well, just one step away from BiS gear being cash only.
And the slippery surface is starting it's incline.
This is the best racket ever! They sell you the game, charge you a monthly fee to play it, and then let you pay extra not to have to play it! Those chumps who are not playing it for free don't know what they're missing!
This is really just for the lazy people that don't want to waste the hour or two gathering lesser charms. I mean I wouldn't mind spending like a dollar for fifty lesser charms; if I'm short just like 5 charms, I wouldn't mind spending say a dime to get the five charms instead of wasting ten minutes on pet battles in order to get them. As long as they keep the cap on the elder charms, I don't really see an issue with this change.
I think this is actually more geared at some of the Asian countries where subscriptions are not monthly, but rather hourly. In which case, you're likely to increase subscriber retention if they aren't using up a paid hour farming lesser charms for a raid that night, and ditto for leveling up. Hence why it's getting rolled out in those countries that already use a different subscription model, and not NA/EU.
The asian market is very different from the US/EU. I don't care if they have an XP buff that costs real money. I will be extremely turned off if they bring things like that to the US servers. I don't wanna sound like a whiner, but I could see myself quiting over that. It's a slippery slope that I don't want to see WoW go down. Unless it goes Free-to-Play, microtransactions for XP buffs have no place in the game.
Blizz will not make WoW free-to-play with the addition of micro-transactions. They make far too much money off subscriptions, not to mention they're basically the only mmorpg that is able to successfully run a subscription model this late in age. However, I'm disappointed. Blizzard said they were against micro-transactions and that we wouldn't see them in WoW. Now we're going to. This isn't the first time they've gone back on what they've said though. Hopefully they'll go back on their decision for a vanilla realm too.
Can I SELL my Lesser Charms of Fortune? I earn far more of them in a week than I can convert to Mogu runes, so I now have like 600 of them that I can't use. I might as well make some real money off them, or at least trade them for game time.
it's ludicrous, not ludacris, that's a rapper. secondly, subscriptions serve what purpose? Why don't you just pay $30 and get a brand new 90 instead of having to level? It's pay to win on account of rapid leveling means one more 90 ahead of the pack.
ASIAN REALMS. Nuff said, stop your whining.
I really don't like the purchase of Lesser charms. Skirting the edge of Pay 2 Win with that I thinkThe only thing that lesser charms can be used for it three runes...oh yes, so P2W /roll eyesThis is how it starts. First it was a charity pet. Then pets just because. And mounts. And an XP buff. And now Charms. What's after that? I don't really want them to keep pushing it.
This is the best racket ever! They sell you the game, charge you a monthly fee to play it, and then let you pay extra not to have to play it! Those chumps who are not playing it for free don't know what they're missing!OMG This is right on the money!I need someone to play for me. Then I can pay blizz for the game, then pay for stuff in the game, and pay someone to play for me. Woot, I wouldn't have to do nothing then! But get another job ;(
This is how it starts. First it was a charity pet. Then pets just because. And mounts. And an XP buff. And now Charms. What's after that?Real-money black-market auction house... people paying Blizz hundreds of dollars for Dreadnaught gear from the original Naxx, just to transmog it.
pay to win may be coming. so what if its only charms now if you don't think blizz will start selling high end pvp or raid gear some time you are a fool. not saying they will but think about it, they are a business and they want money. so if they think pay to win will make them more they will go for it. so would you kindly stop mocking the people that fear this new idea thank you.
i seriously think people need to take a breath and calm down for a secondfirstly, these changes will be hitting the asian servers first and their subscriptions work very differently from US/EU ones. secondly, its only LESSER charms that will be bought. how would that make the game p2w other than the fact you can buy 500 charms and never have to grind for them for weeks? when you could save yourself the money and just hoard them anyway?
i seriously think people need to take a breath and calm down for a secondIt would be nice, but that is hard to do when every single person who has mentioned Pay 2 Win has a fundamental misunderstanding of what the term actually means.Calming down won't help them, only education will, and actually many posts just seem to be jumping on the bandwagon of other naysayers.I personally don't care either way, As long as the items they sell don't affect the game, which they absolutely do not in any way other than on a personal time spent playing level, then I am good with it.
Still find it hilarious people are saying they'll quit over a buyable xp pot.If it gives such an "advantage"..Go look up Krol the Blade. Look at his loot. 300% xp pot. Notice the RMT one is 100%.People who play in game have a bigger advantage.Lesser charms. Said this in another thread. Even if they were to remove all in game forms of gathering lesser charms this second, I'm good until the next expansion. I have that many of the stupid things. As said several times, this is ASIA ONLY for now. Maybe in a year or two we'll see xp pots or things. But if you honestly think somebody else's leveling speed affects you in the slightest..Don't know what to tell you.Only way it could possibly affect you is if you were going for Server first level 90, but..considering it's this late in MoP..yeah, if you don't got it, you don't got it.And for people saying "the next thing is raid gear!111!"I point you to EQ. They have one of the biggest, most obnoxious ingame stores. They don't sell any gear other than leveling gear (Which you can farm ingame, anyway). the only thing they do with it? They no longer really put cool weapon graphics ingame. They are all bought. So oh noes, people might pay for mog weapons!
If they make the game Free to play, I'm going to quit.It already is F2P or did you forget that trial accounts have unlimited play time now? F2P always imposes limits on those that don't pay for the subscription, WoW's limitations are simply so much more than other F2P models you don't realize that a "trial" account is actually their F2P model.Eventually, WoW WILL go full F2P. Almost all MMO's these days do this as they start to decline, but WoW has always been top dog in the market so hasn't needed to alter it's model. Most likely If Titan is going to truely be a WoW killer liek every other MMO tried to be WoW will end up going F2P after it's release. This in game store is just the First step in a gradual transition towards F2P, which is a much better way of doing it than most MMO's did where they simply went F2P and threw all the F2P options in at once. With the way this is panning out WoW will have all it's paid F2P perks in place a long time before they actually go F2P.
Maybe it seems like an XP buff is "optional" at the store on first look. But soon, the leveling speed with the buff will be baseline and all regular players who refuse to buy it are on disadvatage.Either Blizzard thinks the leveling speed in the game is fine ( IMO it's way too fast with existing boni already), or it is too slow and gets increased with a patch for everyone. But if you'd have to pay for "XP Pots" instead of a general buff, then you have in fact Pay2Win.Now - i've paid over 1000€ for WoW subscriptions since release. But if anything goes even slightly into the "F2P/P2W" direction, i'm going to quit.Don't get me wrong, WoW is a great game and, despite its age, probably has never been technically good like it is today. But i absolutely hate any kind of so-called "F2P" games because they are all a complete rip-off for the player....so we certainly don't need a game model where the investment banker can pay 5€ more to level 300% faster than the unemployed highschool teacher.Uh...the 300% cash shop model has been in the game for years. It's called RAF.For about 45 bucks you get to level characters 300% faster for months...If you leave over this and not RAF I don't know what to tell you. Either way I'm sure you are a fine human being but I probably won't lament your passing. The game ends for different people for different reasons and perhaps this'll be good for you. You'll get out there and discover some new game or hobby. If you've enjoyed yourself so far then I'd say your 1000 fun munnies were well spent.
