well i dont know the mana pools that will be in WotLK but this spells caost an imense number of mana... i mean just by looking at stafall and typhoon u "burn" almost 3k mana, which in my mind is a lot... but as i sayed i dont know what mana pools will be in WotLK so....

The stars fall at which frequency during the 10 sec time?

1 per sec? 1 every 2 sec?

Because it would be interesting to use it at least with a minimum number of targets to use up all the 20 stars during that period... and all closed together so they can take the AoE dmg from each other...

Imagine how much dmg would cause with 20 targets packed together?

A maximum of 2 stars fall every second for 10 seconds, assuming you have at least 2 targets in range.

Pulling extra mobs isn't that big of a deal, cuz a mages blizzard is a 30 yd range. If you got a pally tank or apparently a dk tank or with the new additions even a rage tank, you can pop this without worry pretty easily. It just requires knowing your surroundings.

Personally i think this is freakin awesome spell. And when wotlk comes out I might actually play my druid again. Cuz not only do you get damage from each star but you get damage from a hit target affecting targets near by. :D WOOT! Will be an excellect aoe. And will take the pressure off mages for aoe damage. :D

If you check the dispel type under spell descriptions, it says n/a
Therefore it's conclusive that this buff is undispellable/purgable.

This spell is very useful for AoE farming/grinding. You can gather up several mobs, activate this, then throw Barkskin on and start up a Hurricane.
I've found that the DPS output per mob is actually higher when you have FEWER mobs in range:
*2 mobs: Each mob will get hit by 10 stars (20/2=10).
*3 mobs: 2 mobs will get hit by 7 stars, one will get hit by 6 stars (6 stars minimum x 3 mobs=18 stars, 2 left to hit the mobs).
*4 mobs: Each mob hit by 5 stars (20/4=5)
*5 mobs: Each mob hit by 4 stars (20/5=4).

4-5 mobs is probably the most efficient usage from my guesses.

Pretty neat spell. I really think they could've done better with the animation, though. Like make a blue enrage or something instead of making rockets that explode into star confetti....

I find that this talent is quite useful. Even when you are fighting multiple enemies that are your level. I normally aggro 4-6 mobs, cast treants, cast starfall, typhoon, barkskin, then channel Hurricane. If they aren't dead, I heal and use Typhoon again. If they still aren't dead, my treants should be able to finish them off.

This can happen in 10-15 seconds. At level 68 that is about 2500 DPS.

This spell is actually not that great for leveling. Assuming you are leveling via questing (which you should be -- it gives the same XP/hour as even the most efficient grind, with added money, gear, and faction), the situations where you can make good use of Starfall are few. With less than 4 mobs in range it is a complete waste of mana, and having 4+ mobs beating on you virtually guarantees that you will have to heal afterward and/or pop long cooldowns. Then there is the issue others have mentioned with unintentional aggro, which is guaranteed to happen (no matter how careful you are), because this is not a targeted spell. Most quests in the game are designed around killing mobs one at a time; in my experience, it is almost always best to focus on burst DPS talents for single targets while leveling. I tried out Starfall, but it ended up being almost a waste of a talent point, however cool it looks. Starfall is a good AoE grinding ability, but AoE grinding is not the way to go.

Edit: where Starfall really shines is trash pulls in high-level raid instances, where you don't have to worry about aggro and you just want to kill things fast to get to the next boss. Many raiding boomkins take Starfall solely for that purpose, since obviously they will be putting 50 points in Balance anyway and it's only one extra point.

This really isn't true. Also, druid heals do not have cooldowns. Only one, which is a channeled spell. If you are in Moonkin form and have decently geared, the damage taken should be no problem. I have 7k health, decently geared with 9k mana.

My armor takes about 40% of damage, because I wear some cloth armor. Non-elite trash NPCs only do 100 to 150 damage every 2 seconds.

The treants should be able to keep aggro off long enough for you to deal at least 1/3 of the damage. So you shouldn't take anymore then 4000 damage. That leaves me with 3k health, enough to either heal, shadowmeld or drink a potion.

Unless its a typo(which blizz has done before) it would appear the splash dmg was removed. Its no longer on the tooltip on the cata talent(if it ever was). If this was fore mentioned I obviously missed it.

Starfall will no longer strike targets that are not in combat and will now drop stars at a slightly faster rate.

When they said "slightly faster rate" they meant all 20 stars will be fired off in the 10 second period. Confirmed on single mob pulls today, one use of Starfall, 20 hits. Oh happy days :D

can anyone confirm the fall rate of stars currently. i tried multiple tests, some with 40% haste some without to confirm haste wasn't a factor. I received differing results, recount recorded between 7 and 20 hits with no recognizable pattern. Im assuming either starfall is glitched, or recount is. I definitely saw the animation of the stars falling stop for periods of 2-3 seconds randomly, perhaps a bug with my target being in combat or not? anyone have any experience or thoughts on this topic?

On the first day of 4.0.6, I was super happy about this. Not so much for the loss of pulling, but the spell was dropping a star every half second per mob. I tried on a mob of 3, and blew through all my stars in almost 3 seconds. It was sick. But next day, it was back to what it always did, around one star per second. I was very sad about that... I just wish I had gotten a few videos of it while I had the chance. What's odd is I didnt see this mentioned in a hot fix, even though I showed off the rediculous drop rate many times in the course of the day.

Does it stack with itself if you end the cooldown before the buff expires with glyphed starsurge and very lucky shooting stars procs?

edit: i forgot to mention the Glyph of Starfall, bringing the cooldown to a mere 1min.
so it lasts 10sec, 1min CD, you can cut up to 50sec off the CD during these 10sec. should be possible to keep this always up, but not to stack it with itself.
in order to do this, you need to have close to 50% haste for 1sec GCD, thus allowing (assuming really many chain procs) for up to 10 starsurge while starfall is up. each starsurge cutting 5sec from the cooldown, 5x10=50 sec cut off the cooldown, with CD reducing glyph the cooldown left (without any starsurge) is at 50sec when the buff expires.

Everytime I use this spell, I want to rip my clothes off and writhe around on my laptop. This spell is perfect, so let me roll all of the info I know of up into a general list of why this spell is better than you.

1: THIS SPELL LOOKS AMAZING!11!one!one1!one
I mean really, the stars are sparkly, they hit like *pew*, and they even spiral a bit to their target (that, or I've been drinking too much).

2: These stars hit often, and they hit hard...of course, they ARE stars, so naturally, they would hurt if you had several bombarding you for ten seconds.

3: It lasts ten seconds and hits every 1 second. This means that even on one target, the ability will still hit for 10 stars (at level 75, that's 700 per star). And as stated, this is a buff and doesn't affect a specific target, meaning that if you're aoe'ing and the target you're fighting dies before it's done, it'll still be pewpewpewing on all of the other targets your group is fighting. I think of it as the best DoT on the planet (for AoE, IMO).

4: These stars are a lot smarter than Typhoon (typhy I love you, but you're kinda retarded). They never (NEVER) hit anything that you're not in combat with. So, if nothing has attacked that mob 2 feet away from you, and it's still oblivious to your group's presence, just derping around without a care, Starfall will not touch it (i.e. don't nerf it unless you're only doing it for the 10% damage increase; I say this because since the spell is so smart, I see no reason to decrease its radius, but the choice is yours of course)

In the end, I love this spell so much that I cry myself to sleep because I know I will have to go a whole night without using it. Like Starsurge (and in conjunction with this and this), I use this spell whenever I can, which is usually every 45-50 seconds. I have never felt so happy with the top tier talent as I have with my druid. (Screw Dispersion, Power Word: Barrier, Haunt, Metamorphosis, Chaos Bolt, Tree of Life Form, Berserk, Arcane Power, Living Bomb, Deep Freeze....okay, lock spells are pretty good, and living bomb is nice....) And no, I don't have a thing for casters.

Starfall is the last boomkin talent for a good reason. It adds a lot of dps, even on single target fights, and for AoE, it's just insane (Popping starfall during transition phases on Raggy is nuts).
I really hope Blizzard will make it stop breaking CC through... Cutting 1,5k off my dps on groups in dungeons sucks :/

With 5.0.4 this now resets it's cooldown when you hit a Lunar Eclipse, so there's not reason to sit on it if you have it up. Just use it.

As of MoP, Starfall has once again returned to its formerly buggy state. It will attack any enemies in combat, not simply those in combat with the Druid, but also those in combat with an NPC or another player (including those not in the Druid's party). So be very careful when using this in areas where NPCs are in combat with hostile mobs as it will basically pull the entire 40 yard radius of mobs to you!

Because you can reset the cooldown of this spell by entering Lunar Eclipse you can use this spell three (3) times in short succession:

Before combat use Astral Communion to get to ~75-95 Lunar energy.
Before combat set three Wild Mushrooms at your enemies' feet.
Before combat pre-pot with an intellect potion

Cast Starfall (1) and Wild Mushrooms: Detonate
Cast one Wrath to enter Lunar Eclipse
(activate Chosen of Elune if you chose this talent)
Cast Sunfire followed by Moonfire (maintain DoTs)
as soon as the Starfall(1) expires re-cast Starfall(2)
Cast Starsurge off cooldown and Starfire as a filler toward 0 Lunar Energy
at 0 Energy activate Celestial Alignment
Re-apply Moonfire (Sunfire will automatically also be re-applied) (maintain DoTs)
as soon as Starfall(2) expires, re-cast Starfall(3)
Cast Starsurge off cooldown and Starfire as filler until CA expires, continue to do so until you reach 100 Solar Energy
Re-apply Sunfire (and Moonfire if necessary) and cast Starsurge on cooldown and use Wrath as a filler.
