It has some positive and negative things
positive:
- your HoT's will get a very big bonus to their ticks
- your Swiftmend will also heal a lot higher because it's greatly dependent from +healing and HoT-full-healing
negative:
- you can't cast regrowth (who cares)
- you can't cast HT (very negative side)
- you can't decurse

tho you can always just shift to tree, put HoT, etc on raid/party shift back, but i don't think it'll be that good with all the mana that shifting takes away.

I find it hard to justify taking this talent in live (I don't have beta). The buff to healing from spirit is 25%, which is added to by the talent that buffs your spirit by 20%. So if you have 200 spirit, which transelates to 240 spirit via talents, your +healing comes out to 60. Granted the numbers are nice, its definetly hard to keep up with healing a party or raid without healing touch. Looking at the beta forums, the general concensus seems to be that the whole idea of tree form (if it is even worth taking) relies on the lifebloom spell (which we on live won't be seeing for another month). In light of this, I for one don't see the advantage to having more than one tree in a raid, and consequently won't be specing tree form. It definetly seems more beneficial to come up with some kind of hybrid spec (like resto/balance with lots of mana regen and damage capability) over full resto for a talent that doesn't benefit as much as it could.

While in Tree of Life form, in addition to all the things mentioned above such a Regrowth, Rejuvenation, Rebirth, etc.. you can also cast Tranquility. Even though it's a channeled spell it does, in fact, heal over time.

Also, it should be noted that the group buff that comes from a Druid in the Tree of Life form does stack. You can have a group of five Tree of Life Druids that will constantly be giving each other a massive buff to their healing just by standing around. The amount of additional healing from one Druid might not be spectacular, but when they keep piling up the numbers can get quite high.

I did a Lower Blackrock Spire run with three Tree of Life Druids, myself (Shaman), and a Hunter. It was... neat.

I'm loving this talent. Makes Healing in AV so much more straight forward and so far I haven't been in a single AV where someone has out healed me... (that said, if you see Stanlee, stay close and you'll stay alive!)

Now I just recently had some experience with the buff stacking. A group of 5 would have 125% of each druid's spirit increased to healing. So if you had 300spirit. Looking at 375+ to healing, if I'm not mistaken...

Further thinking... 40man raid group, a group of 5 druids doing the healing all in form. I wouldn't want to be up against the mob that can kill the main tank who has that group of druids healing him.

I thought the exact same thing before I saw 2 fellow Druids spec into it.
- Their heals were great and mana isn't really that difficult to manage seeing as you won't have to heal as much with the HoT's ticking like crazy.
- The group +25% spirit buff applies to ALL heals, not just yours or other Druid's.
- It's also a heck of a lot of fun seeing your target's health drop to almost nothing and being able to help you fellow healers get it's health back up.

I certainly find it odd that you can't cure poisons and curses in the form, but other than that I love it. The lowered manacost is very, very nice, and with Regrowth costing less mana than Healing Touch, you really don't miss it.

Barkskin should be made castable in Tree of Life.

It's hard to determine if this talent will be worth the investment. With the 2.0 WoW client patch hitting the game Tuesday 12/5/2006, it will allow Druids of the 60th level to try this out. Additionally, it would seem that HoT's will stack and there is no limit to this. With the addition of HoT's stacking, it may be a viable talent to invest into (stacking of Rejuvinations along with Regrowths in a raid will be ticking the MT for around 1000 to 2000 every three seconds). That fact will make the healing much more mana efficient since downranking heals is not longer an option (+healing gear has a much lower percent bonus to lower ranking spells).

In the end, I may just flip a coin to see if I go that much into Restoration. Granted, I love healing... that always helps.

Longer spells are more usefull when your MT takes big chunks of damage. For example: Deep Breath. When people were healing people who were tanking something that could deep breath, they were either timing their big heals (G-Heal in later patches or HT) as the boss was casting Deep Breath, if they weren't then they needed a slap or they knew someone else was doing it. Either way, big heals are really useful when you expect a big chunk of damage to come in. Thankfully in TBC they completely removed the obviousness of any big chunks of damage, so priests tend to cancel a hell of a lot of their g-heals at 90% casted and end up casting a flash on someone else because the MT maybe dodged an attack that could've been crushing. But anyways, this means that in smaller groups, the MT is taking less spike damage and therefore less big heals are needed, also priests can fill in any gaps when they are needed, leaving druids to be spamming HoTs to keep the tank constantly topped up saving priests the job of spamming their only HoT (Renew) at a costly amount of mana compared to a druid or spamming a G-Heal to have 50% overheal. Needless to say, a druid is a great addition to any raid, but I wouldn't necessarily like a tree form druid as my only healer in a 5man (they're to stay druid form when in that situation, please). But this hardly matters since the fights in 5mans don't last anywhere near as long and are a lot less mana intensive, meaning the loss of 20% reduced mana usage is less of a deal.

Finally about the mana cost for those who don't know: This is 28% of your *base* mana, meaning 28% of your mana whilst naked. As 70% of your mana comes from items, it really means that this spell is *not* 28% of your mana whilst you're fighting, it's significantly less (10% maybe? depends on the druid.) and hence it is castable in combat.

Actually the range of the aura is quite a bit lower than 45 yards. You can stay on maximum healing distance to your target (up to 40yd) and it wont get the auras buff.

So actually, in WC3 campaigns or melees, the Tree of Life building was a druid after all!

Barkskin can be cast in Tree of Life form, now. Also note that the War Stomp and Shadowmeld racials can be used (although I only witnessed the latter while playing Alliance on the test realm).

If bear/dire bear is like a warrior, cat is like a rougue, and moonkin is like a shaman (sort of, considering its a caster with highish armor), then this form is a preist.

I really think you should take to notice, that this Tree of Life has the ability to use ALL restoration abilities while in its shapeshift form. That means not only HoT spells, but also Healing Touch, no longer will you have to shapeshift into your natural form to cast it. It only says that the HoT spells will get the mana redux though.

WotLK's beta talent tree for druids shows that ToL will be able to cast any Restoration spell: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/druid/talents2.html

It says you can only cast "Restoration and Barkskin spells"
This means yes to HT and Remove Curse, but I'm afraid it won't include Innervate unless they change it.

Also, OoC will have a chance to proc on healing spells. Neat!

the best thing about this new WOTLK tree form is that you don't lose movement speed anymore. correct me if i'm wrong but no one has mentioned this and the tooltip doesn't either. this mean tree form becomes viable for pvp.

I'd like to point out that the latest updates in the Wotlk talent calculator shows a decrease in the ToL auras power. It is reduced from 25% of you spirit to, a 3% static bonus, unaffected by spirit. Also, Imp. ToL will unfortunatly not increase this amount, but reduce the mana cost further by 15% and boost your armor by 100%.

Imho, it only benefits people who dont have top end healing/spirit gear as it doesnt scale with gear, although it has become a raidwide application, which is pretty neat =)

Has anybody else noticed that the tree of life aura is messed up? I was in H UP and noticed that my aura wasn't on anybody (including myself). And even though it kept saying that the buff was there and then fading, it was never included with my buffs.

Through out its life time, tree of life has undergone some major changes
things like on how you cast spells...all hots and direct heals are now castable, cure poison, banish cruse, thorns and mark of the wild are now castable in this form as well.
the movement speed debuff was removed...
And this form now has an armor buff.

Update- As of patch 4.0.1 the tree of life form is no longer an indefinite buff, but rather a temporary 30 25 second buff.
It causes wild growth to hit extra targets, regrowth to be instant casts, time to cast wrath is reduced by 50%, entangling roots are now instant cast and lifebloom can be casted on an unlimited amount of targets.

As of the next patch thorns will not cancel tree of life form, nor will nature's grasp. The thorn change is mostly a "quality of life" improvement. You rarely (if ever) recast thorns unless you're resting and drinking anyhow, and thus it was more an annoyance than anything that it shapeshifted you back to your humanoid form on cast.

On the other hand, the increased armor of this form (240%) and the ability to cast nature's grasp while shifted will be rather useful both in instances and PVP.

Remember not to long ago when *nobody* did PVP as a tree? I think that with the changes that have been made it is very viable.

New to patch notes: In addition, the discount on heal-over-time spells from this talent is now active at all times, whether or not the druid is in Tree of Life form. Even though there's benefits to shapeshifting into tree form and no cons except for the low mana-cost shapeshift, this change will still be useful in situations such as World PvP (like wintergrasp) where you might be constantly mounting and dismounting or if you just don't want to get banished by a warlock. Also great if you want to kite someone in a duel when combined with insect swarm and moonfire in travel form.

Tree of life is getting some possible changes for cataclysm:

Tree of Life is changing from a passive talent to a cooldown-based talent, similar to Metamorphosis. Mechanically, it feels unfair for a druid to have to give up so much offense and utility in order to be just as good at healing as the other classes who are not asked to make that trade. We are exploring the exact benefit the druid gets from Tree of Life. It could strictly be better healing, or it could be that each heal behaves slightly different. You also will not be able to be banished in Tree of Life form (this will probably be true of Metamorphosis as well). Additionally, we would like to update the Tree of Life model so that it feels more exciting when you do decide to go into that form. Our feeling is that druids rarely actually get to show off their armor, so it would be nice to have at least one spec that looked like a night elf or tauren (and soon troll or worgen) for most of the time.

Sucks that druids will be gaining a new model for trees, but with the cost of using it as a cooldown.

Why on earth would they remove the tree of life form, into a CD thingy which some, like me, wil rarely use because i wil save it for emergencies, and than i wil end up with almost not use it at all. Why just do this on tree of life form? Why not on dire bear form so when the freaking tank almost kills the boss the form disappear and he get 1 hitted?

But serious, why not moonkin too?

I agree with Moonslayer. I never get around to using my trinkets that often. If its a situation where I need more healing is because some one is about to die. And if i have to hit another button its to late the guy is dead. I'm not going to put another spell in an emergency rotation just to save mana. But if they do balance out the healing tree to not need the tree form it will be nice in pvp. In pvp the tree form may as well be a big flag saying kill me first.

MY comment, I love being in tree form. The only reason i have a druid is to heal, and i think its sweet to be in Tree Form.
Personally, i will most likely re-roll a different class now. The whole reason there doing it is to nurff the Resto Druids for a currently OP class. Taking away something that make the class unique and more like the other class's takes away the fun of them.

The whole "Giving up healing to do damage works okay. Giving up everything to heal is lame." is a JOKE.

If that were the case no one would want HEAL as a Druid. Even so, would it just not make sense to give Resto Druids a attack that they could use in Tree of Life Form. Cause casting Wraith "Balance attack" will not be fun!
You cannot heal in bear, moonkin, or cat. You can not melee with the right spells in Bear, or moonkin. You cannot taunt or use any tanking abilities in cat or moonkin. And you cannot cats spells in cat or bear.

Saying giving up dpsing for healing is lame. You don’t have to stay in tree in pvp. Buff druid spells and nurf tree armor if your worried about that. If your worried about being out of Tree in raids to dps you have a problem.

In my opinion DON'T take away the from, Nerf it/Change it, DON'T turn it into a Useless Cooldown
How do you Nerf a class without making them overly angry? You say “we want to help you, make the game more fun, though with that your heals may take a bit of a hit”.

aka, when i heal, i'm not looking at my bars for when i can hit my trinkets or cooldowns. I'm looking at the raid for who needs a heal. If i need to look at my bars people die! more or less a passive ability is greater then a press me.

When you roll a druid, you roll it knowing you will be in a Shifted form. That is the lore of a druid. That’s what we are supposed to do. You don't roll a druid thinking, I’m going to stay in human form.

Personally, I think someone at blizzard got their tier 8/9 (heroic) stuff and was upset about not being able to show it off. (Taking into consideration the time frame when this punishably stupid idea came to be). That or someone bet a dev twenty bucks he wouldn't take it away. I picked up broccoli sprounting in BC, and I am retiring with Wrath. I was not around to enjoy "vanilla" WoW, so I never knew anything but all roles have a form. It honestly makes no sense, if I wanted to see my shiny gear, I'd roll a Priest, or play my Shaman/Mage/DK...

Tree form is the one thing about healing I've never been annoyed about. I get a good /lol out of my branches swaying in the invisible wind while I'm feeling like crap on hour 3 of the same boss. Tree form pride launched me into Warcraft RP (forum and in game), and I'll always be called "Tree" by more than one old friend. I'm exceptionally upset by the change, and for a while, it made me want to simply stop playing. I have plenty of other 80's and my Druid will forever stand in my character sheet, proudly sporting her tier 9/10 (or whatever full set I get to by the end of Wrath) at 80.

You're over-reacting on every level in this post. You aren't concerned about the class, you're afraid of change.

You don't know what it's like to play as a Druid yet. You won't have a clear picture until Cataclysm is released. But with statements like "Cause casting Wraith "Balance attack" will not be fun!", you appear to be nit-picking faults as opposed to offering real critiques. There's no suggestions, no genuine concerns, just whining. The "Wraith Balance attack" is an optional bonus, something they're giving to all healers so they can solo quest content easier without needing to Dual-spec (which is especially tough for Resto Druids). Their "heals" taking a "bit of a hit" is nothing but baseless rumor. They're rebalancing every healing class based on new game mechanics. Imagine your tree right now has the same abilities, is able to do more for your party or raid, but doesn't look like a tree. There you are -- that's how they're envisioning the Restoration Druid, with the new Tree of Life form being an additional, VERY USEFUL cooldown.

If you love Druids, you should love them for how they play, not how they look.

I dont think blizzard should change this form into a cooldown, its not broken so why fix it? By taking away the ability to stay in tree form blizzard is sort of taking away the feel of being a druid, the druids special ability is to be able to shapeshift to make themselves better for what that form is used for.

To be honest, I can't see what you people are running about crying for, I'm excited! Finally I get to be able to play a resto druid again. I threw away my resto gear in the Vanilla/TBC transition, when they had the horrifying "Tree of Life" idea. I loved being able to be my little Night Elf and jump around throwing rejuvenation as it pleased me best. I never cared for the Tree, it looked ugly, still does, and was basically add' to add up for everyone else having a form, well to be honest I liked not being in a form. Hmm.. but maybe now, with it as an awesome cooldown I might be more psyched to actually see the bloody Tree Form.

But of course, knowing blizzard, if enough people weep and emo about something being changed it won't. I can just hope, that they'll go through with this whole "New Tree Form Cooldown" thing they've got going.

On another slightly less related topic; Does anyone else remember back when WoW was made by blizzard as they saw fit and not to please every little idiot crying about hogger being too hard to group for?

Personally, I am not in favor of having ToL on cooldown. One, because I personally like being a Tree. I like the fact that I don't have to be just another Nelf flinging spells around. Two, and the reason that makes me a little angry, is that they're singling out just one of the druid specs for a shapeshifting cooldown. If all specs were given the same treatment, I doubt I'd be as aggravated over the proposed change.

Although I must admit I think the "show off armor" reason Blizzard gave is absolute BS, especially since, as others have stated, most druid armor looks absolutely awful.

It has been said before to druids not in favor of the change that they are just "afraid of change and care more about looks then the class" I don't believe this is true.
I do battlegrounds and I'm well aware that shifting into treeform puts a rather large target on my head and it does suck that I can't attack stuff. I would rather have all this then take away our tree form.
I've never come across a situation in a raid (save cycloning CC'd people on lady deathwhisper) where I'm thinking, hey I really wish I could be casting some damaging spells right now. Stop changing everything to accommodate PVPers.
Our healing form made us unique and interesting. It set us apart from all the healers and I prefer it that way. Not everything needs to be the same I think.
The tree of life buff was a reason to keep us around and if you start making everything the same then why not take a holy priest or any other raid healer? Moonkins will keep their buff and they can be the druid buff and battle res, where is the need for a restoration druid going to be?
I think blizzard has been reckless with Trees, not really putting in enough thought before making changes. But I guess this might be just my opinion.
I'm going to punch every complainer in face with my mighty tree fists while I still can. Maybe they'll learn to adapt to what they're given before trying to ruin it for everyone else.

I think there is another reason Blizzard is giving DPS talents to healers now. It will give healers something to do when doing easy content or situations where you don't need to heal much (for example, if you are fighting a raid boss where you need 4 healers during the phases where damage is high, but during the phases where damage is low, you can easily get by with 3 healers).

I know there are healers out there who feel dirty if they help DPS, but I enjoy doing it when everyone is safe. I think Blizz is trying to make it so Healers help DPS when their healing isn't needed, and DPS can heal themselves when raid damage gets too crazy (i.e. Rogue's new Recuperate ability).

Unfortunately in Patch 4.0.1, the Tree of Life spell was massacred and instead made into a "metamorphosis." I like the concept, but I do miss the original Tree of Life. Rest in peace, trees =)

Blizzard will balance the class accordingly outside of ToL, plus druids now have a very nice button to hit for extra healing (Quite a bit more than 15% actually, if you care to look at the 'Enhanced Spells' section). The only nerf is the look, and that obviously matters because we're playing a video game.

it appears like regrowth is now an instant case. the HOT remains, but the initial part is instant. not sure what the other "enhancements" are.

Tree of Life is now a buff, not a passive form. It is a 30 second buff with a 3 minute cooldown, which boosts your healing by 15%, armor by 120%, makes you immune to Polymorph and enhances some of your spells:

Lifebloom: allows an unlimited number of Lifebloom targets.
Wild Growth: allows an extra two targets to receive WG.
Regrowth: instant-cast.
Entangling Roots: instant-cast, damage increased by 200%.
Wrath: cast-time reduced by 50%, damage increased by 30%

Popping Tree of Life and using instant cast regrowth works wonders when things get out of hand in a dungeon/raid. It's basically my new "oh @#$!" button. Nice in battlegrounds too, as I can heal all my buddies to full health in a matter of seconds.

EDIT: Actually, the form now has a /dance animation, consisting of shakin' its wooden butt like the good old days. Still not the same, tho :(

I have stopped healing on my druid now and will spec balance/feral because of ToL changes. It didn't need to be fixed as it wasn't broke. Shapeshifting at will is the whole point of being a druid, and ToL is the reason I rolled druid. Why not keep the Treant-ish ToL form as permanent and make that silly purple version be the powerful cooldown when big heals are needed..? Sounds reasonable to me..

Latest patch made the resto talent Natural Shapeshifter increases the ToL duration by 5/10 secs.
Cooldown of ToL also reduced to 3 min from 5 min.

as a restoration druid, i'm loving the changes except for the new form. it looks like a character that would have popped out a miyazaki movie. that humongous head, wiggling bottocks while casting a spell...

when i first saw it, we were fighting ick and i almost caused a wipe. i just stared at the screen blankly for 3-4 seconds, while all the team was exploding with ick's mines. anyway, noone dead, no harm done.

but as i said i really liked the updates. i like the fact that i can appear with my gear during a normal run and shift into the tree form when it is REALLY needed. and instant cast on regrowth is mind blowingly useful. instant cast 10k heal. add rejuvenation for around 3k heals per sec, with life bloom and others, you literally have hard time seeing the actual fight through the green heal indicators. i think with this update tree form finally became the "tree of life". druid is restricted but in return tree of life form became imba over imba.

or it just better suits my playing habits, thats all. i dont know :)

I love the treant model but I couldn't sacrifice a useful minor glyph spot to hide this ugly thing. Might try balance...

It looks like cata is making resto druids more like all others(...They ruined our Nourish and our Regrowth (first of all, why could they not make nourish the fast one. It was already fast. And regrowth the mana saving one, and kept the HoT as strong and long (hehe strong and long =P) as it used to be)
Only that we got the most mana costing and weakest spells. Dont believe me? check this out:

Cheap - Nourish . . . . 1% more expensive than all others and its BARELY better than Healing Surge IF u got a HoT on the target.
Big - Healing Touch . . . . Actualy this does not cost more than other, but still, not cheaper than any...aaaand its the weakest out of all the big heals.

Paladin
Quick - Flash of Light
Cheap - Holy Light
Big - Divine Light

Sure this is without talents. With talents (if anybody bother to make) we can see the real differences. But all fair and [] with no talents, the druids are worst healers.

Yes we do have HoTs, and Nourish and Healing Touch does refreshes Lifebloom with Empowered Touch but all other healing classes got other heals too so...ye..just forget about the other spells for a sec)

I got an idea for the skins. One for each season.
Night elf should be spring with the skin currently assigned to tauren, after all those are the colors from WC3 buildings. They are the race that are most entwined with nature even living in trees.

Troll should be summer with the leaves in dark green after all the summer rains. Darkspear trolls live in jungles where it rains a lot. Maybe change the wood color as well to resemble a wet tree.

Tauren should be summer their skin colors and the weather in mulgore represent very well the season. The skin currently assigned to trolls should be for tauren.

Worgen should be winter, most wolves live in cold regions. I like the wood skin but the leaves should be on pale colors.

Also I agree with a post above that they should implement a permanent tree of life form and make this form just a cd not a shapeshift. After all how do you explain that during the last 4 years (of game, thousands of lore) tauren and night elves were able to hold their tree of life form indeterminately and all of a sudden they forgot how to do it and just keep it for a couple of seconds.

I find it a little odd that nobody really mentioned the big downfall to this form for Resto druids. Mind you, I still love Druid healing, and I'm not re-rolling or any of that garbage, because I've found my normal ol' caster form perfectly viable to keep groups up. It's rather obvious they finally balanced us well enough to run with other healing classes without the need of a shapeshift form.

There is really just two things about the Tree of Life form that I personally dislike. The first is that, I really never think to use it. A 3 minute cooldown its not very long at all, especially for a 40 second talented duration, but I just never think to use the thing. Not because people would die if I did, because I have perhaps used it a handful of times and it did help, but the more comfortable I get with the changes to restoration, it's just an unnecessary whistle to me that I never use.

The second (and larger issue in my opinion) is the improved Regrowth. Mind you, I rarely use Regrowth as it is, but Tree of Life form makes it 'appear' to be an attractive spell to use. The issue I find with that though, is that it is god-awful expensive. And not even by a little bit, it is currently like 50% more mana intensive than Healing Touch, and heals for less I believe. While talented it crits like crazy and plants a seed, and that likely makes up a good deal of the difference in making it a viable spell, Tree of Life form essentially gives the feel that you need to spam heal your group with it. Lots of healing quickly? Yes. I've saved a group with it once or twice. I've also ran myself out of mana quickly using it as a 'oh crap' button.

Strategically, we always use CD's as emergency buttons, ironically the best strategy in using tree of life form is in the Lifebloom expansion. The least likely time we are going to use lifeblooms is when we need to heal multiple group members of massive damage. It's kind of a contradiction.

In 4.0.6 the new Tree of Life model gains new idle animations and being able to dance :).The idle animations are kinda like its tapping the ground growing herbs then a nourish effect.

As of Cataclysm - 4.06, the tree of life form does the following:
+15% healing done
+120% armor
Polymorph Protection
can be cast on unlimited targets
affects two more targets
is instant cast
is instant cast
has its cast time reduced, (on me - from 2.28 sec to 1.16 sec)

Tree of Life form lasts 25 sec - with talent, lasts 31 sec.

Question for you guys, i've been playing a druid for awhile. Since they've changed tree form... i tend to not use it much because it seems to just drain my mana. I will however use it when it's needed *I.E.* tons of raid damage need to catch up. Is this wrong? my guild seems to think that i should use tree form whenever it is up....

Like Worgen should have a spooky looking tree and Taruen should have one of those trees from the Lion King, ya know?

i gotta say blizzard screwed up when they put this change in
there was nothing wrong with original tree of life as druids didn't need to show off their armor what would be the point of shapeshifting then
simple resolution: keep ToL as a shapeshift, enhance wrath or add a new offensive spell exclusive to ToL, make roots instant cast.
really easy if you think about it
you could have the full ToL shapeshift and be able to defend yourself when the need arises

I have to say, I like the new design of Tree of Life. You look like a mini-ancient that's always roaming the Night Elf areas. I will forever miss the days of unlimited treeing, but the buffs set up on this current design seem to be worth the "short" duration.
