Although Kael'thas seemed to have died in his encounter in Tempest Keep: The Eye, upon turning in his Verdant Sphere to A'dal, he appears in Shattrath revealing that he survived thanks to Priestess Delrissa. He is now the final boss of Magisters' Terrace, being kept alive by a crystal etched into his chest. He has taken M'uru, the source of the Blood Knights' power, and is using Anveena to summon his master Kil'jaeden into Azeroth through the Sunwell itself. Players will notice that he is missing one of his three signature verdant spheres, as one was given to A’dal.

Kael'thas drops two epic items on heroic mode unlike other heroic bosses. The Swift White Hawkstrider may also drop in addition to the two epics.

Tactics for the Kael fight in the Magister's Terrace:

Kael'Thas basically has two phases. He starts off by doing mostly melee attacks and the occasional fireball on a random party member. Fire resistance shouldn't be an issue, but anything you've got with you will do basically.

He will spawn a phoenix which should be kited by a ranged class as it does a fire based AoE around him. After a while the phoenix will blow up, dealing massive fire damage and an AoE knockback to anyone within range. Still uncertain about the range on this though. We just stayed a good 40 yards away from it. Once it is dead it leaves a phoenix egg that must be nuked down or else it will be reborn.

At 50% Kael'Thas enters his 2nd phase where he will use Gravity Lapse. Gravity Lapse throws the entire party up in the air and you are free to move as if you were swimming under water. He will also start channeling arcane magic to the entire party ticking for about 350 damage every few seconds. A healer with an AoE heal is much appreciated here. He will also spawn arcane orbs which will deal 2,000 damage if they hit you. Swim around and avoid the orbs and keep dps up on Kael.

Gravity Lapse will eventually end and you will get a few seconds to heal up and deal some damage to Kael before he casts Gravity Lapse again. Stay alive and keep DPS up and he should be down in no time.

From the sound of it, this promises to be a fun fight. I love when Bliz actually decides to make fights interesting with strange new features, such as gravity lapse, rather than just making bosses hit harder and summon more adds.

Normal Instance Strategy:

Kael will cast Fireballs which can be interrupted, whether you do or not doesn't matter much, they don't hit hard.

He summons a Phoenix which moves very slowly. It does a hellfire type effect while moving. It should be aggro'd and kited by someone with range while killing it. The Phoenix explodes on death, stay away. Once it dies it leaves an egg behind, kill that asap.

When Kael reaches 50% he cast a spell called Gravity Lapse. A beam will lift and stay on each party member causing small but steady amounts of damage. A healer with HoT's is best for this. He also spawns arcane orbs which slowly follow people around. If you get too close to them they do a large amount of damage to you. You can continue to damage him during this time in the air. If you go and walk on the ground you will be punted back into the air and not be able to move for a couple of seconds. If you are near an orb at this time it can be fatal.

The best tactic I found for this stage was to have your entire group "swim" to the front of the room where the door is, cast some DoT's/HoT's/Direct Damage spells and when the orbs get close everyone swim to the front and left side of the room, repeat damage. Then move to the back, repeating damage, then to the other side of the room. Always staying ahead of the orbs. By now the Gravity Lapse is over and you have about 10 seconds to DPS Kael hard before he casts the Gravity Lapse again.

All in all an easy fight if your group is paying attention and knows what to do.

Anyone have any idea how well geared you have to be to successfully take down kael'thas in the normal mode dungeon?

The fight is pretty simple, but the phoenix add was quite a surprise when I saw it.

In normal mode it hits like a truck, so you really don't want to leave it alive (It was getting 2k whites and 1.5k AoE ticks on my hunter), but if you choose to, or don't kill the egg, when he sends you up in the air, it will start casting fireballs (4 second cast rather than 3 I think, it took a while), and they hurt. Also, its kind of fun to watch while your flying in the air, because it slowly patrols back and forth in a half circle motion.

It is a very slow mob, so kiting it or killing it are both options (We had a lock on one side and me on the other side of the room just kill it, it doesn't have a super high amount of health, and the egg dies quite fast)

Another thing, Kael'thas WILL kill your pets... I don't know if its a bug or not, but every time he does his gravity lapse my pet dies. All in all pretty simple fight if you avoid the things being thrown at you (While your floating you can cast spells as if you were in water/on land.)

The Emerald that rips through is heart is a Fel Crystal that is providing him the Fel Energy that A) He's addicted to and B) That he requires to live (Since he did get throughly trashed in Outlands.)

Also, I'd like to add that, unless it has been changed recently, Warriors can also spell reflect his Fire attacks back at him in P1.

Kael becomes untankable at 50%. It'd be a good idea for the tank to switch out his weapons and help the group another way once he gets that low.

Warriors can DPS; paladins can help heal; druids can either heal or DPS based on what's needed more.

Just got done doing this fight. It was rather fun.

On a humorous note: My group was a horrible fail pug. At about 25% everyone but me (UA warlock) died. Since all his damage ceased except the aoe damage tick and the orbs, I was able to solo him by drain tanking. We had a pretty good laugh.

Ran into a interesting "issue" with Kael'thas. Not sure if this is intended

First time running it heroic mode, we got to kael no worries, but started off on him a bit slow. He was getting close to 50% when he shielded and next thing we see a pyroblast warning. We were going wtf at that when it hit the tank and one-shotted him for 43k damage..! Same shield spell effect as the Tempest Keep version of Kael.

Next attempt we just zerged him down and there was no pyroblast. Go figure.

If you can avoid this guy's damaging spheres once he hits 50% then you're probably going to do fine.

The phoenix and egg are important to destroy quickly, but he hopefully won't get more than one of those off.

Have done Kael a few times today. He's not too difficult at all.

First up, I haven't done him on heroic - but at least on normal, he doesn't melee very hard, and his fireballs are interruptable. So if you keep the interrupts up, really, you don't need a mainstream tank. The first time we killed him I was the tank (tankadin), and I served little use in phase 2. The second time we had our druid tank do P1 in kitty gear (as bear), and go kitty for P2, and this worked really well.

For phase 2, the aim of the game is to stay alive during gravity lapses. It's all too easy for melee to hit a few orbs trying to dps while in the air, and getting squished, but he goes down like a piece of cake when his lapse ends, so as long as you stay alive while in the air, you'll get your loot. Actually, on the first attempt we were down to a rogue, priest and myself (tank), and after realising that we just had to stay alive we were still able to take him down the last 30%.

So, to sum up - phase 1, interrupt those fireballs, kite that phoenix, win. Phase 2, stay alive, win. I'd imagine the only difference in heroic is to save your cooldowns for the P1 shock barrier + pyro, but I'll try and post after I've tried it out to shed some light.

Killed this guy last night, and boy was he a pain in the arse... Hard to Kill, indeed. Here are some pointers, until a more detailed guide is posted by someone...

Phase 1 -- Standard boss-tanking scenario, though he really doesn't hit very hard. A phoenix will spawn, which procs a steady Hellfire (like the fire elementals in Mech, though without the fire trail) and slowly goes straight for the healer. Have ranged DPS take it down (and slow it, if possible) immediately while tank sticks to boss. Melee DPS should probably stay on boss too, since the Hellfire is pretty damaging. After it explodes upon death (don't be near that!), an Egg will spawn, which should be destroyed to avoid a respawn (it is a phoenix!). Also of note, the Boss will randomly target someone (seems like it was the tank most of the time) with an AoE spell -- simply move out of it, or you'll die. It's hard to miss -- bright orange/pink aura with rotating spheres.

Phase 2a -- At 50% health, Boss "turns the world upside down" (Gravity Lapse). This throws everyone up into the air, applies a steady arcane DoT, and spawns large pink bubbles that result in large damage if you run into them. (It is a good idea to make sure you've killed all Phoenix and Eggs before you DPS him down to 50%, so those guys won't be in the way, though the phoenix do stay on the ground.) You can swim through this stuff like it is water, only at normal movement speed. Have ranged DPS continue to burn the Boss, but mainly, survive and heal is the most important thing to do here. Long casting spells are not ideal, due to the interruption from the DoT. Everyone else simply move around to avoid bubbles and whoever can, apply heals, especially HoT or any instant spells. Do NOT tank boss during this 10-15 second period and do NOT touch the ground! It will throw you up into the air and stun you, at which point you're likely to fall to your death when he stops the Gravity Lapse.

Phase 2b -- This is a period of perhaps 10 seconds, where the boss is stunned and prone to 150% damage. DPS the hell out of him, everyone! Druid tanks, go cat to help DPS him, since he doesn't fight back. If he's still alive after this, he goes back to Phase 2a...wash, rinse, repeat.

We wiped several times. It takes practice. He dropped epic plate boots for us... bah!

I had the opportunity to tank him last night and here are some things to keep in mind:

You can spell reflect his fireball which does decent damage to him and helps hold aggro
You can Shield Bash and interrupt his fireball while spell reflect is down

His melee hits are pretty weak and with Thunder Clap and Demo shout up you should have no problems with the incoming damage if are able to avoid his fireballs with Shield Bash and Spell Reflect as much as possible.

One more fairly important tip is that when he summons the phoenix you may want to move because the AOE fire damage that it does can take your life down pretty quickly so move back for a few seconds while a ranged DPS pulls and kites the phoenix then move back into melee range with Kael after the phoenix is away. You shouldn't lose aggro if you have been spell refelcting his fireballs.

The most important thing to do during gravity lapse is avoid the orbs and don't touch the ground or he will throw you back into the air and damage you. I have roughly 15000 unbuffed HP and can survive the ticks of the gravity lapse very easily as a tank so the healers should concentrate on healing those who have lower HP. The ticks were hitting me for 241 in defensive stance and if the floating orbs hit you they were doing roughly 1800 damage. As the tank during this phase I wasn't doing much just avoiding the orbs and dpsing when I could, but as prot spec that isn't anything to brag about.

When Kael is stunned after a gravity lapse he takes 50% increased damage so blow your cool downs and try and take him down before he casts it again.

Kael has a 10k damage shield on Heroic mode. Cannot be dispelled. His fireballs have lower cast times and he uses them more frequently.

As a pally tank, I had to bubble up right before pyroblast hit and remove the buff asap before he killed the dps.

On heroic mode he will bubble and start casting pyroblast. All dps must switch to him at this point to burn down the shield and interrupt the cast, or else someone's going to get 1 shot by a 45k pyroblast.

Ran through a small bug on him, was drinking a super mana potion the moment he threw us all in the air, I ended up stuck on the ground while all my allies thrown up, I then got a hit similar to the one in TK and died :(

Did this today with a pug group, fun fight really, just make sure you kill the pheonix and the egg fast before going on Kael again, then at gravitry lapse watch out for the orbs, you will swim really fast so it wouldnt be a problem. Gravity lapse hits you for 300 every 3 sec.

Heroic Mode.

Did him as:
Protection Paladin
Retribution Paladin
Restoration Druid
Affliction Warlock
Shadow Priest

He has the same abilities he has in normal and a Pyroblast

All his abilities do much higher dmg in Heroic.

Fireball was hitting Protection Tank for 5000 each.

Flamestrike killed our Retri Pala fast when she got caught in it.

Phoenix does alot of dmg aswell, if it got close to any1 they died in seconds. Can be slowed, Curse of Exhaustion worked well.

He will do a shield and begin to cast a 50.000 dmg pyroblast. The shield must be dps'd down and his Pyroblast interrupted. Our group had no interruption but Divine Shield saved me from the Pyroblast.

He will start Gravity Lapse at 50%, same as in Normal Mode.

Had our Druid, Lock and Retri Pala die at 40%. Killed him from there on with me(Protection Pala) healing and Shadow Priest dps-ing. Once u get to gravity lapse its pretty much over.

Heroic:

Edit: Fireballs are unresistable. Dont worry about the FR, just do regualr tanking

Kael will cast something that looks like a Power Word: Shield, then begin to cast Pyroblast. When you see him start casting it, all dps must stop what their doing and burn through the shield, then interupt the cast with a kick/charge/earthshock (immune to a Priest's Silence).

If you can get him to phase 2 (flying phase) fast enough, then you dont have to worry about the blast.

If you dont burn it down, the blast will hit you for between 40-60k, oneshotting what is most likely your tank. I think it's probably on a timer since we've gotten it 3 of the 5 times we've done the boss, and on the 2 times we didn't get it, we use'd Bloodlust.

Side note, Untankable in phase 2, so switch to dps weapons / Catform and loot his sweet sweet epix

How to kill Kael'thas Sunstrider in Heroic Mode

2 Caster/CC DPS (Mage, Warlock)
1 Melee/Range DPS (Rogue, Hunter)

Kael'thas Abilities
Fireball - Hits for 4k to 5k most of the time, it's his normal attack
Flamestrike - A flamestrike that acts like a bomb, once the flame blows up it will hit players standing on it for 3k to 5k hp, taking periodic damage
Phoenix - A phoenix will spawn and chases player with the highest aggro on it
Shield + Pyro Combo - A shield that has 10k hitpoints is placed on Kael'thas that reflects partial damage, Kael'thas will start casting a 4 second pyroblast that will one shot the target with aggro, dealing 45k to 50k damage
Gravity lapse + 3 orbs - Pulls everyone to Kael'thas and send them swimming in the air, increasing your movement speed but allowing 3 deadly orb to slowly follow a player, instant death if touched for more than 2 seconds because you will get zapped for 2.5k every second. The party also takes 300 damage periodically during gravity lapse

Phoenix Abilities
Passive Flamestrike - A mini flamestrike wherever the phoenix moves, happens every 2-3 seconds and hits for 2k if you are standing on it

How to kill Kael'thas effectively
First off, make sure that your party is buffed up and possibly potted with cheap buffs because DPS is vital. If you have a warlock in the group, get him to put Soulstone on the main tank.

When battle is engaged, Kael'thas will start casting fireballs at the player with the highest aggro, the tank. It can be interrupted and should be to minimise heals required.

A phoenix will spawn shortly after, you will need to get a range class to DPS it heavily to kite the phoenix while slowing it with any slow abilities. After the range class grabs aggro, he kites it around while the group starts to DPS the phoenix down, when it turns into an egg, kill it off.

If you have a druid and priest, get them to cast HoTs on every target frequently because the next part requires heavy healing. If you have a resto shaman, get everyone to stack up before gravity lapse for chain heals, paladin can cast divine shield to lessen heals required.

At around 60%, Kael'thas will activate a shield that has 10k hitpoints and reflects partial damage, doing so, he will begin casting pyroblast. There are multiple strategies to counter this but the straight forward method is to take down the shield with very heavy DPS (About 700 per person), if you feel that he is going to activate his pyro combo soon, get party to load up their bursts and interrupt the pyroblast immediately when the shield is down. Another strategy is to either Divine Shield/ Blessing of Forberence through the pyroblast if you are a prot paladin tank. You can also resurrect back up with Soulstone and rebirth after the Pyro hits. The pyroblast cannot be reflected.

Kael'thas will put you into gravity lapse mode pulling everyone to him, 3 orbs will spawn and follow a player, the party will start taking 300 damage periodically. All you have to do is distance yourself as far as possible away from the orbs and start hitting Kael'thas. When the lapse is over, he will drop you to the ground, you will have a split second to do double DPS on him while he is powerless before he starts to cast gravity lapse again.

Kael'thas will eventually die, you can enjoy your drops now.

TL;DR version

-Interrupt fireballs
-Kite phoenix around and kill it
-HoTs on everyone frequently, same with chain heals
-DPS shield down and interrupt his pyro/ Divine Shield/ Blessing of Forberence through the pyro/ SS or Rebirth through it

This one MIGHT be a bit hard. But really easy dooable if you know how. We didnt bother to read the extremly LONG explanations on how to kill it.. it was just to much to read:P Here is the easy way to explain it:

Phase 1:
Start off with the tank tanking, the rest dps like hell.
When the phoenix comes, all the dpsers change targets to the phoenix, then hit the egg, then do the boss.
Phase 2: After a while, he casts a gravity spell, you will now "swim around" in the air above him, you can still cast spells. Swim around, avoid the energy balls. (Zoom the camera out to the max, place it above your head) Heal when needed.If you have enough dps, you can down him in the first gravity thing.

NOTE:
We actually downed him in the first gravity thing, so we never had the problem with the thing he does on the ground (DOnt remember what it is:P
and his RANDOM fireball wasnt random:P It kept hitting the tank ONLY. Will test this today to check if it is random or not.

Tactial Information:

If you manage to get him into Phase 2 you are able to kill him, as long as you have a healer alive. He will deal no damage but the DoT applied throughout the Gravity Lapse.

I, for example, was able to solo him to death as a holy priest. Just keep yourself topped of, avoid the charged spheres and dps whenever possible.

Note: If anyone dies, they are able to run back into the instance and re-join the fight. As soon as a new gravity lapse starts, all party members will be teleported into the room, no matter were they are in the dungeon. :-)

On heroic, he is pretty tricky. The best tactic I've found is to burn him really really fast (use all trinkets and cooldowns). This is especially doable if you have a hunter who can misdirect for that initial aggro. When the first phoenix comes, zerg it fast, kill the egg, and then go back to intensely burning down Kael'thas. If you have the dps, you will manage to get him below 50% before a. The second phoenix spawns; and b. He pops his shield and casts a pyroblast that one-shots your tank.

Once you are in the air (phase 2), swim around, avoiding the bubbles and relying on your healer to keep you up from the aoe damage that everyone takes. The damage is only 300 per tick so it should be no problem to stay alive, so long as you can avoid the orbs. Do whatever DPS you can, but the trick here is to stay alive. When you land, your trinkets should be up again and you should DPS him as hard as possible (don't waste any time). If he puts you into the air again, just repeat it: stay alive by swimming around, then do hard DPS when you land on the ground again.

Collect or disenchant your epics ;)

In response to archeronx's post: you are correct; his fireballs are not random but are aimed at the person who is highest on the aggro list - which should be the tank ><

While swimming around, it can be hard to keep up any DPS and avoid getting hit. Not every group makeup will be able to get him down in the first gravity lapse, but since he doesn't do anything nasty aside from the orbs, waiting it out and zerging once you land again is fine.

Phase one :

Stay out of fire ,stay away from bird (the bird damages itself each tick - it can be kited) When bird explodes, kill egg to stop bird rebirth.... Nuke Kael to 50% -

Phase two :

Stay off ground, Just Swim around avoiding the orbs, use Hot's Pot's HS's,ranged dps, hybrid tanks help heal (Kael does not need tank in phase two) Every so often Gravity debuff ends for a few seconds THEN NUKE KAEL! (repeat till he's dead)

I recently did this on heroic mode. My group wiped once during magister's terrace due to a bad trash pull. Honestly, i did not find Kael'thas to be much harder on heroic. He summoned one phoenix in all. When he shielded to do his pyro we had the shield down within 1 or 2 seconds and i(a mage) simply counterspell'd him. On gravity lapse he's the same, you just have to not be dumb and move away from the orbs. His shield seemed to have absorbed about 5-6k damage and then dissipated.

Group consisted of

Druid(feral)
Priest(holy)
Hunter(Marks)

The druid did a small amount of off healing but not so much that you cant do this without it.

One small tip for tanks, at his pyroblast and groups with lack of DPS or just incase. What I did:

1. Told a healer to have me topped when Kael starts casting pyro.
2. Used Shield Wall and Last Stand.
3. Used Bulwark of the Ancient Kings (150 stamina, optional). Also you can use some stamina-giving-trinkets or Nightmare Seed if you don't feel confident (don't think you'll need it if you got that far into the instance).

then I received a 10k pyro while having more than 24k hp overall, party even didn't notice that.
Do not "save a cooldown for a better situation" because a pyro starts at around 60% and at 50% you (tank) become useless.

...Well not that useless, if you manage to "aggro" some bubbles letting thus another ppl be more relaxed and continue DPS, remember to execute at 19% (if you get there hehe).

It's not listed under the Heroic drops for Kael'thas, but he can drop the Phoenix Hatchling on both difficulties. I've personally seen it drop in both places. Please add this to the initial boss loot post.

He dropped the enchanting formula for Boar's Speed on normal mode for me the day before yesterday.

The formula was Bind on Pickup, unlike the world drop recipe. Also got Steelweave the same run.

Some tips for low DPS groups for Kael'thas:

Soulstone the tank if you have warlock, because hes usually the one to die on pyroblast. After 50% Kael can be pretty much killed by a healer and any ranged dps.
Finished heroic run where lock and paly killed boss down from about 35%.

As a warrior tank, I found that this fight is very easy if you set up a Shield Bash --> Spell Reflect rotation. You can mitigate/stop most if not all his spell dmg on you by timing this correctly. Once he's into phase two, as others have said, no worries about tanking... just spank him.

I am an extremely well geared warlock that needed to do this place on normal for the heroic key. My group was very under geared and I carried them though most of the instance. When we got to Kael, our tank(a prot pally) couldn't hold aggro for anything and I eventually ended up tanking him after a few failed attempts. One of our dps left and I put on my pvp stam gear and tanked him as if he was capernian/illidan/leotheras. Our prot pally put on healing gear and our other dps (a mage) kited the phoenix around. This was a very unconventional way of fighting him but it works if you have good healers and/or a crappy tank.

Just beat Kael on Heroic!

priest as heal,
druid as tank,
lock, mage, and rogue as dps.

First thing, if you are surrounded by spinning fire, RUN! after 2 seconds you will die, if you do not relocate. Second, dps the first bird down, and then dps the egg even quicker. Continue to dps Kael and he will begin to cast pyroblast. Pyroblast will kill you tank, but dont worry you dont need a tank anymore. Next, with only 4 people, quickly dps the second bird and egg. By now, you should be in antigravity. Simply swim away from Orbs of Death while keeping some dps. Kael will release you from antigravity for 10 sec while he is vulnerable, again no tank is needed because he is vulnerable. Keep repeating antigravity and vulnerable stages with you remaining four players until Kael is DEAD!

i was doing this right now. the group was realy retarded,a rogue(me)shadow priest,druid(full green gear, i mean greens from quests in hellfire)holy priest,and a mage. we wiped 4 times.at the first phase just tank him down,and when he summons the pheonix egg kill it asap, i mean it. in the 2. phase if not killed it will give you dmg while in air. if oyu survive the 1. phase just stay alive

@tanks that are in a group having problems taking down the shield during the pyroblast

If you aren't a pally (you can divine shield yourself to avoid pyroblast, simply click off the buff after it "hits") simply take the pyroblast as close to 50% as possible, while making sure the bird has been killed, as well as the egg that spawns after the bird, you will die, and that's fine, a prot warrior or feral druids dps/heals will be almost useless anyway, so simply die, encourage the 3 dps and healer to continue on and assure them it's easy-mode as long as they stay in LoS of the healer and don't touch the ground or the orbs

The best tactic I found for this stage was to have your entire group "swim" to the front of the room where the door is, cast some DoT's/HoT's/Direct Damage spells and when the orbs get close everyone swim to the front and left side of the room, repeat damage. Then move to the back, repeating damage, then to the other side of the room. Always staying ahead of the orbs. By now the Gravity Lapse is over and you have about 10 seconds to DPS Kael hard before he casts the Gravity Lapse again.

During Phase 2 (50% Health), Kael'Thas can be soloed as a Affliction Warlock. I've done it, in normal difficulty, using that strategy.
To add some more details, be sure to have your Healthstone and Health Potion, as well as your imp out for Dark Pact. As soon as Kael casts Gravity Lapse, 'swim' to the room's entrance, and while doing so throw your instant DoTs. Once there, while you wait for the orbs, cast Unstable Affliction and start to Drain Life. When the orbs get close, swim to one side of the room and then to the back, and then to the other side of the room, and then back to the entrance (while renewing your dots). At each of these four points (entrance, left side, back, right side), be sure to Drain Life (so that Kael's dot doesn't kill you).
Use Dark Pact to recover mana, and if you really need to: use your Potion (yes the potion first), and if you need again use the Healthstone (that way you're be able to heal a 3rd time if the potion's cooldown is already gone. When Kael stops the Gravity Lapse, trinket and start casting Shadow Bolts, and be sure to renew your DoTs, but always keeping an eye on your mana and health (if you need health, Drain Life instead; for mana, Dark Pact)
This doesn't require "great" gear, but just good strategy and be able to keep an eye on your health to not be killed by Kael's DoT.

Just attempted him on heroic difficulty. We could not down him, and stopped after 5 wipes simply because we were done trying to do something useless.

Group makeup:

Prot Warr, T4/Kara, some SSC Gears
Rogue in Kara Epics
Lock in Kara/SSC Epics
Priest in Kara/SSC Epics
Ret Pally in Kara/S1 Glad Epics (Me, and BTW its entirely possible up to here with this group makeup)

His Phoenix is pretty much the same as normal, a little more damage (2k-2300ish) on his aoe, but easily doable by intelligent people (read: not a PUG). His main attack, the Fireballs, went as follows:

-Hit our 15000hps tank for about 5k per
-Was definitely resisted once according to combat logs (Dodged maybe?)
-Can be reflected by a warr/kicked by a rogue
-Cannot be Spell Lock'd by lock pet

After the first Phoenix, he casts Pyroblast, which hits for like 40k+. We tried burning through this "shield" thing that we read about and couldn't. Seems ridiculous that there is a freaking "gear check" requiring T5+ when the epics he drops aren't that level of gear. Also:

-Cannot be Spell Reflected by a warrior
-Cannot be interrupted by Spell Lock, Kick, Shield Bash (at least during shield)
-Cannot be LOS'd. After slowly dragging him over to the left of the stairs and waiting for the pyro, our tank ran behind the wall there and Kael pyroed her through it. Evidently, the laws that apply to everything else in this game don't apply to this pyro.

So evidently Blizzard finally found a way to make everyone really really love paladin tanks; make it so you have to take one into their new dungeon. Or be in T6.

I have noticed that kael seems to drop a plan/patter/recipe of some sort each kill on heroic.. It is BoP but the plan/pattern/recipe was perviously avaible as a BoE..
First kill gotten - Vitaity
Second - healing potion injector

First, thanks to all of comments above with valuable info. We got him in heroic mode last night.

Timing on the pyro is tricky for the tank, but we figured out that sacrifying our tank is ok. Also if we dps hard enough to burn him quickly down to 50% from about 65% when he begins casting pyro, we can avoid pyro at all, but managing threat can be hard in doing so.

After the pyro, he's pretty weak as long as we can dodge those orbs properly (otherwise suffering 2k dmg/sec/orb). We found swimming to the door can buy us more space.

Having said that, this battle is kinda luck based. There were several times he summoned a phoenix right before entering the swiming phase then wiped us.

I've done this two times now on heroic and he is definitely one of my favorite encounters. I've found that if your DPS is really good you wont even see the pyroblast in heroic.

There are two ways that I have found that works with this boss:

1. If your DPS is subpar, it is worth stopping dps 60% and wait for the second phoenix, kill it... kill the egg... then drop him below 50%. You don't want to be in the air when the second phoenix is up, it just becomes another thing to dodge and screws you up when you get the free dps time after the gravity lapse.

2. If your DPS is really strong, I've seen him drop below 50% before he gets a pyroblast or a second phoenix. This is significantly better because it is significantly less to worry about.

In either situation, I have found that the best way to deal with KT when he is gravity lapsing is to have everyone run to the back of the room, wait for the bubbles to float near to you, then sneak around them toward him and do damage to him. The gravity lapses are survival times, not damage times. After the gravity lapse completes he goes into a weakened state and cannot attack back for a few seconds. At this point DPS should be full tilt.

Fire resistance is good, but don't gear for it, its only about 4-5k damage every few seconds and a tank should easily have enough HP to take that if you are this far into the instance. Fire resist aura was enough to toss up a few resists...His melee is weak... ~800-900 on plate.

Just down Kael'thas on Heroic for the first time. We had quite a few problems with him, the worst of which was the Pyroblast. The Pyroblast is not reflectable with a warrior's Spell Reflect. It hits for 40K and therefore is instant death to anyone it hits. The normal way to avoid this is to nuke Kael'thas as fast as possible to get his shield down and then interrupt the spell. We had problems with doing this before time ran out. So, what we did was we had our Warlock put a Soulstone on the tank and made the tank eat the Pyroblast while the ranged DPS handled the Pheonixes. The Pyroblast hit, tank popped and reestablished aggro. Was able to keep the group alive for the second phase. After this it is a easy task of keeping away from the bubbles and DPSing Kael'thas down. The swimming to the entrance and then around the bubbles works very well here.

As tank, this is how i dealed with the Pyro on heroic:

Due to lack of dps, I popped shieldwall and last stand when he started casting his pyroblast.
This way, the pyroblast only hit for 10k. Immediatly after it hit, I used a healthpot, a Healthstone, and one of those Depleted crystal foci from BeM.

Just to add my $.02

On normal difficulty, the group was Bear tank, pally healer, mage, mage, shadow priest (I played mage). I found that just me on phoenix duty was not the best use of the time, because by the time I was trying to kill the egg, we'd be at 50% and Gravity Lapse would make me unable to finish off the egg before hatching.

When the shadow priest and I killed the phoenix and egg, it allowed the both of us to go back to dps on Kael and made the fight cake (using the 'swimming' rotation above).

I have done this a number of times with strong melee groups : 1 tank, 2 melee dps, 1 ranged dps and 1 healer.

The ranged dps should have enough dps to take out the bird and egg solo. When the phoenix spawns DO NOT fully kill him, take him down to about 10% and continue to kite until Kael is on 70% then kill the phoenix and the egg. In this respect a second phoenix wont spawn prior to the 50% gravity phase.

Also Kael is susceptable kick, however he is immune to cheapshot and kidney shot.

In Gravity Phase (2) with a melee heavy group just use your ranged weapons in the air and go all out dps when back on the ground. It should take 2-3 rotations before he is dead.

Rogues can also cloak of shadows through the phoenix's aoe damage and through some of the gravity damage.

The awesome of the awesome! Just killed Kael'Thas! What makes it awesome? Im a Resto Druid, on phase 2 all party had died but me, I solo'd him to 10% then party popped into instance and ported to him to finish him off! Resto Druid FTW! No frap though, happened too quickly >.<

But let it be known, if you have a good running and you die while fight, during phase 2 you will be ported from the entrance of the instance to Kael'Thas' room!

It is possible on normal mode to have a Warlock solo phase 2.
Using spells like Drain Life and Siphon Life heals the player through the damage, while they can DoT and avoid the orbs. They can then use the free time on the floor to nuke or Life Tap.

The only major problem a lot of groups encounter is the fact that they may get a stray pheonix just before the second phase. it's caused many wipes, because the pheonix will cast fireballs which ignore Line of Sight if your party is in the air.

I obviously did not read all those 100 posts before me, but let me say a couple things that i noticed on heroic.

First, a dps+healer is more than enough to kill him in phase 2, not sure an affl warlock could do in solo, but i did coupled with a druid and all went REALLY easy.

The other and maybe more important thing is about his shield. If the warlock in your gruop casts "Curse of Doom" immediately after the pull, it will detonate on the shield, almost deleting it with one shot (with 1000spelldmg my amplified one did 8700 the time i timed it too late, so if timed correctly takes out a large amount of the shield).

Something I thought about after giving this encounter a shot the first time. Since you are "swimming," would a swim speed potion make you move even faster in the second phase? I understand a health pot or mana pot would be better to use in this phase, but I can't help but wonder. If it does work and the game mechanics as if you are in the water, it would be possible to wait untill the last possible second, use the pot, zoom up and accross the room in half the time to get a little more DPS time in. Just more out of curiousity and if anyone has/could try it just for grins and giggles I would be interested in knowing if it has the same mechanics as swimming in water.

Heroic Mode:

Kael will only cast a pyroblast if you don't manage to dps him to 50% quickly. I can't get a clear timer, but we tried it a few times (wipes for testing purposes!) and he definitely never casts a pyroblast if you manage to get him to 50% / P2 about 2-3 minutes after the fight starts. If it takes you longer than those 2-3 minutes he will cast a pyroblast and kill your tank (if it happens *not* to be a paladin).

We did it with T5/6 equipped people (Prot Warrior, Balance Druid, Fire Mage, Enhancement Shaman and me as a Holy Priest). With this equip its probably pretty easy getting him down to 50% in time. I think people who just hit 70 with blue gear will not be able to do it without a pyroblast.

You do NOT need a pally tank for Heroic mode!

DPSing through the shield can be a hella pain in the ass, especially if he drops a Flamestrike right before he does it. But a Warrior can pop Shield Wall and Last Stand and survive.

Of course you can only do this once every 30 mins, so be sure to kill him.

I can confirm this. I even did it on heroic mode as an SL/SL warlock. Dark Pact is not mandatory (of course it helps a lot to avoid having you sacrifice health for mana). Had to use my healthstone when I kept draining a bit too long and an orb came too close, and used a pot and a charged crystal focus later on when my health got a bit too low. You can however easily heal yourself to full by draining when he's weakened. It took a while, but I managed to convince my party that warlocks are overpowered once again.

I'd like to add that this is of course not a main strategy when dealing with Kael. Your party is not supposed to die if they interrupt the pyro, kill the bird/egg and stay alive during gravity lapse, but if your entire party gets killed off and you're the remaining warlock... try it.

a little further adding to the "how Kael lived" saga it turns out if you are in dawnstar village up the ramp of one of the buildings ( the south-westernern most one ) and there is a summoner and a blood knight there they will occasionally go through a scripted event where they say about how Kael actually survived it. apparently the Priestess boss from MgT came along and healed him as he lay there dying, i just found this little bit while i was doing the Taking the Harbour daily quest thought it might be of interest to someone

Some tips for Pallies and mages in Phase 2.

Pally can cast bubble and focus healing on your group members.

Mages can Ice Block to lessen the healing pressure.

Also, If you become Invulnerable(bubble or Ice Block) while the boss is casting Gravity Lapse, you will not be tossed up and will stay on ground instead. By doing so, you will not suffer from the continuing damage, but you still have to dodge the flowing balls when comes out from your bubble or Ice Block. So it's not recommended unless your healer is dead or oom.

For all the warlocks out there, you can make this fight trivial in the heroic version. His shield pops up exactly 60 seconds into the encounter. Curse of Doom right after your tank pulls and your CoD will take care of most, if not all, of his shield, allowing for easy interrupts.

Heroic Mode:

If your tank is a feral druid as it is my case, I just asked a mage to go as close as possible to my agro, and once the Pyroblast was close (about 58% boss hp), he passed my agro.

The pyro should be absorbed by Iceblock, although he wasn't able to do it in time, but you can always use your rezz-in-combat.

We did Priestess Delrissa, the trash before Kael and Kael himself without a tank (on heroic) very easily. Our group build was Holy Priest, Shadow Priest, Mage, Warlock and a Hunter. None of us were beyond T4 gear. For Kael, we just enslaved a Sister of Torment on the trash pull before him (I'm not sure if she's always there), had her tank to 50% and burnt him down fast, probably one of the fastest attempts I've ever seen. So if your tank leaves you for any of the last two boss fights, don't freak out, with the right group makeup (a lock would be mandatory), you don't need them.

Tanked as an Enhancement Shaman on Heroic. Very easy. Just wore PVP gear and his melee was only hitting for around 1000-1100 without a shield on. Fireballs only hit for around 4-5k max.

Just a nifty tidbit of info for anybody that's after the mount like me and ends up tanking the first three bosses on a different character :P

The best and easiest way to kill him is to go with a Rogue as a tank and let the real tank switch to DPS gear as Kael's fireballs are the only real threat.

The good things about it are that the Rogue has cloak of shadows to prevent fireballs from hitting him if he's on low HP and if he is Subtlety he will have 2 evasions(30 seconds of "invulnerability") and this must be enough to put the boss in 2nd phase. Also you shouldn't care about the Pyroblast because the Rogue will just Cheat Death it :)

The bad thing is only that the Rogue must be well-equipped so he can hold agro but if other DPS from the group use threat-reduction abilities it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm a Rogue myself and I've tanked this boss several times and there were no problems with it.

Im actually surprised he still uses normal fire moves. I would have thought that he would use a fel fireball and fel flamestrike since he's with the leigon now and all. He can be tough if your group doesnt know what they are doing. make sure you swim away during the gravity lapse. Resistances do nothing against his fireballs. Make sure you have a paladin because their divine shield can save you from it. Keep your tank well defended and make sure they dont get hit by orbs. A paladin tank is actually a good idea you can save your self a group with one of them. If you have any hunters make sure their pets are on passive for certain parts of this fight (gravity lapse for example) unless you want them running to their death and wasting themselves.

there is a cool way to get rid of that absorbing shield prevents interrputs on pyro.. it will pop up in 1 minute after the combat starts.. so just get a warlock with u to put curse of doom at the exact beginng (amphly if possble) So by the time Kael pops the shield Curse of Doom will deal high amount of damage so either shield will be destroyed (depending on the lock being affliction) or will be weakened, in a very short period of time

This boss is a walk in the park. On herioc, I was a holy paladin healing in PvP S1 gear and we had a protection tank. However the tank DC'd for over 10 minutes and so everyone was just about to give up, but really who gives up at the end boss?

So we got a holy priest in and I slapped on abit more Stamina and I easily kept aggro. With both myself and the priest spam healing me I survived his nukes and i even tanked the pheonixs at the same time. (bubbled on the pyroblast also)

We got him down after the second gravity lapse with everyone alive and the entire party on vent laughing.

So yer, next to the first boss in the dungeon i'd say Kael is the second easiest.

Just took him down about 20 minutes ago on Normal.
Easy as pie.

Setup:
Prot Warrior
Holy Priest
MM Hunter
Frost Mage
Sub Rogue

The whole instance requires good CC. Without it, Fail.

Killed Kael first time with only 2 deaths.
AND it was a PuG.

Just this simple fact is enough to prove he isn't hard at all on Normal.
Have not attemped Heroic yet.
But will do soon :)

Also, confirm most of the Above (Reflect, Inturrupts etc.)

Actually, for heroic mode there is a very funny stategy for warrior tanks.. I had around 16300 hp and i poped shield wall + last stand just before the pyro, so i was able to survive :) try it

After you killed the phoenix also remeber destroy the if, because if you not the phoenix will be reborn.
When Kael make Gravity Lapse try to avoid the mana bubbles, because it can hurt a lot.

Fun fact for all you shaman out there, regardless of spec. A Fire Elemental totem at the beginning of the fight can easily survive to the end, without any heals on it. The entire time you're floating in the air, the totem itself is whacking Kael, I'm not sure why, but it works (The elemental may have recieved heals during the first phase, but not once during Gravity Lapse)

So yeah we did a Heroic mgt and we got to the final boss. I am a lvl 70 resto druid and when we were fighting the last boss my group died at 51% with a Phoenix up. So i thought i was dead so i just moonfire spammed and got him to 50%. Then i ended up soloing him from 51% to 10% then my battle rez got done with its CD. So i Brezed the hunter and me and him killed kael. I used innervate 3 times. It is the easiest but longest fight ever. So even with a Phoenix up u can still solo him.

I've heard a lot of people complain about this fight in heroic as a druid tank, because warriors can last stand + shield wall and pallys can bubble to survive the pyroblast.

This is definitely doable as a druid tank if you have a rogue or a mage in your group and the omen addon.

Basically what you need to do is keep the mage (or rogue) right bellow the tanks threat (within 2-3 thousand), and when he starts to cast pyroblast you have the tank immediately stop building up threat and said mage or rogue burst - this will change his pyroblast target to the rogue or mage who can iceblock or CLoS it.

Mages can avoid the gravity lapse with a well-timed iceblock. Stay on the higher platform near the door, not down the steps, and you avoid getting pulled in, don't get the debuff, and don't get floor damage. You can dps at will without having to worry about swimming around and avoiding any orbs, save for those that stray a little close to the ground.

As a note, the Phoenix that Kael'thas spawns is not immune to fire. I haven't tried this on heroic, but I have on normal. Let me tell you, it's quite amusing to watch a shaman's Fire Elemental fight the Phoenix because the Phoenix cannot hurt the elemental.

As a resto shaman, I always start the fight with fire elemental and then I bloodlust once Kael gets down to about 90%.

Phase 1, especially in heroic mode, is your biggest threat.

Phase 2 is easy mode if people know how to dodge orbs.

A small glitch was discovered by my group today and I would just like to bring attention to it and see if it is repeatable by another group or was it a one time glitch.

The group make up was as follows:

Paladin - Protection
Druid - Balance
Druid - Feral
Warlock - Destruction
Priest - Holy

Mode: Heroic

On the fight when he begins his Gravity Lapse our Priest was wanding Kael'thas and in turn when we all were tossed into the air the Priest was not. He remained on the ground and was not taking periodic damage. He would still be hurt by the bubbles.

We tried this on the subsequent Gravity Lapse's and we were able to recreate it. He was wanding from about the stairs and would start doing it a bit before or as Kael'thas was casting Gravity Lapse.

EDIT: I have tried it again but this time I asked a mage to wand before he started casting. He was able to stay on the ground once but other times he could not do it. I asked him to do it before it was casted and also while it was casted. It worked when he started wanding as Kael'thas was casting Gravity Lapse.

I just ran it in heroic and while I'm not absolutely sure, I think my group DPSed him to stage 2 before he was able to Pyroblast, because I wasn't hit by it at all while tanking. Can someone test this?

If you're having trouble burning down the shield and your warrior tank is dying to the Pyroblast in Heroic Mode, there's 2 ways to go:

-Have your tank Shield Wall the pyroblast. He'll take around 10k dmg, and the 10-15 secs on shield wall will give the healer enough time to top the tank off. If needed, pop Last Stand as well to give more time to the healers.

-Have the group burn down Kael as FAST as possible through the first phase, from 100% to 50%. There's a good chance you'll get him to 50% before he casts the pyroblast, or at least you'll have him close enough so the loss of the tank (who is almost useless on phase 2) won't cause a wipe.

There is a risk on option 2 though: He might actually bring out a phoenix right before he hits 50%, in which case the group will be hard-pressed to kill it during the gravity lapse, so use with caution.

I did this as my PvP spec (ShS) Rogue with Cheat Death. We had a druid tank. Our group was having a little trouble taking down his shield and interrupting him, so we changed our strat up a bit.

I was the one tanking him. And if we could not take down his shield and interrupt him, I would eat his pyroblast via Cheat Death, and then get healed up right away. Worked rather well.

Just a tip if any ShS rogues are in your group and you find yourself having some trouble.

It doesn't matter if the tank dies to the pyroblast. They'll do very little damage during phase 2 anyway, and that phase is tankless. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you could have a high health DPSer tank him assuming your healer is on their game; I'll see if I can get a group to try it.

A holy pally I know soloed him from 30% with Hammer of Wrath. He said it took 15 minutes and 4 mana pots.

A shadow priest's VE is enough to heal through basically all of phase 2. I've beaten the main healer with VE several times on this fight. Mind Flay is also great to slow the Phoenix and half kite it. I think it's fearable too.

Has no one tried to spellsteal his kael's sheild on the heroic fight?

Can't say with complete certainty but i believe it can be stolen, I used spellsteal moments before pyroblast went off and because of gcd didn't have time to counterspell, so it went off. It happened so fast that I can't say 100% that it works but it's very likely. We wiped on that run and the next one we dps'd him harder so he didn't use pyroblast. Our succesfull strat was as follows.

Tank-Warrior Dps - 2 mage and a lock healer priest

Tanks used his spell reflect early in the flight flinging kael's fireballs back at him, after his reflect wore off I counterspelled what i could and he sheild bashed. Our other mage was kiting and killing the phoenix when the egg popped up I dps'd the egg and then we went back to work on kael. Lock was doing straight dps on kael. And the priest used it's dots and hots.

Second phase we did what everyone does dps while we're in the air moved away from the balls had a grand old time.

Completed FLAWLESSLY tonight.
I tanked this as a warrior in Kara/ZA Gear.

Phase 1:
Used spell reflect every time it was up, used shield bash when it wasn't.
Mage kited and killed Phoenix

TANKED the PYROBLAST
Used Last Stand + Shield wall.
The Pyro only hit for 16500 and I had a total of 21000 HP so there was no problem

Phase 2:
G-lapse I was pretty much useless so I intercepted around to take a few hits for others while DPS killed him

I, Amadaun of Hellscream, soloed this at 80 on normal mode, after soloing all of Magister's Terrace up to that point. I was a DK in DPS gear and spec, without the Death Strike Glyph. The entire key to soloing this is phase 1 - namely, avoiding death by phoenix while getting him into phase 2. What I did was hit and run - I beat on him in Frost Presence until he spawned a phoenix, then once the phoenix got on me I started using my defensive cooldowns as I kited the phoenix away and back to him, whittling down his health to 50% and bringing him into p2. The phoenix was still alive at this point, so I smacked it from a distance with IT and Death Coil while dodging orbs and trying not to die to lightning. When it went into an egg, I burned all my offensive cooldowns to destroy it, and from there the fight was easy.

Also - if Army of the Dead is up, the fight is an utter joke. The first time I went to MrT, AotD was on cooldown from Princess. The second time (farming for phoenix pet), I had it available, used it, and was amazed at how easy the fight was. I took no damage in p1 and he went to p2 without casting a single flame strike or phoenix. It was like a cakewalk, except the cake had been stolen from a baby using as many clichés about ease and simplicity as exist in this world.

Below is a logical deduction for the damage requirements to defeat Kael'Thas in Heroic mode (be it solo or in a group):

1. Kael'Thas has 236,120 HP
2. Kael'Thas will cast Pyroblast after 60 seconds
3. Kael'Thas will NOT cast Pyroblast if brought below 50% HP in under 60 seconds.

DPS = ( ( 236,120 / 2 ) / 60 ) ~= 1968

NOTE: This assumes you can survive his damage output.

After 3 wipes, i can say its soloable (not easly) by a Feral Drood on T7.5 tank gear on Heroic Mode.
The trick is to DPS him really hard to 50% (tanked him on kitty form). If u DPS him real fast, he will not have time to cast the pyroblast (40-50k hits were the problem).
If u get him near 50% and he had a chance to summon a phoenix, go bear form, and glyphed-maul + berserk + mangle phoenix to kill it fast and still keep doing damage to Kael (you can enrage/survival instincts/frenzy regen to heal ur self while DPSing in bear). I went Bear because i was already at 40% and Phoenix fire aura was doing lots of damage in Kitty form. Keep doing it until you destroy the egg too.
After that, DPS again kael, and when he reaches 50% you will be up to the air.
Easy phase comes next:
While in the air, go away from him, and heal yourself (if you have low mana pool, keep an eye so u wont drain it and not be able to shapeshift). Watch for orbs. After you heal, go bear to minimize Aura damage he keeps doing and dodgeballz.
When you land, charge him, go kitty, and DPS him. Leave as many DOTs you have. Then he will put you up in the air again. Rinse and repeat. Watch him bleed to death while you are healing yourself in the air.

I found this fight easier than the Priestess. It is the tactics as Gussstavv said above for those ferals attempting to solo him.

One thing i would love to add is that this isnt a tanking boss (because of the pyroblast), so swap out those tank gear u're wearing for some dps ones so that he downs faster. Only pop bear form when u have the phoenix on you or u'll loose way too much dps to down him in time. Use all ur CDs at the start as the second phase is !@#$ easy.

first two bosses are a joke of course, priestess and co i did by leaving a mage-guard alive from one of the groups i cleared in her area, and used the -75 % heal bubble to grind her down. once she was dead, i killed the mortal striking naga, then the fury warrior blood elf, then the engineer, and left the mage for last, i put on frost resist gear just to be able to ignore him till last, not sure if it mattered but it worked.

on kael i was in dps gear, my regular mostly blood tanking spec, and frost presence.

used army of the dead, and was gonna try and rush through to 50 % health. overestimated my dps :P and failed, made a mistake with runes in the fight and died after the 2nd pyro, he did a full hit fireball after that + i had bird after me.

2nd try was better, used just the regular ghoul and focused on always having runes up for the health regain stuff, interrupted almost finished fireballs to slow his dps on me a bit, focused on killing bird and eggs, pyro not a big issue only did 13534 with both of them combined, i used ams + Icebound fort to lessen the dmg from them.

got him past the 50 % by accident with a heart strike on the bird, killed egg quickly as he threw me up and then just flew around icy touching + death coiling while avoiding the bubbles, and dpsed him when he took his breathers.

killed him on the 3rd breather.

overall a fun run aside from the regular bug from princess, didn't get to loot :/

Solo'd as an 80 enh shaman, very easy fight with puppies out and heroism - I had him down below 50% before the pyroblast. The priestess was a much trickier fight - I've only been able to solo her once so far, going to try a couple different strategies to get those buggers down.

ETA - got the mount on 3/3/09, woot! No more H's, just need the pet now =)

After doing some other mount farming as prot (ZG mounts + Attumen) I decided to give H-MgT a whirl. As prot the instance was overall pretty easy (I did die on my first Vexallus attempt as I forget to wait until Forebearance had faded to start, and thus couldn't remove the high stack of arcane charges), but upon reaching KT it was evident that his high magical damage was far too much for my SoL/JoL to counter.

I'm usually holy, so I decided to go back to holy and see how that went, with a "heal through it" approach rather than "survive it" approach. However, failure resulted from a lack of HP, survivability talents and dps.

Decided to give it one last shot as ret - with success. Due to the level difference a fair amount of the fireballs miss, and the extra damage is incredibly helpful. Two phoenixes spawned - upon spawning I opened with a judgement from range, kited for a few secs, than ran in and burst them down with CS, DS and HoW. The eggs die in 1-2 melee swings. KT actually got off a Pyroblast - as I wasn't expecting it I didn't want to risk the shield not going down, so I simply bubbled through it. Probably had about ~15 secs left before a second Pyro would've occured, which would've been a very hairy moment.

As it always has been, the gravity phase was a joke playing it safe. Used the aerial time to heal, and the ground time to knock his socks off.

And of course, after all those respecs neither the pet nor the mount dropped. However, I'm pretty content in knowing that the only pre-Wrath dropped mounts I can't solo now are Anzu (GG druid required) and Al'ar.

Edit: I should also note that I used Seal of Command (for a fight where you have the potential to take such high damage from Fireballs you can't really risk the recoil from SoB), Judgement of Light (manas not nearly as much of an issue as survivability), Blessing of Might (over kings - the extra survivability is too insignificant compared to the lost AP) and Ret Aura (in retrospect FR Aura may have been better - at the time I figured I needed the dps to ensure I pushed KT to phase 2 early enough). My ret set consists of 4/5 T7.5, 1/5 T7 (the helm - too cheap to buy the Titansteel helm for my offset), and a few random Naxx 10/25 pieces - nowhere near BIS, but it'd earn a regular spot in most guilds.

It was called The Pool of Awesome! And at some point in time I was there! Summoning magical fairys to come and help me - Kael'thas Sunstrider - take over the fairy kingdom of Lord of the Rings town! And it was awesome!
But then, one day in october they came.
Jacklanterns, ghosts, skelletons... Oh my! In my haste I ran away, while my fairy princess summoners stayed to fight the battle! But the halloween horrors overcame. And SWISH! SQUASH! Scary things happened! The beasts batteled long and hard. My bretheren sacrificed themselves for the fountain, even they can not overcome the halloween horrors they were. They took over the fountain and relinquished all of my hard work... It was sad and all was lost.
As for me... well, I ran away. But I told my elven friends: "Let us rejoice by going to the next town over and having a huge party!" And we did. So we walked. FAR. About a million miles or two! Through a partet ocean with only nacho bread to cure our hunger. It was really far! But as we neared the end, my people faltered and wanted to end the long tow. I told them I must leave, to find my true place within the world. I leaved with a tear in my eye.
But not long after, batteling HUMUNGUS... things, I found Illidan, my bestest and only good time friend! Besides Mr. Fluffykins. Illidan exepted me into his clan, but suggested that I go and create my own caste and leave him to his own deeds. There I could channel all the fairy energies into one place. And also have a enourmous place to put all of my dolls. And have what I've always wanted: A pet bird! It was cool!
So after a long time the energies allowed me to travel into an interdemensional world, filled with dinosaurs and crackers! But I EXPLODED... and I died. Or so they say, exept for some reason I actually didn't die, it was more like a spirit or something... I-I don't really understand how that works.
Anyway, for my spirit lived on and I perseded to return once again to my fountain of youth and splender, where the fairys would once again come to my aid and the aid of my bretheren... but me moreover.
And so it began again. As my hunt for fairyblood became inevitable, my hunger for magic and all things fun and happy bacame unabaited.
As for me... well, I look like a mess. But I was preaty happy. For once again my Pool of Awesome has returned! And I could finally summon the fairy demon godess, he-who-must-not-be-named. He would bring me my power and make me The King of Awesome! The End!

I tried soloing him as a blood specced tanking death knight and failed multiple times. I finally got him after I took off my tanking gear and put on dps items. My gear isn't that good, it's just things from heroics. Here's what needs to happen:

1. You need to get him to 50% before a second pyroblast.
2. Your army of the dead can't be hit by flame strike.

In phase 2 just try to stay alive. It gets easier the longer phase 2 lasts. If you get desperate for hp, use anti magic shell/icebound fortitude before flying up to him to death strike.

Kael'thas Sunstrider

When the Sunwell was ripped from them, the Blood Elves sought for another source of magical energy. Kael'thas looked to the aid of Illidan, who was being held prisoner by Maeiv Shadowsang in Outland. Kael'thas and his forces defeated Maeiv, and freed Illidan.

Illidan then sought to destroy the Lich King - he had failed before and was forced therefore to flee to Outland. However, Arthas's forces reached Icecrown Citadel at the same time as Illidan's, and Arthas dueled Illidan. Illidan was greatly wounded, and he along with Kael'thas retreated to Outland.

Kael'thas was content for a short while, as Illidan had allowed him to reside in Tempest Keep, where he had a vast amount of power to feed on. But when players defeated Kael'thas in the Eye, this power was torn from him. Kept alive by a gem in his chest thanks to his servant Priestess Delrissa. Seeking for another source of power, he betrayed Illidan and returned to Azeroth, to the Isle of Quel'Danas. There, he is now attempting to summon the demon lord Kil'jaeden through the Sunwell.

Phase 1 - Started with RIP and switched to Bear... when phoenix popped was running away semi kiting him. When phoenix poped an egg, switched to it and burned it down.

Phase 2 - Switch to Cat and burn him down.

The guide above by Gusstavv was very helpfull to me.
Soloed as a level 80 feral druid in ilvl 213 tanker gear on heroic.

Begin in cat form - get 5 combo points and do a rip.
Immediately change to bear form. This will be done just before his first fireball.
DPS him in bear untill the bird is summoned.
Let the bird get into melee range.
Use Berserk and DPS both bird and Kael'Thas.
When the bird dies and the egg is summoned, DPS both the egg and Kael'Thas using your remaining berserk or glyphed Maul.
Keep DPS'ing in bear form to get him below 50%.
After this you have won!

If you have trouble getting him to 50% after the bird has been killed, it might be worth trying to switch to cat form and dps him faster. This way it should also be possible to get his shield down and interrupt a pyroblast, should one come.

Solo'd on heroic as a feral druid. Gear mostly level 213/226 (no Ulduar gear). I went with tanking gear, although some of that includes my dps gear (agi gems), since I don't tank for raids (it's a raid/heroic solo farming spec).

Took me quite a few attempts to get this down. I also searched on google and found this video that helps at least give an idea as to what to do when the arcane bubbles apepar.

Worth noting, Kael's fireball was hitting me for around 5k (says it's fire, but I wasn't resisting it, and tried additional resist gear to no effect). So you need to burn him to 50%. In addition to burning him to stop him from doing heavy damage, you can also out dps his pyroblast. If you didn't berserk the phoenix, berserk attack him when he starts pyroblasting so you can get through his shield and bash.

Start in cat form. Get savage roar up, then rip asap. Personally, once he summons the phoenix, I like to rip again. Then go bear form, pop enrage, frenzy regen, survival instincts, and berserk - go to town. Your maul (if glyphed) and berserk will hit the phoenix, then will hit his egg after he dies. The point of berserking here - in addition to hitting two targets - is to get him to 50% asap. When done this way, I haven't had to deal with a pyroblast.

At 50%, phase 2 (anti-gravity), you're likely to be hurting quite a bit (I generally am) - so I head to the back of the room (as seen in the video) and heal myself along the way. I tend to blow a lot of mana doing this, so I innervate just in case. (Sidenote, I'm talented to spend minimal mana on shifting).

Once he switches to the anti-gravity, the fight is yours. He will no longer fireball or flamestrike. There is damage per tick, but it's minimal. Go cat, and once you have the bubbles lured away, maneuver toward Kael and feral charge - then hop up off the ground (lest it throw you up).

Me (Level 70 Retribution Paladin) and a Discipline Priest (Also level 70) 2-manned Kael'thas after he dropped our group before they managed to get him below 90%, Lol. It was really epic, but fairly easy. I haven't done it yet, but I hope the one in the Eye is harder. xD.

I dont' think anyone has covered somethign of vital importance. Besides the fact that every Heroc in TBC is now soloable....

Does anyone know if the BoP Patters that drop off KT in Heroic mode are now 100% and how many patters will he drop? All patterns in Outland instances are now nearly 100%, had two instance where I had to kill 2 mobs to get the patterns.

If this holds true he should ahve 100% chance to drop AT LEAST one pattern, possible 100% chance to drop every pattern availabe for use by people in the instance, has this yet to be confirmed?

Like others said already, soloable as a feral druid.

Tho i must admit that the whole phase 1 is all about having the dps to bring him to 50% (no big deal) AND beeing lucky on fireball resists. Worst case he will just spam fireballs and wipe you, no matter how good your gear is. Resi gear isnt working aswell, on fireballs and pyroblasts.

I got annoyed by the daily RNG, so i did the following:

- Kill the first three bosses (obvious)
- Kill the trashpack in Kaels room
- Run back to the third boss and look out for a mob called "Sunblade Mage Guard" http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=24683

The mob has an interesting ability called Magic Dampening Field http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=44475#comments and he casts it pretty frequently.
What i did was pulling one Mage Guard all the way to Kaelthas and let him cast that shield on me, resulting in

- Fireballs doing 800-1000 damage instead of the usual 5000
- Pyroblast did only 14.000 instead of 55.000
- Phoenix did close to no damage at all

making the fight a complete cakewalk for any feral druid attempting this fight (guess for other classes aswell, but especially for druids since we dont have anti magic shell or bubbles)

How to do the pull:

Since the mobgroups change from instance to instance, it can be hard to find a Mageguard close to Kaels room. What you can do is to reset the heroic and hope that one of the 2 mob groups contain a mage guard, or leave one of the 4 mob-packs alive, then use shadowmeld if you are a nightelf, get yourself into position and use entangling roots. Now run all the way back to Kaelthas and wait for the mage guard. (If you grab a mage guard not close to Kaels room, remember to clear all packs that could be aggrod in the process).

Charge Kael as soon as the Guard is in 20-30y range. Done!

Solo way for Ferals:

Tac Nr1:
Prepare:
Mark, thorns up.
There is 4 group in the previous room with only 2 mob in the pack, a caster, and a Mage Guard.
Kill the caster, root the mage guard with Nature's grasp. Run to Kael, heal yourself up, start the fight. Most likely the guard will come to you before the pyro, and put down a Bubble that reduces dmg and healing taken by 75%. This way the damage from pyro is ~8-10K. You can easily survive this way till 50%.

Form: Bear till 50%, cat after that.

Tac Nr2

Full dps gear. Start with cat, main the first pyro, go bear, bash the 2nd pyro, pop Berserk when the add comes close, kill the add during berserk. Feral charge the 3rd pyro, go cat again, maim the 4th pyro. You should get to 50% by now. From that, it is easy, just heal up yourself, and don't touch the bubbles. They still hurt.

Note: it took me 49 kill to get the mount, did 20 run with 1st tactic, rest with the 2nd.

GL with your mount farm.

Kael'thas Sunstrider is easily soloable on HC by enhancement shamans (as well as the whole instance). The way i do it is pop Feral Spirits and Earth Elemental in the begining as well as heroism. You're gonna have to switch and kill the phoenix and the egg after and move away from Flame Strike to avoid losing a lot of health. By the time your ferals spirits disappear you should have him down to about 50% at which point he'll start to cast Gravity Lapse. It's best to avoid bubbles and heal yourself. When possible pop your fire elemental and feral spirits again, so when you get cast back up you'd have someone DPSing him. The encounter usually ends after the fourth Gravity Lapse for me. Overall it's pretty easy if you manage to nuke him fast in the begining before the damage starts wearing you down.

Quite Easily soloed by a retadin in somewhat descent 80 gear (naxx25 etc), all you need to watch out is:

1) ALWAYS have sacred shield up - pop all art of war for FoL
2) Blow AW asap before phoenix spawns
3) When phoenix comes out run in front of it and jugde / storm it, DO NOT MELEE IT!
4) P2 is a cakewalk, you need to make P2 before second pyroblast

Its weird, i tried to solo him on heroic with my 80, and i had 120 fire resist to be safe, but it didn't help, i did resist alot of the phoenix's damage, but none of kael's at all, every time a fireball hit, it did full damage, so its likely to assume fire resist doesn't not really help, either that, or you need alot more then 120, which wouldn't make any sense considering he is only level 72.

Moral of the story, fire resist doesn't help you take him down.

Easy soloed as a Unholy DPS DK in good tank gear, using 5.5k heal Death Strikes/Frost Presence.

Ghoul out, Army out, early Gargoyle, he didn't even reach the shield/fireball sequence, he just quickly passed to phase 2 which makes it easymode for DK once again.

Avoid the spheres, shoot ranged spells, dps after gravity, another lapse and he was down in the gutter.

Soloed by a 80 bloodthirst tank warrior. A few key things that I believe helped the fight:

-had about 140 fire resist through gear and drums of the wild (the level 70 epic FR badge stuff). This wasn't to neutralize any of Kaels damage, but it helps with the phoenix's, resisting about half of that incoming damage.

-interrupt or reflect everything you can, obviously. Spell reflects account for a bit of dps, and remember that heroic throw will interrupt as well.

-bloodthirst on cooldown, didn't bother with TC or demo, just keep up your main bloodthirst/dps rotation.

-he WILL cast the 40k pyro twice (i'm not sure how long it takes between cast 1 and cast 2) so you need to make sure that you get him to 50% before he has a chance to cast it again.

-ignore the phoenix, it will destroy itself. go after the egg whenever its up. as per usual, its imperative that there is no phoenix up going into P2.

-after the pyro, last stand+trinket+enraged regen to get back up. don't pot unless you absolutely have to.

-when you get to P2, you will not be near full health, so what I did was pot and then run away from the orbs. if you have any arcane resist (i had the +45 ArR violet badge plus drums of the wild) and the AoE ticks were only hitting for ~40. Once the first gravity lapse was over, i bandaged up and then started up with the bloodthirst rotation, always pulling the orbs as far away so i could get all three swings from bloodthirst on him.

-if you survive the first gravity lapse to bandage you should be set, just again avoid the orbs and bloodthirst when you can.

TL;DR
-resistances are key, get some FR and a bit of ArR
-reflect/interrupt casts
-shield wall for pyroblast, and he WILL cast it twice if you don't dps him down
-make sure no phoenix or egg going into p2
-save pot CD for start of p2 so you can last through the first gravity lapse and bandage once youre on the ground
-gravity lapse damage is a joke with a bit of ArR, but orbs will still own you, so just swim to door and wait out the lapse
-you can switch out your shield for a 2H for p2, shield wall should still be on CD
-p2 will take a while, but slow and steady is better, and you'll probably get another enraged regen if you need it

I did not see this posted anywhere on here but this was very easy for me.

I solo'ed all the other bosses in my feral gear but I kept dying on Kael.. So I switched to my main spec (balance) and just nuked him to 50% and then healed myself up. Be sure to use barkskin for the fireballs.

How to kill as a 80lvl rogue.

I use 2 specs for this:
1st is standart combat build with KS
2nd is - 50 in combat w/o taking KS and up to preparation in subtility. (with CoS and evasion glyphs)

So stealth to the 1st boss and kill mobs in his room using 1st build (KS and BF should be easy).
Respec to 2nd build. Open up with Garrote -> Ghostly strike -> Adrenaline rush -> Evasion and then just dps him until he goes to orb. Continue dpsing, use preparation and again Evasion+CoS when he finished chanelling the orb. GG.

Sleath up to the 2nd boss. Spec to the 1st build. Its a bit tricky and you will need a few wipes to figured out the fight. The idea is simple - gather 2-3 buffs from Pure Energy and then burst him down using Killing Spree and CoS to protect yourself at the last seconds of fight. Use any trinkets increasing AP if you have. (CoS glyph is usefull too).

3rd boss is amazingly easy. Just sap one add, blind another and use Blade Furry , evasions, KS. Same with the pack before Kael.

Kael.
Use 1st mentioned build (combat). Instant poison MH, Deadly OH. Open up garrote, evasion, adrenaline rush and immediatly kick his fireball cast. Continue this way without using Killing Spree and AP trinkets/items. When Phoenix comes slow dps a bit and allow him to come close to you. Then use CoS and Blade Furry and continue dpsing Kael. Phoenix should die simultaneously.
I usually get through 1st phase with full hp or full-1 fireball dmg if im not lucky to resist it.
2nd phase - evade spheres. The goal is to keep Deadly Poisons up all the time, using Shiv asap.
When Kael lands you pop-up trinkets and use KS and Eviscerate (you should have 5 combo points after Shiv).
Should you fail at killing him - use some healing pots and repeat through Gravity Lapse.

ps. need to mention my gs is 5k+ (with 7k+ dps). may be a lot harder with less dps and worse gear.

solod as Hunter in pvp gear, wrathful/relentless and a bear.

Just focussed on pew pew kael and killed ran around the bird, it popped in p2 so I killed hte egg then. Swam in the air away from the balls and pew pew kael. Bear didn't need any mend pet at all.

Just gotta watch for the end of the balls phase, the fall hurt and the arcane damage added to it. The bear stood in his face the whole time. 2 minute fight.

No pet or mount this time but it's just my first run.

I have been grinding rep for Shattered Sun and I've gotten de Phoenix Hatchling on my 4th run I think.

On normal the droprate is pretty high and thus makes this little neat guy more then worth the grind.

I mean, we already @#$%ed him up enough, didn't we? Look at him! He's got a crystal shoved in his chest permanently, for Christ's sake!

Very simple as a SV (and I presume MM and BM) ICC25-geared level-80 Hunter. Just MD and nuke him. I used a Turtle Pet but I'd guess a Wolf would work just as well. I like to save FD for flight phase to get Phoenix summon off myself and onto pet. Make sure you keep moving to stay away from flying orbs.

If you're a hunter having difficulty with this instance, the problem will probably lie on 3rd boss. The way I do them is start from behind near door to next area, drop frost, explosive, and snake trap, MD and nuke the Priestess first, then I just tab target and kill each guy one by one. Use frost trap to kite and should be very simple as they die (I use turtle pet here too).

For first two bosses, I simply nuke Selin Fireheart and Vexallus. If you're having difficulty with Vexallus, try to send pet on some of the orbs, FD as orbs reach you, and use Epic Ammo for added DPS benefits.

So far I've had vanity phoenix pet drop 5x, orb drop 4x (throughout instance). Still working on mount. GL fellow mount farmers.

Just solo'd on heroic as an 80 tank druid in ICC10 level gear, finishing off my Outland Dungeon Hero achievement. Out of all the bosses I faced in each heroic, this was the only one that posed a decent challenge. Still, it isn't too hard to achieve. Stay well away from the orbs when he does the Gravity Lapse, and make sure you destroy the egg as soon as possible when you kill the phoenix, or else the damage will overwhelm you as the bird keeps respawning.

If you do happen to get hit hard by the phoenix or the gravity orbs, then use the gravity lapse phase as a time to heal yourself. The static DoT done during the phase is easy to ignore. I barely attacked him while in the air, but feel free to try to get a couple of attacks in if you can avoid the orbs. Also, I never even noticed the pyroblast casts.

Soloed as a Resto druid (24/0/47) with gear score of 6k wearing almost only pvp items, trick for me was to lend the magic bubble of a mage guard and just go outside of it to heal up(since the mage guard will melee you for 1,5 ~~) and just go inside of it when he casts pyroblast.
Another thing to keep in mind is to make sure you kill the pheonix outside of the bubble since you wont be able to burn down the egg efficiently if its taking 75% less dmg :O

Got him below 50% just before the third pyroblast was about to be thrown.

Insect swarm will most likely be enough to kill the egg and make sure u keep is+mf on kael'thas most of the time, i used a mana pot as well in the end but as long as u survive the first 50% its a win.

i didnt know the fight and had a phoenix up on phase 2 but still i managed to down him

General tips:
1. use some DPS trinekts, tankin trinkets wont be useful unless ur stam is real low
2. fly above him, so u get more time to dps when he drop u
3. if ur undergeared, consider bringing some potions and buffs, like stam buff, king, motw, and possible elixirs or flasks

Phase 1
1. army and run in
2. if your undergeared, go blood presence, he seldom melee so the armor bonus is not that important, you need to take him down to 50% in 1 min or he'll cast pyroblast, its fatal, 42-43k for me in tank spec n presence
3. use death strike to keep urself up
4. take the phoenix down asap since u dont have someone to kite it away from u
5. if ur dps is so low that u couldnt make it to in time, magic shield, icebound fortitude, it'll save u from 2 pyroblasts

Phase 2
1. use IT on CD
2. fly above him, so u get more time to dps when he drop u

*save dark pact for emergency use

Prot Pally:
Phase 1
1. use seal of vengeance, you need to dps to burn thru this phase
2. judge light, just watch ur mana
3. bubble and ardent defender should save u from 2 pyroblasts
4. keep sacred shield up
5. use avenger wrath in the first 10-25 seconds, it gives extra dps + making sure that ur able to bubble when he cast pyroblast

Phase 2
1. seal of light/command, depends if u need the extra health
2. exorcism when ur flying
3. refresh divine plea at any cost
4. remove divine plea before healing urself "IF" divine plea is ready to use
5. fly above him, so u get more time to dps when he drop u
6. taunt him when hes stunned for some extra dps

*save LoH for emergency use

Okay , it was roguh BUT. I finaly managed to solo him.

Lvl 80 prot warr, 5,7k gs according to addon.

Just do as you do in grps , nuke him and phoenix and hope by the light you took his hp down enough to skip the pyroblast. Got killed 5 times by pyroblast when I was 10k from the "p2" part.

p2 part is just like normal , Use shield wall , last stand, enraged regeneration and also a 4set bonus from t10 helps alot . And you should survive.

no mount today tho , but I will get it soon :)

Soloed as an 80 discipline priest, ~6k GS + Nibelung. Not difficult. Pain suppress + PW:S through the pyroblast. Kite the Phoenixes and kill the eggs. The rest is a breeze.

Fairly difficult to solo as a shadow priest, then again it was my first time

Burn him near 50%, refresh dots, re-shield your self, and just mind flay him to death. I used the PVP Health Trinket for Phase two for extra protection. Once you master this encounter it's definitely easier then the Princess.

I was also in an item level average of 245 with 4 piece t10.

If you have something like Nibelung I'd suggest using it because Val'Kyrs help out tremendously in Phase two when you're getting hit like a truck and need to burn the boss before it burns you.

I wouldn't worry about the pyroblast or that crap, if you see him casting it just smack dispersion, he should never have a chance to cast it though, which is good because then you can save dispersion for Phase two

Not a good idea to try and solo it as holy, as you can't cast healing spells in Phase two, which is probably why I wiped a couple times.

For the warriors out there wanting to solo.....

I'm fury/prot almost no ICC gear in either spec.

Did it in normal first in tank spec with 44khp, went very bad. Had a bird go into p2 and as it was my first time I didn't know to avoid the bubbles XD used charge/Intercept to keep going after the bird and died a few sec later. Did some reading on here and came back in went into fury spec/gear nuked him down to p2 with no birds ever spawning... fly around the edge of the room avoiding the orbs until u drop back down ( I used regen while in the air ) nuke again and its over with almost full hp.

As I have found with most lvl 70 heroics the trash leading to the final boss is much harder than the actual boss. Went just as smooth as the first time in normal ( He had no time for birds or pyro )!

If you can make it past the Priestess Delrissa group you can do this guy no problem!

Note: I did use my protection spec/gear to clear all trash as my hp droped too fast in fury. Used fury for all bosses!

Super easy as a Demo lock. The Pyroblast is cast after a certain amount of time, and there's really no way the fight will go that long if you aren't AFK. Make sure to kill the Phoenixes, and get out of the way of the fire.

Easily soloable now, I've done it as Affliction but my demo spec worked much better.

All the trash dies within a three or four seconds from a combination of my felguards Felstorm and hand of guldan. The bosses die very quickly popping Metamorphosis, immolation aura and using the usual demo rotation.
I use my Infernal cooldown for the third boss, the whole party dies almost as quickly as a regular trash pack. KT himself is trivial, there's no need to even bother targetting the phoenix. By the time he casts gravity lapse he's a gonner just from my pets auto attacks and the dots already on him, so I just swim a little way away and /lol.

No-one's talking about prot-spec warriors, so I thought I'd put my two cents in.

I was able to solo him first shot. My gear is ICC 10-25 level. I'd say Corroded Skel Key is pretty much necessary for this.

When he starts casting Pyroblast, a buffed Shield Slam (with Shield Block on), a Revenge and a Heroic Strike/Devastate should be enough to knock down his shield. However, I couldn't do that, and soaked a Pyroblast with Enraged Regen + Last Stand on.

Prot Warriors are now able to solo Kael'thas for the following reasons:

Shield Reflect gives 60 rage on successful reflect, giving you 60 rage every 7 seconds. (His constant fireballing makes this easy)

Heroic Strike is now an instant and can be used for 'burst' damage once he shields up.

And most importantly,

Blood Craze now procs off of normal damage, and it procs off of the Gravity Lapse DoT. I was on really low health during the last phase, but the regen from Blood Craze kept me alive.

Haven't seen a lot from mages either but it wasn't bad to solo the whole thing as a mage, either. As with most other elites, you're going to have to use Mirror Image every fight to tank for you. I did it in Frost for the shield and roots on trash.

1st boss - DPS race.

2nd boss - DPS race - BUT, if you can manage to have 25 stacks of the buff from the eels before him, you do 25% more damage for a few seconds of the fight. Makes the fight a non-issue if you plan it out properly, really.

3rd boss(es) - First time I came in I sheeped Warlord Salaris (warrior) and had my Water Elemental on Yazzai (mage). I suspect there's better ways to do it (if there's any need for CC at all) then burned the rest down one at a time. Subsequent times I found it to be easier if I took out Kagani Nightstrike (rogue) first.

4th boss - DPS race.

Really kind of trivial in ICC gear. If you ever get into trouble, just use Invisibility and try again.

This is now laughably easy to in Cataclysm blues with one or two epics if you are pulling decent DPS.

DBM gave a kill time of 38 seconds for my Destro Warlock, but that includes the 10 seconds of parting words before he actually dies...

I used a Voidwalker to tank and didn't even bother to swim from the bubbles, instead using Sacrifice and Nether Protection while finishing off the last 50%. I finished the fight still over 100k hp so I don't know if I actually got hit by the bubbles or not.

If you weren't able to solo this at the end of Wrath, I suggest giving it another shot.

I don't know if they seriously buffed the drop chance on the mount, but as I was farming Quickening Blade of the Prince for my RP set I got 3 of the Hawkstriders. I used one, kept one in my bank and had fun deleting the other one.

And two orbs. I got nothing on the second run, an orb on the first, an orb on the second and the last three runs provided me with plenty of Hawks.

at lvl85 you can run past most mobs with no aggro. when you get to Kael..go around (don't attack them) his 'entourage' to avoid his long winded speech and just kill him-he goes down before he can even cast the Gravity spell XD.

Takes about 6-7 minutes to run through depending on if you are just running past just about all mobs with exception of killing the bosses to make a few quick gold in vendoring loots.

Ran on heroic and Kael didn't drop much anything useful (no enchant, pet or mount). Ran 3 times on normal and in the same run, he dropped both the phoenix pet and the Cat's swiftness enchant for me. Was hoping for Vitality enchantment..but hey..maybe another time...I'm instance locked out for the hour then will try for Vitality again.

Be sure to use his handy dandy transporting orb for a quick exit, vendor your loots, then run again. :)

Edited: Aug 5th 2011..He dropped the hawk mount for one of my guildies 2 days ago, and a I got the phoenix pet a couple weeks ago..so they are still dropping post 4.2

Edit again..30mins later...Hawkstrider dropped for me. :)

Just soloed him as an 83 Nightelf Fury Warrior the past few days; actually twice on normal and twice on Heroic. Surprisingly he did drop me once (I think my second or third run). Went in with ~77K health and gear in the upper 200s, low 300s (not sure what tier TBH) - a mixture of WoTLK blues, Cata greens and a few TBC / WoTLK epics.

To be honest, I just focused on him and didn't really pay attention to the phoenix. I am pretty sure his fireball is interruptable but I recall it doing more like ~20K or so to me and not 40. Would have to watch more closely next time. What was shocking though was for part two, I was up in the air, landed to hit him for a bit, and he seemed to electrocute me for about 15K a tick (about every second) and so I died very fast that time... went from a lot of health to huh? dead. While I don't think it was all the orbs hitting me, it could've been a combination of things... anyway...

Yeah if you try to use your mouse to hit particular abilities, good luck when you're down by him. You have maybe a second before he hits you into the air again but it's good enough for maybe two or three hits, tops. I just kept hitting him with my bloodthirst, colossus smash, and execute, swimming up and down to repeat. Probably took a lot of unnecessary damage and had to pot a portion of the way thorough but he did finally give his death speech ;).

Dropped some blues and the phoenix pet twice so far. A fun boss and instance!

I don't know if it's the new patch (4.2.2) that did it, but today in Heroic MgT, I charged into KT while still having the pack of trash in front of him on me and partly alive. To my surprise, he didn't do his RP speech at all, and I could just smash him up immediately instead of having to wait for the RP. Saves a little time.

If you're a Kingdom Hearts fan, this guy is voiced by Quinton Flynn, the same guy that voices Axel in KH:II and Axel's original persona, Lea, in KH:BBS.

So whenever you get in that fire fight with Axel in KH:II, think that you're dodging Kael's fireballs. Also note that you fight Axel twice in each game he appears in (KH:CoM and KH:II). A reference to "just being a setback" perhaps?

Sidestep the pack of mobs just before him. Killing them triggers his monologue and with them alive you can go straight into combat. Enjoy a slightly faster mount/pet run! :)

just did this on my 68 ret pally and for some reason instead of floating on the orb phase i was jumping up and down alot, has this phase changed or am i missing something

The drop rate for the Imbued Crystal is very unaccurate since its been added in the revamp of the darkmoon faire, the drop rate is WAY higher then ~~0.2%~~

EDIT: Even though it is 0.3% as of 5.3, the drop rate is still extremely inaccurate

Incredibly easy solo for a 90 BM Hunter, the only phase you need to worry about is the Mind Control Phase, in which you must hide behind a pillar to avoid his MC. I use a spirit beast in which I can spirit mend through the wall, use Kill Command when it pops and just wait for the next phase as your pet beats Kael down. As far as the other phases, you can kill the mobs in any order you want, I don't even bother leaving the main room as there is no need too. I save Stampede for the MC phase as well, and I dps in between MC's for a few seconds, don't overdo it though as he will despawn if he catches you not behind the pillar. Good luck!

Incredibly easy to solo at 90. Just DPS spam and you'll be fine; my fire mage had him downed in about a minute and a half.

He does still drop the Cat's Swiftness as of 5.3 on normal.

Hopefully this helps someone who might be wanting that formula.
