So, what exactly is the new design trying to accomplish? How was the old font a problem? In which way the red buttons improved the usability? How the complete lack of negative space makes anything easier to read?It looks likes you are trying to fix a problem that wasn't even there in the first place.I'm a huge fan of Wowhead, but... you use a 15.4px line-height on a 14px font in some places. On some blue trackers I even found the line height to be the same font size. Everywhere the text is too dense.Just look at this very post. A lot of people are using 2 newlines between paragraphs. Heck, inspecting the HTML of the article, even you guys are doing it. Also, you are using <br> instead of <p>, which really doesn't help. The "Continue Reading" font size is almost as big as the news titles themselves. The blue tweets tabs read: .@CM_Exhil Same goes for Elite PvP gear — Holinka (@holinka) May 22, 2014That's it. Just a wall of plain text, without proper highlighting. Only the links but that's not enough. The tweet content should be separated from everything else. MMO-Champion really nails this one. They use a different color for questions and answers, then the author between brackets, in a different color (they also use only 2 colors, only right).By the way, don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about the news in the front page like it's ok for them to be there. It's not. You used to be Google. Now you are Yahoo or AOL.Keep it simple guys. :)
Please for the love of anything you might hold dear, give us a way to just access the database without all the gaudiness of the new site design. The old front page layout was perfect, I could get to the areas of the site that I wanted to without having to deal with loading up a bunch of nonsense that is either old news to me already because I got it from other sources, or not relevant to why I come to WoWhead in the first place. If you're really fixed on this new design, make WoWhead.com the main page, and have wowhead.com/<relevantgame here> lead to just access to the relevant database search engine like we used to have.PS Video ads are bad. Please stop using them if you want to encourage people to avoid blacklisting your site with adblocker add-ons.
First of all, I greatly appreciate the amount of work, effort, time, and manpower that has gone into the new layout of Wowhead, and I've held my comment for months waiting for any sort of news about the revamp other than this. If there is/ has been an article that I've missed on this subject, I would love to be directed to it. In this advance, I'm only considering the Wowhead main page, nothing more.In the realization that I'm entirely late to the party, I still must inquire - why have a wowhead.com as well as a wowhead.com/news website if they're near enough exactly the same layout? (or at least they are to my wholly art-untrained eye)If this is how things are to be, might the patrons who have stuck with you through these long years (even as lurkers, no doubt!) request a "wowhead.com/search" or "wowhead.com/basic" domain with the older, less cluttered design? Now I'm all for change in regards to aiding the community and supporting your fans, but I just don't agree wholeheartedly with the drastic changes that have taken hold on the main page of the Wowhead site. I much prefer the old "Google" style of doing things, as I see many others do as well. The minimalist design was much more my pace, as it was to my poor computer; I find that it loads the page exponentially slower than before with everything it must account for - the plethora of ads, news stories, events, artwork, etc. These are all things that have been requested in the comments before me, though I still feel should have a chance to be reiterated one last time.I feel as if the main page is attempting to compete with the likes of MMO-Champion or WoW Insider, and that's just not what I've ever come to the wowhead.com domain for. I frequent the wowhead.com/news site for that very reason, and I find that sometimes I'll turn on over to MMO-Champion from time to time, and that's okay. I'd just much rather have that simplistic "Search" text screaming at me in the middle of the page - it was a familiar friend that led me through thousands upon thousands of World of Warcraft journeys, raids, quests, and adventures. I visit the site as often as I ever have, and always will, so long as my WoW account is up and running (which I expect it to be for much, much longer, even if there are a few breaks in between); I simply find that I long for the welcoming Wowhead logo and search box in the middle of my screen every time I open up my browser.TL;DR - "wowhead.com/search" or "wowhead.com/basic" (or any other variation) would be nice in regards to an older style Wowhead main page that I feel a lot of people would greatly welcome back.I'll continue to remain a loyal Wowhead fan and patron, even if I disagree with the change. You all always do such a wonderful job of keeping the WoW community up to date and entertained with your guides, news, and splendid artwork.Thank you for all of your time and dedication.-Kartoffel :]
