Doesn't seem to be a direct way to get back to Ironforge from the airfield. Take the flying machine back to Gol'Bolar Quarry and grab the flight path from there to IF (you're given the IF flight path automatically).

The following conversation starts when you complete the quest.

Moira Thaurissan says: How dare you storm into my throne room and attempt to spread this conspiratorial nonsense!
Moira Thaurissan says: I will not let you and this treasonous Commander Stonebreaker steal my son's birthright!
Muradin Bronzebeard says: That is quite an accusation, Moira. It's hardly your throne room in the first place.
Muradin Bronzebeard says: I know Commander Stonebreaker and I will vouch for his loyalty and his honesty. We must take his word.
Muradin Bronzebeard says: What cause do the Dark Irons have for taking up arms against Ironforge? Are you unable to control your own people, Moira?
Falstad Wildhammer says: Muradin has a point. If you cannot govern your own people, you have no place at this table.
Moira Thaurissan says: Both of you know I would never order such a thing! Why would I set one half my son's inheritance against the other?
Moira Thaurissan says: No, this is the work of a traitor to both our peoples. Despite my best efforts, some Dark Irons remain in the grip of Twilight's Hammer.
Moira Thaurissan says: The cult must have someone in the city to coordinate this kind of attack. That only leaves one suspect, Ambassador Slaghammer!

Which leads to the next quest: Seize the Ambassador, to arrest Ambassador Slaghammer and bring him to the High Seat

Ugh...

Their is a flight path at the start of the airfield that goes only to Gol'Bolar Quarry, but it is not the normal Gryphon taxi service and it is not marked on the map as a flight point. Its a ride, like getting into a vehicle, so you need the quest to use it I think.

When back at Gol'Bolar Quarry, take the regular Gryphon Taxi service to Ironforge.

I tried this, but because I was not on the original quest to report to the airfield I could not use the taxi back to the quarry. My only option to quickly get to Ironforge was to hearth out to the nearest inn where a flightpath was waiting.

Honestly, everything was well organized and directed up to this point, and it seems that being at an airfield there should be an easy to find and use flightpath to other locations.

If you log out and log back in you can use the taxi that you road up on.

Fly from the machine you flew from Gol'Bolar from the Ironforge Airfield back to Gol'Bolar then fly to Ironforge to the High Seat.

Fun fact: Notice how Falstad mentioned that Moira "does not have a place at this table", even though there is no table in the room. This was most likely because in beta, the three dwarves were at a table, and Blizzard most likely forgot to change it.

The easiest way to get to Ironforge from the Airfield is by taking the flying machine back to Gol'Bolar Quarry then take a gryphon from Gol'Bolar Quarry to Ironforge.

True dwarves skip the gnomish flying contraptions, run straight past them, climb on top of the mountain and back down the other side. I saw a rabbit and a VERY angry looking dwarf atop that mountain. Probably the suckiest job in Ironforge.

Never leveled around this area before so I had some trouble with the quest, at first.
As stated in the comments before, you get back by taking Rixa's Flying Machine, which is North West of Commander Stonebreaker.
The exact location of Rixa's Flying Machine is at (76, 17).

Description

So just how did all those Dark Iron warriors end up here, on the doorstep of Ironforge, on the verge of invading our city?

Does not 'Empress' Moira, a member of our esteemed Council of Three Hammers, rule the Dark Iron? This cannot have happened without her knowledge and consent. This was no ragtag band of rebel dwarves, but a well-organized and fully equipped invasion force.

I have prepared a report on the battle for the airfield. Take it to Ironforge, to the High Seat and confront her!
