BlizzCon 2013 is just over three weeks away! Whether you're joining us at the Anaheim Convention Center in person or viewing from home with the BlizzCon® Virtual Ticket, we’ve got a lot of fun and festivities lined up for you.

To help you form a plan of attack, we’ve just posted a schedule of the panels, eSports tournaments, and other events happening at BlizzCon on Friday and Saturday. You can also check out the floor map to get a lay of the land.

If you’d like to watch online, the BlizzCon Virtual Ticket grants you access to the events on the Main and Panel stages, along with this year’s in-game goodies. We’ll also be broadcasting the opening ceremony and this year’s eSports tournaments—including the StarCraft II WCS Global Finals—for free at www.blizzcon.com. Stay tuned for more information!

By the way, we have changed the name of our newest game for the third time! You can look forward to more information regarding Heroes of the Storm at BlizzCon!

Will they be broadcast via the Virtual Ticket?Comment by 939041I'm intrigued especially by "What's Next?", because World of Warcraft should have a limited life left to it, but so far it hasn't gone away yet. The big problem I see is that Arthas is dead. Kil'Jaeden is dead. Illidan is dead. Kael and Vashj are dead. And Kel'Thuzad has been killed twice. Those were the remnants of Warcraft 3, which is the reason a lot of people gave WoW a shot. I never really bought into Deathwing, because even though he did change Azeroth, I didn't remember him well enough from the previous two games to care about his back story. And Garrosh always came off as an incompetent whiner that I'm still confused as to how it was decided he was a suitable candidate for Warchief instead of one of the other two Kalimdor-based leaders.

I just hope that they spend the next two or three patches building up the Burning Legion's return (which I am hopeful is the next "big bad", because the "Old Ones" have now had three of them die between Warcraft 3 and WoW). Some more heroics would help with that, as would one more raid. I would really like to see WoW keep going, but if they don't give us a villain that we all can see as a threat (read: Don't just throw him in a random book and expect we'll all read it), a lot of people just won't come back, and a fair number will keep leaving. Again, this isn't a game based off of books. It's a game that is pretty much a sequel to another game, though a completely different genre. If this that previous game was based off of a book (which it wasn't), then maybe I, and others, might care to read. But it wasn't. So we don't. This is not a slam against the book readers, in fact they should be rewarded with nice little nods to the book every so often. This is simply stating a fact that has been more than proven by the fact that so many people quit after Arthas was killed and became old content.

Anecdotal, but I never played any of the Warcraft games before WoW and didn't know any of the characters beforehand. I don't doubt that WoW's initial success came from fans of the original games, or that there aren't a lot of fans of the original games still playing. But I find it extremely improbable that even a sizable minority, let alone majority, of current WoW players are still cruising on momentum from their passion for an 11-year-old game. (Note: I'm sure the wowhead user base skews heavier in this direction than the overall WoW subscriber base.)

There are probably a lot more people like me than you realize: people to whom Illidan is merely a raid boss, a name on a nameplate that drops stuff that used to be good. I acknowledge the ignorance here: I don't doubt that Illidan has a great story that I might have picked up on better if I'd played the earlier games and/or BC back when they were new. But I didn't, and yet WoW is still compelling to me. And Mists of Pandaria, though its connection to the lore of the earlier games is slight? Love it.
