The similarities between LFR and Flying are pretty significant. I think in both cases, the devs have a bit of remorse and are going to try to slowly backtrack away from them.One of the devs also just tweeted that despite my guesses to the contrary, LFR will have a higher ilvl than heroic dungeons. Their reasoning for this is that LFR will be gated, so most raiders will be spamming heroic dungeons for a few weeks and raiding for a few weeks before LFR even opens, so even if the ilvl is slightly higher for LFR, anyone who really is raiding will be above that before they feel ´forced´ to run LFR for upgrades.
Are you joking? Timeless island is drastically easier in raid gear. If you take a fresh 90 there in quest greens, even the turtles are very challenging, but in my raid gear, I can farm everything with ease including most of the bosses. Even stuff like those heroes that were part of the 5.1 patch were a breeze in raid gear, yet difficult for fresh 90s.
I think the idea to limit linear layouts is great. While sometimes it's fun to run an entire raid, other times its just boring clearing bosses who aren't going to drop items you don't need/want.
How will scaling back Valor effect players working on the Legendary Cloak questline?
What I really would like to see in terms of gear is different visual for different classes. That's all.
Never really understood why there was gear progression in raids, really.Shouldn't the raid be about being more efficient and effective using what skills and gear you have? So why design a heroic raid boss to hit 20% harder and have 30% more health than a normal-mode raid boss? Just tighten up the mechanics (e.g., "using the same gear you used in the normal-mode raid, you have 10 seconds less to kill the boss before they enrage"), or take away lower-difficulty buffs.
IIRC, LFR in WoD will have a lower iLvL than heroic 5-mans, and won't have a tier bonus. So if you're willing to accept a little lower stats in the short run (as long as you get the iLvL, until you get better gear in raids), you can probably bypass heroic 5-mans.Depending on the minimum iLvL required for the flex raids, of course.
