Uh... from the look of the screenshot that would explain why I got errors saying "You are mounted." Get off your mount, because this event didn't occur for me, because I think that may be why. You likely will be flying to him and have little reason to dismount. So just a heads up. /bugged it.

After completing this quest, Bridenbrad's Possessions spawns and gives you the followup, Light Within the Darkness.

It's an amazing questchain given by Highlord Tirion Fordring after unlocking Crusader's Pinnacle. Nothing special about it other than it touches on Lore real nicely. A selfess Argent Soldier named Crusader Bridenbrad contracted the Plague of Undeath and will become a Servant of Arthas shortly.

Tirion Fordring orders you to ask the aid of the most pure and powerful beings of Life and Light. The Grove-Keeper Remulos,the Dragon Aspect Alexstrasza the Life-Binder and the Naaru A'dal.

Each give their boon to help save Bridenbrad. All however end up purifying Bridenbrad,but not cleansing him of the Plague. Sadly he dies,but A'dal shows up and promises he'll live "Not a soldier of Undeath,but dwell in Paradise for the light takes care of their own".

When you finish this quest A'dal says, "Fear not, young one, for this crusader shall not taste death." which makes this quest a reference to when God took Elijah up to Heaven (because of his faith) instead of putting him through death (death being a result of sin, death being comparable to the plague here).

I think this is the first quest chain I've ever done that made me honestly sad at the end of it. Such an ending definitely made worthwhile all the running back and forth I had to do for it.

When you finish it, M'ori, K'uri & A'dal spawn and the Spirit of Bridenbad flies up and then disappears.

A'dal says: Fear not, young one, for this crusader shall not taste death.
A'dal says: In life, Bridenbrad was the bearer of great deeds. Now, in passing, he shall taste only paradise.
A'dal says: The light does not abandon its champions.

Very touching and epic Questline. Good job Blizzard, once again :D

This questchain made me sad because I have a normal flying mount, wich makes the flying from crusades pinnacle to Crusader Bridenbrad a pain.
Or.. infact all the flying/running and all that.
Thou easily worth it considering the reward.

I started out with thinking this was another boring erand quest and I grumpled all the way to him and back, but after proceeding further and further into the chain quest I started to get interested to see how it would end... Now I'm sitting here and feeling sad because of the ending.

Make a second chain quest with him Blizzard! Do it nauw!

The reason I enjoyed this questline so much was definatly A'dal's involvement. I was expecting him to be written off and just to serve as a reading lamp for Khadgar now that the BC is old news. The fact that Blizz still plans on involving their old NPC's in new content makes me happy.

I find it troubling, from a narrative perspective, that the Paladin you're attempting to save gets lifted up into a "paradise forever" at his death. To me, I felt that it cheapened the efforts you took to save him. Why extend his life here in the painful, frigid wasteland of Arthas' home with extraordinary, painful treatments that the greatest NPCs in the Warcraft Universe readily admit won't save him when there's a magical afterlife available to him as soon as he dies? It seems outright unethical, especially considering that the Paladin himself explicitly instructed you to leave him, so as to not contaminate your friends with the Plague.

This is a questline well worth the while! Even though I played undead (unable to feel) I couldn't help but to shed a tear. It's not a gathering quest and it's not another scoop-up-the-poo quest. Enjoy the easyness and enjoy your rewards! :)

I think its really awesome that the Azerothian paladin orders not only knows of, but also respects their knowledge and power.

Of Blood and Honor was an great book, and even more so for people into Pally lore. I say this as its Tirion who directs you to A'Dal. It would great to be able to read a story of if and when Tirion ever met the Naruu. It could be easily recon'd for him never being mentioned in TBC, to just tell the Shatar and Sons of Lothar not to say anything about him.

This is a great questline especially because of the many Christian elements it has. Its no secret Paladins and the Light loosely represent Christianity (the Cathedral in Stormwind, the Biblical diction of followers of the Light, etc.). In this questline, we see the true strength of the holy Paladins - their altruism and their willingness to lay down their lives for others.
The naaru represent God. We see this in A'dal's opening statement of omniscience:

"I know of Crusader Bridenbrad, and of your travels in hope of saving him"

And his last words before he sends you:

"Know that I remain with you."

It was a nice touch to see 3 naaru appear at the crusader's death (Trinity; father, son, and holy spirit). He is then taken up into Heaven/paradise. This man was deserving of paradise because he was so selfless. Uther the Lightbringer and Crusader Bridenbrad are not held in high esteem for their technical combat skills, but for their unwavering faith and rock solid fortitude in the face of defeat.

My favorite questline thus far.

As a side note (to expand on the Christianity / Light comparison) we see that the Naaru that the Blood Elves had originally captured, M'uru, allowed the blood elves to capture him (eventually leading to his demise) by his own free will. He did this so that the blood elves might be redeemed. Compare this to the words of Jesus who also died with redemptive purpose:

"No one takes my life from me. I give my life of my own free will"

For those that didn't know, this quest line was a dedication to a one Brad Bridenbecker, brother to Rob Bridenbecker VP of Online Technologies. Brad had suffered from cancer and was an avid WoW player. His brother requested some memorial be set up for his brother and Chris Metzen, along with others, thought up this quest line to immortalize his battle with cancer within our beloved fantasy realm.

Hats off to you, Blizzard, Chris Metzen, and the whole Bridenbecker family. As a childhood cancer survivor myself, you have my utmost respect and loyalty to your honor and vision. You've truly epitomized the struggle of one going through the sickness, the battle, in the most accurate way possible, and bring honor to all of us who have suffered, and have watched those who have suffered, the same battle.

Hands down this was the best quest line I did in the game, and special in the regard it fits a Holy Paladins' role the most (self-sacrificial healing).

It was written so well, that despite knowing Crusader Bridenbrad will die, in the end you know he left for a better place with the God(s). It'll give a lump in the throat of any soul with a conscience. Played it with a theme from another game (Eve - UI_AUDIO_AMBIENT005) that made it truly feel epic and serene.

Only wish Blizzard will make more such quest lines where it's not just about gear and gold, but something good for the soul, too.

The quest chain in itself also gives insight as to exactly how devastating the Scourge's plague actually is. Some of the most utterly powerful beings in the lore have tried, and now failed, to counter it. The only thing that does seem abit off to me is that it was the Narru, not Alextrasa, that was ultimately able to cure it.

Replace certain portions of the quote with real-world names & places and you will find that portions of this text are taken almost verbatim from MANY MANY citations for the Congressional Medal of Honor awarded to United States Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines & Coast-Guardsmen since 1861.

The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Generally presented to its recipient by the President of the United States of America in the name of Congress.

Please note that the majority of the CMOH recipients were given this award posthumously. For those who don't have a dictionary handy this means most recipients died in action in the performance of these acts which warranted the Medal.

Crusader Bridenbrad was in the Broken Front aiding the attack against the scourge when the undead army came down upon them. The many men of that allied force scattered, but Bridenbrad alone returned and dragged more than a dozen men to safety, one by one through the carnage.

Citation:For gallantry and intrepidity at risk of life above and beyond the call of duty. On 30 January 1944, at 3 p.m., near Carano, Italy, Pfc. Hawks braved an enemy counterattack in order to rescue 2 wounded men who, unable to move, were Iying in an exposed position within 30 yards of the enemy. Two riflemen, attempting the rescue, had been forced to return to their fighting holes by extremely severe enemy machinegun fire, after crawling only 10 yards toward the casualties.

An aid man, whom the enemy could plainly identify as such, had been critically wounded in a similar attempt. Pfc. Hawks, nevertheless, crawled 50 yards through a veritable hail of machinegun bullets and flying mortar fragments to a small ditch, administered first aid to his fellow aid man who had sought cover therein, and continued toward the 2 wounded men 50 yards distant. An enemy machinegun bullet penetrated his helmet, knocking it from his head, momentarily stunning him. Thirteen bullets passed through his helmet as it lay on the ground within 6 inches of his body. Pfc. Hawks, crawled to the casualties, administered first aid to the more seriously wounded man and dragged him to a covered position 25 yards distant.

Despite continuous automatic fire from positions only 30 yards away and shells which exploded within 25 yards, Pfc. Hawks returned to the second man and administered first aid to him. As he raised himself to obtain bandages from his medical kit his right hip was shattered by a burst of machinegun fire and a second burst splintered his left forearm. Displaying dogged determination and extreme self-control, Pfc. Hawks, despite severe pain and his dangling left arm, completed the task of bandaging the remaining casualty and with superhuman effort dragged him to the same depression to which he had brought the first man. Finding insufficient cover for 3 men at this point, Pfc. Hawks crawled 75 yards in an effort to regain his company, reaching the ditch in which his fellow aid man was lying.
Lloyd Hawks stayed in the U.S. Army and advanced to the rank of Sergent First Class and was KIA on October 26, 1953 still in the service of his nation in the Korean War, at the age of 42.

Award of Silver Star
Kurtz, Raymond H.
Technician Fifth Grade, U.S. Army
Medical Department, 49th Armored Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division
Date of Action: March 5, 1945
Silver Star Medal Citation:
The Silver Star is presented to Raymond H. Kurtz, Technician Fifth Grade, U.S. Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 49th Armored Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division, in Germany on 5 March 1945. Corporal Kurtz, carried out his duties in the face of heavy machine gun and mortar fire despite serious wounds which he sustained.

With a compound fracture of one leg, he crawled under fire to the assistance of three wounded men. He dragged another man to safety from a position exposed to small arms fire. His own strength failing, he then dragged himself to a house where he continued to give aid to other wounded men until he lost consciousness. In carrying out his missions of mercy, Corporal Kurtz displayed gallantry that was beyond the call of duty.
Corporal Kurtz survived his wounds and if he hasn't died of old age or other less natural causes would be 82-86 years old this year

Award of Silver Star
Emerson, George M.
Private First Class, U.S. Army
Medical Detachment, 58th Armored Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division
Date of Action: March 30 & April 4, 1945
Silver Star Medal Citation:
The Silver Star is presented to George M. Emerson, Private First Class, U.S. Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 58th Armored Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division, in Germany on 30 March 1945 and 4 April 1945.

When an infantry company, attacking an enemy city, called for medical aid, Private Emerson volunteered. He crossed open terrain under intense sniper fire, without regard for his own safety, to attend to the wounded in the attacking company.

Later when three platoons were attacking another town, Private Emerson advanced without regard for his own safety, running and crawling under intense fire for four hundred yards across open terrain. Although enemy rifle fire barely cleared him, he rendered aid to a wounded soldier.

While so doing he was himself wounded. Disregarding his own injury he dragged the wounded man back across the open terrain to safety. His actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces and reflect great credit on himself and the service.
PFC Emerson also survived his wounds and if he hasn't died of old age or other less natural causes would also be 82-86 years old this year.

Award of Silver Star - Posthumous
Orr, James E.
Private, U.S. Army
Medical Detachment, 7th Armored Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division
Date of Action: January 25, 1945
Silver Star Medal Citation:
The Silver Star is presented to James E. Orr, Private, U.S. Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 7th Armored Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division, in Germany on 25 January 1945.

While serving as company aid man Private Orr received an injury which resulted in traumatic amputation of his left leg. Despite the intense pain of his injury and with utter disregard for his own safety he continued to render first aid to the wounded until he himself collapsed. Private Orr died as a result of his wound.

His display of courage and supreme devotion to duty served as an inspiration to the other men and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Military Forces of the United States.

This is a really cool quest chain, and the way things worked out for me, I ended up not doing this quest until I was almost 80. I dinged when I turned in the final quest to Tirion!

;_; This one made me sad. Very touching story though, just like the poem that was derived from Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep that was dedicated to a player that lost her battle from leukimia. Also, when Daddy Saurfang carried his son's body away in ICC kinda made all boohoo. I know sensitive me! XD

As an atheist, I must say I really look forward to doing this quest line every time I level a new character into the late 70s. One thing that atheists who are bothered by the Christian references in the religion of the Light (the Cathedral of Light, paladins, crusades, biblical references and so forth) should remember is that Blizz does examine both the positive and negative aspects of religion from a neutral point of view. While extolling the virtues of someone like Bridenbrad who gave his life in service to the Light, Blizz also examines the dangers and evils of religious fundamentalism, as witness factions like the Scarlet Crusade and Scarlet Onslaught.

Also note that Blizz has very cleverly created a quasi-religious backdrop to the WoW universe, in the form of "the Light" and "the Shadow" designed such that members of almost any mainstream religion can identify with it. As an example, next time you're at a graveyard in-game, look at the grave markers. They're not crosses - they're a vertical bar bisecting a horizontally split circle, which can embody symbolism from a number of religions. You could identify with elements of the religion of the Light regardless of whether you are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu or even Buddhist. A very astute move on Blizzard's part.

We atheists, like it or lump it, have to accept that for the present time, the majority of the world's population subscribes to some belief in a mystical higher power. Evangelising atheism, no matter how noble the intent, puts us on the same level as the religious zealots we so dearly want to defeat. You cannot defeat that which you most despise by becoming it - something that this quest line and indeed the whole Lich King saga is actually all about. If science and reason have merit, then in the end they will prevail of themselves. It probably won't happen in our lifetimes, but then religion didn't happen in a lifetime either. Evangelising the cause isn't going to make it happen any faster.

So just chill, sit back and enjoy the story behind the quest chain. I think it's one of the best quest lines in WoW, and I look forward to playing it through with each new character I get this far.

Whilst many agree that Blizzard needs to implement (many) more of these, I feel that the power of this quest in being able to touch people's hearts lies in its uniqueness.
Even though it's just pixels and lines of code (with reference to the real life story of course, but many are not aware of this).

This quest is showing you how "failer" those powerful beings can be :) Actually, I don't know if its a Blizzard mistake or what, but YOU CAN SAVE PEOPLE FROM THE DEATH.
Darkrider Arly shows you how in Putting Olakin Back Together Again.
On that quest line, you have to kill some Abominations in order to "recover" the remains of Crusader Olakin Sainrith, who was dismembered battling against the Scourge. Apparently the Scourge has used their "parts" to create some Abominations :) But you are requested to recover those "parts" and "put them back together" in order to bring life once again to this guy.
I wonder why A'dal, Alexstrasza and Keeper Remulos fail at the time of saving
Crusader Bridenbrad.

Anyway, it's a beautiful quest line rich on Lore, the GOOD lore, which I love. But come on... Crusader Olakin Sainrith is alive, but Bridenbrad is still dead! That's so Unfair! :'(

When doing this line on a Death Knight (the first character I happened to go through Icecrown with), I couldn't help but feel that A'dal was mocking me, in a way. Telling me that Bridenbrad's valor had "sparked remarkable selflessness" in me, and that he would not endure the corruption of undeath, then going on to say that the light does not abandon its champions...all classes get the same quest text, but it feels exceptionally cruel to a Death Knight.
