As someone who was really interested in figuring this thing out I personally also would like to thank the group that was involved in figuring out this super cool thing Blizzard gifted us in Legion. I find things like this amazing and what is even more amazing is you all, the ones who put in so much time and effort into trying to help others out. Thank you commenters! We appreciate you!
It was truly an epic thing. Everyone in Dalaran on Hyjal(US) sprung into action and glided to the island to fight him. Crashed the server once and also had my game crash when we all died and released at once. Well done!

6 months ? Blizzard, it took us 7 days.
I can't say I'm not a little bit disappointed it didn't spawn anything having to do with the hippogryph (I've been checking the page all week for theories) but it's SO cool how people figured it out so soon!

On the one hand I love hearing about all these crazy hidden things. On the other I hate that aspects of it are gated behind spawn timers... Everyone'll be doing it now. Effectively everyone, anyway. I hate Poundfist style spawns.
1 hour cooldown on the clickable orbs, seems nigh impossible to complete now.
One thing most people missed that were helping kill the boss is that they weren't even eligible for rewards if they didn't do the orbs. So so many people wasted their time killing it for 2 gold. Many over and over again. When reality is, if you don't have world quest for it, you don't get any actual loot (and you only get that by participating in the orbs).
I love stuff likes this. It adds a real sense of mystery and wonder to the game.

Do you have to do this multiple times if you want him to spawn or its like a server unlock thing?
Anyone know if the orbs can only be clicked by one person when they "spawn"? Or will they stay up for a short while before despawning to allow everyone in the room to get it? Some of these locations are getting very crowded now.

Seems that either the timer is longer then 50min, as i have been sitting at an orb for the past 2+ hours.Or that some of these orbs are bugged.Also as of right now, only one person can click the orb before it despawns, which is a crappy 2008 way of keeping people busy.
Ah well that explains a lot - we saw the emote last night and I immediately looked him up on WoWHead and saw that he was on the actual Eye of Azshara island. I then demon-winged into the sea, barely avoided being fatigue killed, glide-wing-hopped my way to the flight point, then over to the boss. I then spent the next 30 minutes killing him when he spawned... only to get about 2-3g a piece. Nobody understood why he wouldn't drop a mount or pet, and there were a LOT of people around. The "quest chain" explains a lot, I wish I knew that last night. It's great that it's in the game and all, and I wouldn't want it to be a freebie, but tying it to a few orbs in the world that'll be camped until oblivion kind of sucks.That being said, I somehow managed to glide down to the Broken Shore zone and grab the FP on the northern coast, only to be insta-killed by some mysterious force when I got close to the citadel in the middle. There are some mobs roaming around but they're all elite and spread semi far apart.+1 for ingenuity to the WoWHead community, rock on!
