"Let the Fires Come!"

The Costumed Orphan Matron wants you to help put out all the village fires after the Headless Horseman lights them. When they are out, speak again to the Costumed Orphan Matron.

You must help us! The Headless Horseman will attack the village at any moment! Fires will be everywhere! The children aren't safe!

Please, <name>, will you face the fires of the Headless Horseman? When he comes, you must join the fire brigade. Grab a bucket and toss it on the fires, or pass it to a friend who's closer to the blaze. If you put out all the fires then we may yet be saved!

It is about the fires IN the town, not the target dummies.You simply click on the big bucket of water and get a smaller one and throw it on the fires in the city.

anyone know how many buckets you have to thrown for the fires to go out? i cant seem to complete the quest...

Yes you have to throw the water on the flames in the city not outside.. just keep doing it until all the flames is gone.

This is a seasonal quest only available during Hallow's End.

Right, basically, you need to put out all the flames. The flames come in three or four different "sizes" The smallest ones are easily doused, while the largest ones take several buckets and shoot sparks out that relight fires all around them. If you leave a fire unattended, it will grow, and begin to spread. You will need many people to help you, so get your guild together or ask in the local chat if anyone wants to do it with you. Anyone nearby can do it at the same time, without being in a party or anything.

When you are close to completing the task, the horseman will ride above and shoot flames at everyone participating, but they don't deal a lot of damage.

Once completed, he shouts something about his fires being put out, and your quest has been completed. Congratulations!

You earn an achievement for doing this called "The savior of Hallow's End".

Oh, a quick tip: If you throw the bucket at someone else, they receive it and can throw it on the flames. Just aim directly at them and if it isn't working, perhaps they already have one? Making chains is a good way of completing this fast, though two or three people per chain is plenty.

In order to refresh the event, (make the horseman come back) simply abandon the quest and accept it again from the quest-giver. Accepting the quest will start the event unless it is already in motion (or just finished).

When the fires are put out, the horseman lands in whatever village you are in. Killing him is very easy, and he gives you a clue about how to kill him in the Scarlet Monastery. His head bounces off and lands a bit away from him. From the head you get this quest.
Also, the first time you complete this quest, you can get The quest to kill the Headless Horseman in SM-graveyard.

Only a few facts to take into consideration:

1) Fires, as it has said before, have 4-5 levels of size.
2) There are several spots for fire to appear. They are static (always the same spots).
3) The most important: fires of the MAX level tends to EXPAND THEMSELVES to the nearest spots that are empty of fire.

So, the basics is simple: One person (or more) need to focus on the BIG ONES (to prevent them to expand) and the other need to focus on the <4 level fire. This way, first, u smother the fires, and then, u prevent them from revive.

So, if u see a spot that is free of fire, and the one right next to it is level 5, throw a bucket to that spot, or else, it will pass the fire to the other spot!

For the love of God, please either know what the term bucket brigade means, or go here:

You'd be amazed how many times we had enough people to win this, but they insisted on running back and forth themselves and not working together.

The best luck I've had at getting bucket brigades started is to be the start. Throw into the same 1 or 2 spots and tell people to stand in the splashes to catch buckets. In Razor Hill they kind of need someone to stand between them and the building...but if you don't have one the 2nd person can at least just keep running to the same spot to catch.

Some tips:

1. Eat pumpkin to get stackable speed buff, I got it to 12% speed inc for 2 minutes.
2. Use the magic broom (no cast time) to move around
3. Aim carefully and put out the big one first

Ok, this is a very easy quest but also very easy to fail. The trick is which fires you put out first. The fire seems to be affected by gravity, so fire on the roof will grow and when it is large will 'drip' down to the middle of the building, which in turn will grow large and set the bottom section ablaze. Hence, putting out the fires on the roof first will mean the ones in the middle of the buildings won't be added to (from the roof fires) and the quest will be easily completed.

You can't solo the quest though, you will need at least four other players to help you. The fire grows too fast to get through it in the time for just one person.

i solo'd it near the BE start town. trick was to put out the far-away building's fires as fast as humanly possible. had to try it 3 times to get it.

if you can get that fire out fast, then the close building is easy. no broom mount or anything.

sucked tho. not even remotely fun. wont do it again.

You can make a chain of people and throw the buckets from one player to another. This is the most efficient way to dose the fires, but take a little organization.

Quest not starting for you?

There appears to be a timer (or it could be a bug) where the quest to start the whole thing isn't available to anyone.

If this happens, just go to another town (Kharanos, Goldshire, Brill, etc) and it should be available. This happened to a group of us and we merely went to another one and this quest was finally found to start everything up.

It could be related to it 'just being completed' or it's a timer or a bug. You may have to travel a bit, but if you look around, you can definitely get it done.

I'm kinda new to questing, (got dungeon runs from lv20-50) do you get the xp reward stated above each time you complete it or just the first time? Thank you in advance for answering.

It's possible to solo the Azure Watch fires.

In the beginning, try to put out the fires on top of the inn. Have a bucket handy and toss it as soon as HH lights it up (usually on the right side of the inn). Then keep at it until the inn is clear of fire. You'll have to run a bit, but it only takes 3-4 bucket tosses to save the inn.

Then go for the fires on the second building. It will be completely on fire by now, but luckily the water bucket supply is very close. In fact, you won't have to move much at all -- you can toss buckets on the fire from standing at max distance to use the water supply bucket. Clear the fires on the left side of the building first, then work your way right, with priority given to the roof of the building. So: left roof, left bottom, center roof, right roof, right bottom, and then there's a spot on the far right. Since the fires will be maxed out, they'll want to shoot little fires to the left often, so keep an eye out. Good luck!

Update: You can do it without a run speed buff, no problem.

Is the xp reward on this scaleable, as I just done this on my lvl 3 Paladin and only recived 250 xp not 12000 xp.

*Edit* Yes it scales just had 1450 xp on my lvl 19 Druid.

Just did this with one other player, you really don't need many helpers. Just start from the beginning before the ire spreads.

Just a tip, if your a lower lv (under 20) GTFO of the way when he casts his damaging spells. I've seen too many low levels get murked due to this.

This can indeed be soloed in Azure Watch. Just did it. Only one building lit up, and it was small. Bucket is really close.

Last night I came back to Azure Watch to see if any other player was around, as I couldn't solo it. There was one player already running and he was level 80 (I'm level 20 F2P). As F2P I cannot say anything (only whisper after you whisper to me), so I couldn't tell him to work together, so I tried to just pass him the water buckets, but it didn't work. Can anybody explain how forwarding the buckets should work? I tried to throw them at him (like onto the house), but they just splashed on the ground. So how should this work? He also didn't understand how bucket forwarding works, called my a n00b and even killed me several times (duel). Anyway, he managed to solo it somehow (maybe due to a speed increase or so) and I also completed the quest this way. After completing this quest the big pumpkin appears that gets you the small nice pumpkin companion.

UPDATE: Quest is Smash the Pumpkin, companion is Sinister Squashling and quest reward is Crudely Wrapped Gift. According to the stats here, I was very lucky, contains-rate is listed with 0.05%.

Tried to do this alone today in Goldshire, was surprised to see a guard NPC helping me out by throwing buckets of water at one of the buildings. Unfortunately the headless horseman threw his pumpkin bombs and killed him

I read somewhere Stop the Fires! that setting up a campfire as a go-to spot for bucket-passing is helpful. Problem is, F2P characters can't shout or whisper, and high-lvl's who can't see your text just run right by the campfire. SO HERE'S THE TRICK:

Start throwing buckets at the campfire. Throw TONS of them, and quickly! You want this to be NOTICED! You'll get the goofs who think you're trying to douse the campfire, but then 1 or 2 will catch on and start standing near it. Even if just to watch. Hit em with the buckets and soon enough word spreads (or see-it-do-it spreads too). Once you get folks coming there for buckets, if you're quick enough and have good aim (set it somewhere you can get a good camera angle), just 1 bucket-passer can feed 2-3 bucket-tossers. Reason is the tossers have to calculate where on the building to throw it, but you only have to hit them. The target is their FEET, btw.

SOME TIPS FOR QUICKNESS: You and the bucket-tossers can each only hold one bucket at a time. (Taurens don't get to show off their muscles here, sorry; nor mages bypass the whole tiny bucket operation-thing.) This means that if you feed a bucket-tosser who's already holding a bucket, it'll just splash at his feet. What a waste! Instead, activate the bucket (get the green glowy aiming circle), but don't toss it yet; hold your cursor over his feet, and click AS SOON AS he tosses his own bucket. This trick also works if folks aren't catching on to the campfire idea. Tossing buckets as them as they pause to throw their own helps the idea sink in, even if you miss, and especially if they come back to the watering hole and "can't pick up more of that item."

Also, if you're the one DOING THE RUNNING, more quickness tips for ya: Set yourself up so you only have to strafe between the watering hole and the place you stand for dousing the building. Zoom out enough to see your target, but also in enough so trees/etc. don't block your view. Strafe heads you directly left or right, with no forwards, backwards, or turning, so you can spend more time directing your aim and less time controlling your character. You also DON'T HAVE TO WAIT until you're at your target to activate the bucket (get the green glowy aiming circle); you can click that on the way over and be aiming before you even reach the toss-spot. With this strafing technique, if you're in an area where less folks are around (and therefore the fires spread less quickly, as this quest scales to players), you can easily solo the whole danged thing. Speed-buffs not required.

If you are on an imbalanced server without anyone helping you this quest can be completed in the opposite factions town. Pick up the quest in your own town as well as a bucket of water. Travel to the opposite factions town and wait for the event to begin. Land on a roof to throw the water bucket at a patch of fire and fly up again and wait for the fires to be put out by the opposite faction. The quest should now complete for you.

After the Headless Horseman has been killed you can also pick up the quest Smash the Pumpkin from the pumpkin on the ground. However, be prepared for max level guards appearing out of nowhere to attack you.

Screw this. What a waste of time. I've read comments it is, is not solvable; completes when fires are out or when you kill horseman. Whatever, I'd rather take up counting sand on the beach.
