Upcoming Changes to Fishing in Shadowlands Patch 9.2

The new fish in Zereth Mortis is Precursor Placoderm. It can be fished from any water pool in Zereth Mortis, and you have a chance to catch Precursor Placoderm Bait as well. This is likely a key ingredient in Empty Kettle of Stone Soup.

Although all water in Zereth Mortis is smooth and glassy (so much so that you can walk over it), you can fish in almost all of it.

Why is Fishing Useful in Shadowlands?

Fishing is a fantastic way to improve your own Cooking skill. Many Shadowlands Cooking recipes use large amounts of fish in the recipes, so it's a cheap way to create excellent and fun stat food.

Fishing is also a great skill for a Hunter with a fish-loving pet to feed. While Feed Pet is no longer the necessity it once was, it's a cheap and easy way to heal your pet.

There will be many Shadowlands cooks without the skill or patience to fish, so you can sell your fish on the Auction House for an easy cash crop.

Necrolords wanting to spiff up their Abominations will need fish to make a special accessory. Help our Necrolord friends with their fashion sense!

It's a great excuse to drink "special beverages" in game and hang out with your friends!

Oribobber - Replace your bobber with one provided by the Brokers of Oribos. This is only for temporary use; it's not a multi-use toy you can use to transform your bobber. A flavor item only.

Laestrite Skeleton Key - Allows opening of locks that require up to 600 Lockpicking skill.

Shrouded Cloth Bandage - Heals 2240 damage over 8 sec.

You catch bait with the appropriate fish. For example, when you catch a Lost Sole, you will occasionally receive a Lost Sole Bait along with that fish.

Species specific bait is not Unique, unlike previous expansions' bait. It is not soulbound and stacks up to 20.

Bait lasts for 30 minutes (up from 10 in previous expansions)

While using bait to catch a particular fish, you can catch more bait.

Bait that targets a zone-specific fish is only effective in that zone. Using Iridescent Amberjack Bait in Maldraxxus won't allow you to catch Iridescent Amberjack there.

I think there's a typo in the Where to Level SL Fishing > Fishing in Bastion section. The zone fish should be Silvergill Pike, not Elysian Thade.

Great guide! You might want to add that bait is available from fishing vendors, no need to wait to catch the specific bait you want.

In the Revendreth there is also location called blistering bog around 37,30. The water is shallow there but I found few pods where I fished piranhas.

/ I discovered you may fish for piranhas while waiting for blanchy to spawn. Two fish with one catch.

Unless there is something I am missing about the Muck pool in Revendreth, it is no longer considered fishable water. I was unable to cast in it today. Went slightly more south west to the small pool and sat there instead.

Well constructed guide, thanks. A few notes;

Ardenweald - There is no flight path for easy access at Starlight Overlook, other than when you first arrive therefore it is not worth making the trek up there after this.
Bastion - As others noted, the regional fish species is not Elysian Thade which is a rare catch in all waters. The correct species is Silvergill Pike.

If you need to rest and relax while fishing in Ardenweald...Rest at Tirna Vaal (63 36) and fish. Yes... REST...you get rested XP if you stay here and fish :)

If you're waiting for Old Blanchie to spawn in Revendreth, you can fish at her spawn point, although you will get casts that land in water too shallow to fish in. The only mob close is a gorger and it isn't in aggro range. The spot is the top of the waterfall by the elevator mentioned in the guide. It's definitely a way to pass the wait, since her spawn time is 2 hours-ish. I've been waiting about 45 minutes now, started fishing about 15 minutes into my wait, and have gone from 1 to 59. I've even caught an Elysian Thade, and some piranha bait, and LOTS of grey items plus 33 piranha and 35 lost sole.

I have done quite a bit of fishing, and I've noticed sometimes after hitting a successful cast I get nothing. Not even a grey item, but I do sometimes get skill ups from that. Is this normal or a bug? I must have done about 15 casts in non-pool water and got nothing except a few skill points.

Another great place to fish, if you are Night Fae, is the Queen's Conservatory.
They have pools for Lost Sole and Iridescent Amberjack. Easy place to go if you have it unlocked!

Edit: Fane found out that you can fish up Elysian Thade and VeID found that you don't fish up any junk!

The no-junk cap seems to be 225 Shadowlands Fishing.

With 224 I still catch junk, with 225 not.

Can I learn to track fish in Shadowlands or do I have to go back to an older xpac for that? I never learned fishing previously and can't track fishing nodes now.

The Underlight Angler seems to retain all it's abilities!

Warm Supreme also seems to give it's buff to fishing skill.

Never found out if overcapping once at max level actually does anything. Anyone?

If you are looking for a fishing spot in Revendreth that is easy to get to, fly to Sanctuary of the Mad, take the elevator up, and go behind the elevator. There's a small pond right there that's not too shallow to fish from (around 29, 45).

Two significant quiet, safe, no-aggro fishing spots you didn't mention:

In Revendreth, not far from the Wanecrypt Hill FP is the Night Market. Their pond always has a pool of fish in it, and there aren't even bats nearby to bother you (unless you're exceptionally low level or go up the hillside).

In Maldraxxus, someone who found the way in named it 'Lake Primus'. From the House of Plagues FP, proceed SE like if you're going hunting slimes. Just before the tower, there's a rubble-fall in the wall/cliff to your right. Go through it. GREAT big lake, lots of pools, absolutely nothing there will bother you.

My fave spot to fish in Revendreth is where Dead Blanchy spawns, since I already have to wait on her. Had no mobs attacking me and the debuff was ignorable.

As of 9.2, the maximum bonus Fishing skill is +78, however, only +68 is practical, as you can not use the Underbelly Elixir outside WotLK Dalaran, which gives you +10 Fishing when transformed to Tuskarr.

The following items will give you +68 fishing in all WoW zones:

+18 Nat's Drinking Hat
+15 Underlight Angler or "The Brokers Angle'r"
+10 Boots of the Bay
+6 Ancient Fishing Line
+5 Formula: Enchant Gloves - Angler
+5 Sharpened Tuskarr Spear
+5 Captain Rumsey's Lager
+4 Trawler Totem

All of the items are still obtainable.

It has to be noted that there is a neglectable difference between the amount of trash catched between level 200 and level 268 Shadowlands Fishing. That said, I did catch a few trash items at Hirukon 200 at, while no trash at ~240+. Sample size is about 500-1000 casts each.

So iv'e been doing the Limnologist achievement and went to Tirisfal Glades to catch a Sickly looking fish and i was fishing at Brightwater Lake i noticed my Shadowlands fishing going up.............anybody else noticed this i thought i was going mad :D
