All you need to do is get into aspect of pack, keep hitting him with concussive shot and drop ice trap, kite him around the room

Solix at 4:15 am in the in the Igneous Depths, Not that hard just use your ice trap, disengage and concussive shot to kite him around the room through your ice trap zones until he slows down and his speed/haste buff is gone then drop deterrence and tame him.
Kirix at 7:10am. (Note: you will need to go Beast Mastery and tame a Corehound, if you don't Kirix will kill you)
He was easy, go to the top of The Furnace you will see Kirix, walk around him and you will see a bunch of stones floating in mid air, use them to jump to Fireplume peek, when you get off you should see a group of stone platforms and one that is by itself, mount up and jump on the one that's by itself, (if you go onto one of the large platforms you will get LoSed and Fall to your death.) once your on the platform use your corehounds Heroism dismiss him and tame kirix.

Keep in mind: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAME THE CHALLENGE PET'S you can tame all of the skins by the Forlorn Spire and The Window's Clutch, only take the time to tame the challenge pets if you want to feel awesome.

Quick Facts:

NPCscan ID: 54321
His spawner is not that long (generic 6-17hr spawner) and he does not share a spawner with any other spider. None of the FL spiders share a spawner.
He can be found in the Molten Front in the Igneous Depths (cave area) hiding in a lava pool.
Hostile orange/red lava spider with a tiny hit box (the size of his hit box adds to the challenge.)
He does not move when up, he sits still in his lava bath till one of us eager beavers come along. If your graphics card isn't the best you'll hardly see him in the lava.
Hunter only pet. If killed all he drops is a crystalline tear of loyalty & once killed it will give you a debuff called 'dirty little scrub poacher' that will stay on your toon forever...... naw that debuff stuff isn't true, but if I had my way......:p
Like the other fire spider, Skitterflame, Solix also has a energy bar you need to watch. If his energy bar drops to 0 he dies, this wasn't an issue for my tames since he still had a fair amount of energy left once his buff dropped BUT I can understand when panic sets in it's easy to miss these things so please keep an eye out for it. If you find yourself in a situation where the buff hasn't dropped and his energy is low reset Solix by FDing. He'll evade back to spawn spot so you can try it again.
Solix starts with a buff called Blazing Speed, which means he is too fast and furious for you to tame. He also has Flashfire which boosts his attack speed by 1000% & movement speed by 100%
You're going to need to know how to kite to win this one. The aim of the game is you need to be faster than Solix, you can not let him reach you ever, so you need to use your aspect of cheetah, ice trap and CS shot. You need to be aware of where you lay your ice traps because his hit box is so small it is easy for him to run past a trap without setting it off and if that happens, if there is no CS on him, he'll come at you like a boss and one hit you. While kitting him, & trying to stay far ahead, you also need to keep your eye on both his Blazing Speed buff and his energy bar. You need to kite him around until the buff drops for you to tame but you can't kite for too long or his energy gets sapped and your 99% HP spidy will die on you.

SOLO TAME

For this one here is the best advice I can give if you want to try this solo:-

Rotation:
> > Ice Trap > CS/kite > Ice Trap > CS/kite > > tame pet at max distance.

My walk through is this:
Step into the blue glyph that is right in front of him first. There are burst flames (mini splat eruptions) that knock you into lava and glyphs protect you from this knock back. If you do get knocked into the lava Solix hit box is tiny, swim right behind him to far wall (there was a dead NPC floating in the lava in this area - lol nice blizz) just get up on the ledge (there is a glyph on it) & wait till you get the wind effect and mighty leap back to the main area. Once in the glyph I switch to aspect of cheetah. I than lay down an ice trap wait right before CD is over I fire my first CS at him turned and ran. From there I just kite CSing and dropping ice traps when CD was up. I used the glyphs as targets for me to run to (I found plotting from point to point easier to concentrate on what was happening to Solix) and when the buff drops tame at max distance

NOT-SO-SOLO TAME: DRUID/DK METHOD
As much as I don't like seeing hunters try and take on these challenges within a group, instead of soloing it, I understand on more hostile realms you don't have the luxury of attempting tames solo & sometimes it just doesn't work solo no matter how long you try. Here is the group method which is very straight forward.
1. Get a druid to root (or DK to chain) Solix while you CS, keep doing this till buff drops.
2. Tame
... happens in secs. But if you have the luxury of being able to tame solo please try to tame these challenge spiders solo.

One of the 2 unique spiders out of the 5, solix must be kited around until he is low on energy, when his energy is low enough he can be tamed but be sure you tame him right away, if he runs out of energy he will die. and he is not easy to come by. When kiting him i had to turn around every 3 seconds to shoot a concussive shot, and i pulled out my ice trap at the end for the tame.

Note: Although some may say it is, the daily is not required to tame him.

Tamed on my Hunter this morning. 5:18am Greymane Server

Wasn't to hard just had to get the mechanics of running back with aspect of the pack and concussive shot going and dropping Ice Trap (not Freezing Trap, like my 2nd fail attempt).

1st time was big fail still had my pet (Yeh I know epic Huntard mistake) but I was so happy to see a new rare I completely forgot to dismiss my Core hound first.

3rd try was the successful tame.

Note: Big shout out to the Druid that let me tame him, as apposed to a Warrior which before hand had told my wifes hunter he was trying (attempting) to kill Skitterflame and added that "Boy he melee's real hard". I was in near hesterics when I seen this on her screen.

Now to find a name for her..

I tame him on Sentinels around 7 am Server time. Having aspect of the cheetah/pack helps immensely just run laying frost traps behind you and turn around to fire CS whenever its ready.. takes about 4 to 5 slow effects to knock the buff off of him then pop deterrence and start tame at range.

Was sitting around waiting for him for a while, then relogged for my guild's alt run. I needed to cut some gems though, so I logged back into my hunter ... NPCScan gave me a heart attack, there was Solix in front of me!

A hunter that was an acquaintance was trying to tame him for a little bit but was repeatedly failing. I whispered and asked if I could give it a shot, she gave me the go-ahead.

I sat in front of Solix, threw a Freezing Trap on the bridge behind me (was sitting on the blue rune to the right as you enter the cave) and hit him with a Concussion Shot. Kiting him around the bridges was ridiculously easy when you keep popping him with CS, but as I was in Survival and I don't tame pets often anymore, I didn't have my Tame Beast+Deterrence macro on my bars or bound. I panicked as his energy got low and accidentally killed him by lowering his energy too much right as I Feigned Death to try and reset him.

I feel like a jerk and whispered the other hunter immediately, apologizing profusely. Another hunter whispered me and started calling me a ninja, but never responded when I explained I asked permission to attempt first. :P

So, to the other hunters: Keep in mind that it's insanely easy to kill Solix by accident. His energy drops rapidly once he hits a frost trap, so make sure you're completely prepared, unlike me. :(

this is what i did to tame Solix...

run around spamming conc shot... if you have the agi+speed enchant on your boots you won't need aspect if you have the +35 agi no speed do the aspect dance trick with hawk (or fox) and cheetah... stay in cheetah and if he gets close switch to hawk or fox to avoid daze... he hits pretty hard so try not to get hit... after he hit 25% Energy i had my guild leader (a tauren paladin) stun him with Hammer of Justice... i popped my haste cooldowns to get the tame of before his energy ran out... i got him with like 3% energy left... and im pretty sure i was the server first (horde at least) cuz i've never seen a hunter with the skin...

soooo basically spam conc shot while kiting then at 27% (27% gives u extra time to pop haste cooldowns + ancient hysteria + abandon... but he's tamable at 25%) have someone stun him and then pop haste buffs and tame = gg. win. end.

Do not forget to put up cheetah with this guy. Its better to place a ice trap, wait for CD, then pull with CS and turn and run. Dont back peddle at all, just turn for a second to shoot CS then run again. Using ice trap when you can. If your mm spec and have concussive barrage thats extra slows but its important that once he gets to 48% <.. to hit tame. He loses the last 47% extremely fast. Also as long as hes not to close to you he shouldnt do that much damage to you.

Once any of these rares lose their first debuff you can tame.

Solix/skitterflame pay attention to the focus bar. The yellow bar.
Deth the health bar.

Solix will become slower when hes tameable.

Just Tamed him on Magtheridon Server. had 2 other hunters help me. Trying to tame Solix while fighting off Ally. (wanted to thank inches from Simplicity for sucking bad). used Aspect of Cheetah while con shot and ice trap. did 1 lap around and by the time i did the lap i was able to tame. Put a ice trap down. hit him with concussive shot and tame him. GL to the hunters...also guys dont be %^&*s and kill while hunters are trying to tame pet. its not far its not right. have some respect and the hunters will appreciate you even more. i had skitterflame killed twice while i was taming. and the crab killed once. GL hunters go get em

Tamed him on Gurubashi at 9:30pm server time. He was laughable to tame... just rand around the ring CSing him til the buff dropped off, CS shot one last time and tamed from max range and got him with 60k out of 116k left... also had AotC on. You can outrun him quite easily. No traps required or anything (mostly cause he missed every trap I placed...)

I tried to help a friend tame it, but traps wouldn't work, and didn't make much of a difference considering the spider's buff. We kept getting thrown in the the lava from something too. On me (cloth wearer) he would hit for about 80,000 damage a hit. We had another hunter in the group trying to CC with CS, but he would die too quickly to help. We didn't attempt to tame the spider that many times, because we were discouraged after dying 3 times, so we probably failed from lack of experience. Hunters who stick with it should be able to tame this spider pretty easily.

Kimmy's Guide for Solix

Solix is a beautiful little fire spider, isn't he? If you wander into his cavern and happen to see a red dot, act fast! His presence won't remain hidden for long. He has a buff that makes him very fast and hit very hard until it wears off. Ya gotta kite him!

1. Make sure you have Concussive Shot and Frost Trap ready!

2. Start off with a Concussive Shot to pull Solix, then flee from him. You can use Aspect of the Cheetah for extra speed if you wish!

3. Reapply Concussive Shot as soon as the CD wears off! If you don't Solix may catch up to you and claim you as dinner.

4. WATCH HIS ENERGY BAR. This is important. I actually killed Solix the first time because I thought his buff wore off with his health, but that's not the case. As you kite him around the perimeter, his energy bar will be slowly draining. Watch it. Once it hits roughly 50, the buff will drop off. IF HE DROPS TO ZERO ENERGY, SOLIX WILL DIE. We don't want that! D:

5. Concussive shot again and frost trap (but be careful of placement, Solix misses traps easily... so sneaky!) and begin taming. You should be able to survive 2-4 hits without dying.

6. /cheer! You tamed Solix! :D

Tamed him 20 Minutes Ago on Baelgun under the name Preymane.

TIPS:

1.) Aspect of the pack

2.) Start off with your first shot being CS. Don't bother to put down traps, as he ignores them.

3.) If you are a Worgen, use your Darkflight (a.k.a. Dash) ability.

4.) Run, CS, Run, CS.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: WATCH. HIS. ENERGY. He will die if he gets too low or runs out.

As soon as he loses the buffs that he has, turn and tame. For me he had me down to 15K health so this guy is a HARD hitter.

If all goes well, you just tamed Solix.

Now do a sexy dance. :)

Only the yellow and red skins are common. ~~The green skin is from a very random small mob, that is hard to find~~.

Solix and Deth are unique skins.

This is not accurate information. For collectors that want the RARES from the taming challenges, the green spider is from Kirix npc#54323. He shares a skin / color with the smaller spiders, Cinderweb Broodling. Which really are not all that hard to find. Hyjal protectors roam the area and fight off spiders. I'm assuming they are bitten during the battles and infected. Eventually one will stop and say he feels ill and ask for help. He then explodes and several tiny green spiders come out which are tameable.

You are however correct in that Solix npc#54321 and Deth'tilac npc#54322 are unique model colors.

Taming this guy while people are down there doing the runes daily can be a blessing and a curse. On one hand the packs of mobs people end up training while they're running around getting the runes can set your frost traps off for you before Solix ever gets to them, making sure they go off and he doesn't skirt around them with his tiny hitbox. On the other hand, those same mobs can aggro onto you when they hit your trap, and if you're kiting Solix around with cheetah/pack on and one of them hits you it's over. So, if you're down there doing your daily and you see a hunter running for his life from a big orange spider, do him a favor and make sure you smack those adds that chase you around a time or two so you wont loose threat on them and the hunter can have an easier time ;)

Got him today, 130 am on Wildhammer. Took a few attempts, traps are almost useless, conc shot and AOTC were enough to keep him at a distance.
One thing, if its not going well, I think you can reset by using the wind funnel/jump things. It happened for me anyway, can anyone else confirm?

After 10 failed tries where I didn't even make it past the first bridge before he killed me, I gave up. I did it all, used pack, started off with concussive, dropped trap while running, (avoided every time but one). I admittedly am the world's worst kiter. I never have been able to do it worth a darn. Running, turning, shooting, turning back the right way and running again are impossible for me. I never do it if there's any way at all to avoid it. I let Mages or DK's or anybody but me do that stuff. For me, this guy is 20 times harder than Kirix. I got that one first try with a Corehound buff and a haste potion. He never even got to try casting his stun deal.

Kudos to anyone who can get this guy because I sure can't.

I tried one more time and in the middle of the kite he stopped to fight with the mobs people were running from. I got his attention again and got him low enough but he died before I could even start the tame. Oh well, I don't like Spiders as pets anyway.

just tamed Solix at about 8am server on Arygos. the best thing that worked for me is the concussive shot run, repeat method. Stood on a rune first with a freezing trap ready and then I kited him all the way out of the cave and when his debuff wore off I was able to tame successfully. good luck to all!

Confession time fellow Hunters.......
After failing to realise where Solix was I turned to WoWhead and then made my way to the cave.
I was the first Hunter there. Having had a quick read of the "how to" from all the advice here I attempted it. Suffice it to say 3 deaths later (I was getting better at it) I waited to res only to see 2 Alliance Hunters try. Both died. I repaired my gear outside (mammoth vendor) and returned to wait my turn. One of the Alliance managed to die and lose aggro to the other Alliance just as the buff Solix has was removed.......the second Hunter started to tame but was too close and was killed........I had the distance luckily and tamed too (I feel bad that I had not done the work) and managed the tame, Solix actually died ! I was down to 1500 hps and as I bandaged I checked the Call Pet to happily see a 5th pet, "spider" in there ! Big thanks to the excellent kiting but I couldn't resist the prime opportunity. Hope I am not judged too harshly for this act of thievery.

Just got this guy on Cenarion Circle at around 6 am server. I was having issues until I came here and read about dropping ice trap at the beginning, aspect of the beast and kite like hell popping CC when up. I did see a warrior help me out by attacking him before he ever hit my ice trap. He asked if I needed it before I started but I didn't notice till right when I made my first shot. So if you can get a buddy to help get him down some, do it! It's easy peasy after that! Good luck!

Tamed him today, credit to previous posters for the strategy that eventually worked for me:

1) Lay down Ice Trap, wait for the cd to wear off, pull him with concussive shot, start running.

2) Keep running, kite him around the pool he spawns in, don't stop!

3) Repeat Ice Trap (NOT Freezing Trap) and Concussive Shot every time they come off cd. You'll run him over the second ice trap twice most likely.

4) Use aspect of cheetah/pack to stay ahead of him -- if he catches up, that's it, you'll add to the repair bill.

5) Watch his energy bar as you run, turn to tame him as soon as his energy approaches the right level, and start taming as he comes into range for the tame.

6) He runs at times on the edge towards the pool as you kite him around, so place traps close to the edge and stay well ahead so his shortest route to you makes him hug the edge.

If there are no one questing in there, there are no other npc's around to get in your way. I had the luck of having many attempts in peace in there. I alternated attempts with another hunter who gave up (or went for Anthriss who spawned and triggered NPCscan while we were at Solix), I got Solix in my 10th attempt (yup, I suck).

Also, as you get his energy down he slows down by that too, so the important thing is to run like mad in the beginning. But dont be too far away when he becomes tameable, his energy may run down fast so he dies before you get the tame off. (When my tame was at 1 sec to go, Solix was at 12/100 energy and my health was at 48%).

Saw this guy exactly 12 hours apart. The first time I made the mistake of dropping a third ice trap before taming, and the tame was at .5 seconds when he ran out of energy. Make sure you feign death to try again if he gets too low. The second time I got him very easily, just cheetah and conc shot and run around in a circle. Overall, one of the easier trick tames. Good luck!

This is found within a cave (Igneous Depths) and is one of the easier rare hunter pets to tame. It's all about kiting him until his "Blazing Speed" buff wears off, which will happen naturally as his energy drops. Just use concussive shot and ice trap while you run around the circle.

If you have a friend who can stop him in place, like a druid with root, it makes taming ridiculously easy. Otherwise, make sure you're at max range while he's slowed before beginning to tame. You will likely be one shotted if he reaches you.

Easy time if you know how to jump shot, I just ran around going from 2 of the lower platforms to the big high one while jump shooting concussive shot, super easy, speed buff wore off I dropped snake trap and frost trap about 10 yards apart disengaged and started my tame, he got to me with about 3 seconds left on the tame, hit me 2ce for ~22k each time and then he was mine.

And fyi while there are other challenging tames for the spiders Solix is only 1 of 2 with a unique skin.

OK, i got solix completely by accident. i was camping on the single floating rock wait for krix to spawn. i had a feeling the another spider was up. i cast my eagle eye over to where deth spawns and nothing. but on my mini map my track beasts picks up somthing. solix! i rush down there got a guild mate on his pally to help me after i died once. while i was waiting for him to come i watched a rogue get drowned by lava after trying to kill him and a worgen warrior get face smacked. my guild mate got there but the died due to people's quest mobs. finally, both me and him are there. i place my freeze trap down and hit my concussive shot to daze him. my friend dazed him just after wards we got him down to tameing lv but somthing went wrong and we lost his attion and hit reset. we tryed again but more people came and nearly killed him but i manged to get his attion and mange to tame him while to worgen warrior who tryind to kill him twice (once alone and once with another hunter) looked one in disgust. i had my health nearly dead due to the fact that the other stupid people there got him clost to me but i still got hi.

i wish all u other hunters luck on getting this bueaty. now i got and wait for either Cinderweb Broodling to spawn or kirix to spawn

The buff that he has doesn't seem to last too long. I was able to throw down 2 ice traps. There was a troll, and some other hunter down there with me. Troll died, I went, died, next hunter, died. Took me a couple seconds to realize I put down freezing trap instead of ice trap.

Next round, ice trap, conc shot, Troll attacked. Solix went over ice trap, I just kept conc shotting, troll died (guess he didn't know about disengage). Next hunter was attacking I believe, because Solix went after him next. After he died(again no disengage), I conc shot one more time, dropped another ice trapped, disengaged and tamed away. Was pretty intense!

Nelf-MM Hunter. Tamed at Caelestrasz server on 5:22am ST. After dieing twice, decided to add running speed enchant on boots for extra boost. Have aspect of cheetah as well for obvious reasons. Laid ice trap (wait a few seconds before pulling Solix to lessen trap cd), conc shotted him then disengaged (very useful to gain distance, just make sure you don't disengage into the lava pits) and kept kiting while hitting him with conc shot as soon as it came off cd and laying another ice trap. As soon as buff wears off start taming (via deterrence/tame beast macro to avoid his melee attacks) Not a difficult tame if you are prepared. Hope this helps other hunters on my server.

EDIT: Solix spawned again at 11:52am ST same day so that's at least 6hrs from last spawn.

How I tamed this beauty: I do suggest having a good hunter buddy help ya if u find to have trouble(ex: lag). Have the ice traps spaced out in the cave path that u take. Use Aspect of Cheetah. Avoid going near the wall, he is very fast and I have witnessed many deaths due to that wall by the lava spot here he sits. Seems to be tamable at about 40-45 energy. As a precaution use Deterrence if so desired. Does not do much damage after his energy buffs fall off.

NOTE: If you are a worgen, take advantage of darkflight. :)

Solix is quite easy to tame once you know how. The trick is to be able to jump, turn, Concussive Shot, and turn back before you hit the ground, this helps you keep your speed up. You should be able to outrun him with no movement buffs as long as you keep him dazed through Concussive Shot As soon as he hits 50 energy drop an ice or freezing trap and begin taming. He loses enough attack speed that you should be able to tame him before he gets in more than three hits. Good luck, and enjoy your new unique spider.

Just one update, I found Solix after a few hours camping, after getting his energy down I was about to start taming when a shaman and another hunter started attacking him and eventually got his aggro which made me loose my taming and he eventually died because of lack of energy. After getting frustrated I decided to start camping again, 2 hours after his death and after a whooping 21 hours camping he hasn't spawned yet so he could defenitely take 1 day to spawn again.

Update: Just got him, he spawned exactly at the same time he had spawned yesterday, around 20:55 give or take a minute. I died twice because of all the adrenaline of finally seeing him pop and having tons of people in the cave with me but I prepared a macro asking people not to attack him and it seemed to work since nobody attacked him. But got it right in the nick of time since as I left the cave 3 hunters were already looking for him, one of them asked if I had got him just now.

This taming method is a rather idiotic piece of design, I just found him a few minutes ago and it takes so long to pull him around this busy area that other players constantly mess it up.

Because of repeated interferance by people doing dailies there he reset at least 5 times and because of this several other hunters turned up after I did who in tern started screwing up my attempts further. In the end I purposely destroyed Solix by taming early to prevent them from getting it, and will continue to do so as long as other players screw up my attempts.

Another example of a game mechanic that has not been thought out properly.

WHY do people kill hunter pets as someone's taming just to be a jerk? What an AWFUL area for this pet to be in and you have to kite him around for a bit. Everyone on that quest will see a hunter kiting him around and jerks will kill him. Really upset how such #$%^&*!s some people can be, on your own faction. I will never try to get this pet again

I tamed Solix tonight on Area52 at 6:30pm (servertime) I thought I'd have to get help but I managed to solo tame him got a ice trap set right in front of him when he's in his lava pool went right behind him & hit him with a concussive shot so then he had to go all the way around to try to meet up with me that gave me enough time to set one more trap & kept hitting him the CS the it seemed like he just dropped the buff on himself really quick I thought he'd take sometime to do so + I was lucky only 2 people tried to kill him but they got one shotted then I had him all to myself...lol but yay I got him finally! (I was also in Marksman spec) I now have 8 of the 10 newest rares in Patch 4.2 - Skarr, Karkin, Solix, Deth'tilac, Kirix, Magria, Anhka, & Ban'thalos! Good Luck to others seek these awesome pets! :) oh! I found Deth'tilac to be abit tricky due to people killing him on me or Hunters sneaking up to steal the tame on me - Solix was also killed on me more then once & tamed but I never gave up on trying to get them! (now I have them)

Just got solix today i died when i got him but i still had him with me. i was amazed all i did was use concussive shot ice trap and disengage and had him. took me 2 deaths. but on the third death while taming i got him. so to all you hunter out there use those three spells in order to tame him.

If you notice the only item they drop is called Crystalline Tear of Loyalty , and the description of that item says "The desire to serve as a loyal companion coalesced into a single priceless crystals" and that is the way of Blizzard to say you shouldn't be killing these spawns but instead hunters should tame them (notice the part of : The desire to serve as a loyal companion = A hunter pet)
So yh if a wasnt the first one to notice this sry then i didnt read trough 69 comments ( or something like that) to know if i am stealing someones post or not, but i reached to this conclusion myself so just wanted to put that out there.

PS: There are 10 rare spawns that came in , in patch 4.2.

Found Solix while doing dailies on my mage at about 422am server Magtheridon, a hunter was there who was trying to figure out how to tame him. I had researched in advance for my own hunter, so I filled the hunter in on what I knew. The hunter kited through a few attempts, but had some issues at the last bit of tame. I offered to timewarp, figuring it couldnt hurt. Worked a treat, and damn.... he is a cool looking spider.

- kite, use the traps, conc shot. Doesn't take very long for the haste buff to expire, make sure to not get to far ahead of Solix

- Deterence/tame is your friend :)

-if all else fails, sometimes a mage or shaman can give an assist.

This isn't a hard tame once you get the trick.
The whole deal with Solix is slowing him down and going back to the old school lost art of kiting.
I stood in the blue rune facing Solix who is chilling out in the lava.
Dismissed my pet, and launched a frost trap behind me on the bridge.
Back out to max distance and pulled with CS.
SInce the bridge is a small area, the trap will hit, slowing him down.
Keep running shooting CS and make a full loop over the bridges, ending up where you pulled him.
Watch for his debuff to fall off- hit your det+tame macro and enjoy your new pet.

I ending up hitting det too soon, and it was a close tame, I was down to 6K health. You don't have to pop hero, be BM or do anything special with pots or haste gear to tame him.

I tamed him on US Argent Dawn 5:00 AM server on a Tuesday before maintenance.

He killed me once when I thought I was safe with the freeze trap- don't even try. Concussive shot will keep him slow enough. Tamed him at 17 energy on Wyrmrest Accord at 9:30-ish realm time.

Fun fact- Caught him a few hours after I got my Sambas.

Sad fact- I had to dump my Ban'thalos for him.

This is one of the harder tames on a high population server. just because of the dailys and all the people who see a rare and think about epic loot. Hunters be sure to dps him alot while your running around the room, it helps just incase some tard tries to interfere.

Tamed on Akama @ ~2:10pm server time (8/10/11). I am BM specced.

He was previously cached in my NPCscan, so the only reason I knew he was up was due to an announcement that someone made in general chat after another hunter had accidentally killed Skitterflame. Tons of hunters keep running by with Molten Front rare pets and I'm kind of tired of emptying out my cache 6 - 10 times per day. :P Please other hunters... stop doing that. It's mean. Especially when you name the pet its original mob name. You fool both my scanner and my target macro and it makes me so sad. /end QQ

So anyways, Solix ate my face like 3 times before I figured out how exactly to place traps and to not back-peddle like a noob. He spawns inside of the Igneous Depths in one of the lava pools. It appears that he can spawn in any of the pools at random. When I came in today, he was in a pool in the middle of the cave and off to the right.

Here is what I did on my successful tame:

1.) Stood as close to him as I could without aggroing and placed an Ice trap down (slowing trap).
2.) Made sure that Aspect of the Cheetah was on (you can't do this without using Cheetah).
3.) Moved back from the trap in a straight line and waited for Ice trap to come off cooldown.
4.) Once Ice trap was off cooldown, I hit him with Concussive shot, turned, and immediately started running away from him.
5.) Made sure he was in a direct line behind me and put down my next Ice trap (meanwhile, he is struggling through my first ice slick).
6.) Refreshed Concussive Shot and continued to run like heck -- looping back around to where the first Ice trap was placed (both traps #1 and #2 still had active ice slicks on the ground).
7.) Threw down one more trap and hit him with Concussive shot one more time for good measure.
8.) Halfway to my original starting point, his energy was down to 17 so I began the tame (should have hit him with Concussive Shot once more, but panicked a little). I use a Deter/Tame macro, so he got right up in my face, but at this point had lost enough of his buff that he only took about 50% of my hp away.
9.) Acquired my new spider pet, now named Igneous. :)

Tips:
- Kite him in a circle. Big enough that you have time to get some distance from him, but small enough that you can reuse your ice slicks.

-He is tamable once his energy falls below 20, but WATCH OUT because he will die if it reaches 0. This can happen if you get overzealous with the kiting part of the fight. Also, as his energy falls, he moves and attacks at a slower pace.

-He is a giant spider with a hitbox roughly the size of his actual body (not including his creepy legs). Make sure you trap him on straightaways, if he is turning, he can easily skirt around your trap and will quickly catch up to you.

-Keep Concussive Shot up as much as possible.

-Strafe to shoot, do not back-peddle. You must keep running until it is time to tame him, and then you want to start it at max distance!

Just tamed him with ease. Didn't even use the aspect or anything.

I just switch spec that have Entrapment and then drop Ice Trap on platform in front of him and place Snake Trap on the bridge behind me. Then popped CS on him and ran away leading him into snake trap, that will keep him busy killing the snakes while being rooted by the Entrapment.

Popping CS, Ice Trap, and Snake Trap until he finally slowed down then pop another either Snake or Ice trap and let the taming begin.

If you can get a Druid friend to help out this can be very easy. Just have the Druid root (can be rooted multiple times) Solix while the Hunter Concussion Shots Solix down to around 25 energy. Then just tame away while Solix hits you.

Heres the one thing that will help out alot.. for solix and skitterflame the only bar you should look at is the second bar, not the health the energy bar. Once solix gets to 48% he is tameable, youll probably have some distance form him so just hit detterence just incase and hit tame beast. Once he gets low energy he hits alot less then before so you should be fine but however if he gets low in energy he dies so that is probably what happened to you. Once he gets tameable he loses energy extremely fast.

Your best bet is if you plan on taming any rare just for kicks or if you happen to see it, read up on it. Knowing crucial information like how to tame it, when to tame it, and what will kill it is pretty vital with these rares. Unlike any other rare its not just trap and tame, even if you know the strat something can happen to mess you up and not spending so much time figuring out what to do means you have a better chance of taming what you like and less chance of you or the rare dying.

Taking less then a min to go on wowhead to read the strat or on the petopian forum really does help :)

Another tip: Make sure you have a slots to tame the mob in. When I attempted it on my Hunter, another Hunter was helping me Concussive Shot it since I suck at kiting. Got him to taming range but couldn't since I had too many pets. Of course, it dies due to no energy.

That sucked. 1st pet out of 10 I can get and that happens. :(

Makes me sad I got a Crystalline Tear of Loyalty.....on my own Hunter.

I had the hunter stand up in the center, there's a spot where there aren't any rocks that you can shoot at him. I'm a rogue, so I used crippling poison and shiv'ed him while the hunter went down the path he didn't go. Kept Tricks of the Trade up to attract to the hunter and lowered his energy down to 30 then tamed him. Easy enough to keep him going back and forth in the middle part while the hunter dances back on the far side. Hope it helps.

Tamed on Sentinels on the evening of August 23rd 2011 at 7:32 server. I used Glyph of Concussive Shot as marks to keep him at bay, and then took the risk of taming him at 20 focus. It was narrowly done, but I tamed him. I am a very happy hunter. :D

Tamed Solix on 8/23/11 at approximately 9:00pm server time. Can be a tricky tame for sure, as everyone else is saying. Have to lay a frost trap in middle of the path you take him and kite him around the room, hitting him with concussive shot as you go. He'll get close to you, so make sure you disengage away when he gets close. Also, after many attempt I used aspect of the cheetah and it helped tremendously. You have to keep an eye on his buff "blazing speed". After kiting him for a good 20-30 seconds, the buff will go away and you can tame. Make sure you pop deterrence before you tame because he 5-6 shots you. Deterrence will go away halfway through the tame and he will start hitting you. Don't panic, you'll finish the tame before you die if you're at full health. Definitely a fun challenge, and a really cool pet to own, I've had numerous hunters asking me how/where I got him. Tamed on Cenarion Circle at 10:27am server time. It took me about 3 traps to get him down to where I could tame successfully. Used aspect of the cheetah and concussive shot whenever it was up. I managed to stay in front of him nicely that way (even though I only have about 7% haste). Also, he does not use the thermal vents, he just swims through the lava xD

I sat around on my DK watching this guy, asked in guild, asked a couple popular hunters and finally asked in open chat, no one responded, soooooo, I got out, got my hunter from across the world and went at it. I am not the greatest kiter and he didn't hit any of my traps so I had Cheetah, was up the ramp a little from him, poped him with concussive and ran like hell. I think I made about 1 1/2 or 2 laps around the lava pool kiting sideways and popping spamming concussive shot. He got to just under 50%, one last concussive, deterrence and tame, took some hits and was pretty low on health once deterrence dropped but bingo, made the tame. Only took like 6 or 7 deaths, another hunter arrived while I was corpse running and they got one shotted and left.

I suggest doing this as survival, simply for the faster trap cd, and the longer lasting traps. Helps a great deal, and only took 30 seconds to tame. Ice trap and concussive shot rock house in this situation. Brought him down to about 50% energy, he hit me once for about 50k, and then never hit me again. Easy tame.

I am horde. A worgen hunter and I were racing to tame him around 9:30p on Lightbringer server. There were three alliance there that were waiting by a rune and activated it and killed him when he came by. I will never understand why people would do that. They literally just waited there to kill him. (Just happened a couple of minutes ago and I am venting. Sorry bout that.)

On a more helpful note, I just used Aspect of the Cheetah/Pack and Concussive Shot until the buffs left and I was able to tame him. It seems the only problem getting him is not having anyone killing him.

My friend and I found a really easy way to do this, if one of you is a druid. Solix can be rooted, so just kite him to the middle, slowing him down enough, then have the druid root him in place while the hunter spams tame pet to avoid breaking the root. Worked like a charm...

Third time is DEFINTELY a charm. Learning from my past mistakes when trying to tame him. I turned to Survival Spec and used a combo of Concussive Shot, Ice Trap, And Snake Trap I was able to tame this beast.

I started out using Concussive Shot to drag him out of his lava pool, then Ice Trap him as he came towards me. Since I was Survival Spec the Entrapment talent kicked me which give me some running distance and was about to fire off another Concussive Shot and lay down a Snake Trap, which also trigger Entrapment. As he killed off my snakes, Ice Trap was ready again and I was able to gain more running distance. By this time, he was tamable, so I just hit the Tame Beast button and crossed my fingers, hoping he wouldn't run out of energy before he I could get him. Luckily for me, I survived the tame with 50% of my Health left!

Third time lucky.
First time, got aggro from someone doing the rune quest and thought that this prevented my tame, when actually you still need Solix in a distance to successfully tame. But discovered this after second attempt.
Spawn time is easy to calculate, so went down into the cave, Concussion Shot him out of the cave with more space to move. Once the buff was gone, disengage and concussion shot then hit tame. Easy. No switching to Survival Spec, no traps needed. Didn't get the chance to hit me.

i just tamed him today at 2.40 on kazzak server

its really easy if u know how to do it... 1st he have 1k speed buff on him and some other buff and he 2 shotts u if he get to u. i didnt know what to do when i saw him so i just hitted and tried to tame. was fatal ofc he came to me and i died in a sec... than i read and tactic was rly easy.

1st i pulled him with concussive shot and putted ice trap down. i was runnin arround the cave droppin ice traps when i could and watch that concussive never goes off... refres hit every time u can. i was just arcane shootin him + slowing and runnin arround cave till his buffs turned off.. when buffs was off i dropped 1 more flag refreshed concussive shot and started taming. he charged on me and he reached me when taming was almost over. he hitted me for arround 55k (i was in ruthless gear) and than taming was over. i survived with 50% of hp and nice spider as my pet :p

ps. was using aspect of the cheetah all the time

Ok, took me about an hour of trial and error but I've come up with a pretty easy strat for taming this unique skin spider.

1) Enter the Ingeus Depths and go to the right where Solix spawns.
2) Drop an Ice trap (NOT freezing trap) just to the left of the rune directly in front of the lava pit he's in.
3) Wait for your CD to come up and CS him to engage Solix (Be sure he hits your trap)
4) With aspect of cheetah on, run back across the bridge towards the entrance.
5) Drop another Ice trap in the middle of the bridge. (Again, make sure he hits your trap)
6) This is the important part. Feign Death to leave combat.
7) You'll now have 2 active Ice traps on the ground. CS again to reengage Solix.
8) Run across the traps, kiting Solix along the traps.
9) As you round the corner towards the next bridge, drop another Ice trap. (Be sure he hits it)
10 Use your deterrence/tame beast macro after you get across the second span.
11) /dance with your new unique skinned spider pet!

In case you don't have the macro it's...
/cast deterrence
/cast tame beast

Finally tamed this beauty at around 6am server on Smolderthorn. Happy hunting! :D

(I should also note, I hit 85 about 3-4 hours before my rare spawn hunting in Firelands. I was wearing the crafted bloodthirsty PvP gear since it's a PvP server and still had over 80% health when I tamed him)

Caught today on Laughing Skull. I've now caught Deth, Solix and Kirix all within a week of each other. Kinda sad it went so quickly, those are some fun pets to tame!

Also, just keep Daze shot on him the whole time you should be fine, throw in a Frost Trap and a disengage. Just make sure he has enough energy for you to tame him!

Blizz really needs to make our stable bigger, or at least the ability to purchase another 10 slot stable.

I just tamed Solix 1:25 sever time on Dragonmaw. What I did was kite him around w/ aspect of the cheetah on while hitting him with concussive shot right before it always ran out. I did this until his buff went away (I didn't lay the freezing trap because he never set them off). Then when his buff was gone (I made my way to a blue circle) I used the macro I used to tame Kirix:
/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast
I don't know if Deterrence is needed, but he would've killed me if I didn't cast the macro to tame him so yeah, might be.

An old as dirt tip whenever you're kiting is to perform jump-shots. While running, jump & turn your camera around while in the air, allowing you to shoot behind you, then turn your camera back to your running direction as you land.

Doing the above it's a simple deal to keep Concussive Shot up on Solix. No need for traps or any other funny business.

Just tamed him tonight, died about 12 times before perfecting my technique, I layed an ice trap ran and refreshed concussive shot every time it wore off until he was down to about 30 focus, then I tamed him easy. A note for when you are kiting, stick to circling over the bridge if you go round the back and use the air currents to jump he tends to unaggro you and you have to start all over again

My first attempt at Solix yesterday morning was epic fail. After 2 1/2 hours of attempting to tame, ally's showed up and killed Solix.

No problem. Solix showed up at 10:00pm Server Time (Uther-US), and this time I had reinforcements. I hired a Druid to help me. It was real simple:

1. Laid Ice Trap
2. Let it cool down
3. Backed up and laid another Ice Trap
4. Hit Concussive Shot
5. Ran (Aspect of Cheetah)...however, that wasn't necessary.
6. Turned around and Solix was being ROOTED by the DRUID!
7. His Concussive Shot about 2 more times (never moved..as Druid kept him there).
8. When Solix's energy was at 50% mode, I hit TAME (no potions or deterrence).
9. I watched tame channeling bar finish up.
10. Solix is now mine!
11. I tipped the Druid nicely and he was very happy -- and so was I.
*Note: Spawn timer was 16 hours between the two spawns.

Solix was the LAST tame for me -- I have now tamed ALL of the beasts (spirit, non-spirit, spiders, etc). Now, ready for the next set of whatever Blizzard has in mind. I really enjoyed the various challenges. Would have liked more variety in skins -- but I bet the next set will be even better and more challenging.

Tonight was a great night for taming rares....when I went to Firelands all of the spiders were up and I was the only hunter there! When it came time for Solix I had a mage friend help and apparently if u slow him too many times he will die before your tame is completed.....him and Cinderflame I did not get (cinder glitched and dcd lol)...so be careful when kiting him bc he will kill himself :-/

Spawned right in front of me at 2:54 am server time on The Forgotten Coast! I was camping for a good 3 hours or so til I saw his head poke up from the lava :). I immediately asked my husband to come to the molten front, he has some spell that slows you down (I'm bad with names).

I met him at the entrance to the cave, walked down, walked on the right pathway to Solix. I launched ice trap in the blue glyph, turned on cheetah, and ran, all the while my hubby slowing it down, and I turned around a few times for CS, when I saw its focus bar get to 50% I was screaming STOP, I launched ice trap, got aggro, and was far away but not too far so I popped tame :D

Could of easily solo'ed but it's late and I didn't wanna spend 30 minutes failing then that ONE chance getting it right haha. 13 hours or so earlier my friend had tamed him, or was it 11 or 12 hours? Either way I ended up with 3 rare spiders and Skarr in one day.

I died 17 times while trying to tame this spider. I watched a few videos, and they all seemed to look easy, but if you do not know how to kite, it can be quite difficult. Always strafe (Q and E) and use Aspect of the Hawk.

I had found this little bugger playing in the lava, my friend hunter had just entered firelands daily area, and me being frost Dk was gunna kite him to show him it/maybe he could tame it. But as soon as I saw debuff go off, like 5 seconds later or so the spider just died :[ Being frost Dk is easy to kite if you are speced into permafrost, I kept shackling him in one spot, move a bit and shackle. I recomend bringing frost DK to help tame this cool spider

Tamed Solix at about 1145am ET on Earthern Ring Server. Just keep putting CS on him and try to get him to run over your ice trap. Very small hit box. Took me at least 10 tires to get him tamed! But, I got it! :D /cheer Good Luck to all hunters.

Just tamed on Whisperwind at 23:39, with the help of a fellow ally hunter, who had seen that he had spawned. He had tamed him before so I had an inside track. The other hunter advised me to use Aspect of the Cheetah, Concussive shot, and ice trap, and he would alternate running behind and using trap launcher. Once the buff dropped off I turned and tamed. I'm very grateful he was there to help, as I only died twice. Hopefully karma smiles on him too :)

Nailed this spider on my third attempt after doing a go-round with no Skarr.

You don't just need Freezing Traps. Kiting him around and spamming Concussive shot should work fine. I used Aspect of the Cheetah.

Set down a slick, concussive shot, and run around until he's under 50 energy.

No ninja'ing on this one. I am satisfied.

Ok guys theres 1 easy way to tame this guy and Deth'Tilac, basicly what you need to do is kite him around in a circle or something and send your pet in to die, itl kill your pet and lose an immense amount of HP in the process, do this by reviving and dismissing your pet several times and he will be low enough, dont sit there and DPS the boss down lol. Very easy tame. Someone linked a video on Youtube. Watched it, went there and tamed him on the first try. Was at 80% health when taming was over. Kite him with CS and throw down ice traps when you can.

Once his energy hits 30...start the tame. It's over fast and he's yours.

Found him on my lock doing dailies at 5:00am so noone else was around. Good luck to all getting him! Just watch the video and its not tough at all once you see it.

Just tamed this little bad boy... It was rather easy, he didn't get over the edge of the molten lava so he stayed in it. I didn't need the druid that was with me, well, maybe it was more for moral support. :D

I don't know if anyone has said so but I had to spam the tame spell A LOT before he finally gave in and let me tame him. Oh joy, he's bloody awesome! :D

Spawns in the far right lava pool if you are facing the back of the cave in Ingenious Depths, Molten Front.

Has a huge speed/haste buff so will kill somebody very quick if not kited. Must be kited for around 20-30 secs to lose the buff it has and become tamable.

If the energy drops to 0 it will die, so something to watch out for.

Imo a rather disappointing "challenge" tame compared to Deth'tilac (only other one I have done).

All you have to do is place a frost trap and keep up concussive shot until his buff drops. When the buff drops you will get an announcement on your screen.

Just like Death'tilac (and I assume the other spiders) this mob is vulnerable to all roots and slows. So I used a spider pet to root him in place while I made distance and kited with concussive shot for around 20 secs. Entrapment would make this even easier.

Just solo tamed this beauty. The only thing I used was concussive shot to slow him down until his energy bar got to 50%. Then I just started taming without any traps or anything. Got me down to 45% but quite easy. If you are properly geared, all you need to do is concussive shot him down to 50% energy and start taming him from there.

The day after i tamed Skarr i thought i would try my luck with this baby so i went to his spawn point and waited. About three days later of on and off play i see he is up and rush over to him. I am the only hunter around so i was confident i could tame him.
However i still rushed, afraid another hunter would turn up and i died. Upon quickly running back to my corpse i see a worgen hunter attempting the tame so i wait patiently to see if they fail. Solix was down to 30 energy and i knew i had lost the tame so i simply watched. To my horror the other hunter didn't stop and killed Solix, looted the tear and ran off. I couldn't believe it, i had seen other classes kill a rare pet and not care, but a hunter?
I logged on to my Nelf druid and asked him why he killed it. He responded by saying he didn't know Solix died when he ran out of energry and didn't care much for the pet anyway. Annoyed as i was i understood it was a mistake and told him to look up information next time.
So advice if you are going after any of the new pets, read up on them first if you don't want to fail and annoy other hunters.

Tamed him yesterday. It was so easy once I figured out that he needed to drop the Burst of Speed buff. I had a guildie assist. Druid roots him immediately after agroing him with cuncussion shot. Kept hitting him with CS, and Druid rooted him again. Halfway through the second roots the bufff dropped off and I was able to tame without issue. Easy day.

Just tamed him on Argent Dawn US as beast master. Was a very easy tame. Just kept kiting him with concussive shot and frost traps with cheetah up. I even screwed up my deterrence tame and got hit a few times but his damage wasnt too bad once the buffs are off. Nice looking spider.

Took me forever, but I finally got him. After several failed attempts I gave up on laying the frost traps, jerk skirted right around them every time! Finally just used trap launcher to set one right in front of him, stood on the hill behind him and just spammed concussive shot while running like a bat out of hell. Popped deterrence and tame beast. Skarr, Kirix, and Solix down, 7 to go.

Tamed on Kil'Jaeden-US this morning at 4:50am Server Time (PST). I woke up in a panic thinking that I was late for work, however I had forgotten that clocks rolled back an hour... I had been hunting Deth'tilac and decided to log on.

No other hunters were on for any competition, however this one is a pretty simple kite and tame. Started off with a concussive shot and kited. I don't believe that entrapment had any effect, I was still a little groggy when I made the tame.

i tried taming him only to die, came here and read about the ice trap and concussive shot, so i put trap down, run up the ramp target solix and hit concussive shot, run my ass around and around keeping up concussive shot, i get him down low on energy 20-30 can't remember now, i turn around to hit tame, hit tame and then a pali kills it. like HELLO did you not see me standing/running/dieing trying to tame him for the last 30 minutes.

it's like yesterday, someone nice enough to ask if anyone wants Ban'thalos, me an someone else say yes, head over there and the other person beat me there first, so i sit an wait to watch her tame him. she sends me a tell saying i can have it her friend isn't showing or had some problem or other with his hunter. so i'm like sweet, i get on tree after afew atemps, fall like an idiot b/c i hit the directional keys. get back up there do it again, just as i fly straight up dismount and throw an arrow at the bird, someone else swoops in to tame b4 my arrow hits allowing him to tame it fully. People really need to learn this word called respect.

Just tamed him on Dawnbringer at 11:35 Realm time (Around 40 minutes after Anthriss was tamed by an Undead hunter; and around 30 minutes after Deth'tilac was tamed by another hunter)

He can be tamed w/o the use of a freezing trap or the Glyph of Concussive, the only thing I used to tame him was Concussive shot and a Haste potion at the end.

What I did was went behind him and than shot him, he won't turn around and scale the wall to get to you; he'll go out from the front; so this gives you enough time to get enough distance away from him; and spam concussive shot whenever he's close or its off cooldown, running in a circle around his spawn point (this may not work if he spawns in a different lava pool) by doing this I was able to keep a fair enough distance away from him; while at the same time being close enough to spam the shot; also if he seems to be getting a little bit too close for comfort; try disengaging the rest of the way down the path. Had to do this method twice because he punted me backwards and disrupted my tame; and his energy was dangerously low - so I Feigned to save him.

The second time around his energy was at around 40 when the buff came off; I popped the haste potion and started the tame; thankfully it worked fast enough that he didn't interrupt my tame and I got a new buddy :)

ALSO! I was not on the Rune quest while doing so, I had just finished it; because the mobs were beating the crap outta me.

(And a big thank-you to the Druids and Hunter that were questing in the cave - for not being asshats and trying to grief me while I was trying to get him! )

The talk of runes might confuse some people- do NOT try to do this until you've turned in the quest. You NEED aspect of the cheetah for this and if elementals are spawning you're not going to be able to use it. Turn the quest in first so they stop spawning, then go back for him. He'll still be there, and you won't have a dozen mobs serving you up as his dinner. Very easy to tame at that point, can just take a couple tries if you run the wrong way or turn too tightly as concussive shot wears off. I didn't even need to use deterrence.

11/24/11~coilfang~hollyridd~~spider was killed. i was helping my friend, Salerinis, get the spider when after we dicovered that he had too many pets because he had just caught skarr, the cat. The spider did run out of its resource and died, after that i went over to get my priceless crystal...

got him a few days ago, on my hunter named "Solix" in his honor cause i thought he was the hardest to tame out of all the spiders, since i have all 10 rares on my other hunter.
-very easy to tame actually, drop 1 ice trap, and have concussive shot glyphed. (wished i knew that on my other hunter)
-he's also easy to spot with him being in cave, just make sure there's no other hunters near, if trying to tame.

I couldnt tame him till i started Concussive Shotting him (ConS). (no glyphies)

My tries in November and October were foiled by IDIOTS. Yes you know who you are.

Killed him once for not paying attention.

1) Placed an ice trap AND snaketrap on the center rune. (Snakes help to DPS him to low energy and take aggro.)
2) ConS pull and RUN.
3) FD (Feign Death)
4) Let snakes finish DYING.
5) ConS when done with 4.
6) Repeat Step 1 while running.
7) he should be low enough nao. TAME.

Tamed Solix at 12:13pm on Hjal... all i did was lay donw an ice trap and concussive shot him and used aspect of cheetah to keep ahead, then once his buff wore off i turned around and tamed him...easy sauce!

The traps don't work . Solix brushes past those like they are not even there. you cannot outrun him . 3 deaths and 131 gold repair bill , i finally got him , thanks to a Druid friend of mine who came to help me . He kept Rooting him, slowing him down so I could run around until Solix's buff timed out , then he was mine .You want him easy ? Bring your friendly neighborhood Druid :)

Was doing the quest inside the cave and notice why my pet died so fast. Look back and this huge guy was chasing me. Ran out of the cave and he reset. Tame him with ease. Only took two ice trap and five CS.

Tamed him earlier today on Silvermoon. The good thing about Molten Front is that it's starting to become a ghost-town, so it's all the better for us hunters. Here's a few things you need to know.
1.) He's located in the Igneous Depths. A shallow cave below the Widow's Clutch.
2.) If you aren't one of us (A hunter) DO NOT KILL THIS BEAUTY! He's a great looking spider, and karma's a pain in the ass.
3.) ALWAYS keep CS up. If he still has his buff from taking a bath in lava, and CS isn't up, he's coming at you like greased lightning.
4.) His hit box is SMALL. When you lay your traps, keep them close to the wall, and to stick the walls yourself when you can.
5.) Note this is NOT a DPS race. You dont need to DPS him down, only to get his energy down below 30. When he loses his buff from his lava bath, he starts to lose energy.
6.) DO NOT LET HIS ENERGY DROP TO ZERO, OR HE DIES.
7.) As soon as he hits 30 energy or so, start taming. At around 25 energy left or so for me, he hit me twice for about 30k damage a piece. Easily livable if you're over 100k health.
8.) Enjoy your new unique spider :D
9.) SEND THOSE SCREENIES!

So looking over the more recent comments, I tried n failed at this for an hour. Even tamed Karkin just to see if anything else was up while i tried to de-stress myself. Finally i decided too much effort was given and I WILL tame the damn thing.

How it was done: got behind him so he would have a further distance to run, laid ice & snake traps, used cheetah, concussive shot spammed while i ran in a circle around his lava pool. Barely made a full circle when his energy lowered enough to tame. Very easy.

Was helping a friend get this, she died after being hit by him a few times so I aggro'd him and didn't touch anything but my heals, I was just auto-hitting him. He died, because his energy got down to 0, which happens very very easily. I don't know how to keep his energy up while I wait for her to rez and start taming. Does anyone know?

This is exactly what I did:
I used trap launcher for a freeze trap and a snake trap. I placed them a few steps apart (one after another), in the path he’ll travel toward me. After placing the traps, I tagged him with concussive shot. You do not need to be close, just keep in range of the shot. Doing these 3 steps will slow him down ridiculously, but constantly hit him with concussive shot which will bring his power down around 60%. No other shot is needed. Also this method helps those who are not use to walking backwards or kiting which will help you gain distance.

Keep hitting him with concussive shot. Once he hits the snake trap, place another freeze trap and snake trap a few steps apart (no trap launcher needed) and step back and tame. It may look like you’re far but the tame will reach. The second set of traps will slow him down so much that he won’t be able to get to you. By the time he hits the snake trap, you should have yourself a new pet.

No buffs needed or special gear. You don’t need any help to obtain. It should take you less than 10 minutes. I’m sure any path will work, but I went to the right of the flame rune (place the traps between the two runes). As you’re walking backwards, set the second set of traps after the flame rune. If you’re unsure, I suggest do a practice run. Also I was in survival spec to increase the duration and range of my traps. I didn’t feel like the traps worked well when I was in BM spec (but that is my opinion and based off my experience). Good Luck!

Thanks too deadlyslob. He made a video which helped out tremendously. For people who are new to the game world or may not have much experience kiting then you should definitely watch his video. I thought the idea was to get his life down but it’s to get his "power" down instead. If it's 100%, then he'll "one shot" you, but the lower you get it, the easier it will be to tame him. However, don’t get him too low or else he’ll die. I tamed him when he was between 30%-50% of power left.

Took me three tries. I used snake trap right near the edge of the lava pool, and ice trap on the bridge... then ran to the top of the ramp "behind" him. Opened with concussive shot. He came out, hit the snake trap, spent a few seconds on them... then hit the ice trap, which slowed him for a bit... then I hit him with CS again and just kited him in a circle around the lava pool you find him in. He didn't get within striking distance of me until the tame was nearly complete. Piece of cake! Enjoy your new pet!

Note: Keep Solix within range at all times. Not only is this important/necessary for you to re-apply Concussive Shot, if you run too far out, Solix resets. I found out after some overzealous Disengaging and wind-current-leaping. His buff disappeared, he reset and ran back to his pool :|.

Once his buff is off, it's okay to tame him at close range, especially if you're an 85 with nice gear. He started hitting me half a second into my tame and I came out with plenty of health left.

Well, took me all of 3 tries, had to get the hang of it, but seriously not difficult to tame. Ice trap, put concussive as my number 1 key, then just ran sideways spammin 1 n ice traps til he hit like 50 energy n the buffs dropped, when they drop pop CS then get max range n drop ice trap n tame. very simple tame. Also, my hunters a fresh 85, and i had no haste buffs, 103k hp. Good luck everyone! :D
Just remember to kite him in a triangle pattern between the 3 runes starting at his spawn, runes arent really needed to tame, theyre just helpful if you're unlucky with the little fireballs~

Ok this is super easy after all. I died a few times before looking up hints, so here it is:

Hit him with concussive shot, do laps around the room doing nothing but jump shots to re-apply concussive. You'll see his energy slowly diminish (the bar below his health) until he's a plain old elite spider. He smacked me once or twice when he caght up as I was taming but it didn't interrupt or anything. Too easy.

Turn off your auto shoot.

After being killed 6 times by Solix, I finally know learn the way to keep myself alive. The way is mentioned in comments already. However, just when I'm ready to press the tame button, I find Solix shoot to dead by my auto-shoot..... I'm too excited and occupied on staying away from Solix and forget that I'm hurting it.

So, remember to turn off your auto shoot in the encounter.

Solix is crazy to tame, but definitely not the worst of the molten front spiders. You need to set a trap right in front of him then run as far away as your ranged distance allows and concussive shot him. Run again, concussive shot, run. Keep shooting him with concussive shot every single time it is up and running until it is up again. You'll need to do this until his blazing speed debuff is gone, then you can tame him. I tamed him by running after the last concussive shot and then I was a bit away from him when I began the tame so it took him a few seconds to get to me. I have 111k health and he got me down to approximately 20% before the tame spawn was up doing this. Also, a cool thing to note, when he is first summoned he is the original size you see him as in Molten Front and then he shrinks down! Very cool.

I tamed Solix on Garona Server around 10pm Server time 4/27/2012. Sure enough Solix and Anthriss share a spawn time. When Solix is up so is Anthriss. Since I already have Anthriss, I just went ahead to Solix.

So when I got there (me a human hunter), there were no one else there at all. My Pally friend is ever with me and ready for heals and buffs. As I was buffing up and setting up a Tauren hunter showed up. I decided that I needed to tag him first. Wrong move I ended up dying immediately as I was not prepared. I have watched all the videos on how to tame this mob.

Armed with the same knowledge I set my bar up to shoot concusive shot all the time. I couldnt figure out how to not auto shoot. So I was doing damage the whole time. Definitely need to learn how to run side ways. I tried zooming out on my Vaio F laptop but it doesn't zoom out all the way. I ended up using my Pally friend's computer to tame this beast. This desktop is a Dell XPS and being able to zoom out further makes running sideways a lot easier. I just kite him around the circle. The freezing trap didnt seem to have any effect but the concusive shot does.

Once I got him to about 30% the speed buff disappears and I started taming him. My Pally friend keeps the heals up just in case. But Solix never got a chance to hit me at all. I named this new pet Solix as it really wasnt all that rare as this is the 2nd time I came across him.

Just tamed on my server. Sadly in 4.3 all the "Amazing" rare hyjal spawns, aspecialy the firelands spiders are just flooding the place, I had no competition as I slowly moved from spider to spider, learning how to tame each with around 20-30 death, and I have most already. So if your a hunter looking for one of does sexy "hot" (laughing at my own joke :S) spiders, its your lucky patch :D

I was helping another hunter that was already there that kept dying but after the 3rd time I asked if i could take a shot and got on the it first try.

just kept hitting ConS as soon as it was up and just did the kite game around the circular path in the cave until the buff wore off then hit tame.

Quite possibly the easiest tame out of all the rares, "IF" you use a single Snake Trap at the beginning and have glyphed Concussive Shot. Upon entering the cave, take a right at the first blue rune and head to the second. There is a small opening to the lava pool slightly ahead and to your left. Drop a Snake Trap in the mouth, and then backup to max range of Concussive Shot (as of 5 minutes ago, Solix is immune to Frost/Freezing trap). With the glyphed Concussive Shot, you are able to backpedal while spamming Concussive Shot until the debuff falls off (I recommend setting Solix as your focus so that you can keep a better eye on it). Then, pop your Deterrence/Tame Beast maco - he hit me twice for 22076 and 20661, but I finished my tame and now have all 10 "challenge' tames. Happy hunting!

Just tamed Solix on Khadger. Thanks for all the tips and hints I died too many times until I got the jump and shoot down pat. I tried the ice trap but as stated before the hit box is to small for this to really work. I just did the Cshot and ran the triangle from him, down around and across the bridge.

Just my two cents.
I tried to tame Solix just after the release of patch 5.0.4 . I had a lot of trouble and then read through these pages.Well, whatever I did I kept on dying. I am not the handiest player but I have tamed all other spiders on the Molten front. Something seemed to be wrong. Now I dont know wether it was just a bug on the day but from what I saw that day and a few days after this is my experience.

- He just walked through my concussive shot and didnt slow down. The ice trap still seems to slow him down.
- He seems now to be immune to dk chains wich is a good thing

Anyway after a while I tried the Dethilac taming method where you sacrifice spider pets one by one. This eventually worked, so everyone having trouble with the other method can try this.

Preparation: glyph of deterence, glyph of tame beast, glyph aspect of cheetah,highest possible healing pot, petabandonmacro, tame 5 abandonable spiders they are nearby. The spiders do there web wrap automatically on Solix for 5 seconds giving you plenty of time to run and get the next one.

Important is that dismiss pet takes two seconds while standing still while the abandonpetmacro can be done on the run followed by summon new pet also on the run.
So that is much quicker and gives much better changes.
Be in aspect of the cheetah

The idea is to have one pet ready on assist mode when you approach Solix. You can pull him with any shot, turn and run. He will come out and your spider will apply his web. Then after about six seconds (get the feel) you hit the petabandonmacro and summon a new one (you cannot summon a new pet if you have a dead one lying around). You do not have to turn around while doing this. The next spider will apply his web giving yo time to run.
Run the circle in the cave and watch his energy bar closely. If you see the buff fall off face him and hit your taming button.

For the actual taming I use the macro:

/use mythical healing potion
/cast exhilaration
/cast deterrence
/cast tame beast

Many times this will be an overheal but in some cases if you got hurt you start the taming healed up.

One more thing: IF THE BUFF drops off you may get a anxiety rush after so many failures and turn and start taming straightaway. REMEMBER YOU MUST first abandon the last pet before you start taming. DO NOT FORGET THIS.

This method really works.

Not sure if anyone had posted this, but every time I come across him, while he's bathing in the lava pool, there are arcs of...energy...one might say, coming off of him...

While as a warlock, I can easily avoid him, though the noob inside me had no idea who Solix was and while I attacked him, I found myself dead on the floor...

And if you happen to be doing the quests in the Igneous Depths, pay attention to where the shadows of the falling rocks are coming from. If you have a shadow in front of you or several feet in front of you, just take the damage that the mobs deal you instead of being tossed into the lava lake.

I've lost track of the times I got tossed in the Solix's pool and one-shotted.

At level 90 this is an incredibly easy tame. I was able to kite for about 20 seconds using nothing but Concussive Shot, then when his energy fell below 50 and his buff dropped I tamed him and added him to my collection. Now taming Kirix is a completely different experience, even at 90.

Just tamed him. He was difficult at 85. I had a hard time kiting him. I laid down an ice trap then a snake trap, then kited him around once, then laid an ice trap directly across from the first one. Kept hitting him with concussive shot in between also. Finally his buff went away but my CD for freezing trap was still going. So I took a couple of big hits but managed to tame him.

I tried taming this guy about a dozen times last night after accidentally killing Deth'tilac. Several times he evaded, several times (more than several really) he killed me, then eventually as I got the hang of kiting him using concussive shot and ice trap, I was in the position to tame him, but his energy reached zero.

me = double fail (BUT I did get to see what I was dealing with both times)

So just now I returned, reglyphed to glyph of tame beast so help with the taming. So I repeated the concussive shot and ice trap, died several times. The last time, I got him to 50 energy and was far enough away to tame so I put an ice trap just in front of me and started taming... he got right on top of me and almost seemed to bug out. I did end up taming him, but I dont know if it was a bug or he had paused to strike at me or what. Being level 90 helps as you can take a couple blows... I just dinged the night before so I'm in all greens.

OK how is he tameable? He evades all my Concussive shots and just runs though ice traps like they where not even there ? Level 90 hunter here have done this 30 times today same results nothing slows him down at all he just runs up on me and eats me alive at least with almost 400K health i can take a few seconds beating! I tamed this fella a few days ago now. Firstly I had to grind through the Hyjal quests (yes, I went to Vash'ir), and at about 04:00 server time I finally arrived in the cave this spider lurks in. Sadly, he wasn't there, so I was afraid I'd have to do a lot of camping in order to secure this pet.

Luckily that wasn't the case; as I logged in the following day (about 15:00 server time), this bugger chilled in the fountain of lava right where I expected him too. Taming him was also easier than I thought; Aspect of the Cheetah and concussive shot is all you need. Keep the slow on him and don't stop running until he's below 40 energy. During the taming process I only lost about 70k health to him.

btw; the glyph that reduces taming duration helps a lot.

Not overly hard to tame as a level 89 hunter. Lay an Ice Trap, then Concussive Shot him around a circle until his energy drops to 50 or so. Probably would have been a lot easier if I hadn't been hit by flying lava that knocked me into a pool the first time, but them's the breaks.

Just got Solix early this morning (7:00 AM) after a few days of regularly checking if he would appear. At my level 90 Hunter it took several tries and multiple deaths, and mostly because I'm really bad at kiting. You have to be careful not to kill Solix either because it can be over in a blink of the eye.

Died 4 times and had to feign death a few times. Spammed concussion shot (slow traps don't work well as he can walk over them) and got him eventually when I was about to die again, in a last ditch effport I just started to spam Tame Pet and with just a few points of health left Solix finally joined me.

Phew...that was close. Without the glyph that shortens taming with 4 seconds I wouldn't have made it.

Just one shot him by accident trying to tame him with my lvl 96 orc hunter, I guess the moral is always remove the 640 crafted gear before you begin kiting :(

Just tamed him. The first time I one shot him so now I kept shooting him with tranquilizing shots so he wouldn't start evading and then just hit tame when his energy was under 50. He doesn't do any damage when you're lvl 100.

ARGH, From the comments I assumed he was like Deth'tilac and was hard to DPS down and then the whole thing with his "power" meter or whatever. Nope, went in with a barrage to hit him hard and get him on my trap and..................that was enough to kill him. Been looking for him for WEEKS.

THIS: helped me a lot. I didn't realize that s(he) runs on energy, NOT health. As a lvl 102, I had been taking off all my weapon & armor and was still punching it to death. Otherwise I would one-shot it. haven't tried the advice yet, but it looks like if you can kite it around for long enough, it's energy (and buff) will drop low enough for the tame.

FINALLY got this mother after IDK how many tries! Just realize that it's not able to hurt you; then kite it around & do Binding Shot to lower its energy until the buff wears off so you can tame. Easy peasy.

For those still wondering how to tame this pet with the newest patch and being at least 100 without killing it here is what I just did to tame mine. After reading here it has to chase you but every time I tried it would reset then while watching it beat on me saw the bar go down I thought to myself maybe this is a way to try.

I hit tame beast to get its attention first then being 100 I sat back and let it beat on me keeping eye on the energy bar and finger on tame beast so as soon as the buff went off I was able to hit it. As it beat on me watching the bar before I knew it the bar was low enough to tame so I hit tame beast now Solix is mine along with the other four Molten Front spiders all were a pain at first to figure out how to tame but once learned at 100 they are all super easy.

Well, since I had trouble finding information on this guy, I thought I would share what I've found for those who don't know.

As of 2018:

Solix, and the other rare lava spiders spawn in Molten Front. Molten Front is a zone found through a portal in Mount Hyjal. To be able to click on the portal and get into Molten Front, you need to complete a series of quests at the Sanctuary of Malorne in Mt. Hyjal. As part of the series, you will get a quest to obtain 20 Marks of the World Tree. These marks are the currency used to buy various things in the Molten Front. Once you complete enough dailies to get 20 marks, you will open up the portal into Molten Front.

Yay! You got inside! Now you will be given more quests and dailies, through which you will gather more Marks of the World Tree. You will also get a new quest to obtain 150 marks for Malfurion.

Important: Solix and the other rare lava spiders, along with some other named mobs in Molten Front will NOT show up for you to tame until you have obtained 150 Marks of the World Tree and completed the associated quest for those 150 marks.

This is what I have learned so far, please feel free to comment with anything I've missed and I will edit. I have not yet finished the 150 marks quest, so I can't comment on how to go about the actual taming process.

Just tamed on Stormrage 10:20pm ET. Had to kite around his little spawn pool until speed buff disappeared, then it was an easy tame. :) Super happy to have this awesome spider!

He's gone back to the way he was when patch 4.2.0 was released so this is good, adds a little challenge to the tame.

But it's simple enough, attempt to tame, kite him around the pool you find him in with concussive shot until you get his energy, not health to around 20%.
He will then lose his buff preventing you from taming, hit Aspect of the Turtle and tame.

The spiders in Molten Front have been wrecking me lately--I can only take a few hits; have they been seriously buffed? Concussive shot/trap strategy as in Cataclysm doesn't seem to work on them most of the time, especially Solix, who just brushes it off. Tried the kiting strategy, died repeatedly. Other strategies?

Tamed Solix today... I laid out a tar trap along the first corner and started the encounter by sending in Loque to gain aggro. Right as Loque was about to die, I healed up to full health and applied "Concussive Shot". Solix killed off Loque and aggroed Harkoa and I reapplied "Concussive Shot" and started kiting him around his little cave. I resurrected Loque and sent him in again, applying "Concussive Shot" a third time. As Loque went down, I used "Aspect of the Cheetah" to run out of melee range. I popped "Aspect of the Turtle" and began to tame. Solix was mine right before his focus drained away. Happy huntress yet again! <3

This was a way easier tame than I was preparing for. No need for traps, or sacrificing pets. All I did was kite him around a bit using Concussive Shot, until his energy (yes Energy, not Health) was low, then he moves way slower. Then pop Tame beast, and it was done. (as of July 18, 2020)

You DO NOT need all this crazy stuff to tame him.

I shot him with CS.
I cast Spirit of Cheetah. When that ran out I Disengaged (with the run speed). I used CS shot again. I waited for him to be tameable as I ran around. When he was. I used CS again and tamed him.

That's it.
That's all.

Stop making this so complicated.
Cereal is awesome.

It did not even take near what I thought it would. 1st attempt, used CS (DO NOT DO THIS), killed him deader than dead, one shot with way overkill. Commenced 6 hour camp and worked on my second Lost Emberspit. Went back in, he was there, unequipped my weapon. All armor on, NO WEAPON. Used my red rider air rifle to tag him, stood there, awww crap here he comes. Commenced running laps with him wailing on my back all the way around his lava pool twice. Of 11420 health, only lost 6 health (11414 when I tamed him) with him wailing on my back and me running and screaming the whole time. Lap 2 he slowed down, the tame button lit up, spun around, started Beserking, popped turtle shell, tamed. BOOM. done. Been working this rare for years now, this was not to bad. RR air rifle, tag him and run circles around his lava pool. When he slows down, spin around and tame him.

I'm level 53 and I followed what everyone was saying. Took me 3 times to tame him. 1st one I did the CS and thought some other toon killed him. 2nd time I tried it again and the CS actually killed him. 3rd time I just started taming him and just waited for his buffs to wear off and was able to tame him easily.

I just stood in the fire protection rune and waited for it to be able to tame.

In the cave, in a lava pool.
Easy to tame as a level 70. Do a first tame (that will fail due to a buff on it) then let it attack you until his energy goes below 50. When the buff drops, just tame it again.

Solix is extremely easy to tame. Just keep hitting tame until it tames him. That's it. No need for traps or anything crazy. Just hit tame over and over until he tames. :)
