I like this idea.I noticed in MoP that the players with more time available or hardcore and the quick leveling came back to 'farm' for materials in the start areas taking away from the players who were questing and gathering at the same time, who can't fly, this was a pain as you go towards an ore node or herb and a 'flyer' drops down and gathers it before you can walk/run/ride or fight your way to it.Be nice not to have to worry about max levels invading start areas to gather out from under you.
Time to show off dem cool ground mounts :p
I collect mounts for the pure joy of their beautiful and often unique design. I've farmed my Ashes of Alar for 10 months on multiple alts to only find out I will be cut off from using it because it only has flying form and I will have to wait for months again to use it? There is a ton of flying mounts that don't have ground form which will be sitted for months and the effort to get them wasted.
Be nice not to have to worry about max levels invading start areas to gather out from under you.But you still will in Azeroth, they're only disallowing flying in Draenor. Also, a level 100 will have much less to worry about from those level 90/91 mobs in the Draenor intro areas than you will as a fresh 90. Not to mention the several classes and race that can just drop aggro completely (mage, rogue, hunter, Nelf) and so only have to worry about riding through mobs to get to that node you're fighting towards.I mostly understand why they're doing this. I'm not thrilled about it, and I really hope they don't actually try to remove flying from the game altogether. Being able to fly does not detract from my ability to appreciate the beauty of the scenery, but it does open up new points of view. For those of you bemoaning the lack of time you spend using your ground mounts, I have a crazy idea: use your ground mounts! You can even do this today, no need to wait for the expansion! *shakes my head*
I like this personally, flying over zones gets very boring over time and I'd like to explore on ground mounts for a while. To the people who are upset about this: Just be glad it is at 6.1 and not 6.2 or 6.3.
Terrible idea I think it will keep a lot of players away. I myself dread the no flying...hated lvling on pandaria without it (mostly once alts came into play) and questing in the no fly areas ugh...comments of a subjective nature claiming your opinion to make a change worse than it will be is bad, and needs to stop. Will people decide not to play a game because of this announcement.. no doubt, the stubborn entitled vocial minority. The game will be better off with this change, and it will be better off without those people in Azeroth.Personally the overwhelming feeling on no flying initially for WoD on the official site, and community sites such as this has been positive. I only hope blizzard don't listen to whining children and change their opinions on this.

ok there is a major difference between having 1 ZONE where you could not use mounts and an entire CONTINENT where you can not fly. Zones i get they are inherently small and usually traversed easily continents are huge and have zones in them and not being to fly through them makes traveling between much more difficult think back to vanilla when you could not fly ANYWHERE and what a pain that was i think they had it right in BC, MOP and Cata and WOTLK to a degree where you have 1 main zone (like a daily hub) where you spend most of your time anyway and make the zones you never visit except occasionally for a raid or world boss fly zones. i get that the use of land mounts has diminished greatly over the years but diminishing the use of flying mounts is not the solution. on the plus side the FPs may finally get some love they have been lonely since BC
I honestly wouldn't mind so much if the made Flight Paths direct, instead of the stupid scenic routes they have us take. Want to go from A to B, great, but we're sending you past Z in order to get there!Never understood why they made them so obnoxious. People who want to see scenery will do it on their flying mount, and everyone else is just going to AFK/alt tab while on the FP so the only argument of "so people see the world" is mute.FPs are the taxis of WoW. Yet taxis in WoW are like taking a taxi to the cinema, and having it drive past all other cinemas in town before dropping you off.

Of all the idiotic decisions Blizzard has ever made this one is by far at the top of the list, in all sincerity I hope this absolutely cripples box sales and subs for the time span between launch and patch 6.1 and that the morons responsible for this are summarily fired and black listed so they never find work in the industry again.Jesus christ, calm down. this isn't even that big of a decision, how dare you wish something so terrible on people just because you disagree with something they do?Just who do you think you are to tell me how to feel about this decision? Do you pay my sub? Do you pay for the expansion packs I buy? I am expressing my extreme dissatisfaction with the decision to ban flying for the first several months of WoD I thought that was what these forums were for.Wishing harm against other people because of a decision made by developers of a video game is pretty pathetic. I believe that is what he was referring to, in case your reading comprehension is lacking.
Jeebus, the amount of hate in these comments is just to dang high!People who are complaining obviously never played games like Skyrim or Guild Wars , or any RPG for that matterIm aware both have fast travel and such, but stillI like having to use my ground mounts the first time around, and hopefully with this item squish, they also tone down XP to level, seeing so much really makes it seem way to long. But hopefully with the way they takin care of quests n such, running around on ground mounts to level shouldnt be a problem. Also take in mind the area isnt the same old boring outlands, its rebuilt from the ground up.I hope "rebuilt Outland" doesn't turn into the same kind of cartoony bullcrap all of Pandaria is.
No flying is no big deal for me, and in fact I hope they add a fairly challenging quest line to learn the new flying skill.I bet if Blizzard disabled the dungeon/raid queue system, and disabled summoning altogether, a lot of players would have absolutely no idea how to even get to the entrance on foot or ground mount, because they never leave their faction's main city. Learning a new map is fun, and don't forget the whole zone will be like Timeless Isle is now. Players will get the opportunity to gear their charters by being out in the world actually fighting mobs. I think that's good for the game.you sir, have all my sympathy
part quote: "or that we just really want people to look at the pretty trees we made, but those really aren't the reasons that drive this same decision we've made every expansion"wow staff made it clear that the reason of removing portals, changing flight paths, etc was for us to see all the content you made..so yeah, it IS a part of the choice(we were also promised a pony, but only get the achievement in the DMF)ever since BC it was implemented this way, just get to lv 70-80-90 so i can buy the flying for the expansion. but .. i will hit lv 100 and my reward will be thrown to the ground .. ? :((quote again: "it completely removes the ability for us to pace or present content in any structured way(A), and in general removes our ability to determine how and when players approach a situation(B), see a vista or location(B)"(A)i have ran since lv 1 to 90 all over pandaria (getting killed easy) and enjoyed every single darn rock or dirt i was brutally killed at cause the amount of detail it was set (i love zhu's watch without doing quest due to the always rain effect it has), new content phased me out everything so i did not access any of the quests WoW didn't allowed or wanted me to, some zones i don't even quest cause i like to see them untouched by the progression (can't see the old valley but that is cause the content is forced, not phased that i would had prefer to stay in)(B)how and when?.. talking to a NPC to start something or having a quest pop in and pressing accept -and then teleported to an intended place- is so hard to put in game? the orc girl at the hammer time in DMF kicks you out even if you are out of the ring, entering world PvP or an event "XXXX is starting, join the adventurers?" yes - TP to the general area -unmounted- so you can assist.. no - kicks you out of the area/zone or phases you out entirely without see anything or anyone (NPCs, objects, interactive buildings, players, buffs, AoE effects from you/others, etc) and unable to enter until re-enter the zone(C)explained as part of (A) and seems flying to high spot to have a good view of the entire landscape or catch certain angle of the sun/glare/light to grasp a good screenshot is totally wrong.timeless isle, it's just an in-between zone while waiting for the new expansion, waiting for LFR que, and getting upgrade gear for near free for those not 1000% full raid progression, i see mobs i need or want to kill and i have to run all the way around and somehow made it in the 2 seconds the battle is on cause the amount of people already camping it (or that didn't got 1 shot by certain npcs that charges from half way of the isle when aggroed). being carried around on an over-grown chicken was different, killing it to land in a good spot was challenging -only the first time-, sure you say it's great now, once expansion or new patch is out, your isle is as good as the draenei, blood elfs, worgen, goblin, DK, panda starting areas -boring and you want someone to kill you to release you from the torment- (they were nice to VIEW for me, but only view, they were entertaining the first times but so many game content now makes you rip your hair off wanting to get out of there asap) or quel'danas which hardly somebody visit if not for achiev, mount or legendary bow.as for balancing.. i do hope you do NOT "balance" ground mounts, otherwise, bye bye "crusader aura" and "on a pale horse", i used to love this one when it affected the group you were at, it made you feel you slightly helped your group at least on movement (unholy aura in case of DKs).. i would prefer them back in the game as before cause it would add some usefulness imo... almost forgot, travel form, ghost wolftravel options.. more.. mounts?.. buffs as the mentioned above?... achievement for using all the "options" ? flight paths i can't even dismount mid flight or cancel and return to where i lift off cause i forgot X stuff or i saw Y enemy that i wanted to kill/tameside note: RaF summon spell takes you almost ANYWHERE including pandaria at lv 1 as long as you weren't in those forced instances for the mentioned races/class.
Pretty nice change. Although I enjoy exploring the world on a flying mount, I dislike most other aspects of it, and I feel it really harms the atmosphere in the game. Keeping flying mounts out of current content while allowing it everywhere else feels like a good compromise to me.What surprises me is how positive the reception here is.
By the time I have leveled one character to 100 I will have seen all the !@#$% scenery that I care to see. Successive alts ime will tend to see the same or even a little less. So what effects will this actually have ? 1) gathering will be slowed down a lot for most players. More will level their gathering profession as they level rather than waiting for flight. That may in turn affect profession leveling (land travel being so much slower) and the AH by slowing the former and jacking up prices on the latter. 2) more usage of the over-priced FP's will happen. 3) whatever content out in Draenor left at 100 that you want to consume will take a lot longer to do. Back in the day when I was writing papers for classes this sort of stretching of the material was called padding and when detected got you snippy comments and a lower grade.
I absolutely love this idea. Now I can show off my Kara mount:)
In addition to not being allowed to fly, we also won't be allowed to use mounts like Dark Phoenix even on land.*flips off Blizzard*
REMOVE FLYING MOUNTS!
It seems it is time for...Falling Flame + Goblin Glider! :)
