I'm wondering if there's a guild out there with enough hutzpah, coordination, timing and patience to attempt the ultimate WoW challenge.....Default UI raids. No addons. No meters. No advanced unit frames. No timers.I think its the ultimate Heroic mode. Anyone want to start a website with me for the challenge? Man those would be some interesting videos to watch!
I don't use a lot of addons honestly, I find most of the buff bars to be too much of a hassle to configure for the benefit that they are supposed to bring.I use the following:DBMOmen3MikScrollingBattleTextIceHudItemrackRunewatch (for my DK)PhayesPresence (aswell)Sqawk and Awe (A Moonkin really can't go without)and ofcourse ImmersionRP
I raid as a holy paladin. I used grid and clique for a while. In fact, until 3.0. Didn't bother downloading them again. None of the content has been difficult enough to warrant me uglying up my screen with Grid again yet :POther than that I run pretty Vanilla.DBMOmenPally PowerRecountAnd thats it. I dunno, now that I am thinking about Ulduar though I may decide to go download grid+clique again, hmmmm.....
I have always been a fan of perfect raid for raid frames as it is small and light weight while being easier to read then grid. I also like its ability to show only buffs/debuffs that you want shown.I will throw my hat into the Pitbull is amazing I am sad you did not include it camp.
UI:X-PerlCT-mod (buffs and action bars)ArcHudMikScrollingCombatTextDeadly Boss ModsDecursiveGridOmenRecountQuartzTitan PanelSimple Minimap (or whatever it's called)+ a bunch of addons to improve other aspects of the game (Auctioneer, Questhelper etc.)
The minimap addon shown is I believe SexyMap, Inhaler.I'm something of an addon addict.I use Bartender 4 with Button Facade - using the Trinity layout for it, I love the 3D Hexes. Also used:GridStellar Unit Frames (Stuf) is great for low memory usage and is very nice looking.ArcHUD 2 - I have yet to find another HUD that is as sleek.Parrot for scrolling combat text.Cowtip for tooltips.Buffalo is a terrific buff mod.Simple Minimap is lovely too - especially with the Movers feature you can turn on -- lets you move things like the quest timer and quest tracker frames around.DBMOmenRecountMy main is a Shaman and I can't imagine playing without Totem Timers, it is very nice and easy to configure. Helfpul to have all the totems in one bar, the weapon buffs, shields and an ankh timer (optional) in another, and a third bar for Enhance CDs featuring Storm Strike, Earth Shock, and Lava Lash as well as a Maelstrom Weapon bar that fills as you get charges. The only thing I wish is that I could pick which shock was in the Enhance CD bar.OmniCC for spell cooldownsAnother VERY useful addon for me is Timer Buttons, it lets you configure cooldown bars for whatever you like, in my case I use it for Flame Shock to help me time my Lava Bursts.Several folks mentioned OPie -- that looks interesting I think I'll give it a try and see if I can't trim some elements of my UI to make it even more minimalist. One last addon I like is AlarmHUD DPS -- it is a very slim text based DPS meter that tracks your DPS per fight.Anyway -- here's my current UI -- I'd trim som of the buttons and move the chat windows down. :)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v443/pomr/WoW/WiP-MyWoWUI.jpgLiannin80 Shaman - Silver Hand USEDIT: Okay...tried OPie and loved it. It will be a great boon once I get fully used to it. New ultra-slim UI:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v443/pomr/WoW/NewUI-April32009.jpgGrid will is to the left of my unit frame when raiding, Omen and Recount to the right of the target unit frame when opened.
I agree with above comment, atm the only ones i use is event alert and recount.Just got event alert because I'm lazy, and recount, dunno really its fun >.>
Eluneril if u stop again here or someone else can tell me: what addons are you using, and how did u change the configurations, u just moved them around or did u have to do something weird in the configurations settings menu or what? IMO that wasn't messy at all, and I would use such anytime (if my crappy computer has the power to do it :D)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y187/COMMIEjap/0c74a31f.jpgthis is my interface/addons folderI don't feel like counting them, let alone listing them by handnUI isn't actually one I use, but it's there for now anyway
Superb postpersonally, im not a fan of addons, i think having addons is something to make your life easier, indeed, but at the same time makes the challenge of the game quite not what i expect it to, im not interested on spending all my wow hours following an arrow thats going to tell me everything, i prefer to deduct from my genuinity rather than beign a slave of a marker. I think most old school wow players would agree, whereas they didnt had any kind of markers addons etc at that time (because they where beign created) and still they could complete the quests, addons or not.Recently since i got many good references about xperl, i ve decided to try it, disabling most slave features, while i like to have animated char frames i think it will be the only addon ill install in my computer, because its worth and my pc can take on the fps from the animations.and on the other hand, i think the best addon ill ever need to solve my puzzles and troubles ingame is called www.wowhead.com ^^cheers
And precicely because its a calculator. You have to understand the value and the effort of pure play that some people take to overcome challenges rather than letting a green arrow point you, as example: "the super hidden secret location of epic loot HERE"while i agree with you that its an improvement how information is shown to you, its precicely the reason blizzard doesnt even implement it as a part of the game, some people wll rather invest and realize things by their own means than to have your game tell you how/where/when and why to do it, and as i stated before, if i find myself in an endless loophole without results, a quick consult to wowhead will always be welcome, im not denigrating the addons at all i understand that many will rather find a quick answer to their needs rather than spending hours trying to find or decipher a text, thats intangible and thats why things such as wowhead are needed :)
I use a lot more addons than that, if you wish to see mine, take a quick look into the ui form. But I think you should include PitBull, Quartz, and Class timers. Out of all of the addons I will ALWAYS suggest Class timers will make your life easy.
