Stage One: Nuisances, Nuisances!

Lord Rhyolith ignores players while his armor is intact, but they can attack his feet to control his movement.

Obsidian Armor – Lord Rhyolith awakens encrusted in a thick coat of Obsidian Armor, which reduces all damage he takes by 80%. Lord Rhyolith's Obsidian Armor is reduced by 10% every time he steps on an active volcano.
In Heroic Difficulty when Lord Rhyolith steps on an Active Volcano, 5 Liquid Obsidian creatures spawn around him.
- Liquid Obsidian – The Liquid Obsidian moves towards Lord Rhyolith, and casts Fuse when it reaches him.
  - Fuse – The Liquid Obsidian fuses with Lord Rhyolith, increasing his damage reduction by 1%.
Concussive Stomp – Lord Rhyolith smashes the ground, inflicting 32375 to 37625 Fire damage to all players. Each stomp creates two to three volcanoes.
Volcano – Lord Rhyolith ignites a Volcano, causing it to inflict 3000 Fire damage to 3 players every 2 sec. When struck, the player takes 5% additional Fire damage for 15 sec. This effect stacks up to 20 times.
In 25 player raids, the Volcano inflicts damage on 6 players.
Crater – Lord Rhyolith creates a crater when he steps on an active volcano. Occasionally, Lord Rhyolith causes streams of lava to flow from a crater. The moving stream of lava inflicts 50000 Fire damage to any player in its path.
After 10 sec. the stream of lava erupts, inflicting 100000 Fire damage to any player standing within a lava stream.
Thermal Ignition – Lord Rhyolith releases a jet of cinders, inflicting 3750 Fire damage to players within 0 yards and creates either 5 Fragments of Rhyolith or 1 Spark of Rhyolith.
- Fragment of Rhyolith – Fragments of Rhyolith have low health. If not slain within 30 sec, they inflict damage equal to their current health to a random player.
  In 25 person raids, they deal damage equal to half their current health to a random player.
- Spark of Rhyolith – Sparks of Rhyolith inflicts (2.2% of Spell power) Fire damage to all players within 12 yards.
  - Infernal Rage – Sparks of Rhyolith increase their damage dealt by 10% and damage taken by 10% every 5 seconds. This effect stacks up to 20 times.
Drink Magma – If Lord Rhyolith reaches the edge of his plateau, he drinks from the liquid magma and inflicts 8750 Fire damage every second on all players for 4 sec.

Stage Two: Now you will BURN!

When Lord Rhyolith reaches 25% remaining health, his Obsidian armor shatters. He becomes attackable and no longer ignores players.

The unique feature of this fight is what most people refer to as 'Driving'.

You control the boss by attacking one of his two legs, each target-able. Keeping an equal DPS on both legs will cause him to move forward, when one leg has more DPS than the other leg then the boss will turn on whatever leg had the surplus DPS. The main purpose is to 'Drive' the boss into the volcanoes which reduce his damage-reduction buff by 10% per volcano (Until either leg reaches 25% health, triggering Phase 2.).

Tip for tanks with DBM: turn on your range radar and set it to 15 yards. That way you can keep the Spark from hitting your fellow raiders.

The encounter doesn't mention molten armor. Molten armor increases his damage dealt by 2% normal or 5% heroic when he runs over a dormant volcano. The liquid obsidian is heroic only.

His concussive stomp can be avoided by jumping if you are more than 20 yards away from him. If you're closer than 20 yards, he will knock you back no matter if you timed the jump properly or not.

To hard-turn Lord Rhyolith you must have about, maybe a little over 10K dps on the foot you want to hard-turn. Hard-turn meaning a full turn rather then just a slight progression (which btw will inevitably wipe your raid) - since boss starts with 80% damage reduction this is easier said then done.

Also note that it appears that consistent damage trumps cast damage, meaning you want melee on the feet and ranged on the adds. Feral druid is a excellent choice due to Faerie Fire. With 80% damage reduction this does help burn him faster.

Will update you as we progress however those are things our raid found out. Good luck on killing him and keep in mind the last phase is healing intense, so don't go OOM just before burn phase.

The driving mechanic is reminiscent of the Pelagia battle in Shadow of the Colossus, although I will refrain from saying more for those poor souls that haven't played through it -- with the upcoming PS3 re-release, I imagine there will be a few people experiencing it for the first time :D

I just find that horrible, that the most deadly ability is not written by either on Wowhead or in the Journal, so i want to share my experiences with you about this fight on heroic.
Most of the informations are there, but one the "Superheated" is not listed anywhere. After about 4 minutes of the fight, the boss will become Superheated and gains an undispellable 10% damage bonus. Furthermore this bonus will increase in every 10 seconds, thus making the fight a very hard dps race, what can ( and will) result many wipes in P2, because this, the stomp and the laser beams will do so intense damage, that will become unhealable after a while

Our 10 man normal raid found this fight remarkably easier when we drove Rhyolith over every volcano we could steer him towards, Active or Dormant. Cratering the dormant volcanoes helped in two ways:

1) It reduced the number of possible volcanoes Rhyolith could activate, so we never had multiple separate active volcanoes (and their eruption debuffs) up simultaneously.
2) It greatly reduced the clutter on screen and improved visibility.

The downside to this is more craters result in more Magma Flows, but the improved visibility meant they were easier to spot and dodge, and the lack of eruption stacks meant if they did hit they didn't 1-shot us.

After a few attempts at the very end of one raid night, we came back next reset with slightly adjusted tactics. We went from trying with 2 tanks to using 1 tank, positioned at the edge of the platform, with ranged/healers stacking not too far from him (them also being on the edge). We had a rogue and hunter fulltime on the leg(s), and had 2 mages as backup for if we ever needed full turns.
Here's our little guide (and we accidentally threw in the Not an Ambi-Turner as well).

Has anyone experienced some issues where once Rhyo's armor reach 0, and he is still above 25% health, his health is regenerating quite fast?

My group had trouble with that last night and well I'm wondering if it's jsut a bug or actually part of the encounter (didn't seem to happen the first time we downed him). And well, I can't find any information about it at all.

As of 8/16/11, NORMAL MODE ONLY, Causing Rhyolith to step on Active Volcanoes removes 16 stacks of Obsidium Armor. It only takes 5 Volcanoes to drop him to 0 Armor (80 -> 64 -> 48 -> 32 -> 16 -> 0)

pro tip : this works with 2tanks which should be in your standard setup for this raid and i`ll tell you why.

have your off tank pull the fragments of ryolith between his legs where your dps start aoeing them down meaning you succesfully damage the legs to speed up p1 and deal with the adds, do not worry about having an impact on his trajectory since you`ll be aoeing you`ll be hitting both legs and the damage from one cancels out the damage the other meaning you will have no impact on where he moves.

before you start saying " but hey dont we need more dpsers and not tanks for this fight to beat the soft enrage timer of Superheated? " stop and think for a few seconds.
you`ll be losing half the dps that 1 player would deal to 1 leg and you`ll be gaining the dps that 2 or maybe 3 players deal to 2 legs. why half the dps? well cause a tank still can deal some dps to the legs even though he`s in tank spec.

this tactic works miracles on heroic mode where we struggled a lot with beating the superheated soft enrage. we got from him getting superheated at 30% legs health during p1 to him getting superheated at 8% during p2

Superheated happens when you go into Phase 2 or when you hit 6 minutes, whichever comes first.

Also note that Molten Armor is stacked when he walks over a volcano that has previously been stepped on. In Regular, it gives him 2% per stack, Heroic gives 5% per stack.

He starts out as this Lord Rhyolith (the NPC for this page you are now on) with Left Foot and Right Foot.
Then he becomes Lord Rhyolith in phase 2

FOR HEROIC MODE - COMBAT ROGUES

Taken from MMO-Champion:

Normal it might not matter, but having the extra damage to push him to phase 2 quickly as possible before superheated starts to stack is extremely beneficial.

Every little bit of damage counts. We had 2 combat rogues on our kill, and it was still driving just fine with 100% uptime on BF nearly. It's extra extra beneficial soon as he drops to 0% armor and you lust to burn him into phase 2. If you for some reason are having quite a large difficulty with the Obsidium Slimes as well as extra fragments on heroic, and happen to have 3 rogues, 1 of the rogues should be assassination with a point in deadly brew, to help chop the adds down. But. A demo lock would be much better for that.

Anyways, combat's a clear winner in heroic rhyolith.

Edit: For those that don't know, super heated is bugged. It's not supposed to gain 2 stacks every tick unless that's a last minute fix that was intended. Which makes it even more crucial to burn him to 25% fast as possibly hopefully by 4:30 or 4:45 into the fight. You get up to 10+ stacks of superheated in phase 2, you better hope he's at -5%, cause the next stomp is going to gib your whole raid.

Also just doing my own research looking at the highest ranked fights, rogues for this fight on World of Logs it looks like they either have Blade Flurry up the whole time or at least part of the fight.

My questions are: I don't get it what's the point of having it up the whole time on both legs, is it just fluffing numbers or does it actually help getting him down to 25% before superheated? Also is it better to turn it off when you need a hard turn, or just stand far enough from the other leg to where you wouldn't hit it? And if thats the case wouldn't it be better to just go Mut for a better burn phase? Why don't you see any ranked rogues going Mut for this fight?

Heroic Ryo tips:

he becomes superheated at like.. i think its 3 or 4 minutes into the fight so hopefully u get him down to phase 2 before then. U need very solid dps on the legs whenever theres no spark up. the tank can handle most of the tiny adds, we finished our run with me (boomkin) and (spriest and MM hunter on the adds when they clumped. Almost constant dps on the legs with short burst on sparks will help greatly.

Group up ur ranged dps and use aoe heals when they stack (healing rain/ circle/ prayer etc) you will need to conserve mana and any dps that gets hit by a lava line unfortunatly may die quickly to it.

once Ryo is at like 30-40% time warp and burn him down he should switch to phase 2 where the tank must pick him up quickly as he has no aggro table for like half a second.

He shoots lasers around at random members after the first concussive stomp and they appear to work like Alysrazor tornados where they follow one person and not a group.

If Ryo does become superheated he will start burning the raid and kill them very quickly.

Basically focus on adds, dont get hit by lava lines, group up. and use massive dps on the legs whenever theres a spare moment.

Apparently broken in 4.3. Just tried him on heroic and he moved extremely slowly, then when he went into phase 2 he became Friendly and not attackable resulting in a wipe.

EDIT: killed him the second try but the slowness remained.

On the Patch 4.2 Beta he was originally called Lord Anthricyst.

This is probably a reference to the mineral Anthracite. just as his new name Rhyolith is to Rhyolite.

Because people kept mispelling this as "Antichrist" his name was changed.
