I feel stupid now, I just posted a thread asking if my server was down or something...
It doesnt annoy me too bad, but for some reason I forget that there is server maintinence when I get a tuesday off, considering the fact that One: I am an early riser, and Two: I am on an EST (or CST, since I live on a timezone line. :X) Though, it does give me a chance to brush up on my Gears2 skills, or any other X-Box LIVE game I'm playing at that time.
Considering that I work all day, and live on the West Coast of NA, I tend to not have a problem, unless the maintenance is extended for a large number of hours, something the wife and I enjoy is eating dinner then getting on the game for a few hours (6-9PM PST) and then going to bed/watching a show. But when I was in college, I scheduled my classes for most of tuesday so i had the majority of the week off from class/labs.
I'm usually working on Tuesdays so it's no big deal for me. There was a day back in November where I had the day off and looking for something to do. I checked WoW only to find out that there was extended mainenance. I was disappointed and must've been grumbling about "stupid extended maintenance" because my wife said something like "well, if you're not busy playing computer games.... " A few weeks later we discovered we were expecting our first child. Thank you extended maintenance!
This time is fine by me, I never really play in the mornings. Mostly, I play on weekend nights and sometimes I play during the week. You would think that people would get used to maintenance and stop complaining, but, hey, that's people for ya.
Overall I think that Blizzard does a good job with maintenance course living in the PDT timezone I really cant say too much :D As always when you really plan for not extended maintenance to play at a certain yeah that can be annoying but whatever. Only valid complaint I have ever heard would be an automatic timezone changer so that say you lived in AEST you would know that 3P.M. PDT is ..... time in AEST or something course it is easy to find one online for you.
I lol'ed at the pic.
As an Australian player, Ive got to say I am not happy with the Maintenance times. The reason being that it starts around 7-8pm on a Tuesday night. This generally means that I cant do ANYTHING on a Tuesday, as the servers will be down by the time I get home. All servers, even the Oceanic servers. At least when Daylight Savings shifts again it will start around the 9pm-10pm mark, and I could cram something in.The least I think they could do would be to do the oceanic realms outside of time, at like 3am our time.
I hate Maintenance SO MUCH and I complain all the time.In Oceanic/Asian time zones we pay the same as everyone else but only a 6 nights a week game. Tuesday is always the most boring night of the week where the only thing is to stay in and play a computer game. Why not make it saturday night! It sucks.
i dont mind it at all, i mean gotta keep this game running and i imagine its a big task, however, whenever a maintenance starts id like for one damn time for it to end when it should. really, i wake up on tuesday around 5:30am as usual and i see the *rolling restarts shouldnt take more than 15 minutes* then i go to school bla bla bla get home and of course as ALWAYS *realms should be up by about 2:30."really.. just ONCE id like for a maintenance to actually solve problems instead of creating them.
I don't think anyone can be surprised by maintenance but what does suck is in Australia it kicks it fairly early into Tuesday night and if they have extended it tends to start even earlier into the evening. I know its unlikely to ever happen but it would be nice if they could change up the time (even if it was only once a month) so that it wasn't always us who get the day off wow. However there are plenty of things to do besides wow so when its down its not the end of the world. Could be worse to eve online that I play has downtime every night at 20:30 for half the year and 21:30 (one is when daylight savings is in effect and one is for when it isn't I don't remember which). So once a week for wow really isn't that bad.
My Post on Warcraft Forums-I live in Asia but don’t speak Chinese so I play on the US/Oceanic Realms, and I pay the same price as everyone else for the game but I only get to play it 6 nights a week, due to Maintenance, as do all English speakers on this side of the world, including Australia. Why Tuesday…. Tuesday night is the most boring night, Friday or Saturday nights would be fine, who is home those nights anyway? Blizz… here’s my idea for maintenance times start then finish. CURRENTLY IT IS- PST---------------------AWST*------------------AEST** 3:00:00 AM-----------6:00 PM--------------4:00:00 PM 11:00:00 AM----------2:00 AM------------12:00:00 AM I SUGGEST- PST---------------------AWST*------------------AEST** 10:00:00 AM----------1:00:00 AM-----------11:00:00 PM 6:00 PM -----------------9:00 AM--------------7:00 AM Figures are approximate and vary due to summer times *Australian Western Standard time and East Asia (Where most of the worlds English speakers live!) ** Australian Eastern Standard time That way everyone is happy and your staff get to work a normal day without being up all night! Think of your staff blizz, the staff! Oh and make it Fridays, I like to go clubbing on Fridays. Thanks
This Australian is quite happy with the maintenance arrangement.I much prefer being able to play until 9pm on a Tuesday night on Malygos (non-Oceanic server). The alternative, for people in the US, is no game play on a Tuesday until 11pm, and then if maintenance gets extended, you may as well just do something else. This means I'm asleep for most of WoW maintenance (given a bedtime of 1:30am, if I'm behaving), and usually I'll take the time on Tuesday to catch up on that lost sleep from the other nights of week. If I was in the US, I'd probably be awake for the whole thing, and that would be quite erksome.I'm just hoping that Diablo III wont have coinciding downtime, depending on how the co-op mode and authentication works.--edit. Typo in main article for end of maintenance time, has given me a silly argument. It should be 11am, which means US folks should be able to play on Tuesday night. It would just be an inconvenience for day players and night workers.
I pity those that QQ about server downtime and those that struggle to find solutions for spending their 6-8 hours out of WoW. If this is the only period when they aren't playing because they are forced to, I pity them... Really.
I don't mind downtime too much, but I hate it when either: A) Maintenance gets extended for 6 hours because something went wrong, or B) You get 8 hours of downtime for a single bugfix (3.1.1a, anyone?)
During the maintenance I'm usually in school, work or just sleeping over it. If the maintenance gets extended I usually play Quake live or Shaiya.
Meh I rather have blizz do what they must to maximize the stability of the game. People that complain really have no grounds to justify the complaint to begin with. Why? Because regardless Blizz will do what Blizz feels they need to do to make sure an insure their product that we as a whole pay for is functioning to standards we require.Besides that running multiple servers takes massive time, and resources to make sure it runs after all you have thousands upon thousands of people logging in everyday from all wakes of countries, imagine how much streamline it takes for one server, and imagine how much raw data one of these servers has to calculate from a high pop an low pop area... Even a system needs a refresher and a quick break. I mean if Blizz has to have some extensive maintenance cause of a glitch or a bug found (remember the mail bug?*cringes*) They rectified it by adding additional free time to paid subscribers.I usually find some other things to do, go fishing, play from my vast collection of other games pc/mac, and consoles, Work in my adobe photo shop cs4 extended, program some ciderized games (extensive mac users know what I'm talking about ;) ) watch anime or movies... Things to that extent is my other time killer lol
