This is a fantastic racial ability and remains on one of my hotbars to this day. I can only assume it will stay there through lvl 70 too.

Use this in conjunction with an enemy castbar mod and it becomes MUCH more useful since you can see what an enemy is casting.

The second I notice fear, sleep, or charm/seduction I click this and the 5 sec duration is longer than the cast times for those spells, so I know it will be active when the opponent's spell completes.

PVP uses: mainly anti-succubus, anti-lock/priest fears -- i don't get put to sleep much in BGs.

....and I beat you to comment on a racial abilty Ennui. :-D

Quite possibly the best PvP oriented racial in the game, WotF allows undead players to break Crowd Control efforts in an already very fast paced PvP environment, which is a huge advantage. With the introduction of PvP trinkets, refined resists, diminished affects in TBC, and longer lasting battles in TBC, this racial will be less and less significant, but it is still an amazing countermeasure.

It still works great for Undead Warriors during pve encounters where fear is present. While we do not have Fear Ward in our capabilities the usage of WoTF if you cannot stance dance fast enough proves to help greatly. Great PvP skill but just as good PvE skill so don't forget to use it! Since it seems that people overlook its usage in the pve game.

I believe this is the reason that the Horde faction did not recieve a priest capable of casting Fear Ward =P Fear Ward+WotF+Trinket is much too powerful ^^ Then again, being a pally, I have Unyielding Faith (10%)+Shadow Resistance Aura (~5-10%)+Natural resistance (+5%) making about 25% chance to resist fear anyway =) You UD are quite lucky...cherish your gift!

Note, it also removes a Warriors Intimidating Shout...Some abbilities do not as it is treated as a Physical effect rather than a Magical one =)

Speaking strictly of PvP, this is the most useful racial ability in game.

While others may play a minor role in the outcome of a fight - this spell acts as a deciding factor in who will win. Especially good for a melee class such as rogues or warriors, seeing as how priests/warlocks use fear as a means of escape, or putting distance between you and them so that they can cast spells on you while you're incapacitated.

However, this ability fails to match Fear Ward in the capacity of PvE raiding, but only because the spell is self-applicable. If you're a tank, or even any other class within range of a fear, of course this will help you, but that's as far as it will go - only to help the caster.

Less signifigant? Having two anti fear abilities is tremendous. Being able to use 1 while the other is on cooldown... priceless.

If you are a level 19 twink rogue facing a level 19 twink warlock, on their first fear kick, when they can fear again pop this and you should be able to have killed it enough by then. Best PvP racial ever.

I didnt notice i had this right away on my first undead character as it was not already on one of the actionbars. I did have alot of UI mods so it could have got lost in the custom interface somewhere.

Could someone confirm if it appears on a bar or not when you start?

I have one question, as i started just a while ago...
Does this "breaks" fear, or you have to use it beforehand to gain immunity?
As in the second case it wouldn't be useful against instant cast fear effects...
Can someone tell me please?

They really should just call this Will of the Broken. Easily the best racial for PVP and has many PVE uses as well. Note that it will not dispell horror from Deathcoil and other non-fear but fear-like spells. Not to worry though, you can't active it when under the influence of horror so no worry about wasting it.

Imo opinion needs a minor nerf after 2.3, something along the lines of no being able to pop it when already feared. Or small chance it won't work.

As Archangel hints at further up the page, the reason it needs nerfing in 2.3: undead priests and the Fear Ward change.

Trinket, Fear Ward and Racial = too many CC get outs compared to other classes = a little bit imbalanced. Alliance Priests, Warlocks and Warriors essential have no CC for many encounters. Not the end of the world ofc, but balancing the game is all about addressing these issues. When you change something as big as fear ward you have to balance it out elsewhere.

WotF is not a priest trait, Stop comparing it to them. Besides, ally who had fear ward now get a free stun/interupt (incapasitate, whatever). Dont tell me that won't come in handy.

This removes the mind control spell as well from my experience. Apperently it counts as a charm effect (wouldn't seem like fear or sleep to me)

hey i've noticed something ... if u go do SM cath and the last boss (whitemane) puts the whole party to SLEEP ... using this DOES NOT remove it. i wonder why ............

Well it looks like sleep but it's actually a stun....seeing as how when you clixk it, it says "Can not be used while stunned".....also its impossible to make her die before that...My 70 lock threw lots of DoTs on her and she was at 1% for a good 5 seconds.....so yeah..its impossible to kill her before she resses Mograine

Receiving a well deserved nerf in Wrath, this ability will no longer grant immunity to effects for 5 seconds after the break. It now functions only as an extra PvP Trinket.

This change isn't totally a nerf.
In most cases, you want to get hit with the debuff before using WotF to break out, so as to trigger Diminishing Returns.
Generally, using it to set up immunity was a bad habit.

My question is, why would anyone legitimately want to roll an Undead over a Human at this juncture? Every Man For Himself does everything WotF does, only more; more to the point, it frees up a trinket slot for our good living buddies.

If Every Man For Himself stays in the game, WotF either needs to be pretty massively buffed, or removed and replaced.

Ah, the memories of this lasting 25 seconds in the past, giving immunity to charm, fear and sheep for almost half a minute. Used to drive the warlocks and co crazy!

Now it's whittled down to a PvP trinket like effect.

These are all the spells that a player can use and WOTF can cancel Intimidating Shout, Fear, Howl of Terror, Seduction, Psychic Scream, Mind Control,Wyvern Sting and i guess thats it. If you find any others, post me..

Now that spell no longer has an immunite effect after using it, but it seems that you still have 0.5 sec of immunity after using will of the forsaken.

Are you kidding me? Every Man for Himself is a true PvP trinket. If Will of the Forsaken is Overpowered, what does that make EMfH? WotF is certainly helpful in PvP but it's not a replacement for a true PvP trinket because it doesn't break the same crowd control elements such as being sheeped, hexed, rooted, etc. WotF is predominantly used to break fear effects as Charm and Sleep are generally less used.

If any racial is overpowered, it is the Human one, especially with the upcoming change to WotF in 3.3:

Why everyone says the human racial is still more nerfed? Will of the Forsaken gets rid just of charms, sleeps and fear effects, not blind, incapitates, stuns etc. It doesn´t give us another free trinket slot..

I know everyone says its just 45s.. BUT is it necessary? I mean, its just freaking Fear, Sleep, and Charms.. The (i think) least used CCs (except that Fear, but still not in the top 5 CCs)...

So why do you think it should be on par with the human racial, especially WHY blizz thinks that? Undead race is now completly useless, because when i use MY racial, which should be something exclusive, it isn´t because i practically cant use PvP trinket for another 45s..

So in the arena, vs Rogue/Lock its like GG already.. Fear, WoTF, Blind, zerg partner..

At least, dont make WoTF cooldown PvP trinket, it should be OK vice versa, if you really want to nerf that..

Keep in mind that the reduced effectiveness of this racial is still in the development phase.

The PTR is designed for testing purposes. If the nerf makes the racial absolutely useless, I can assume they will reverse it. (Unless it turns out to be like Endurance.)

As to my opinion, I don't think they will reverse this decision. I think that some kind of nerf needs to be put in place to reduce the ability to chain break CCs, but I believe a 10, maybe 20 second cooldown could do that.

The difference between WotF and EMfH, if the nerf makes it through, will be the shared cooldown. The Human racial places all similar trinkets on a 2 minute cooldown. WotF will only place them on a 45 second cooldown. So effectively you can still break out of 2 possible CC's every 2 minutes (if you have a PvP trinket) compared to a Human's one 'break' per 2 minutes. Since WotF only affects a few CC's, you basically have to use the right ability (trinket or racial) for the right occasion.

Another great example of how blizzard listens to who QQs the most. Let me compare all racials that break CCs and their effectiveness.

WOTF: 2 minutes CD, will add a 45 seconds CD on the racial trinket soon. It breaks fear, charm and sleep, useful against warriors, priests and warlocks for the most part.

Escape Artist: 1 minute 45 seconds CD, it breaks slows,immos. Those are used by Mages, hunters, warriors, DKs, shamans, druids, etc.... Personally, I prefer this skill over WOTF to break out of druid's root, mage's initial bursts of iced in place + slow, hunter's traps and wing clip. Druid's ice cage thing, warrior's hamstring to flee. This obviously isn't getting nerfed because horde barely QQs compared to the ton of QQ on the alliance forums (go look it up yourself).

EMFH: 2 minutes CD, breaks all CC, 'nuff said, shares CD with the racial trinket. This allows human players to slot an entirely different trinket in their trinket slot. For instance, in arena, you'll notice that almost every player has racial trinket + battlemaster, or something similar. You'll notice that 99% of humans have battlemaster and either a good PVE trinket or the WG trinket that adds resilience and an on-use bonus.

Now, Escape Artist is also situational when compared to WoTF. If you use it to break the hamstring of a warrior that can hamstring you right back, it's useless. Just like using WoTF to break out of fear just as the warlock predicts you'll be using it and get hit by a fear again. Both are pretty pointless if the opponent is prepared. Now, if you use Escape Artist to break out of a frost mage's initial CC burst, it's freaking OP. Same if you use it to break out of a druid's root or an ele shaman's totem root, they're pretty much screwed since it allows you to pummel them some more/flee. Same if you use WoTF when a priests uses their howl of whatever, it's their main CC skill as far as I know, so they're screwed if it use it, making it OP.

Now, EMFH, applicable to all situations, no honor requirement so a noob can use it anytime. Especially OP when leveling up since there are no honor trinket from BG levels as far as I know.

So this nerf is really unwarranted if you ask me, they just throw band-aids at everything to please the whiners and make it easier for the good players of their faction.

To be honest, they need to revamp ALL the racials. You don't just change ONE racial and hope that everything balances out in the end. EMFH has been QQed about since the dawn of WOTLK, and they haven't changed it. Allies have been QQing about WOTF since the dawn of it (I have to admit it was pretty op in PVP when it gave 5 seconds of immunity, even more so when it was 20 seconds). And they finally listened, and what did they do when they made the change? All other racials go a massive revamp. Now what do they do? Throw a nerf and ignore all other problems.

Any player could obtain an Insignia quite early this expansion and it will prob. be like this in the coming expansion aswell.

As many, many and again many had sad before: No1 knows how Blizzard are thinking. But I partly believe that Blizzard still want to se more Races on the competitive level. Instead of the large majority choosing/playing undead. This can not be said about alliance as racial fluxing at the alliane side is believed to be huge.

In my oppinion, this didn't deserve the nerf...... It's been their racial for as long as ived played and thats been for quite a while
I think they also need to nerf everyman for himself, this is why undead were so good imo.... and it was their choice to roll that race.... so you can't really complain about it, its your fault you didn't even roll undead....

My discovery that Will of the Forsaken shared a cooldown with Insignia of the Horde, was the clincher on my Warlock's race-change from Forsaken to Orc.

Before that, I was hemming and hawing. I really liked being able to Cannibalize my enemies so frequently for a substantial bit of healing. (FREE MANA for a Warlock) The Orc's +5% Pet Bonus and Blood Fury were both interesting. But it took for WotF to become incomparably weaker than a cheap trinket (and incapable of being used WITH the trinket) for me to be willing to make the move.

Finaly the undead cloning machine has been broken. Seriously guys like 50% of the worldwide horde players are undead. And like 20 % of them are rogues. Finaly this has been put down. I was very depressed for seeing so much undeads so i stopped playing WoW. Finaly i can come back once more. I always said that orc's racial (Hardiness i think was the name) is far better. After all who would choose a 45 seconds cooldown ability which shares cooldown with Insignia, medallion and runes instead of 25% stun time reduction (Hardinesss + the meta gem). Undeads are still a nice choice, but not so seducing anymore.

This nerf really made me put on my rageface. I don't care what anyone says, a cooldown is a cooldown. It may only be 45 seconds, but the same people who say that's not a lot obviously don't PvP enough to know that a single second of an ability/trinket on CD could mean you dying. EMFH is basically a free PvP trinket from level 1, while the only thing WotF is really useful for is fear, which isn't even barely helpful because locks can chain fear, so it's almost completely useless.

Undead for 5 years and was always QQing about the racial not even being half of EMFH, now Blizzard has the balls to nerf OUR racial?

looking at the other racials in Cata, WotF has got to be the BEST racial for pvp by miles. Again.

Why anyone would claim a 2nd pvp trinket sucks, even if it only breaks situational CC other races have to wait 2min where as you only wait 30sec.

It's worth noting for undead hunters that using Bestial Wrath will also trigger the 30s cooldown on Will of the Forsaken. Luckily, it doesn't work the other way around.

Just in case anyone else was thinking like me that using this might incur a 2min cooldown for the pvp trinket, it doesnt, It only incurs a 30 sec cooldown, so its still useful for the effects it breaks :)

As it stands as of today this will be nerfed, again,in the new expansion WOD

Its cooldown is being changed from 2 minutes, to 3 minutes. This used to be a 1 minute cd, and did not share a dr with anything like pvp trinkets.

On another note Undead will be able to stay underwater indefinitely without needing air.Undead in the past were able to stay underwater longer,which was balanced with other classes under water breathing, and now buffed.
