All of the sand piles for this achievement are within the Dormant Alcove, one of the Locus Shift treasure rooms.

It requires 7 Spatial Opener to loot all 7 sand piles, which are obtainable from a variety of treasures:

To access this room, you first must:

Research Metrial Understanding and Aealic Understanding
Complete A Means to an End
Unlock the Dormant Alcove from the Dormant Alcove Arrangement at /way #1970 51.0 32.5, between 2 pillars, on the side of one of the pillars (accessible from flying or via the Quintus Locus and dropping down)

Next gain at least 60 Cosmic Energy and enter Gravid Repose. Use the Locus Shift to take the Interior Locus to the Inner Chamber. You will now see a new Locus Shift (the Arcae Locus) upon the platform at the north-western side of the room, which you can use to travel to the Dormant Alcove.

Each sand pile contains a specific epic item level 246 piece of equipment and the same amount of resources as other unique treasures (exact items may differ depending on class/spec/role):

These have a global cooldown, so may not be visible for you if someone else has looted them recently (try changing shard with LFG if you can't see some of them).

Warning!: there is a bug with having full bags, where it will use up your Spatial Opener, but the treasure will remain and use up another Spatial Opener if you try to loot it again, causing you to forever be unable to unlock a treasure for each time this happens to you. Please report this in-game, as they should either despawn and the loot mailed to you, or not use up an additional irreplaceable Spatial Opener.
Update: They have now added a "resolution" for this, which will cost you 200 Cyphers of the First Ones each (enjoy your kick in the face):

Players can now purchase additional Spatial Openers from Olea Manu if they have not already earned the "Sand, Sand Everywhere!" achievement.

Applicable to PTR characters only: If you unlocked the Ultimus Locus Arrangement or completed A Means to an End before All Ch 6 Symbols Found was added, you will not have flagged, which is required to see the additional Arrangements. You will need to create a brand new character instead and complete A Means to an End again.

There are 7 Spatial Opener that drop from treasures
You can use them in the Dormant Chamber room in Locus Shift
If you use all sand piles you will get the Sand, Sand Everywhere! achievement

Was able to teleport to the Dormant Alcove today with the new campaign chapter. But only 4 sand piles where visible within, instead of the full 7.
Not sure if this has to be done over multiple days or what.

Edit: After leaving and returning to the chamber, the final 3 sand piles appeared.

To unlock Dormant Alcove, if you are having issues, click the Symbol at

/way 51,32 on top of a pillar outside.

I put in a ticket and everything as this information isn't listed anywhere. Or at least I couldn't find it. Hope this helps everyone!

Apparently opening the sand piles a second time takes another spatial opener, so make sure you have some bag space if you want to open all seven at once

The final 3 Alcove Arrangements will not appear for characters that have not completed the achievement A Means to an End (A Means to an End). Even though you will be in the area in order to complete that achievement, you will not be able to see or interact with these runes until you speak with Bolvar to finish off this step of the campaign. Upon returning, all 3 runes will appear and are able to be interacted with.

So I have collected all the runes, but I still don't have the flight path to the inner chamber. How do I get it? Everywhere I've gone it says to click the rune that is up the left stairs from the entrance, but I did that to complete chapter 4....some help would be AWESOME.

I could not see any sand piles, after finishing A Means to an End, unlocking every rune including the Alcove one, teleporting inside the Dormant Alcove, they just weren't there, even after relogging. This is on EU. I will ticket if it won't work as I try again later.

Warning: if you aren't able to obtain all the loot in a sand pile and end up having to clear your inventory, do NOT click on the sand pile again. It will use another Spatial Opener (which you cannot reobtain), locking you out of this achievement on your toon. I hope they fix this issue, otherwise I'm stuck having to farm the damn openers again.

EDIT: I ended up doing the achievement on another toon after the GM who responded said it would be circumventing intended mechanics to refund the openers I wasted.

Don't make my mistake and if you stored Spatial Openers in your bank take them out before going in. You cant open if you dont have them on you.

There are five secret alcoves that can be reached using the Locus Shift that is unlocked while completing chapter 6 of the Zereth Mortis campaign. More information on the exact requirements to access each alcove can be found below by following the Wowhead links for their respective rewards:

Repertory Alcove - Contains a machine called the Requisites Originator which gives you six options to choose from on a presumably weekly lockout. Appears to be the primary source of Unalloyed Bronze Ingot.
Rondure Alcove - Two jumping puzzles to access Schematic: Omnipotential Core and Rondure Cache. The cache has a high chance to drop Pocobold. This is not the only way to obtain Pocobold though, so you may already have it.
Camber Alcove - A minigame where you drive a snail through five rings to obtain Schematic: Unsuccessful Prototype Fleetpod.
Dormant Alcove - Contains the seven sand piles required for the achievement Sand, Sand Everywhere!.
Fulgor Alcove - Pocopoc can access the consoles to help you reach the Torn Ethereal Drape, which doesn't appear to give anything special.

So if you get all your spatial openers, have done the quests, but can't read the options on the teleporter because they're still in First Ones language -- select the TOP option to go to the inner locus.

Make sure to have space in your bags, if you reopen a pile of sand it will consume a second spatial opener on the same pile. I don't know if this is intended, but I can no longer get the achievement it seems as I no longer have enough spatial openers to open all 7...

To clarify: even if you have the achievement “A Means To An End” because you completed it on a different toon, you will need to complete it on the toon you are trying to get to the secret treasure room on or get the achievement “Sand, Sand Everywhere!” The final rune that you need at the Locus Shift will not show up until you have completed that on the toon you are currently on. Once you have that completed the rune will show up at 51.04, 32.46. Click it to learn your new location and then go to the nearest teleporter and choose the top option. Once you are inside the room go to the teleporter on the opposite side of the room from you and use it. It will take you to the secret treasure room where you can use your Spatial Openers to open the 7 sand piles - they are all in one room. Also, the sand piles took a minute or so to actually show up on my screen so when you get in there, wait a moment and you will see them.

Edit: did this quest on my alts who has not done deep enough research in the console to decipher the text. Fear not! Select the #1 choice: this TAKES YOU TO THE INNER CHAMBER. From there, take the 2nd transporter ie Locus Shift across the room. This gives you Dormant Alcove, take it, it will take you to the room with all 7 piles

2nd edit 6/5/2022: I had no problems with this short cut on alts but on my Hunter the rune was not showing up for me. The only thing I can think of was that I started the Means to the End quest line (I had this in my log What a Long Strange Trip). Once I completed the quest line and turned in Arbiter in the Making in Haven, the rune showed up for me.

Anyone else having issues clicking on the Locus Shift in the inner chamber? Seems when i mouse over it from a distance it is selectable but if i move too close, i cant select it

Just to confirm, the gear is always item level 246 no matter what the current state of your Cyphers of the First Ones research is.

Well this must be close to the stupidest, most idiotic and bugged quest to date.
I have all 7 spatial openers, have done the quest line and have gone inside the inner chamber a number of time but, there's no sand anywhere. I just feel like deleting the openers and calling it a day. This is one of the reasons why I cancelled my subscription.

it was more to get the 246 item level gear for alts and some of the newer players as you get a choice of four rings, a neck and two trinkets and you can get 6 of the 7 spatial openers with very little effort (the 7th one requires the Domination cache to be opened)

For anyone who was influenced by the bug and lost one or more Spatial Openers: you can now buy more at Olea Manu, the Cypher merchant near Exile's Hollow, for 200 Cyphers of the First Ones. I don't know if there's a prerequisite, like getting all 7 normally available keys, or if it's just an alternative way to provide access to the keys.

If you get "You cannot use this taxi currently" when you try to click on the Arcae Locus (new Locus Shift at the north-western side of the Interior Locus/Interior Chamber) , it means you are missing the rune at the coordinates 51.0, 32.5, also mentioned in other comments. Outside Gravid Repose (the first room), face towards the entrance, fly up and see towards the left.

I cant even gather cosmic essence from mobs anymore. I have all other reqs done, just cant travel because the mobs no longer drop essence.

Fly to 51.04 32.49 halfway up the wall over the entrence to Gravid Repose, click the rune.
Make sure to bring 60 Cosmic Energy, then go down to 50.58 32.01 and go into Gravid Repose.
Click to go to the Interior Locus.
Go forward to the 2nd of the 2 Locus buttons, the Arcea Locus and click to go to Dormant Alcove.
They are all in the same room.
You don't need to do all 7 at the same time if you got some you can go do those and come back later for the rest, you will just need to reget the 60 Cosmic Energy.

Just wanted to add a simple note for those leveling alts like me, you have to research Metrial Understanding and Aealic Understanding from the Cypher Research Console in order to see the special runes to unlock the chambers.

The name and description of this achievement suggest that these sand piles had been originally intended to be found randomly across the entirety of Zereth Mortis (or its sandy parts, at least), but were for some reason clumped into a single hidden chamber.

So if you are like me and want to do this achievement during (Dragonflight) and you are stuck/bugged at Gravid Repose Locus Shift where you only see the (Symbol Language List) when clicking the Shift stone and you do not get the Flight Map (or what you see is only the hand cursor) , don't worry please do the following, hopefully it will work for you as well (I tested it my-self):

- First of all, make sure the basic required steps are all met according to the above amazing posts/guides of our friends.

- Second of all, Make sure your bags are not full and all 7x Spacial Openers are in your bag.

- Third of all, Get your Cosmic Energy. ( mine was 100% but you need 60%)

- Fourth of all, In Gravid Repose click on the Locus Shift Choose the first option from the list .. It will take you to the room with the two Locus Shifts (Inner Chamber).

- Fifth, Go on click the second one (The one at the Back next to the wall) It will show you the little (Flight Map) where you can see the option to fly to Dormant Alcove and it requires 30 Cosmic Energy. Select it and there you go .. you are in the Sand Room (Dormant Alcove) :D

(I tested the shift/flight thing twice before I did the Sand, Sand Everywhere! achievement) it works perfectly :)

For the Achievement : Just Click the sands and get the loot. Make sure your bags have enough space.

To get out just click the Locus Shift and then in the next room select the last option.

That's it .. Have Fun !
