This spell can be taken off your action bars once you get Divine Shield. Divine Shield is a direct replacement of this ability much like purify is replaced by cleanse.

This (WotLK Version) + Ardent Defender = 80% Damage Reduction for 12 seconds WHILE below 35% HP. Suddenly that 8000 Corrupting Strike from Sathrovarr becomes a 1400 Corrupting Strike.

And think of the crit happy mage in AV. Suddenly when they try to pyro you for 6K, putting up fire res aura too, you're getting hit for 1200 maximum and that's before fire res kicks in ;). And what do you do after? Run up to them, Avengers shield from afar, slam their face with a Hammer of the Righteous shortly followed by a Shield of the Righteous. And don't forget your judgement, and the fact you're still in your damage reduction bubble.

Let me just ask the few questions a Paladin Tank should want to know...

Does this temporarily nullify agro like Divine Shield? (assuming so)

Does this remove debuffs now? (doubting)

Has Forbearance really been extended to 3 minutes? (meaning if this doesn't remove debuffs I need to be -very- careful and not use whenever up)

While it's all good and fun that we've got this fantastic damage reduction, has anyone checked out Icebound Fortitude?

50% damage reduction, no attack speed slow down (this isn't so noticable for us tanks, as we'll be specced for it, but still...), immunity to stun effects, lasts up to 18 seconds (with Guile of the Gorefiend talent) and a 1 min CD. I think Pallies and warriors just got screwed.

This ability should require a shield, IMO. It's clearly meant to be a paladin's version of Shield Wall, but it seems unfair to me that ret pallys can use it in PVP while they keep banging on you with their 2hander, while warriors have to equip a shield to use theirs.

Somewhat of an improved, but gimped, Barkskin. Improved, because of 50% reduce, gimped, because of slowed ATK Speed, and 5 minute CD, opposed to one minute barkskin CD. Also, Barkskin stops spell pushback. Personally, more situational, like in Patchwerks soft enrage. Still useful, I'd suggest you save it for when times get tough. I saw my guilds Protadin use it on Thaddius enrage, we lasted an extra 10 seconds, and beat him. Our healers we frantically spamming heals, and using instants to keep him up, heh.

This is a great "filler" ability for retribution for those times where you are being kited and waiting for one of the main abilites to finish cd.

I find that most people often forget that this even exists. Not only that but they don't realize that it no longer causes forebearance and it's available to all Paladins regardless of spec.

I myself didn't even realize this spell was useful to me (a holy paladin) until Nefarian. Holy paladins actually can talent this to reduce it's cooldown by 20 seconds. This made it incredibly useful for negating a decent portion of Nefarians crackle ability.

In fact this spell can be incredibly useful for partially negating boss damage that comes in predictable cycles, or just when you've already exhausted DS/HoP/LoH and whatever else you have in your toolbox to stay alive.

Bottom line: This can be very useful for non-prot Paladins, don't forget you have it!

Speed of Light now increases movement speed when Holy Radiance or Divine Protection are cast.

Note that our damage cooldown abilities stack multiplicatively rather than additively. So popping Ardent Defender, Divine Protection and together results in 68% less damage taken. A hit of 1000 is reduced to 320 damage.

4.3 PTR Change: Paragon of Virtue now reduces the cooldown of Divine Protection by 15/30 seconds, up from 10/20. This is to replace the missing spot when Holy Radiance was changed into a 3.0 second cast, no cooldown.

Another perk: it doesn't trigger the global cooldown.

All in all a super low cost spell (no time, barely any mana) with a nice benefit and short cooldown. New paladins, I'd suggest getting into the habit of "over-using" this to start -- give it a convenient keybind (I use R) and try popping it as soon as you get agro.

You can get more strategic with it later, but for many players I bet the biggest risk is simply falling into the habit of not using it at all. Which is a shame.

when glyphed, it gives %40 magic damage reduce. You can dance with cd-opened frost mage with Resistance Aura+Aura Mastery+This. Very very useful in both pve and pvp. Ragnaros's magma traps, seeds, Nefarian's crackle, magma pool etc..

no one ever uses this spell anyhow should be removed , I cant get a pally tank to use it or ever seen anyone use i, pressing a button is hard

In Mists of Pandaria this spell has changed. Basically the spell and glyph have been flip-flopped. The baseline spell now provides 40% magic reduction but can be glyphed to 20% magic\\20% physical. This is the reverse of how the spell and glyph have functioned prior to MoP.

OLD: Divine Protection - Reduces all damage taken by 20% for 10 sec.
Glyph of Divine Protection - Removes the physical damage reduction of your Divine Protection, but increases the magical damage reduction by 20%.

NEW: Divine Protection - Reduces magical damage taken by 40% for 10 sec.
Glyph of Divine Protection - Reduces the magical damage reduction of your Divine Protection to 20% but adds 20% physical damage reduction.
