The Masked Orphan Matron wants you to help put out all the village fires. When they are out, speak again to the Masked Orphan Matron in town.

Description

The Horde's children need you, <name>. The Headless Horseman, once a human paladin and now an insane fiend, has set fire to our village! You must put out those fires!

Grab a bucket and throw it onto the blaze, or toss it to an ally who is closer to the flames. Extinguish all the fires and thwart the Headless Horseman!

After picking up this quest, I waited around for 10 minutes until the Headless Horseman attacked Razor Hill again, there were about 4 others assisting me with dousing the fires and eventually they all went out.

But I cannot hand in the quest, apparently I didn't complete it. Anyone else having problems?

So , you need to extinguish all of fires in location where you got quest. If you are low on people I suggest you to make a chain of people throwing water one to another. Quest completes when ALL fires is extinguished (check anywhere , it's tricky sometimes). To restart abandon and take daily quest again (not confirmed).

Best place to do, for horde, is either Brill or Razor Hill.

For Brill, there's only 2 buildings on fire but there is obstacles in the way.

For Razor Hill, there's no obstacles, but there are 3 fires.

Make sure you completely put out a fire or it'll flare back up. Easily done at high server load times, impossible to be done alone.

gRRRRRR! Ive done this quest 3 times, put out fires in 3 places and NONE showed complete. Oh, blizzard.....that is low. *cries*

Guide to "Let the Fires Come!" and "Stop the Fires!"

- If the event has not started you will get "Let the Fires Come!". If the event is going you will get "Stop the Fires!". If you already have "Stop the Fires!" in your log and the event is not going you can drop that quest and it will offer "Let the Fires Come!". The event starts once someone accepts "Let the Fires Come!". As long as the pumpkin is gone you can do this event!

- As mentioned before, all the fires need to be completely put out. There can be as many as 3 buildings affected, from my experience.

- Fires spread! Focus on one building at a time.

- Form a brigade! You can pass buckets to each other down the line. You can set up your distance before the event starts. You can't hold more that one bucket, so if you are staging make sure you toss your bucket if you are last in line.

- You can get credit on all your alts with one dousing of the fire!
1. Store all your alts in the inn.
2. Log in each one and accept the quest to put out the fires, then log out with it incomplete.
3. Help put out the fires with the last character.
4. Turn in the "put out the fire" and the "smash the pumpkin" quest for each. The pumpkin should last long enough for each character to get it, provided your computer/Internet are fast enough for the logon process. Note, you will get credit for putting out the fire as you approach the quest giver.

Does anyone know the level requirement for this quest? I did the fire training quest but can't pick this quest up on my level 40 alt.

Apparently this quest is supposed to be possible every 15 minutes, but can bug for an entire town for who-knows-how-long. I waited at Brill for a couple hours (ran my alts all out so they could all do the quest there) and it never triggered. Teleported to Org and ran down to Razor Hill and it was going on-schedule (every 15 min I think).

Eventually someone killed the quest giver and that did seem to reset it finally...

It is much easier to do this in one of the more busy locations such as Goldshire for alliance, I tried this in Azure Watch and could not put the fires out fast enough to stop them spreading...

Shamans -- you can do ALL of this quest while ghostwolf'd. You can pick up a bucket and throw it while transformed and these actions will not cancel ghost wolf. Convenient, considering you have to run all over the place.

If you cannot turn in the quest, and you obviously have completed it, try disabling all of the add-ons you have installed for World of Warcraft and try to turn it in. It should work.

The easiest place for the Horde to accomplish this solo is at the blood elf town in Eversong Woods.

Unlike the other towns, only two fires spawn here, and one of them is within dousing distance of the water bucket.

I suggest quenching the second building first (the building that is further away). Even though the fire on the inn will expand rapidly, its location to the bucket will allow you to easy extinguish the flames with in the quest time.

While brill has more fires, it's easier to do because of so many people going to undercity for the other hallow's end quests. at least on my server that is.

I've had the same trouble as other posters getting credit . . . so far, no luck. Which town in Eversong has an orphan matron?

I'm sick of abandoning, restarting, turning stuff off, blah blah in Brill.

the Masked Orphan Matron is in Falconwing Square, the broken left side of Silverlmoon city.

Every year, when I try to finish this quest, people are running back and forth from the water to the fires and it's a big waste of time and energy! The best way to save your village is to work together with some people by the water troughs getting buckets and tossing the water buckets to people near the buildings that are putting out the fires! Don't waste energy trying to get buckets yourself and running back and forth or you'll never finish this and get the achievement!

I had to go to Razor Hill and run it twice before getting credit for it. There are more people in Razor Hill doing the quest.

Ok, some reason as of 4.2.2 something bugged out at Eversong and I wasn't able to start it up there. For the longest time I thought it was hopeless but then I found a secret!

The Magic Broom is INSTANT CAST! Just bind your bucket to 1 and the broom to 2, and throw bucket, mount, fly, fill bucket, mount, fly repeat.

I was able to two man brill by taking out the inn before it even caught fully on fire and the other two were easy. I just wish I knew about it from the start.

PS - My Ravencrest hardly has any horde on so it was a nightmare even finishing this one using the "passing the bucket" method:P

Eating tricky treats should help you do it simply becouse of the sugar rush! which makes you move 4% faster (8% if you eat 2 times)
NOTE:Dont forget to not eat more than 3

I read somewhere Stop the Fires! that setting up a campfire as a go-to spot for bucket-passing is helpful. Problem is, F2P characters can't shout or whisper, and high-lvl's who can't see your text just run right by the campfire. SO HERE'S THE TRICK:

Start throwing buckets at the campfire. Throw TONS of them, and quickly! You want this to be NOTICED! You'll get the goofs who think you're trying to douse the campfire, but then 1 or 2 will catch on and start standing near it. Even if just to watch. Hit em with the buckets and soon enough word spreads (or see-it-do-it spreads too). Once you get folks coming there for buckets, if you're quick enough and have good aim (set it somewhere you can get a good camera angle), just 1 bucket-passer can feed 2-3 bucket-tossers. Reason is the tossers have to calculate where on the building to throw it, but you only have to hit them. The target is their FEET, btw.

SOME TIPS FOR QUICKNESS: You and the bucket-tossers can each only hold one bucket at a time. (Taurens don't get to show off their muscles here, sorry; nor mages bypass the whole tiny bucket operation-thing.) This means that if you feed a bucket-tosser who's already holding a bucket, it'll just splash at his feet. What a waste! Instead, activate the bucket (get the green glowy aiming circle), but don't toss it yet; hold your cursor over his feet, and click AS SOON AS he tosses his own bucket. This trick also works if folks aren't catching on to the campfire idea. Tossing buckets as them as they pause to throw their own helps the idea sink in, even if you miss, and especially if they come back to the watering hole and "can't pick up more of that item."

Also, if you're the one DOING THE RUNNING, more quickness tips for ya: Set yourself up so you only have to strafe between the watering hole and the place you stand for dousing the building. Zoom out enough to see your target, but also in enough so trees/etc. don't block your view. Strafe heads you directly left or right, with no forwards, backwards, or turning, so you can spend more time directing your aim and less time controlling your character. You also DON'T HAVE TO WAIT until you're at your target to activate the bucket (get the green glowy aiming circle); you can click that on the way over and be aiming before you even reach the toss-spot. With this strafing technique, if you're in an area where less folks are around (and therefore the fires spread less quickly, as this quest scales to players), you can easily solo the whole danged thing. Speed-buffs not required.

Horde players, don't do this quest!

If you are after tricky treat's do not complete this quest, you instead want to do http://www.wowhead.com/quest=12139#comments:id=426081

It's only a single treat per day, but it all adds up in the end.

Alliance versions of both quests seem to award tricky treats to players normally.

If you are on an imbalanced server without anyone helping you this quest can be completed in the opposite factions town. Pick up the quest in your own town as well as a bucket of water. Travel to the opposite factions town and wait for the event to begin. Land on a roof to throw the water bucket at a patch of fire and fly up again and wait for the fires to be put out by the opposite faction. The quest should now complete for you.

After the Headless Horseman has been killed you can also pick up the quest Smash the Pumpkin from the pumpkin on the ground. However, be prepared for max level guards appearing out of nowhere to attack you.
