PTR Status (and Argent Tournament!)
2009/02/23 at 7:48 PM
Dresorull over on the official forums has given us some breaking news about the current status of the PTR.
Check out the info
Okay apparently I'm not as funny as I think I am, so I'm co-opting this post to turn it into an announcement of some information that's
interesting. Apparently the next patch, on top of the addition of our oh-so-heavily-anticipated raid content, is
featuring a brand
new world event
As you may have read on
World of Raids
, the next patch will feature what appears to be a PvP oriented world event, centered around something called the Argent Tournament!
In patch 3.1, a new world event titled “The Argent Tournament” will be coming to Northrend! This tournament will be live on the 3.1 PTR and open for testing, though certain aspects are still in development. Players will find a host of new features here, including:
The ability to prove your worth to a capital city of your choosing through our new mounted combat system (still in development)
New daily quests to construct the great Argent Crusade coliseum for glorious battles to come
All new rewards - new items, titles, banners, tabards, pets, mounts, and more
All new achievements
Many more festivities, and more to come in future content updates!
Players will find the Argent Tournament in Icecrown. Speaking to any Northrend flight master will get you on track to prove your worth to the Argent Crusade, your faction’s leaders, and all denizens of Azeroth!
I'm very excited to hear about this—it's always amazing how Blizzard can keep this info under wraps so well for so long. I can't help but wonder what the lore explanation for this is, though. Is the Argent Crusade really planning to construct a stadium and host the rough equivalent of the Olympic Games on the Lich King's doorstep? Seems a little...off-topic.
No matter what the content, you can be sure we'll be here with the data the second it's released. :)

As for the lore concept, I think it's fairly clear:
- The Argent folks want to prevent all out war between the Horde and Alliance
- Even so, the Horde and Alliance refuse to listen, and their strength is divided in small skirmishes
- Therefore, if they refuse to stop fighting, why not make it constructive? I.e. if the Horde and Alliance are fighting in an arena, there are no actual deaths, and possibly the two sides can come to some accord, or at least respect one another enough to join against Arthas.
Plus, this is basically just a big slap in the face to Arthas, having the tournament right on his doorstep, knowing that if he tries anything, the best of the Horde and Alliance are just waiting there to fight him. If anything, the Argent forces appear to be using us as bait. They obviously don't seem to want to assault Icecrown Citadel directly; Arthas is probably at his most powerful when sitting on the Frozen Throne.

¨¨ the winner of the fight, Will be the only one still standing...¨¨
Would be Ironic wouldnt it ?
