WoWMatrix is slow, weak and totally uncool. Curse Client was super, before you had to pay for a proper update, cuz now its $%^& if u dont have premium curse. ill look forward to this project! :D
Oh boy....A topic I can rant on.Wowmatrix is not dead. It works just fine. And I will continue to use it and will find replacements for the addons that want to be stuck up and not let it do what it is made to do.The only thing we got "GIMPED" on as you put it were ads for sites that most of us don't want to visit and/or will never visit. I could give a care less about actually going to Curse or WowInterface. I try to avoid their sites as much as possible because it is hard as learning another language to find anything useful, much less something you truly want to find.If the addons were shareware and programs like Wowmatrix went around user agreements then I could see the problem. Yet they are not. They are programs that the authors ask for donations for yet do freely because they love the game they are for. Be it Starcraft, EverQuest, Warcraft, or what have you.I had wowmatrix before ever knowing about the sites like curse or wowinterface. I found all my addons using it and keep them up to date using it.Not to mention Wowinterface is blatantly copying what Wowmatrix has already been doing. They should be THANKING Wowmatrix for getting addons out to people who know nothing of their precious sites and would not have addons for their game of choice otherwise. I have gotten many people to even START using addons with Wowmatrix because they thought addons weren't legal. I proceeded to show them otherwise. THANKS WOWMATRIX!If the sites/authors are worried about bandwidth for instance, then make all the programs shareware and charge a fee for their use. I'll be sure NOT to hold my breath waiting for the 11 million players of wow to fork over more money just to use their addons. Anyone for Pirate Sites coming up if that ever happens?Feedback? You got it and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is not happy with these two lone sites wanting to be proprietary over what amounts to freeware when last I checked there was nothing in the programs stating they belong only to Curse.com or Wowinterface.com.
The parts involving the actual updating of addons look promising. However, I'm concerned about the security risks involved in allowing third-party ads.Obviously if "modules" from other sites are allowed to do their own thing with regards to ads, the authors are relinquishing some control over what content their app will be displaying.Being as it's a "block" style ad, and not text ads, we can pretty much be sure that they're going to be graphical. Most likely the application will embed some sort of HTML renderer to make this possible (likely IE on Windows, Webkit on OSX).Will ads be allowed to use Flash? Will scripting be allowed? If either of these is the case, malicious code *will* make its way through this application and onto users' systems. Ad networks aren't vigilant enough about policing their content, and malware gets through. This isn't the app author's fault, but it is something the authors should be aware of, and (IMHO) do whatever they can to allow users to protect themselves.Without paying a fee, will I be able to disable Flash and scripting in ad content? Alternatively, will I be allowed to direct the application to use a proxy server of my choosing. which will strip such content?Note that I'm not really all that concerned about the ads themselves, just the nasty things that have been shown to piggy-back on them. I need to take steps to prevent such things from being a threat to my machines, and I hope other users, as well as the authors feel the same way.
cosmosui.com had something similar for a very long time, so there's nothing new here. Nice anyway though, hope they make it a good one =)
Thanks wowinterface, i was about to break and pay for a premium service on Curse!Cheers!
Now this is what I call a piece of good news!
I don't understand how people can possibly support/use WoW matrix. It's a horrible program, full of exploits, and doesn't respect addon authors or the sites that host addons. It's good to see that this client is finally getting released, it's been in the works for a loooong time! (Contrary to what most of you idiots know, WOWI has been working on a client for a long time.I dislike Curse, a lot. Their site sucks, and the client is full of ads. Personally I'm going to continue using WUU (http://wuu.vagabonds.info/menu.php) because it works on multiple sites at once, and I like the control it gives me over where to look for addons, where to put them, etc.(Thanks for continuing to allow WUU btw, WoWInterface. Curse recently changed their site to block WoWMatrix, which crippled WUU for their site, leaving WOWI as the main source for all my addon updates. There are still about 3-5 addons I have that aren't hosted on WOWI though, which sucks.)Good luck with your client.
Looks great Cairenn, any news about whether any of the other addon sites (Curse primarily) will be making/allowing modules to be made, for their sites? I don't want more than one addon updater, so hopefully most addon sites can unite around Minion.
Wish I could negative vote you..WoWMatrix was nuked weeks ago.
WOWmatrix is dead, WOWinterface client isnt working greatly, curse client is just... cursed so we need something new and fresh that will pwn the living daylights outta the others.
