Description

Well, I was able to make enough repairs to this gear to let you dive for awhile, anyway. I wouldn't count on it holding out for a long time, though.

The wreckage of the ship is strewn along the bottom from the east coast of this island out toward Alcaz Island. While that helm holds out, locate pieces of the wreckage on the bottom between this island and Alcaz. Use this salvage kit to search the wreckage for pieces of the cargo. Be careful not to venture too close to Alcaz Island. Those hydra are fierce.

The debris is along the bottom, but because of the murky water it's hard to see until you're close. Fortunately, there's burning wreckage on the surface marking where they are. The debris on the bottom looks like the debris pools for Fishing, while the wreckage on the surface looks like burning pieces of wood. I was able to use the Salvage Kit on either one when 2.3 first came out, but now it seems you can only use it on the bottom unless the water is shallow.

When you salvage the wreckage, be prepared for an attack. Instead of a salvaged strongbox, you may get a Mirefin Ambusher.

Open your Renn's Supplies to get the free waterbreath hat and the kit to open the salvage.

Just an FYI - if you decide to use water breath pots instead of the hat, the hat still counts down from the time you opened the bag... you can't save it for later :(

This quest is pretty easy if you have eng. Just make yourself an http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10506 Deepdive Helmet. its a lot better than the helm they give you for the quest.

This quest is easy as heck, but the rewards are utter shite, especially considering that by the time you can do this quest, you could quite easily solo the first part of Razorfren Kraul and kill Aggem Thorncurse to get http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6681 instead. Twice.

I did that on my 34 hunter, and picked up a nice new boar pet while being in there.

A few words of warning for this quest:

1. If you are shape shifted while attempting to equip the helmet the helmet will disappear and you will not get the water breathing effect.

2. If there is no room in your inventory for the strong box you will fail to receive it and the wreckage will still disappear.

3. Stay away from Alcaz Island. Straying too closely will yield a ?? Elite Hydra chomping your hide the moment you get too close.

This quest was really easy :]

I just wanted to add, that if you do decide to stay under water, all of the debris have fish floating around the bottom so you can see it from far away in the murky water. So you don't have to go up to look for the burning pieces of wood.

I only ran into 2 aggros. :D

Lol, i found out that when you strike the second time at a wreck, you can hear a sound or nothing. When you here this sound, you will get your strongbox. But if you here nothing on your second strike, the ambusher comes. So at your second strike, if you here nothing, pull back so you can try to salvage again :)

I hadn't tried the above staying on surface trick, but underwater I did find that about 50% of the time I had to aggro with murlocks that pop out of the wreckage and you dont get the strongbox.

Just a heads up, when using the salvage kit there's a very high chance you will spawn a mirefin ambusher instead og getting a quest item.

These ambushers do NOT drop the quest items so can be avoid...

Stealthers can use salvage kit, then just as bar completes restealth, done correctly you will not agro the ambusher.

Same can be applied to mages blinking out of agro range just before mob spawn.

I just wanted to add if it hasn't already been mentioned- when you're in the water, you can tell where the floating wreckages are because they have swarms of fish swimming under them that you'll be able to see from quite far off.

I found the drop-rate improved after I'd gotten one or two of the boxes. Also, if you're trying to get your XP up, I found the divers pretty good for that.

ETA: I just realised Kimmycake already mentioned this - it's very handy :)

don't listen to them i found out the wreckage the ones with the most fish by them have the item your looking for the one with the less fish have the mob by them.p so have fun want remmber only u can prevent forest fire's wrong qoute lol

This quest was not fun. It took me forever to get the 6 salvaged strongboxes needed. It took me almost a full hour to get 6 of them. I spent most of my time fending off divers, mirefin and swimming. Not a quick and easy quest. The loot you received from it was good if you could use it.

If you have Hydrocane from Gnomereagan.... use it. For hunter very good tool to keep swimming under water for quest.

I found a lot around the little islands/sandbars at (67,18). It also makes a convenient eat/drink spot, since at the time I did this, I didn't realize you could just sit on the wreckage.

Seems to me that the boxes only drop from wreckages that are shallow enough to use the salvage kit on the debris when out of the water. I got a box on my first try, then hit murlocs on six in a row. I got sick of dealing with them and the divers, so I stayed at the surface and only used the salvage kit when i didn't have to go below... and was rewarded with five straight boxes. Can anyone give this a shot and confirm?

I found that as soon as you find one box, then the rest come straight afterwards. Doesn't seem to be any other pattern to them, you just have to wait for the first one.

A helpful tip for Rogues doing this that may save you some time, as soon as you finish excavating the wreckage, immediately go into stealth so that if a Murloc spawns, you won't have to fight it. Hope this helps :)

it should be noted that combat will not interrupt extracting so if you dont feel like fighting u can just get the box and run away from the defais around it (or if the murk pops up)

im getting kind of irritated with this quest. i talk to renn and i dont recieve his supply bag? talk to him again and say i dont have diving gear anymore so he gives me the diving helmet but i need salvage kit to complete it. can anyone help?

This quest is not obsolete per say, but changed. You only need one box to complete the quest. Also, you get the box from the floating shipwreck debris, which makes it pretty easy. Don't even need the helmet.

You will have recieved from the previous quest Renn's Supplies. "unpack" it to reveal Salvage Kit and Repaired Diving Gear. Use the kit on any of the floating bits of wreckage to receive Salvaged Strongbox

You now only need one.
