons, cursed sailors that spawn and Zek'ul. I have now got 6. May just be super lucky but you get in a lot of kills from the skeletons and the rare. 3 from the skeletons, 2 from rare and 1 from sailor. Good luck farming all.

As of today, doing the farming at the Drain with the shredder still works. I usually got a fragment within the first 5 minutes or so of being there. I don't know if this is just how it goes usually but after the 1st drop of the day the spawn rate seems to go down if you continue to farm back to back but it's still a decent farm. In one run I was able to obtain 2 shards in the same shredder, one in the beginning and towards the end so I do think there is a bit of a CD possibly for how often they drop. My last 2 shards I needed I ended up sharing the location with another shredder, took me 3 tries to get the last two fragments. With one of these though I did get a purple bag "Overflowing Bag of Iron" so I don't know if maybe this shares a CD or something with the fragment and that's why I didn't get a fragment that run.

As of the new year 2026, it appears that the Drain bug has been patched. You can still get through the wooden barricade but get portaled out after you get past the entrance of the room. Back to finding a new spot to farm. Note, teleport occurs each time you break in not just the first.

Today I managed to farm 6 of these I needed. One I had from before.
First I went to the cave. Farmed with another player, in one and a half hour she got three of them (two of those at the same time) while I got one. She left, I continued alone while the robot had fuel (he was full when she left) then gave up.
Then I went to Forbidden Vault, killed everything couple of times, no luck.
After that I went in front of the Vault, joined party and started the grind. I got five of them in about two hours. When there was five of us in party, i got two in span of fifteen - twenty minutes. Last one took me 40 minutes and there was only two of us in the party, my mate got two in that time, while I got none. I would say the drop rate is better when in bigger party.
Can't say which mobs dropped it, we went and killed everything that moved, including one rare spawn and crab that comes from the sea then looted everything.

Don't despair.
The drop is still decent. I farmed today (02/08/2026) 5 fragments in 34 minutes of TR-06 Pummeler fuel time in The Drain (62.0 74.0). I entered the Drain thrice, each time I was teleported out at first (with wooden barricade on and off, no difference), but the second attempt to enter was successful.
I was alone, no group. But there was a group of Alliance players farming beside me. I simply wanted to try this method out, because I already had 2 fragments from farming the Vikings outside the vault and those 2 fragments took me 4 hours of constant farm in a group.
So, try again, maybe now's the right time to do it.

The Drain farm still work as of today (16 Feb 2026)

* you need to be using the robot to enter, once you get behind the gate (if there is one) or past the point where there should be a gate (when there's no gate), use the third skill of the robot to charge into it, for some reason it does not teleport you out most of the time. The idea is to be able to charge to deeper into the cave (past an invisible zone where you will be teleported)
* you only have a limited time (look at buff bar) before the robot are done, once the buff expired, you get teleported out instantly
* As long you keep getting out of the poison puddle, you should have no problem surviving till the buff expire.
* Your robot replenish health passively, in worst case scenario.
* After you get your robot, just run directly south across the narrow straits to get to the drain as fast as you can to save more time on the buff
* You can only get this in storm phase (just clarifying)

New working theory: Wearing Cyrce's Circlet massively increases the drop rate of these fragments.

This is far from definite, but after many hours grinding (Including the slimes and the hyper-spawning undead outside the cave) and running all of the quests, weeklies, prismatic mount and acquiring all of the other keys, I had a grand total of 3 fragments. I spent another couple of hour-long sessions in the isle hitting rares and grinding more spawns over the last couple of days and got zero. This was while I had some ilvl 144 rings on.

Today, I reacquired my circlet from Bargus and stacked it with a few of the vendor-bought gems. Nothing specific, just filled the slots.

I dropped my first fragment from Slaughtershell within 3 minutes. I met up with a pally outside the cave who only had a single fragment to his name. We partied up and I mentioned my theory to him. He put his ring on, too.

In less that 50 minutes, we both had all of our remaining fragments drop from the Kvaldir Tidewalkers and Brinebound Wraiths

So those of you still looking: Give this a try and report back here. We might just have got lucky, or perhaps there's an effect from being in a party? It need more data points before we can consider this a genuine effect.
