So now Blizz had to release something just to prove to the "arrogant" ones how much they FAIL and why they keep getting kicked out 5-mans, Scenarios, and LFRs. So, you can challenge these "individuals" to show their achievements when they start being... failures.I have no qualms about it, I know I suck and will meet my limit on the Proving Grounds. And start from there. Well put by another comment......It could be renamed to "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is".Now about that "You are doing it wrong"... I intend to run it as a Hunter and tank it with a tanker pet, (if possible at all), and see how far it goes.It could become a Raid Requirement for major raiding Guilds, to prove the quality of the raiders. It could become a revolutionary tool. I wonder future implications of that.
Thank you for this guide, it's been a very helpful reference. Also, do any warrior tanks out there have class-specific advice to offer for surviving the higher waves on Endless? I'm consistently making it to wave 19 before succumbing to the massive amounts of damage going out (yes, I'm using CDs, stuns, CC, and kiting whenever available/pertinent).I've played with my spec and glyphs a lot - even went with a higher stam build specifically for this purpose, as the avoidance build I'd switched to for 5.4 wasn't cutting it through the bleeds - and finally found a setup that seems to work well for me (shockwave's a must, bloodbath and glyph of incite help to burn hard-hitting adds, etc). With that said, I'm very open to any suggestions from those more successful than I in living past the 19th wave. :)
Another update for dpsers--we were missing a few Small Illusionary Banshee in the Gold Wave summary and they're all in now. Thanks to everyone who has left spec-specific tips on the achievement pages as well!
I'm confused. In the general tanking description, this pops up.
Is it possible for a dps only class to sign up for a healer or tank role? For example, could a hunter sign up as a tank or healer?
Are the achievements from the proving grounds specific to the character you completed them on or are they account wide? For instance if I was able to achieve dps gold on one of my death nights would it apply to all of them or would I need to repeat it with each one?
They are all account wide achievements.
That part in the tank guide should be clearer now--looks like I added a phrase covering the live change without deleting the old one. I'll take another look and see if there's more LoS references to remove.
One of the greatest additions in the game lately - I've had tons of fun getting the different levels. It allows you to repeat until you learn the tricks.Thanks for the detailed guide - it helped a lot to understand the basic mechanics. However, the mastery comes from doing it again and again, untill you learn.
Replying yukonjack: as somebody said, it is named "Proving Grounds", not "Training Grounds", but nobody is preventing you to keep practicing. Yes, I rolled it, and got a Silver DPS rating on the first run, and hit a wall about 4th or 5th level in gold. iLv was not excuse, since all my stuff got tuned to 463 level, and the hit/expertise levels were tuned to raid level, as is 7,5%. So, I took a look at Elitist Jerks, and being a Marksman, they just said "there is no reason for you to be a MM at this time, since its DPS is lower". And my glyphs and talents were "wrong" too. I had 1000 agility flask (alchemy) and 300 food rolling for all the attempts, so that one is ruled out too. Putting together a weak spec, "wrong" glyphs, and "wrong" talents actually blocked me from gold, since I "almost" got past 5th stage on gold. Even if it's 5%, I lost by that amount. Not to mention my playskill, mind you.Now, the interesting thing is, even being all "wrong", I usually get 9th or 10th dps rating on a 25-man. Or a 15th on an Oondasta run. Which means, LOTS of people would benefit from the proving grounds, or they are not pushing themselves at all and are just enjoying the game, totally casual.Another interesting point, it won't become moot, since your gear is scaled AND the PG is good at showing you basic mechanics, like bosses with immune phases, keep moving, not standing in fire... and using boss mechanics against themselves by positioning. Another trick I learned was to put the pet on defensive or passive, and tell it to hit a foe, while you burn another, being a hunter. It worked like a DoT.All in all, it is a tool, and should not be removed from the game, even on the next xpacs. And yes, your opinion is valid, when you mention it as a tool to learn a new spec. It doesn't tell you WHERE you went wrong, it just tells you IF YOU SUCCEEDED, which makes all the difference.
I had success with my druid the following way:I am going ahead and posting my cooldown list here, maybe someone will find it useful. A good advice is to try to "learn" the different waves, as it really helps to know what to expect.I used Weak Auras to display the list on the screen so I could always have a look what was up next.1 () - vigil2 (AE) - tranquil3 (2x Chomp) - 4 (2x Aqua) - kick / vigil5 (AE) - tranquil6 () - kick / vigil7 (2x melee) - ironbark8 (caster) - KICK / vigil9 (AE) - tranquil10 (melee) - kick / ironbark / vigilFor talents, there are some important choices:Rank 2: Yseras Gift (Really important! Free smartheals without any mana-spending!)Rank 3: Typhoon (THE gamewinner for you, if the nasty Flamecasters hit your party)Rank 4: Force of Nature (Maybe also doable with Soul of the Forest, but the Trees are free and also smartheal!)Rank 5: Bash (All mobs besides enraged melees can be bashed, it gives you a second to breathe sometimes)Rank 6: Nature's Vigil (A little cleave-healing since the legendary won't work)For gems: You can regem of course, but it is not really necessary. I went with my usual mastery-gems, but reforged to the first hastecap (3043). Do remember to have some spirit with you. I also used an int-flask with int-food.Playstyle: Play VERY Mana-conserving! Never use Regrowth if you don't have the clearcast progg. You also need to cast from time to time. Also, always heal off the "chomp"-debuff really quickly, even if it needs a Healing Touch. Frequently use the Trees, and make a little cooldown list if you have trouble timing them (see above for tips). The last tip I have for you is: Always (re-)plant the mushroom so your meeles, the meele-mage and yourself can stand in it, and use the together with ! It really helps!
