...Interesting, I was filling in EPL towers and suddenly got a kill credit for this quest by taking the Plaguewood tower...

And a kill credit at Northpass Tower... I have screenshots, but they require the UI Text, and that's not allowed around here.

Horde seems to have it easy these days. With Alliance, you have to get the kill in the Icecrown zone...

I did not see it mentioned, so here's something for the people on normal servers: this quest will flag you for pvp immediately untill the quest is done or abandoned (with the 5 minute cooldown offcourse).

Your comment is a bit vague, what no longer works, the venture bay / other pvp area kills, the winterspring kills, outside of icecrown kills, or do you mean the quest is completely broken :P (which it's not)

Not sure when this changed, but it no longer flags you for pvp. I play on a pve server and usually don't pick up this quest, but I guess I picked it up by accident today. I just looked in my log and there it is, but I've been unflagged this whole time.

I have had this quest in My log for long time. Yesterday I tried to play at Wintergasp first time ever, but due the huge lag, I decided to HS to Dalaran and fligth to Argent Tournament area, during the flight, I recieved several credits for killing alliance-players.

I love going to argent tournament, fooling allies into dueling me on top of a tall pole, then casting flame shock and thunderstorming them off. It's just hilarious to punt a gnome 300 feet away to its death! (Killing players in the argent tournament grounds DOES count for this achievement, and it's a foolproof way of getting kills with no danger!)

That's off course assuming you're not dueling someone else with a pushback =) happy hunting!

P.S. If you want to try this method, the poles are on top of the finished coliseum. Make sure that you hit the ally with some spell that's instant cast (to make sure they die on landing) and thunderstorm/typhoon/kick (lol). Okay I admit kick doesn't work for this purpose but it SHOULD!

does anyone know if there is a limit on how many times you can kill one player? i tried killing my alli mage on my horde pally and only got two credits.. after that it wouldnt give me credit for the kills and they were both in icecrown at the time.

Definately one of the less well thought out quests. I've had it in my log forever, up to 11 kills, but never once completed it. A better incarnation would be to kill 15 NPCs or players aboard the opposing airship, a skirmish that would later culminate in the airship battle in ICC.

The only way I can see you getting any kills at all on a PvE server is flagging yourself, getting on with your questing or whatever in icecrown and waiting for alliance to come to you.

I managed to do this on a PVE server after Cata came out on my prot warrior. I'm a lousy PVPer and my character was killed by other players way more than 15 times. Doing this quest tested my patience but I'm a bit of a completist, so I stuck with it.

I initially picked the quest up at the time I was doing the rest of the quests in Icecrown, roughly in July 2010. However, I did not seriously pursue the quest until I hit level 85 in February 2011 (I do not level quickly). Here is how I did it.

First, I didn't abandon the quest.

My basic strategy was simple: hang out on the Alliance gunboat, the Skybreaker, and kill npcs until ally players attacked me. More often than not, no allies responded at all except possibly to watch. Even when they did, they often killed me, especially if they were fellow 85s. However, occasionally a level 80 ally (or less) would attack me, and usually I could kill them. (The fact that I couldn't always get to them is a testament to my incompetence in PVP and the lousiness of my gear for much of the time.) Today, a 77 dwarf priest attacked me and I was able to kill him four times (thus bringing the total to 15 and confirming that my character is a bully), so there does not appear to be a cap on kills any more; at least, if there is, the cap is at least four.

Most of the npcs on the Skybreaker did not attack me even when I stood next to them. In any case, there are no npcs on the Skybreaker that should pose a serious problem to a level 85. However, there are certain aspects of the fights on the boat that can cause problems if an ally player decides to attack you.

The skybreaker marines throw a net on you which immobilizes you for a few seconds. This is infuriating when fighting ranged classes. For this reason, take out the marines quickly.

Knight-Captain Drosche on the top deck does not hit hard, but has a fair number of hit points, leading to an incredibly boring fight. Ranged ally players will attack from the stairs and then run away; if you pursue, you may end up with more npcs than you can handle.

In particular, Thassarian, stationed to the left and below Drosche, does significant damage which can take you out if you're distracted by Drosche's tedious attacks or an irritating player. Indeed, Thassarian is the only fight on the boat that is remotely interesting. I suggest you fight him under the stairs in case a ranged ally attacks you from Drosche's deck.

14 of my 15 player kills were obtained in the above way. None of the players concerned was above level 80, but only one of those 14 kills was obtained by attacking a player who was already flagged; in short, they chose to attack me, for reasons unknown to me. (Irritation, stupidity, alcohol, honor...)

I made myself a tempting target by holding back while fighting Thassarian or Drosche. At least two of the kills were obtained in this way. Also, if at all possible, I made sure to kill them again when they come back for their corpse. (The more savvy ones resurrected far away from me and immediately mounted up. Those missed opportunities were most upsetting.) If they were afk and flagged, thinking perhaps that the Skybreaker is a safe haven, I gently remind them that this assumption is incorrect by one-shotting them.

In the unlikely event that an ally was attacking our gunboat, I flew over to our boat to defend it. That was how I obtained the remaining kill and was the only time I killed another 85 in this whole sorry saga.

I've done it once; never again... my poor warrior spent most nights on a flying mount in Icecrown rather than a nice bed in Dalaran. I did experiment with other places in Icecrown, but the gunships were really the only places that seemed to work for me.

You have to kill opposing alliance players, not npcs. The reason that I suggested killing npcs is as follows:
1) You are flagged (this is largely irrelevant on pvp servers).
2) To let ally players know where you are and that you are killing their npcs. Some of them take exception to this and will attack you.
3) The npcs that I suggested you kill in my previous post are quest givers and are near other quest givers. Therefore ally players are relatively likely to show up to hand in or pick up quests.

Note that these are suggestions. In principle, you can complete this quest without ever going near the Skybreaker or any other alliance npcs in Icecrown. However, on a PVE server, this is quite difficult to do; you almost have to put yourself in a situation where ally players want to kill you.

If you are actually killing players but not getting credit, it might be because you are in a raid group. I don't think that that should be the case since most PVP quests don't have that kind of restriction but maybe it is now for this particular quest.
