New adventures for Nat in Pandaria!

As of the MoP beta , he is now to be found at level 90 and is titled <The Anglers Quartermaster> at Angler's Wharf, Krasarang Wilds in Pandaria.

He sells the faction rewards for 'The Anglers' and is also a Fishing Trainer.

As of beta he also has a heart indicating personal reputation (like The Tillers) which states;

Nat considers you a friend. Nat likes to drink. Maybe if you find him some more rare fish, he'll share! 0/42999.

We ran into this place by accident and the locals were friendly with both their supplies and booze so we decided to stick around!

He sits in a boat on a Fishing Chair with it's fishing umbrella. Next to him is his new fishing buddy, John "Big Hook" Marsock <Sports Fisherman>.

Surrounded by empty bottles and fish. Nothing new there then...

Came here looking for this info but it wasn't here (strange).

To get 999/1000 Exalted ("Best Friends"/BFF) with Nat Pagle, it will require 43000 rep, just like normal factions (although obviously broken up differently).

43000/500 rep per fish = 86 fish. At 3 fish a day, that's a good 27 days of turning in 3 a day, + 1 day of turning 2 in.

Assuming +10% guild perk: 43000/550 = 78.2. At 3 fish a day, that's 26 days + 1 fish on the 27th.

Not doing the math, but I'm guessing humans can look at a clean ~74 fish, so ~25 days.

Pretty brutal grind honestly, but since today was my first day I'll be BFF's with him in about 4 weeks!

Good luck out there, fellow Salty's, especially with those alpha spines!

The 3 quest items you need to fish up:

Flying Tiger Gourami
Mimic Octopus
Spinefish Alpha

Read the comments on their respective pages for fishing locations.

Update: Warlords of Draenor introduces Nat Pagle (Alliance / Horde) as a follower. Once you have a Level 3 Fishing Shack, you can turn in Lunkers (e.g. Abyssal Gulper Lunker) to Nat for reputation. No need to fish up the Pandarian fish anymore.

When you reach the second level of personal reputation with Nat Pagle, "Pal", a mouse-over explains the following;

Nat considers you a Pal. Nat likes to drink. Maybe if you find him some more rare fish, he'll share!

So far he offers no extra quests, dailies, dialogue, or anything else after reaching the "Pal" level. Will check in again tomorrow when I get a new batch of dailies.

Getting to the "Pal" level took me a total of 6 days, handing in all three rare fishes once a day.

Nat Pagle is also still hanging out on the dock in Dustwallow Marsh/Bay... He gives out a missions and a fishing pole is there reward. But I don't think any of this part counts towards him in Pandaria anyway. I had already done the missions years ago so I couldn't see for myself.
It is nice for all of us old salty fishermen who found him out there back in the day to see him there still fishing as always =D

I did some math and found that if you want to get highest reputation with both The Anglers and Nat Pagle this is what needed:

No bonus:
Questline in Dread Waste: 2520 to Anglers
Fish for Pagle: 43K/500 = 86 fish = 28.67 days
Autorep to Anglers via fish: 86 x 350 = 30100 to Anglers
Left over for dailies: 10380/250 = 42 dailies = 14 days

10% bonus:
Questline in Dread Waste: 2772 to Anglers
Fish for Pagle: 43K/550 = 79 fish = 26.33 days
Autorep to Anglers via fish: 79 x 385 = 30415
Left over for dailies: 9813/275 = 36 dailies = 12 days

20% bonus:
Questline in Dread Waste: 3024 to Anglers
Fish for Pagle: 43K/600 = 72 fish = 24 days
Autorep to Anglers via fish: 72 x 420 = 30240 to Anglers
Left over for dailies: 9736/300 = 33 dailies = 11 days

So for most people (the ones with +10%):
Do the quest line in Dread Waste, hand over 79 fish to Nat Pagle (can be done in 27 days, where you should do 3 dailies 12 of those days, thus:) hand in 36 dailies. This should give you maxed reputation with both factions and thereby save you some time to do other dailies.

Note that the personal reputation earned with Nat Pagle is affected by reputation modifiers, such as:

Human Racial: Diplomacy (+10%)
Darkmoon Faire (World Event - one week/month): WHEE! from riding the Darkmoon carousel (+10%) The longer you ride, the longer the buff lasts, up to 1 hour.
Pilgrim's Bounty (World Event - Holiday): The Spirit of Sharing (+10%)
Hallow's End (World Event - Holiday): Unburdened or Grim Visage (+10%)

Since these rep bonuses do stack, the fastest way to get Best Friend status with Nat would be to complete this on a Human toon, during DMF, Pilgrim's Bounty or Hallow's End, for a whopping +20% bonus!
* Since the DMF is the first full week of every month, and both Hollow's End and Pilgrim's Bounty happen near the end of their respective months, it's currently not possible to stack buffs from DMF with those holidays at least for this year, or unless the world events' dates change or otherwise align.

There are three (3) daily quests that you can pick up from the 3 types of rare Pandarian fish, which can be fished from pools or open water in the following types of water:

Without any reputation bonuses, each of these daily quests rewards 500 reputation with Nat Pagle and 350 rep with The Anglers.

Each of these 3 rare fish is *unique* so you can only have one of each in your bags at a time, but it is possible to fish up, say, the Spinefish Alpha while you have both the Flying Tiger Gourami and Mimic Octopus in your bags. You would have to turn in the quest (get rid of the *unique* fish) in order to catch another one. And since these are daily quests, that means you can only catch 2 of each rare fish per day: 1st one, turn in quest, 2nd one, then you have to wait until the next day to continue fishing for these rares.

Am I just missing someone somewhere, or is there nobody selling drinks at Anglers' Wharf (where Nat says that he and Big Hook stuck around at because the locals shared their drinks)?

And like the Ruby Shard/Jade Cat/et. al. quests with the Halfhill Gang, it'd be nice--since Nat's rep tooltip indicates that he likes to drink--if we could turn in a drink a day to him for added rep.

***Update for 5.2***

This route still works. It's just significantly faster now. Instead of an hour, more like 15-20 minutes.

So I believe I have found a relatively painless and somewhat profitable way to farm up the three daily fish. Improvement suggestions are welcome. This is just how I've done it for the past three days. It's taken less than an hour to get them all, and I've made some fairly decent money on my server doing it.

1. Go to the lake just north of Grookin Hill in Jade Forest. Lots of Jade Lungfish schools here. Fish those up until you get the Flying Tiger Gourami. Stop fishing freshwater.

2. From there, fly west into the summit and fish the Sha touched waters around Inkgill Mere. Fish in the Spinefish schools until you get Spinefish Alpha. Stop fishing sha touched waters.

3. From there, fly east across Jade Forest until you reach coastal waters. Fish any school of fish you see on the coast while heading south. Sometime before you reach the Anglers location, you should fish up a Mimic Octopus. If you dont get it before you get to the Anglers, just keep going. I've never had to make an entire loop around Pandaria to get it done.

It should probably be noted that I am at 600 fishing and I use the following equipment.

Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole
Glow Worm

Today's run of this route got me all three fish in less than an hour. And between vendor trash and items sold on the auction house from sealed crates as well as fish I wasn't going to use, a little over 700 gold.

Coming in 5.2:
The chance to fish up Flying Tiger Gourami, Spinefish Alpha and Mimic Octopus has been increased.
Reputation gains from bringing rare Pandarian fish for Nat Pagle to examine has been increased.

Improvements on both ends :D.

5.2 brought about a change pertaining to Nat. The rate has been increased *significantly* for the drops of the quest fish. I have been able to, for the last 2 days, catch all 3 fish in less than 15 min total. I can also confirm that all three drop from pools - not just open water, as has been suggested by some.

It seems in the most recent hotfix, the increased drop rate is applied to pools only, i have not recently been able to fish the rep fish out of open water although it may have just returned to previous drop rates.

Another Hot fix today 3/18/13 seemed to correct this and the drop rate out of open water does seem to be significantly higher again.

I got the Octopus after ~40 casts.

I got the Tiger Gourami on 1st cast. I think I got a bit lucky here.

I got the Spinefish Alpha after ~50 casts, I tried a theory of mine that the rep fishes drop only if you have started the quests of earlier fishes, I started the Gouramis's quest and got the Alpha fish on 1st cast after that.

Dunno if I just got lucky but I sure am gonna start all the quests immediately after this.

Update1:

Got now both Gourami and Spinefish on 1-5 casts. Mimic however took 78.

Starting the quest didn't change anything. Confirmed, rng just being rng.

EDIT: No comment seems to have this info, you DO NOT need a high fishing for the rep fishes, I got mine at ~50-150 obviously since it grew as I went.

5.2 added "fish of the day" Which changes each day.
Ben of the Booming Voice east of halfhill market in valley of the four winds will tell you.

The quest fish have a very high drop rate and all 3 drop in the zone where the fish of the day is.

A great way to increase Nat Pagle rep is to use the Fish of the Day locations given by Ben of the Booming Voice near Halfhill. Loads of pools will spawn in one spot, and I usually get the quest fish from my 1st or 2nd cast in those areas.
What I like to do is turn the quest fish in after catching it, and then go back to the Fish of the Day area to catch a second one within minutes, for an easy turnin the next day.

Use the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm to increase your catches and minimize time.

These Fish of the Day areas are also very useful if you're after other specific fished up items at the same time. I've gotten multiple Impeccably Sharp Tooth from one area in a short time, and I also caught my Tiny Blue Carp from one of these areas (though that last one may just be pure luck).

So I found it much easier to get these fish from pools
Spinefish Alpha from spinfish pools in Kun-Lai Summit (3rd pool)
Mimic Octopus from reef octopus swarm in Krasarang wilds out in the ocean around the anglers(first pool)
Flying Tiger Gourami I find quickly in karsarang paddlefish/emperor salmon schools also in Krasarang wilds in the rivers(5th 6th pool)

To get reputation with Nat Pagle you must give to him three special fish. You catch these fish in the normal way, and each one of them gives you a quest, which is to return them to Nat. They are rare, hard to catch, and can only be found in a small areas. See the posting here by hmrhead (1,591 – 6·16) on 2013/01/24 (Patch 5.1.0),

Nat, you jerk... after all we went through you 'don't know me'?

... maybe he likes drinking a little 'too' much.

I fish down around 60,40 in the Jade Forest... small little abandoned fish hut by the water... to catch the Sugar Minnows for the Cloud Serpent dailies... and every day when I fish, I always catch either a Flying Tiger Gourami, or the Mimic Octopus before I finish catching the 10 Sugar Minnows.

Going from Ben The Booming Voice's suggestion and using Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole, Weather Beaten Fishing Hat, Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm and a Heat Treated Spinning Lure, I'll almost always get one in ten minutes plus over 2 stacks of fish. I just go for 10 minutes since thats the cooldown on the Anglers Fishing Raft and quite frankly, fishing puts me to sleep.

But i went to Kunlai Summit, at Binan Village, ran towards the water, and started fishing. i didnt even have to toss the pole 10 times before i had both the spinefish alpha AND the Flying tiger gourami!

Interestingly, I've caught Flying Tiger Gourami once in the same lake down by Shado-Pan Fallback in Kun-Lai Summit where you catch Spinefish Alpha. (Normally I start there for Spinefish Alpha, then fly north to the Shado-Pan Fallback lake to get Flying Tiger Gourami, but one time the Flying Tiger Gourami dropped while I was still working on the Spinefish Alpha.)

Can someone confirm whether the WoD Nat Pagle faction is any way related to the MoP Nat Pagle reputation?

I'm currently half way through grinding Nat Pagle rep in MoP but REALLY don't want to continue (it's so tedious) if I have to restart a whole new, different reputation grind with him again in WoD.

I just wanted to tell you that you don't need to be 600 to get those 3 daily fish, I've done it yesterday with only 242+120 fishing skill by following "hmrhead" route, good luck everyone ;)

So Nat did the coolest thing today . . .

I just finished acquiring him as a follower, and assigned him to my fishing shack. I was sick of fishing yesterday, so I waited until today to start fishing again and during my fishing daily . . . HE VISITED ME! If you have Nat Pagle as a follower (level 3 fishing shack, finished his quest line), he will visit you when you are fishing! He just ran up on his horse, said hi, and then rode off. Also he said something about never fishing without a cooler.
