Animation is a big factor for the female Draenei specifically, so it’s important to keep it in mind when comparing the two. The original female Draenei has some fairly extreme posing that happens when she’s animated. If you were to see the static model of the original without any posing you’d see that it looks very similar to the new one. With her pose applied her shoulders stretch backward, her pelvis rotates forward, and her chin lowers—causing her head to angle downwards. The curvature in her lower back, and why the head shape looks slightly different, are also due to the new model not having the same posing applied yet. She also looks a lot taller! Ultimately all of those things will be addressed when we animate the new model, they just don’t take place until she’s rigged and sent on to the animation team.
We hope you enjoyed this super quick look at where we’re at right now, and we’ll continuing sharing more in-progress art as we go forward. The next article in the Artcraft series we’re planning is a look at the creation of the Spires of Arak, a new zone coming in Warlords of Draenor. Thanks for stopping by!
Senior Character Artist Joe Keller did the majority of the work on this revamp, with direction from our Lead Character Artist Tyson Murphy (@tysmurph), and myself (@artofcgrobinson).
<3I think this video properly conveys my opinion of the model in question.
yeah.....really not want to sound like a #$%^ but the difference is minimum, it's just like seeing it in HD. Draenei female was already the female with the best graphics (cosmetically speaking), I really expected humans or trolls who DO need better graphics to have had the priority in the remodeling list
Ty52: You just gave yourself the answer. Minimal. Since there wasn't a whole lot they had to fix, they got it done quickly. And seeing as the new expansion is about the orcs and draenei those are the priority. Wouldn't be surprised if we see the male draenei soon as well. That way, when the expansion goes live, they don't have to patch over the countless NPCs that will be introduced with the expansion with the new model. The hair could use some more work, still a bit wonky, but looks great otherwise.
They nerfed boob size. :PDowngraded to a C-cup.
@Ty52: As Blizzard have mentioned they're just updating the models enough so it looks a better and more up to date but they're still keeping their original appearance overall. They're also working on the other models, I doubt anything gets priority over the other and that wouldn't matter anyway since it'll all be released at the same time. Maybe they're just revealing the best ones last ;) Can't wait to see female troll!
"Following in quick succession from the Tauren Male Model that we saw last week"Yesterday was last week?
Does no one notice anything wrong with the fact that nearly all female models in the game look like they're about 20, and all male models look like they're about 50? This doesn't seem off or wrong to anyone? It's not like by now people aren't aware that a large portion of the player base is female, shouldn't that have even the tiniest bearing on the sort of fan service they provide? Shouldn't they equalize the amount of fan service per gender of character at least a tiny bit? We female players get nothing to look at.
You can't put that face up next the worgen face and say that the worgen look as good! Gj blizz!
I liked the April 1 version.
Where's your updated modelviewer? Mmmochamp has one, tho it only shows a floating hair.
I don't think I have been more turned on by pixels in all my life.
I wish that they can make the horns less visible in some of the models. Ether with a hair style or making them smaller in general.I know if I had horns I would grind them down to be a little more reasonable instead of standing out more then I do with my foot prints. Some of the horn models make you look like a female Billy Goat or a Mountain Ram your choice.
They got a boob job. Yay.. That's about it!
Wait... Those are horns and not ears?... Whoops.
