It's more of a combination of "I'm in a hurry" and "this makes my dps higher on recount" sentiments. It's pretty universal, especially if you are doing a pickup group for the daily heroic.
Often it works out well, because it keeps the healer from getting bored, but it depends on the gear of the tank and healer. If it is causing problems on the run, just let that dps die a few times and they will get the point.

Hrmm...those who grab aggro from aoeing does it too soon, PERIOD - sometimes, it is caused by a noob tank, but most of the time it's the dpser AOEing too soon. Unless you're a rogue putting tricks on tank, you should wait to AOE, otherwise, it's the dps own fault to die by AOEing too soon.

I actually welcome aoe spammers, it does make the runs faster. If the tank is equally geared to the dps, they should have no issues whatsoever with aggro. You just need to learn how to produce aoe threat better. I've run with mages and boomkin druids spamming aoe from the start of the fight and haven't had issues. It's possible.

You can charge, intercept, intervene, thunderclap, and shockwave all day long, but if the dps'ers aren't thinking, you're not going to be able to control them all.
You don't have Cleave in there. If you added cleave you might find that aoe aggro is easy.
I just finished a Nexus HC run, and the only deaths we had was the hunter going down twice - both times to trash.
This hunter was a freaking noob. Hunters dont die in heroics unless they want to.
Yeah I agree. Between Misdirects and Feign Death, hunters should never die in Heroics.
I've been in groups as 2 classes of tanks, and also as dps with all sorts of levels of tanks as well. Good tanks can hold aoe aggro no matter what. Even if extra packs come, if the tank knows what they are doing you can aoe from the start of the fight. Sometimes that determines if your group makes it or not.

Yes, I use cleave of course. It's not listed for the same reason that devastate, ss, or any of a number other skills aren't... Cleave is used to put aggro on mobs you're already at. It's not going to do anything for mobs that are running by out of melee range, or half way across the field. And once you've used up your 'fast move' skills, it's just a footrace to see who makes it to the squishies first - you or the mobs.
I cannot stress the importance of cleave. When I started doing some serious tanking in Heroics, I had aoe aggro issues all over the place. I literally could not hold aggro on anything past 2 mobs, and came to the boards for advice. Someone mentioned that you should use cleave with the glyph of cleaving. I said to myself, "naw that would never work!"
But guess what, after I tried it it was like night and day. I had absolutely no aoe aggro issues after that point. It's a leap of faith to de-learn what you've been doing (what I was use to doing before WotLK) as a tank and to re-learn tanking in WotLK. But trust me, if you make that leap of faith it will completely change your outlook on cleave!
It literally is the only move you need for aoe tanking. Everything else just cements aggro from multi mob pulls (which are every mob pull now). I prioritize Cleave over everything else if I'm tanking anything 4 mobs or more. It's truely a solid ability that should be used by any warrior tank for packs of mobs.
That being said, I think it needs a boost as well. Cleave is Warcraft 3 did insane amounts of damage, often time counting for 4x to 6x the damage to the other targets. Mobs have/had cleave abilities that would chain for the amount of people it hits for. Even Bear's Swipe ability is 360 degrees around the bear and hits for an unlimited amount of targets. Our Imp Cleave talent is trash for 3 talent points. They should really bump either the damage or the number of targets.
