Before the 1st boss are 3 banners, 3 seperate players must pick up the banners. During the boss fight the boss will make spawn 3 adds and then a soak mechanic. Use the soak mechanic to kill 2 of the adds while the last add remains as a ball. You want to deny 3 in a row (think tic-tac-toe). Use the banners after the last soak, once you have 3 banners in a row you "win" and the achievement turns white. You can then kill the boss. Note if the boss gets 3 in a row he will enrage.

There are 3 banners around the area before the boss (check the guide for the locations). They’re easy to see as they’re glowing. 3 players need to grab one each, pick them up by running over them. During the fight, these banners need to be placed one by one in a line like when you’re playing a game of tic-tac-toe, to win and earn the achievement.

As per usual fight, you’ll get 3 voidshapers where you have to soak 2 to despawn them. After the second soak, place the first banner. Banners need to be placed in an empty spot so be sure to soak the voidshapers that may spawn in your tic-tac-toe line. Repeat until all 3 banners are placed and keep in mind to not leave 3 voidshapers in a row, or the march will wipe the raid. After placing the 3rd banner, the achievement will be marked as complete, the wording on the achievement will turn white, and you can defeat the boss.

I was a little worried on our run that we might get screwed by RNG, but in the end it went just fine.

We placed the first banner in the middle position, as it gave us the most options (and you likewise always want to clear the middle from the boss for the same reason)
We then chose a corner, and finally the last opposite corner.
On that 3rd round, both of our banners positions were chosen by the boss again (so we had to soak on those 2 points).
Luckily the boss' 3rd chosen point on wave3 wasn't going to be a 3-in-a-row for the boss, nor the opposite corner (where we wanted to place the 3rd banner)... but it potentially could have been like that ... if so, just try again and make a little sacrificial offering to RNGesus :P

Things we learned:

- Once you do the second soak each round, for ONE flag carrier (the game chooses at random) all of the available squares will light up as options to plant your flag. It's not related to where your second soak is done at all.

- Once you have planted a flag you have to make sure the boss doesn't claim it with his 3rd add that's left alive each round, so you have to prioritize soaking the spots you've put your flags.

- You do have to make a tic-tac-toe winning combo with your flags to get the cheevo to trigger, it's not just planting 3 flags in random squares.

- You still do need to play defensively as if the boss gets tic tac toe the same time you do, boss wins. RNG can cause it to be impossible for you to protect all your flags and stop tic tac toe, so a bit of luck involved.

Writing up a quick guide because as we leave season 1 there will be more people attempting this achievement without actually having played the boss normally. This achievement is much easier to understand and execute if you know how the boss works.

The boss arena has an invisible tic tac toe grid. Throughout the fight the boss will summon three stationary adds. These adds are the Os in tic tac toe. You can destroy two of the three adds using the boss's tank buster circle. This means one O (a black portal) will always be present and the goal of the fight is to make sure there are not three Os in a row.

The achievement adds the Xs to the fight which are handled by three players that pick up the banners. Now after two adds are destroyed and the O is marked, one of the three players will be given an extra action button to drop the banner on the grid to make an X which is very clearly marked on the ground when the banner is placed. The goal of the achievement is to have all three Xs in a row and you will see a special emote from the boss when you do this correctly and can kill the boss.

I recommend making sure your first X in the middle of the room then deciding from there how you want your line to go.

Other Notes:

You cannot drop an X on an existing O.

The boss can destroy your Xs with his Os if an add spawns on top of your X and your tank doesn't destroy it. This is the only rng element to this fight.

You need to go slow on dps (especially important post midnight) because you need three add cycles for this achievement.

So to clear up any confusion - you have to make 3 in a row before he does.
He can remove your banner if you don't soak a puddle with the banner on it.
You can put the banner in any square NOT taken by the boss.
We did not find the banner order out, but it is only 1 person can drop at a time.
We opted for diagonal for ease.
