Like previously stated any hostile actions will break invisibility, but if you break invisibility 2 seconds in, you still lost some threat during those 2 seconds. Evocation+Invisible is now viable when raiding, because by the time they are both done (5seconds) you should have full mana and 0 threat ^_^. This is effective for thwarting death before wipes :D you pop invisibility go ooc and dont worry about dieing.

I have a question it says no hostile actions but what about Bandaging.. it is not a hostile actiong it would be like a paladin healing himself with divine protection which doesn't allow hostile actions so in that sense wouldn't drinking in a sense be a non hostile action?.. Idk if you can drink while under divine protection but in all fairness...

Pretty much anything you do other than run (and don't get hit) cancels the effect.

Frost Nova + run and invisible does indeed reset the mobs so long as you don't get hit during that 5 seconds until you turn invisible.

Mounting cancels it. Blink will cancel it. Bandaging cancels it. Eating or drinking cancels it.

If you have a DOT on you it will cancel on the first tick of the dot.

A lot of good points were made by other people, like getting taken out of combat, etc, but one thing I don't like about the fade (in more of a PvP and solo PvE perspective) is that even if you have Ice barrier or Mana Shield up you still lose the fade effect if you get hit. (and all of the damage is absorbed)

If the fade would continue even after damage taken is completely absorbed as well as possibly a shorter cooldown on the skill (maybe just a minute or two taken off) I would enjoy it a lot more.

This does not share a cooldown with invisibility potions, so you can bust out up to 38 seconds of invisibility if you use one at the last second of the spell.

I've never been able to eat/drink while invisible on boss fights. It gives me the error message saying I'm still in combat. However if the group wipes, I don't get boss aggro when I'm invisible and I can survive. I haven't tested it on non-boss encounters (mainly because I don't go OOM on trash pulls,) so I don't know if you can go invisible and eat/drink then.

edit: Yes, I'm referring to raid bosses. 5-man "bosses" are still just level X elites and not actually tagged as a boss.

They nerfed this skill. You used to be able to cast while this was on, reducing your threat until your cast goes off (I would just right click it off) but now as soon as you start casting it goes off. This takes off a lot of useability from it, like trying to keep Scorch up.

What would be great here if someone posted a comprehensive guide on the tactics, mechanics and cool stuff you can do with Invisibility. One that is a definitive guide, not with all this arguing about out of combat crap etc and people contradicting each other.

Was raiding UC today and found out that just after you enter the main gates of Undercity, there are some level 15 invisible ghosts that can only be seen while invisible. Not really relevant to this spell, but I thought that if you have to use it to see them, maybe it was worth posting it if someone wanted to know. :)

I didn't have enough time to check them out because I had to leave right after I found it out, so will check back tomorrow and see if they are in the circular room as well. (The one you hear voices in if you stay there some time and listen carefully.)

I think it's a shame that this ability was turned into an aggro dumping tool, rather than a true stealthing ability. I'm not saying it should have been just like a Rogue or Druid's stealth, but 20 seconds every 5 minutes is pretty restricting.

Having Mages along on "stealth runs" would certainly be very nice. It was even alluded to by Blizzard posters on the forums some time back, but it just doesn't seem very plausible with the spell as it is now.

I hope that we can expect a new rank or two of this spell in the coming expansion to up its duration, and perhaps increase its usefulness beyond dumping aggro and escaping combat.

Just to clarify, while fading, do those around you lose sight of you at a certain point as if higher and higher levels of Stealth were being applied? So far as I can tell from PvP usage, enemies can clearly see you for the full 5 seconds, but that's just perception.

Dont expect this ability to actually DO anything at bosses in T6 Encounters, it relies on luck against several bosses, ie that you dont get hit from aoe abilities (Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Azgalor, Shazrah) or isn't even an option on several boss encounters (Kaz'rogal (dont have time to spend 5 sec doing nothing), Teron Gorefiend, and Essence of Wrath, good luck with periodic auradmg every 3rd second.

Using Invisibility in PVP(Particularly Arathi Basin) can be useful when the Horde or Alliance are fighting away from the flag; and sometimes when players go "AFK" while standing next to the flag.

On several occasions in Arathi Basin I have gone Invis, ran up to the side of the flag where I am least likely to be seen, and started to assault it.

Occasionally when I reappear there have been Horde members standing right next to me, but for whatever reason, be it 'shock', 'AFKness', or pure stupidity I have been able to assault it right before their eyes.

Now, I would never encourage solo missions in AB, but this tactic can be very useful in close games when one assult- even if the Horde is able to eventually defend it- can be the deciing factor between victory and failure.

It says that if you receive any actions, the effect is broken. People have equated this to damaging effects and the like in the comments that I've read.

DOT ticks will cancel the effect, is what's been said.

Will HOT ticks on you cancel invisibility?

As in, Renew + Invis?

Just sent Blizzard my compliment about 'Flare'...

That just makes no sense at all, why does it break Invisibility? I understand it breaking stealth, really understanble and It's meant to break stealth but Invisibility..?

It's a spell, a magical ability, some kinda 'light' shouldn't be able to break it...

If some more could send the same compliment to Blizz with their regards (lol), they may fix it on next patch.

The spell says it drops threat every one second for 3 seconds until you turn invisible, I assume you drop 1/3 of your threat every second, but can anyone confirm?

If you use a Swiftness Potion right before you cast Invisibility then the speed effect still stays on. You can also drink the potion while fading. Don't drink it when you're totally invisible or you'll break the invisibility buff.

This can be very useful for getting past mobs as well as a good way to escape any combat.

From my experience if u turn invisible with ur elemental out the mobs will be waiting for you 2 reapper on the spot and when u do they all come running

Pretty cool move. If you pull too many mobs and have enough distance you can get away hopefully.

In addition, it plays the ghost music when you're invisible, and that music is probably some of my favorite in the game.

If you use this in the courtyard above the Undercity (in the Ruins of Lordaeron) you can see the ghosts of Lordaeron citizens. If you use an instant cast spell, you can kill the ghosts. But if you use a longer cast spell then the invisibility cancels before you cast and there's "no target"

This also has a semiuseful instance use. If you pull too much threat in an instance and are about to beat the tank out at it, using this will greatly drop your threat rating so you can start over.

You can see the pally Consecration "dust", and presumably other AoE effects while invisible. Steer clear: if you get hit, you're visible again.

Does it stop threat generated by guards? Could you essentially kill a member of the opposing faction in a town like Gadgetzan and quickly go invisible before the guards could kill you? (Though it would probably be easier if this is possible to have Prismatic cloak to reduce the fading time)

I really can't believe no one has mentioned this yet, but this spell is AMAZING for BGing in Strand of Ancients.

When you're attacking, instead of jumping in the huge, slow, unwieldy Demolisher that screams "FOCUS FIRE ME," nab a Seaforium Charge, and start running for the gate, making sure to stay the hell away from the Demolisher, or wherever the action is.

Take advantage of the confusion, and go Invisible. You will almost definitely have a clear path to the gates, although you should make sure that you avoid any Warlocks and their vision. Get to the gate, plant the Seaforium, and run back to get more.

This is especially useful for the last gate and the relic chamber, where all the major fighting will be. Make sure to avoid where you think will be AoE.

Lifeblood can actually be cast while invisible-A nice way to regen a little hp if your using this spell as an escape move!

I find this spell very useful for escaping when in trouble.

Even when you didn't spend talent points in this skill, 3 seconds fade time seems to be nothing to worry about.
In my experience, it can very easily save my life if i use this skill when i'm low on HP

The biggest downside while escaping with this skill, is you don't see any monsters while escaping. If your invisibility is about to end, you must be sure the location where you moved to doesn't have mobs hanging around.

As of 3.2.0 you can take damage during the "fade out" phase without any complications.

In addition, does anyone know what happens to your water elemental, non combat pets, etc, while you are invisible? They do disappear, I suppose?

When you lifeblood invisible it will not only not break the invisible effect as it's not going to proc any animation (those little flowers on the floor) so you don't have to worry about your enemy knowing where you're.

Edit: About the pets and stuff, they're still gonna be on combat and if your pet is still on combat and you just got out of invisible you'll still be on combat regardless, but if it dies/disappears while you're invisible you'll be again out of combat.

Macro I use for this spell. Nice to have a 1-button cast/cancel especially in dungeon or raid situations where you might need a quick threat dump. Pressing one button twice is easier than searching through a sea of buffs for a single icon to click.

Here's a nice one button escape macro if you have dots or a group pounding on you:

/castsequence reset=15 Ice Block,Blink,Blazing Speed,Invisibility
This will cast in sequence Ice Block, Blink, Blazing Speed, then Invisibility. Hold shift and press the button again after you ice blocked to cancel it you'll blink away at the same time. Then once more to invis. Up to you if you want Blink and Blazing Speed in there since they both use a GCD, but I like it because they give you a head start in running away out of melee range. Plus, Glyph of Blink can give even more distance. Blazing Speed has the added benefit of suppressing any slows that may get applied after unblocking. If you use the Greater Invisibility talent, you can safely vanish right away with this macro. The 15 sec reset is there in case you want to wait out in the Ice Block before blinking and the macro won't reset.

It would now seem that you can see enemies while invisible (in addition to allies). I've had it this way since the 4.0.1 patch. It might be a bug, but I'm hoping it's not.

As of 4.0, you can now see other people while invisible, not just people that can see you. Those that can see you will have an icon over their head. (Shaped like a large orb with 2 smaller orbs orbiting it.)

4.0.1 raised the level requirement for this spell to 78.

Seems a strange move. Most interesting abilities had their level requirements lowered.

This spell has come some ways since its original implementation. It's a lot more useful now, being able to see everyone when you are invisible is a great change it has made much more powerful.

Most people forget that mages can turn invisible (a.k.a. stealth). This spell has a lot utility in PvP and can help escape from sticky PvE situations. Remember that the spell takes 3 seconds without talents to be considered 'stealthed'

PvP
Can be used to sneak behind a large mob of players unnoticed and then begin to attack from behind. If glyphed, you earn +40% speed and that can really help out to cover ground unmounted.

PvE
Can be used to escape tough enemies. Remember that this spell takes 3 seconds without talents to have full effect. Frost nova and then a blink is useful to handle the fade time.

- This talent will decrease the fade time 1 second per talent point and is a 3rd tier arcane talent.

Now that we, mages can actually see people while invisible, it came at a price. We can no longer see other invisible mages. Found this the hard way in arena today. We were both invisible and I did not see him coming.

The fact the he still got the jump on me, despite that, is still a mystery. I'm open to ideas as to how he knew where I was.

Using Invisiblity gives a Washed out view, and also creates a fog, lowering how far you can see, but meh. Mages arn't Rogues.

Invisibility followed by invisibility potion followed by the engineer trinket should get you about 48 seconds of invisibility. I believe engineering has a belt that turns you invisible also. 🔱
