Description

People come from all over Pandaria to learn cooking from the Ironpaw family. We take great pride not only in being the best chefs, but also in passing what we know onto others. That's why we try to charge as little as possible for cooking lessons.

This means, however, that we often find ourselves in shortage of cooking ingredients for the lessons. Would you donate some to the school, to help out students who cannot afford it?

This quest can be completed multiple times per day. It is a major source of Ironpaw Tokens. By extention, it is a major source of Black Pepper, Rice Flour, and 100 Year Soy Sauce. These three items are needed to produce personal high-end food buffs as well as feasts.
Due to the reagent cost of Bundle of Groceries, it does not need to be limited as a daily.

This is simply an (inefficient) way to change one cooking ingredient into another one. You turn in 20 random ones, get a new token, and can then buy a new bag of ingredients you need. These bags contain contain less though, so you lose some materials.

This quest appears on Nam Ironpaw once you have done all or a few of the quests for the cooking specializations and a very short quest called Preserving Freshness.

The easiest I have found so far is the Wildfowl Breasts or Paddlefish, which you only need 20 of each. The marsh in the same zone (new cicero or something) has cranes with 100% drop rate and there are pools of the paddlefish in the zone too. Also a rare named Sele'na spawns by the cranes and will drop bop gear you can't use but it's not hostile and dies pretty easy. But stay away on my server, I called this spot.

Wildfowl Breast's droprate was nerfed in a hotfix on Oct-05 2012

it's now in line with most of the other items available for this quest.

I just turned 120 Golden Carp into 2 bundles thinking It'd just merge them to save bag space..

I should read what it does next time, what a waste.

Btw, as the comment above says, after you've made 5 of every "starter" food, and delivered the quests, Preserving Freshness shows up, once you finish that you can turn in baskets.

It is an incredibly bad method of getting Ironpaw Tokens, because you need a stack of hard-to-get meat or 100 of any vegetable (or a bunch of fish) And then you can trade one token for 25% of what you gave for it. You can deliver infinitely, but not very cost-effective in any way.

Better doing the dailies and skipping this, even if you have 2 stacks of useless meat they are better off on the auction house.

The best way to get these tokens now that Wildfowl Breast has been corrected to the appropriate drop rate is to just fish. Many pools are very close together such as Emperor Salmon and Reef Octopus. If you can also get the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm, then that will boost the fish you catch slightly. It doesn't catch a ton, but it does add up. :)

Edit: The spawn rate of Wyrmhorn Turtle at this particular location was hotfixed October 19th

I found that farming Wyrmhorn Turtle on the eastern side of Pools of Purity in Valley of the Four Winds is a great way to not only farm Raw Turtle Meat but also a great way to get some easy Mote of Harmony.

Since the turtles are part of a quest, the spawn rate is raised dramatically if you're more than 1 person farming them. I usually use my Shadow Priest for this. I find a good spot where I'm in range of a bunch of turtles and then just dot everything up.

As long as I am not alone at the spot the turtles usually re-spawn within 15 seconds. They are level 86 and only have 110k hp. They drop Raw Turtle Meat which you can use for Replenishing the Pantry along with the occasional green items and motes of harmony.

If you're not too badly geared you can also use this spot to earn some easy exp. With rested exp and a guild banner which provides +10% exp I was sitting at roughly 8.8 million exp / hour just by farming this spot. I can't remember the exact amount of meat I got but it was around 800 for a 2 hour farming session. The amount of motes of harmony is roughly 50 per hour depending on how fast you can kill stuff.

I just went on a 1 hour farming session in order to provide the exact amount of items I got. Here is the list.

I'm not a skinner so I can't tell exactly how much leather you would get, but I expect a lot.

I use this macro to speed up turnins. I have one key bound to Interact with NPC and another to this. I hit the first key once, the second key thrice, and that's all it takes to turn in my bundle of groceries!

Level from 85-90 in 4 hours + earn 500 000 gold

NOTE: If you want to level your chars using this method, you need atleast 10 000 gold to invest at start.

In order to level with my method, you will simply have to go to AH, check prices of vegetables/meat (ingredients used for feasts etc.) and buy them if the price is low enough to make profit.

How do we know if price is low enough?
Well let's do a bit of math, for example I was buying a lot of:
- raw turle meat,
- raw tiger steak,
- wildfowl breast,
- mushan ribs
- scallions

as those were cheapest on my server, most of times a stack of those was 20-30g.

You can then turn a stack of those vegetables/meat for a cooking token, with which you can the buy either Black Pepper or 100 Year
Soy Sauce, which sells for a lot more then stack of vegetables/meat.

While turning in you will receive EXP aswell, so this is ideal for leveling an alt, I've leveled 5 characters so far and made arround 2M gold, over last 10 days.

Statistical informations:
As people already calculated it takes aproximately 4131 turnins in order to level up from 85 to 90.
If you use macro above, you can turn in arround 20-30 times per minute, depends how fast are you with clicking or if you have perhaps gaming mouse.
It will roughly take 3h and a half to level up, if you have all mats nearby and you can pretty much spam the macro

If you want to power-level, but you don't have the gold for investment, here are some PRO tips:
- use heilrooms gear for whole lvl 85, until lvl 86, for maximizing EXP gain
- do dungeon quests at lvl 86 and then again ath lvl 87, this will give you loads of EXP and reduce the turn-ins you need to make to level up
- if your char is rested, good idea would be to go kill mobs at Zhu Despair, until you're non-rested again

Should have read up on what this quest gives. If you need a token badly, do it. Otherwise hang on to your mats for leveling cooking. Don't do this until you've leveled cooking to max because it's a lot of mats gone for 1 token. :/

As a hunter I've learned to combine ~~two~~ three things.. Farming leather/motes of Harmony and getting Ironpaw tokens.. plus making a chunk of gold to boot.

The Wyrmhorn Turtles on the eastern side of Pools of Purity in Valley of the Four Winds and time are all you need for this method.. I use the glyph that automatically resets my misdirect if I misdirect to my pet.. Found a macro that misdirects to him with one button push.

So I food buff.. hit my drums of forgotten kings and run around gathering the turtles. I make a complete circuit.. rinse and repeat. Usually by the time I make the circuit the turtles are respawning.. at odd times (usually when I need to heal myself and/or my pet I loot/skin.

You get Motes of Harmony, Greens, raw turtle meat random blues(few and far between) sha-touched leather, exotic leather, prismatic scale... yes, it is a hunter's paradise. Now some say going the bundle of groceries way is ineficent... but I say nay nay. 20 raw turtle will get you 3 to 5 gold each... maybe. But the 100 year soy sauce.. Black Pepper or Rice flour can get you 175 to 300 gold each. I put about 4 each on the AH at a time as to not flood it.

So farming motes, leather, greens, Ironpaw tokens(in a roundabout manner) is the way to go in my humble opinion.. Others will not have the volume that a hunter will, but a dedicated farming run does wonders to your bottom line.

I found this a good way of getting Ironpaw Tokens, especially with the abundance of Emperor Salmon in Valley of the Four Winds.
After 1 hour fishing pools I had over 100 Emperor Salmon, allowing me to trade these in for 5 tokens.

Much better than waiting a full day to do one daily for one token.

Once you have completed the prerequisite quests and Nam has the blue question mark over his head; you make bundles of groceries by buying empty containers of whatever you want to convert from Merchant Cheng (53.0, 52.4) and then right clicking on the item you have just bought to make a bundle of groceries. Then hand in to Nam for a token.

I bought the container for the raw turtle meat. Added 20 to it....and now Nam Ironpaw says "merchant doesn't want that item. Also, there isn't any !Replenishing the Pantry on him either. I am lev 90 with 581 in cooking. I need some good suggestions :)

After the Wildfowl Breast nerf, the best way to earn Ironpaw Tokens is killing turtles at Windward Isle in the Jade Forest for Raw Turtle Meat and turning them in. Farmed them for 8 hours, here's what you can expect to find per hour:

~ 200 to 300 Raw Turtle Meat
~ 100 gold
~ 50 to 100 Mote of Harmony
~ 20 to 30 Gleaming Turtle Shell
~ 20 to 30 random greens from ilvl 377 to 429
~ 15 to 30 Windwool Cloth
~ 3 to 5 random grays
~ 1 or 2 blues around ilvl 433
~ 1 or 2 Ghost Iron Lockbox
~ 1 or 2 random cooking ingredients that can be farmed on your plot at halfhill
Hundreds of Turtle Shell
Some random Pandaria food (200k Health/Mana)

Farming includes killing some Slitherscale mobs that patrol around the island, so their loot table affects what I found.

If you really hate farming the mats for this, I think the most effective method is to simply buy 3 stacks of Golden Carp. A good way on my server to play the AH was to buy this for about 10-20g a stack, put them in bags, use the token for 100 Year Soy Sauce, Black Peppers or Rice Flour for 20g more.

Either way I feel if you don't care about motes, simply fishing/buying fish is the best available way.

Here's my personal opinion on how best to get Ironpaw Tokens. The viable option, for those who love fishing, would be to farm Golden Carp because you are guaranteed to get 1 every time. However, it is soul-destroying and mind-numbing. The way I do it is farm Raw Crocolisk Belly, in Dread Wastes, at the Lake of Stars. The drop rate is very high and the amount of crocolisks is in abundance. Get the empty Raw Crocolisk Belly basket from that Merchant dude in Halfhill. Unlike Golden Carp, you don't need 60 of them to make a bundle of groceries; just 20. So, in short, 20 Raw Crocolisk Belly gets you 1 Ironpaw Token. Also, an added benefit from farming Crocolisk Belly is that, you get so many other drops. You get Dread Amber Shards, Motes of Harmony, numerous Green armour drops and the occassional Blue and Leeser Charms of Good Fortune. Also, there is a rare that spawns on the lake. You can farm him too and try and get the companion. Farming Golden Carp only gives you Golden Carp. Hope that helps guys!

Blizzard should really consider either (1) making the Bundle of Groceries BoA, or (2) making the purchasable baskets not show up in the vendor's inventory until you've completed the necessary quest. If you bundle something on an alt while leveling, figuring you'll be able to turn it in later, only to find out you will never be able to turn it in unless you level EVERY one of the "Ways", (and you've grown as deeply committed to never again leveling more than the 1 or 2 Ways that particular alt needs as many of us are,) you might be a little annoyed. Having a lump in your bag that you don't want to delete because it should be convertible into an Ironpaw Token, but can't be without hours of grinding Cooking skills, truly sucks. Better to be able to send it to a main who has leveled them all so it can actually be used, or to not be able to bundle at all until bundles can actually be turned in. (They've got plenty of other stuff that can't be purchased until a quest or achievement has been finished - think guild rewards, for example - so it's not like it would require much in the way of new programming.)

I love this quest! You can change 20 Jade Lungfish into 25 of whatever veggie you need! Jade Lungfish are super easy to catch in the Jade Forest :)

To unlock this daily quest from Nam Ironpaw, you need to first complete this quest:

So You Want to Be a Chef... from Sungshin Ironpaw beside Nam Ironpaw.

From Ranjid's comment on So You Want to Be a Chef..., the total vendor ingredients required to get your your cooking skill up to 525 are:

Pandaren Peach x 27
Instant Noodles x 6
Needle Mushrooms x 18
Rice x 17
Yak Milk x 20
Silkworm Pupa x 6
Barley x 6
Red Beans x 6
Farm Chicken x 6
Ginseng x 2

These are vendor ingredients obtainable from Sungshin Ironpaw at a total cost of ~180g.

These are ingredients that must be obtained from fishing/farming or the AH:

Golden Carp x 42
Wildfowl Breast x 2

Use these ingredients to get your cooking skill up to 525 (each progressive recipe can be learned from the same quest giver who is also a cooking trainer).

At cooking skill 525, you unlock Ready for Greatness from Sungshin Ironpaw:

Upon completion of Ready for Greatness which allows a cooking skill up to 600, you will unlock Way of the Brew,Way of the Grill, Way of the Oven, Way of the Pot, Way of the Steamer, and Way of the Wok from Sungshin Ironpaw.

The ingredients required to complete these quests are:

Ginseng x1
Raw Tiger Steak x5
Wildfowl Breast x5
Jade Lungfish x5
Giant Mantis Shrimp x5
Juicycrunch Carrot x5

With these ingredients, proceed to the masters chefs Bobo Ironpaw, Kol Ironpaw, Jian Ironpaw, Mei Mei Ironpaw, Yan Ironpaw, and Anthea Ironpaw located in the Halfhill Market nearby and complete the quest.

Accept each chef's subsequent quest which requires you to learn a starting recipe from their training list and complete the quest, you will already have the ingredients required from the previous quest.

Having completed all the chef's tasks will you be able to unlock Preserving Freshness which requires Empty Raw Tiger Steak Container x1 from Merchant Cheng which will finally unlock Replenishing the Pantry from Nam Ironpaw.

If you want to power level your character using Replenishing the Pantry from 85-90 as shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RswFf8AfYTQ then you would require ~2295 Bundle of Groceries, which varies depending on XP buffs and the XP required from 85-90.

For anyone who does NOT want to level all the ways, be advised you can't use the Bundle of Groceries until you have completed the quest
Preserving Freshness . You are able to buy the items from Merchant Chen but Nam Firepaw won't sell you anything.

You cannot just learn and level 1 'way' of cooking and still be able to buy and use the bundles for exchanges. In order to exchange the groceries for the things you need, you first must learn the 1st step recipes of each of the ways.

I see this quest as a great way to get rid of extra mats you won't use (rather than farming or using Ironpaw Tokens to get the mats to turn in). Once I finally figured out how to complete the quest (was a little slow on the uptake there, lol), I used 120 Golden Carp received while fishing for other things, and 20 Jade Lungfish received the same way to create and turn in three bundles.

left over Golden Carp from the Cloud serpent quests invloving fishing are great to turn into a Bundle of Groceries. Same goes for the Anglers Fishing quests Dojani Els & Wolf Piranha. So many boring minutes spent getting teh quest done, might s wel use the leftovers for teh ironpaw tokens for the rare or extra materials for cooking quests
Plus there is always the extra bonus of 19 Gold from doing each of those quests... :)

I've found the Krasarang Wilds ocean a good place. There are only 3 types of fish Reef Octopus, Giant Mantis Shrimp, and Golden Carp. And with high enough skill you'll catch a fish every cast too. Fish the pools to avoid catching Golden Carp, which is annoyingly 60 per token.

Only 3/8 of the fish in Pandaria can be caught in the ocean. Which means less hassle of getting 20 of each, since there are only 2 types.

In order to get Replenishing the Pantry to appear, you'll have to complete a bunch of somewhat easy quests and have 520 Cooking. You'll need to complete So You Want to Be a Chef... and Ready for Greatness first. This will open up the following quests from Sungshin Ironpaw which will all need to be completed:

Way of the Grill
Way of the Wok
Way of the Pot
Way of the Steamer
Way of the Oven
Way of the Brew

The ingredients they require you to gather will be given back to you when you turn in the quest. You will then use these ingredients for the next set of quests. These quests will require you to learn a recipe and then make the item and turn it in:

Strong as a Tiger
Agile as a Tiger
The Soup of Contemplation
The Spirit of Cooking
Endurance
Have a Drink

After finishing all those quests, Nam Ironpaw will then offer Preserving Freshness. Turning that in unlocks Replenishing the Pantry.
