Description

I need to know if you can fight... that you can kill, and live. Eventually, each of you will be called upon for war, and I need to know that you can be counted on.

I mentioned a gift earlier. It lies here, within the Ring of Valor. Step into the arena, right through this door behind me. I will test your skills.

Ji, and any other players that are on the quest will help you defeat the 3 "bosses". The bosses are monsters from the 3 previous expansions. Oggax is a gronn from The Burning Crusade, Gadoon is a hill-lord from Cataclysm, and Frozengore is a magnataur from Wrath of the Lich King.

Walk into the door (it looks like planks going up and down, hung vertically) to enter the instance.

Things don't get started until you walk up and stand next to Ji Firepaw.

You will fight three monsters will not be hard. At one point you will get Agro from Frozengore, just run to the edge and keep running around the edge of the arena until agro goes away. If you are a caster and can do a spell to freeze them, or a hunter with a trap, you can snare him with.

Once the battle is over you will be transported back outside to where Gorrash was standing when he handed you the quest.

Now you get to run back to the building where you first encountered Gorrash to turn in the quest.

Well, that was disappointing. I was at least expecting something neat for a quest called "Hellscream's Gift"!...but just a measly 35c. Sad panda :(

Actually, I didn't even successfully do it. Ji died and then I did just before the last one went down. It still completed though.

I'm not sure where Garrosh got his hands on a gronn or an ettin, but the magnataur is probably one of the ones from the novel Wolfheart. Garrosh kidnapped some children of the magnataur to force them to work for him and attack Ashenvale.

Might be worth noting that you pass regardless of whether you actually kill them all or not. After taking down the Gronn, Ji was then severely weakened by the ettin, and died at the hands of the magnataur, leaving me to fight alone. I almost managed to kill him, but he hit me a little harder than I hit him, and I died. Still got quest credit, though I had a fairly long corpse run from the Valley of Wisdom.

If Ji dies, you fail the quest, even if you manage to kill all the monsters. I couldn't seem to heal him (I'm a priest) sooo I guess it's a race to kill the mobs before they kill Ji.

If Ji does die, just run back in there and everything resets.

Interestingly enough, when they updated Ring of Valor to be the Brawler's Guild arena, many like myself were worried that they would bug this encounter. Turns out, they made a few cool changes.

While it does seem weird at first that Ji's in the center ring all by himself, once the encounter is ready, all Pandaren get ported into the center alongside him to fight in the ring, similar to a Brawler's Gulid queue. Meanwhile, the Ettin stands on a raised pillar outside the ring and pelts attackers with boulders while you down the Gronn. Once he's down, the Ettin comes to take his stand; meanwhile, the Magnataur tralalalas around the perimeter of the ring, charging anyone he fixates in his path.

Pretty cool aesthetic upgrade, if you ask me.

I was reading the comments here because the event didn't seem to be starting anytime soon, and while I was here I heard Garrosh talking. It seems all you have to do is wait for a little and the event will start on it's own!

As for the fight, it's easy really. I managed to keep Ji alive after the surprise start with Windwalker's monk stun. You need to kill the big guy first, then the second will come from outside the arena were he previously threw stuff at you and lastly the mob that keeps running around the room. I suppose you could change the kill order (Killing the running mob first and the big guy last). Only notable abilities are Frozengore's Fixate where you have to run away from him, if you chose a monk then roll is your friend.

Key points (some consolidated from others' comments and some new):

If you switched to Wowhead to lookup why the fight hasn't started yet, switch back now and make sure you're not in combat. Make sure your sound is on or that you can otherwise tell when the encounter starts before coming back to Wowhead. As others have noted you just have to wait for a while (up to 3-4 minutes) for it to start. From what I saw combat will automatically begin whether you're there or not.
The 3 "bosses" are level 10 Elites with a few thousand health each. Ji Firepaw appears to be level 10 too. Since your toon is probably around level 12 after the Wandering Isle quest chain you should be able to do this with just Ji, but it may be your first real challenge on this toon. If you're not confident you might want to wait to go in at the same time as others and fight together.
Before you go in you might want to upgrade your gear, either from the gold you picked up so far (~1 gold should buy you the best usable vendor armor/weapon at this point) or from mailed help from your alts or guildies. A strong gear advantage should help.
Healers, don't waste time trying to heal Ji (it won't work), fight alongside him instead. Hellscream's Horde doesn't need weaklings (who need others to heal them). By the time I figured out that I was doing the healing right but nothing was happening, Ji was almost dead and mid-way through the second boss.
If Ji dies don't panic. After I killed the third boss he popped back to life and I got full credit for the quest.
Healers, don't forget to heal yourself. As a Mistweaver, when I was hit for about 1/3 of my health I switched to Stance of the Wise Serpent, self-cast Soothing Mist, returned to Stance of the Fierce Tiger, and resumed attacking the boss.

Some RP or flavor oriented thoughts:

If you listen to Ji's chatter leading up to this it's clear he's having some doubts. But he sticks with his choice, that's why he's For the Horde! It doesn't have anything to do with his predilections for blowing stuff up first and trying to think of a reason later...
As a cute, cuddly, Zen, humanoid Panda you too might have some misgivings about this Hellscream's Horde to which you've pledged your life. Do you:
1. Follow Ji and commit to Huojin Pandaren (throwing good ~~money~~effort after bad).
2. Decide you're a naughty Pandaren who loves Garrosh Hellscream and will follow him anywhere (shh, don't anyone mention the Siege of Orgrimmar). Or follow the Darkspear Rebellion instead.
3. /facepalm realizing what you've done and /reroll a Tushui Pandaren so you can be with the other cute-things.
4. Come up with a more interesting backstory.
5. Laugh heartily at all this RP stuff and admit it: since they wouldn't put the Worgen in the Horde it's the only way to have fur in your natural form and be in the Horde.
If you're not in the Brawler's Guild (from another toon) then take any remaining time before the combat starts and look around (although it's empty now). It's going to be a long time before this toon can come back on their own and few others get the chance to see the Brawler's Guild so early.
