A great trick for the Ritual of Summoning is for the Warlock to select himself and two party members "summon" him. This brings up the Summon Accept screen and it gives you 2 minutes before it wears off. The Warlock may then hearth and repair, buy food/water for the group, or whatever else they want in two minutes. They then simply accept the summon from themselves. Voila! No time walking back.

Creative game mechanic use!

(Note: This isn't as useful for 5 man instances now with meeting stones summoning. It is still useful for questing, random grouping, and raid areas. Also, I have never tested it with battle grounds, but I assume it would *not* work since the they are an instanced area and you can't summon into instances.)

This is one of the gems you get for being a Warlock. It is so much fun! Work together with a mage friend to trick people into teleporting themselves away. Drop people off cliffs by summoning them over the edge. Summon friends to weird places you got into, summon low level characters to high level places!

My favorite use of this spell is flying to the very top of Aldor Rise; there are hovering stone pieces that look like halves of an arch. Ask in trade if anybody wants free summons to Shattrath, then invite them when you already have a couple of friends with flying mounts with you, and summon them at the very top. The only way most classes can get down is by dying...what's funnier, most people thank me before jumping to their unavoidable death!

Yes it is true as of 2.4 you will be able to summon into instances as long as the target meets the level requirements of the instance.

Can't be used in Zul'aman as of patch 2.4.2, strangely. Can be annoying when someone accidentally runs back after dying to Jan'alai and forgets the scouts have a fast respawn timer.

Waiting near a Meeting stone is one of the best ways to get money as a Warlock. People will want you to summon other people for a variety of reasons (the "summonee" is too high or low level for the stone or something), and they'll usually tip pretty well.

At least they should. Unlike Mages, who only have to buy a little rune for a transport spell, Warlocks need 2 helpers and an item that they only get by putting their life at risk (that might be a little exaggerated, but you still have to kill something that can kill you just to get a Shard).

According to wowhead, this spell will be changed on patch 3.0.8

Will now create a summoning portal object which can be re-used for multiple summons for 5 minutes.

1 shard for 5 minutes of summons is definitely a huge improvement!

does it still plop the portal over your character in 3.0.8 with the summon casket thingy?

i think it looks a little bit ugly have a portal covering yourself and then a huge tauren poofing into your personal space

i know they changed it so locks cant summon people off cliffs and stuff but couldnt they have made the portal float above your head or something?

The Changes to Ritual of Summoning that were expected for 3.08 willl not be seen for a few days after the patch. Blizzard found an exploit jsut before releasing it and simply disabled the stone for now. So for now, the summon stone will jsut have a 2 minute cooldown and no new features.

The new ritual stone can be used by anyone, even if they are not in the group. Unsure if this goes as far as to work cross-faction, seeking more information.

3.0.8a was released today. The "new" patch corrected the ritual of summoning. Now it creates a green portal like Ritual of Souls. Once 2 other party members click it, a stone appears and the stone itself acts like a summoning stone found at most instances. The stone lasts 5 mins and the cool down is still 2 mins for the actual spell. Happy summoning

Id also like to add that blizz made the new "warlock summoning stone" totally sweet looking!

For some fun, put one of the new stones up at the open doorways in the base of Naxxramas. Then, a druid in flight form can start a summon while they're flying over open air, and someone on the ledge can click the portal to complete it. The result? Good old-fashioned summon of doom.

Blizzard may try to fix this, but it remains to be seen.

If you summon a person who is in a different phase than you, when you summon them will they go in the same phase as you or will they be summoned in there phase in the spot where you summoned them?

I used to do a lot of mean/funny stuff with this spell on my lock back pre-bc.

The classic one I can remember was summoning lowbies or guildies into the gurubashi arena and then killing them.

Summoning underwater was fun as well, I used to know a spot in a sunken ship where you could summon someone and he wouldnt be able to get out without drowning (this was well before the whole impossible to drown thing). We were of course sitting there with water breathing on having a good chuckle.

It is entirely possible to use another warlock's summoning stone.

I just used to to summon a few slackers in Dalaran. There were no error messages.

Ok, I hope somebody will help me here. Ritual of Summoning for Dummies, please.
So you are in a 5 man dungeon group. Somebody has died, maybe no healer to res.
You click on ritual of summoning and after a lengthy time the portal appears.
Exactly when do you (and 2 others) click on the revived party to pull them to your location? I'm not sure why this is over my head. I keep thinking that it's so long and complicated I will never know if it works.
Can anybody help me with this?

This spell now costs 42 mana and is learnt at level 42, and yes it is the answer to everything, even to lazy players who can't be bothered to fly to the raid's location.

You can't use this to summon a Goblin, Worgen, Pandaren or a Death Knight character who hasn't completed the starting area quests.

Summoning Stones don't work either.

Kinda makes me mad that when we had the guild perk summon, we could do it on our own, but this spell still needs you plus 2 other players to use it...even the dungeon summoning stones only take 2 people. Come on Blizz when are you gonna make this spell more usable : (
