The only recipes that go towards this achievement are recipes that creat level 85 items. So cooking Basilisk Liverdog counts but Hearty Seafood Soup doesn't. That's been the case for me anyways.

The Starfire Espresso trick for this achievement appears to have been hotfixed just moments ago. I took my guild's ~200 "legit" counter up to 2223/5000 while I was semi-AFK. When I returned and restocked on the water and Cocoa Beans, further cooking did not move the numbers any higher. Neither reloading the UI nor exiting the game "fixed" the issue.

Pretty lame.

Seems as if no recipe that requires only mats from a vendor counts.

Fish Fry does count and is really cheap on my server (~10s per piece, 30s per point -> 1500g for 5000 cooked items (although 15000 fish are needed :) )

I cooked up about 4960 glasses of South Island Iced Tea tonight, in order to earn this Set the Oven to "Cataclysmic" guild achievement. Fortunately I had a Chef's Hat which dramatically shortened the amount of real time required to do that much cooking. Even so, it took me about one hour and 14 minutes (nearly 70 brews per minute).

Edit: sadly, South Island Iced Tea no longer applies to this achievement, as of Patch 4.0.6.

I used South Island Iced Tea last night, it still counts. It costs about ~10g per stack of fruit and water, and yes, having the Chef's hat help a lot.

Why are the stats so "low", the Engineer one also gives you 60 bonus. And seeing this is from achievement I really think it should give 90 in stat like the fish-achi-thing.

The best way to achive this for your guild is by getting Crocolisk Tails
And cook them to either Beer-Basted Crocolisk or Crocolisk Au Gratin

These are usually sold on the AH with a high quantity for a cheap price. Due to the daily quest Swamp Bait in Tol Barad.

Depending on your server, you may end up earning alot of gold due to selling one of the buff foods above.

But ofcourse it's all depending on your server, but from a personal point of view, this is one of the best and cheapest way to get it :)

At the moment nothing to make any of the recipes are cheap on my server, so I'm going to go fish in pools for materials and work on as I do. So that's two birds with one stone.

An economical way to get this is using Recipe: Fish Fry, which requires 3 Sharptooth. Sharptooth currently sell for about 5-10s each on my realm. It's a trash fish that a lot of people just dump.

I am in a 2 person guild. When my guildie went through the lore quests of Cata she didn't cook everything that was possible as they hadn't done enough SW cooking dailies to get all the recipes. She may have cooked around 80 or so recipes. When I finished with Twilight Highlands, the count was around 320.

I have been fishing up a storm, mainly in Mt Hyjal and cooking everything that I catch.

I am closing in on both this and the fishing achievement. It is a grind with a tiny guild. But at least I am getting two (guild) achievements and two recipes at the end of it.

For those in our situation, set a daily fishing goal of say 100 fish/day, and cook them.

Many of the easy loopholes have been closed for this Achievement. It's kind of tricky to tell what counts anymore, but it's safe to say that nothing that can be made from vendor materials will count (e.g., South Island Iced Tea, Starfire Espresso, Highland Spirits). If you're looking for the cheapest way to get this Achievement, your best bet is probably Recipe: Fish Fry. Sharptooth are basically the junk fish of Cataclysm, so they sell for a few silver each. Cooking Scalding Murglesnout is slightly more expensive, but the product is much more useful to mana users, so you can at least recover some of your costs.

If you'd prefer to make some money in the process, or work on two Achievements at once, try Severed Sagefish Head, Skewered Eel, or Beer-Basted Crocolisk. These foods are in high demand because they're the best available food buffs for Intellect, Agility, and Strength respectively. Fathom Eels are mostly fished from pools in Tol Barad, and in 4.3 Deepsea Sagefish can be fished from pools in Twilight Highlands, so you can work toward the pool-fishing Achievement and Recipe: Seafood Magnifique Feast. Crocolisk Tails are available quite cheaply on the Auction House, since lots of players kill crocs anyway for the Tol Barad dailies.

In my experience, Croc Tails are almost always profitable to buy, cook, and sell, Sagefish can turn a profit if you keep an eye out for good deals, and raw Eels are more profitable raw than cooked, because they're also an ingredient in the Seafood Magnifique Feast. There are other recipes for each of these meats, but since they improve secondary stats, they're much harder to sell.

looked today in the ah. Sharptooth for Recipe: Fish Fry costs around 300g each stack.
but a stack Dragon Flank for either Recipe: Grilled Dragon or Recipe: Broiled Dragon Feast is temporary the cheapest way to do this achievement. (40g/stack)

On Anachronos (EU server, ally side), it's best to keep an eye on the AH and buy when prices are low. There are only three types worth buying, since the rest usually are very expensive. So do a regular check on:

Dragon Flank, Murglesnout and Sharptooth

Best option is the first, since the others requires 3 per dish. Flanks are often as low as 2-3g per stack, and rarely higher than 8k. It's worth mentioning that whenever I buy up all the cheap ones, there's always someone trying to press the price to 40-50g, but I doubt anyone buys, since it's usually back to low after 2-3 days.

I get 15-20 stacks a couple of times per week for very low prices. It will take some weeks to get the achievement, but it's better spending a few minutes on this per week instead of fishing 5k mats, well unless you're going for fishing achievements. Don't bother rushing with this, the reward is pretty much useless - I'd say the only use it has, is that the recipe counts for the Iron Chef achievement.

An official clarification from Bliz would really help but, to me the idea that only things we get from non-vendor mats makes sense. The iLevel 85 thing is not seeming to be true though I could well be looking at it wrong. Searching for iLevel 85+ cooking items gives tons of MoP stuff. Limiting it to just 85 gives very few and none are Cata vendor recepies. Anyway here is what I tried and the results:

Starfire Espresso would now seem to count toward this achievement - I've been tracking the achievement progress and when I cooked some for the recipe personal achievement, I noticed it ticked up for the Guild one - ~200 later and still going! Should make getting it easier since I've got loads of cooking awards doing nothing.

This achievement is currently un-achievable. Before MoP came out Blizzard made a change to this achievement that only allowed level 85 food to count towards this achievement, then when MoP went live they downgraded all Cataclysm food to level 80. There is no recipe in the Cataclysm list that will tick this achievement over at the moment. I made a ticket and a GM got back to me in game and after some discussion, they decided this was a legitimate issue and my theory was a good guess as to why (i.e. they downgraded the recipe level but didn't change the code to allow the previous level 85 recipes to continue to count). He said it was too late to add the fix to the 5.2 patch and were unsure whether it would need to wait for the next patch or might be able to get a hotfix before that time. But they are now aware of the issue and are working on a solution. I tested it, by making one of each Cata recipe and not one of them ticked off this achievement for my guild. So hold on to your mats, unless you need that food, and wait till they fix this before you start cooking a lot of Cata food to try to complete this guild achievement.

As of 6/19/13, this trick works.

For mages, you can fill your backpack with anything, so that the backpack is full, but make sure the first slot of your bag right next to the backpack is empty. write this script in a macro:

/script PickupContainerItem(1, 1) DeleteCursorItem()
/cast conjure refreshment

put the macro on number 1 of your action bar (or whichever hotkey you prefer. bang the snot out of that hotkey and watch the achiev roll the numbers. works for both cata and panda guild achievs (Get some chopsticks) and (Time to open a restaurant).

If you have a gaming keyboard with a macro button ability, set one of your buttons to tap "1" repeatedly. AFK achievement for the win! Make sure the first slot of your far right bag is empty, so your conjured food can drop into that slot, and make sure your backpack is loaded. Always a good idea to test the macro first to make sure you have everything set right. Also a good idea to not have anything super valuable in your bags on your first go at it to avoid accidental deleting of items.

I'm not 100% sure, but seeing this happening in my own guild, I think the requirement have changed from Cataclysm recipes so that also making MoP recipes count towards the acheviement.

Some Pandaria recipes seem to count towards this too. I just got our guild this achievement while I was cooking up a batch of Eternal Blossom Fish.

A lot of the recipes you can buy for some reason do NOT Gain a tick for the achievement which is really weird. I can confirm that cookingCharbroiled Tiger Steak Will give both a tick for the MoP Cooking achieve for the guild and the Cata one. The tiger meat is usually pretty cheap also. Around 20s a pop on my realm.

Edit: I just tested with other recipes and it seems that you can gain a tick for both this achieve and the MoP one with any of the first cooking recipes in each of the cooking ways. If materials are not cheap on your server then the quickest and most effective way to get this done would be to buy Ginseng and make Ginseng tea.

WoD recipes count towards this achievement. An easy way to grind this out is to look for the cheapest fish on your server and use it's recipe.

Cleaning out a guild tab tonight, I decided to just cook through all the Cata recipes to help with this achieve. To my dismay, none of the recipes were counting. Seeing all the posts here, I assumed that at some point various recipes were added/subtracted since Catalyzt's very awesome post. So I got out some colored markers and paper and went on a quest to verify each and every Cata recipe.
Spoiler Alert: none of them worked until I was getting to the very end. Then I suddenly got a bump of +35 recipes in the achievement.

Lesson: Give it a minute or two when checking the ticker on the in-game achieve notice. It's not instantaneous. Also, because of this, I think a lot of these "X doesn't work anymore!" posts above are wrong. I already tried hard to right this wrong, but I'm not going back through again to check. As far as I can tell, Catalyzt's list is accurate, plus many (if not all) later recipes from future expacs. GL.

A couple of comments/ideas for anyone still working on unlocking this achievement.

First: The achievement does NOT update automatically if you have the Guild Achievement window open and the achievement highlighted. It IS still crediting your tracker, but the count will not update in the window until you click on a different achievement and then go back to Set the Oven to "Cataclysmic". Don't panic. It's still working as long as you're using eligible recipes.

Second: Since you need non-vendor ingredients for this achievement, an easy way to get about 50 points a day for very minimal time investment is go go run ZG. Kill the Gurubashi Master Chef, Gub, Tor-Tun, and the Razzashi Adders (near Kilnara's temple.) You'll get roughly 60 ingredients a day that can be turned into eligible achievement meals for about 5 minutes of work, and can go after Armored Razzashi Raptor and Swift Zulian Panther while you're at it. It makes it feel less grindy, and takes very minimal time/effort for the achievement, as long as you're a little patient. Doing it this way will unlock the recipe in a little under 3 months using a single toon, and much faster if you're running multiple toons a day.

Perfectly Cooked Instant Noodles is my go-to for this achievement. Mats can be bought from Stephen Wong (Horde) in Shrine of Two Moons for 70s each. Then just throw down a cooking fire, put on your Chef Hat, and cook!

~~this achievement seems to be broken as of shadowlands, trying many recipes, none of which seem to have increased my guilds progress~~

so testing further, it seems that both this, and get some chopsticks are increased by shadowlands recipes, and only shadowlands recipes. maybe something to do with the required level of the food? no idea

In case you want to do this in shadowlands:

Only current recipes count. NOT cataclysm recipes. You have to cook shadowlands stuff.

The cheapest way to do this is with Pickled Meat Smoothie since Aethereal Meat costs close to nothing (5-20 silver on my realm) and the other 2 items can be bought in Oribos.

Just crafted 3500 to get this achievment for a price of 1000g.

Any help on an updated (2021) list of recipies would be much appreciated. Nothing I'm cooking is counting anymore. I have read every forum and tried many (MANY) different recipies but can't seem to move forward on this achievement.

Is there leveling point? i.e., I'm topped at level 50 unless I roll into Shadowlands
Is there a cooking or recipe level that I'm have out-leveled and need to go find higher level recipies?

Sorry if this is an obvious answer but I'm just not getting it. Thanks ahead of time.

Hate to say, I've found this to be broken. No matter who cooks a Catta food item in my guild, be it in normal time or Catta time, it's not counting.

I've tested Cata, Dragonflight, Northrend, and Shadowlands cooking, as of 3/11/23.

SL recipes work, and *only* SL recipes. I wonder if the bug is that only the last expansion gives credit? It's quite odd.
