I really like this idea. :)
I'm fully in support of locking out flying for the first major patch. Hopefully the zones themselves are good enough to justify it. I really do/did love the adventurous feel of the outlying Pandaren islands.
Awesome. I support the idea of delayed flying.
I disagree with most of the arguments. I agree that flying ruins purposes of ground elevation and cliffs, but that's it. Do they honestly expect us to fight our way through the zones? That'd require mobs to have a ranged dismount, and even then I'd prefer to escape in most situations, it would just make traveling annoying.I can understand why they would want us to approach content in the order they want, but that design pretty much contradicts with an open-world gameplay. They could surround all "intended" paths by mountains and ravines and stuff to prevent us from picking content, but come on, this is not Crash Bandicoot, they chose to make the world open, and open world means we are supposed to choose which village we want to visit and which quest boss we want to kill. I am not enemy of linear gameplay, I actually like many games with such system, but it does not make sense in a MMORPG
good idea and in time we will be able to fly :)
Jeebus, the amount of hate in these comments is just to dang high!People who are complaining obviously never played games like Skyrim or Guild Wars , or any RPG for that matterIm aware both have fast travel and such, but stillI like having to use my ground mounts the first time around, and hopefully with this item squish, they also tone down XP to level, seeing so much really makes it seem way to long. But hopefully with the way they takin care of quests n such, running around on ground mounts to level shouldnt be a problem. Also take in mind the area isnt the same old boring outlands, its rebuilt from the ground up.
This. I like this.
I don't see what all the fuss is about, flying or not, as this is blizzards game, each time a new patch/xpac hits we all have to agree to the ToU and EULA before we log into the game, so what ever they do is fine with me. :)That reasoning is inherently flawed. Blizzard did indeed make WoW. This much, at least, is accurate. Their reasons for creating it, however, were not because they had some vested interest in altruistically creating a product for people to enjoy pro bono. They created WoW specifically for consumers to... well, consume. If a consumer disagrees with a choice Blizzard makes, then it is in their own best interest to cease consumption of the product, lest they waste their own time and money. That isn't to say that I think no flying until 6.1 is at once a terrible and poorly conceived idea; I simply wanted to point out that stating "it's the developers' game, they can do whatever they want with it" is giving them both too much credit and too much authority.
So this means the game will only be enjoyable for 3-4 months again before it'll turn &*!@ again? hmm, is 60€ worth for an expansion for 3-4 months? i don't think so.
I have no problem with the no-fly since everyone will be in the same boat. My only issue is with the statement that you could leave combat at any time. You cannot summon a mount if you are in combat; so, how can you leave combat at any time?
I would actually be happy if it went no-flying till 6.2PvP realms mean nothing if you go afk, just mount up and hover way up there vs going behind a tree, stealth or /sleep and hope not to get noticed. There's just that much more risk interest going afk. I had a few epic battles in early patch days of world pvp I dearly miss. LK days and the instances get borked after a certain patch had some massive battles like at the UK entrance in the base of the citadel and it was the daily dungeon. The floor was all white from skeletons, the control transferred from Alliance to Horde and back constantly. I had 6-8 people battle over a rare mining node once. This is not a bad thing but a very fun change of the game. Level up with friends/guildies and you'll likely not be bothered.
I've been playing since BC, With the changes coming I likely will not be supporting the new xpac. More care bear crap for newer players. No thank you.It is exactly this attitude that I find so awful when I read comments on the announcements. Newer players are no less important than older players--there is no reason veteran players should feel such a sense of entitlement. Whether you've been playing for 5 hours, 5 days, 5 months, or even 5 years, everyone should feel they are playing a comfortable and enjoyable game. You don't have to agree with the changes, but holding such a rude attitude towards newer players is absolutely disgusting. Of all the idiotic decisions Blizzard has ever made this one is by far at the top of the list, in all sincerity I hope this absolutely cripples box sales and subs for the time span between launch and patch 6.1 and that the morons responsible for this are summarily fired and black listed so they never find work in the industry again.Jesus christ, calm down. this isn't even that big of a decision, how dare you wish something so terrible on people just because you disagree with something they do?I agree with Myrolan, that is an awful thing to wish on anybody! In response to the announcement, I think it will be a challenge but I think it will be interesting as well. I have so many nice ground mounts that I hardly use compared to the ease of using flying ones. It's only until the first patch hits anyway, so it isn't like flying will never come.
maybe if they approached this a little differently they could meet people half way. Allow flying but create a mechanic that only allows you to take off and land safely at certain points, any attempt to leave the ground or land outside of those points could lead to an ambush situation that most players could not survive or a chance of an instakill by ork snipers or even a flying creature that could take you out of the air. basically remove the safety of flying but allow players to make the choice.
Wowhead has a huge reach. How about a poll?
I'm a fan of not being able to fly until level cap but whatever, this is hardly a deal breaker. Only takes a couple minutes to get around using flight paths.
Seems a bit extreme, instead of just no flying until cap, but whatever.
Sorry man, but Classic WoW was a dung heap. The nostalgia goggles have softened it a bit, just like everyone else on the expansion they joined, but Classic was a train-wreck of a disaster. Now, I don't condone private servers, but if you happen to find yourself on a classic one through some unknown and unknowable means, just try to play. It's terrible. Nothing works like it should (or that you feel it should) and it's not the emulation. It's the game itself. We have been spoiled by the amazingness that is WotLK/Cata/MoP and we frame our experiences through those lenses. Even as asinine as the latest changes and removals have been (looking at you Have Group, Will Travel), our experience now is still immeasurably better than it was in Classic.
For real! I have so many cool ground mounts that hardly see the light of day!Speaking of, they should make a vanity item Faerie Dust or something that while on your character allows you to mount up as a ground mount and fly around.
I like "no flying until 6.1" a lot better than "no flying at all in Draenor until 100." It's leveling alts in no-fly zones without flying that is the major pain in the neck. :(P.S. I am also 27 and have also been playing since vanilla. I find questing/leveling tedious; I want to explore the nooks and crannies of the world, not fight monsters, especially once I've already seen an area/done a set of quests on my main. I have 15+ characters, most of them over level 80.
I am stuck on both sides of this. I see all their points, and I see all the complaints. Being able to fly over everything makes playing so... dinky. However, not being able to fly in Timeless isle makes it so much more difficult to get to rares in a reasonable time. *sigh* not much I can do to change it anyway.
