what goes up has got to fall
Cue endless THE SKY IS FALLING posts.Let's face it; I've played WoW for four years and I'm starting to get a little bored with it. Imagine if you started in Vanilla. It's a nearly 10 year old game, of course the subscriber base is falling.
It's all the dailies I bet ! ;).
Most losses are in the east. China is full of hardcores that only play during peak raid periods. Either way, 8 million subscribers is still a lot of players and unless you're unlucky enough to be on one of the servers that has lost players (like me :( ), then I doubt you notice much of a difference personally.
It's either the Dailies or CRZ that's to blame. The effects are finally being felt. I know Blizzard is doing a great deal to mitigate the effect of Dailies, but they're doing absolutely nothing about CRZ. Well, they better, before it's too late.Cheers.
The subscriber numbers were at 9.1 million before Mists came out, and now it's lost all of the new-expansion bump, plus another 800K suscribers in the 7 months since it was released. I'm not sure how you could not characterize this as a "sky is falling" situation. The only reason people (like yourself) are ridiculing that notion is because there are still 8.3 million subscribers. That is down almost a third from their peak. Yes, the game is aging, but it's not like Blizzard has simply let the game sit fallow; they've been working constantly to put new content in place. And yet, the numbers are falling rather quickly.
I'm not too surprised, to be honest. The game has gone in such a different direction from what it once was. Note that this isn't a bad thing, nor is it a good thing, it is merely something. Either way, another game changing expansion needs to come out, and soon. Wrath was the peak of the playerbase (and of the story, imo), while Burning Crusade had pulled in many new people for the gameplay. Something like one of those two needs to happen again.
serves them right maybe if they listen to the gammers maybe people wouldnt leave theres couple quest im having problem with so since they wont fix those i'll join the rest of the people and leave as well last i heard your not the only mmo in town good bye blizzard hello star wars
everytime i open a ticket to launch a complaint they either refer me to a different dept or they cant fix my problem listen to the people that play wow
I'm on the verge of cancelling my account as well. I am not engaged with end level content. I spend the majority of my time running dailies, on numerous 90's, in order to get the rep and Lesser Charm of Good Fortune for bonus rolls in LFR. To further exacerbate my situation, I have two jobs, college, and a family to juggle. I simply don't have the time needed to progress in WoW.It's not because I can't afford the subscription, it's because I can't afford the extra time involved. This is compared to Cata, WotLK, BC, and Vanilla; where I could juggle my time around end game content, seeing everything WoW had to offer. Raids, Professions, Auctions, & level up alternate characters.5.3 promises to fix many of these issues, but it may be too little too late as they are seeing. I have long time friends, that I met through WoW, that have given it up for the aforementioned reasons as well. They seem happier in life, without the World of Warcraft (World of Dailies).
I'd love to see this quarterly report as a means for Bliz replacing GC. I feel he is way too reactionary in the changes he implements and seriously lacks any sort of long term thinking or vision as to where the game needs to be going. Plus I hate some of the justifications he uses for class balancing that goes on and I really feel like they've dropped the ball in terms of how pvp has developed over the last two expansions.
no one commented on the typo for Heart of the Swarm being Heart of the Storm.. well looks like I just did. Tisk tisk wowhead, letting this kinda typo by :>
I've also read over on the WoW forums that a lot of people have refused to pay $25 to move off dying servers, and instead have quit the game. And, you know why those servers are dying? It's because they don't have any of the benefits of low pop servers anymore, because of CRZ, just the negatives. All IMHO, of course.Cheers.
I'd be careful with those well thought out opinions lanky, they appear to get some people wound up :)I've not played enough since Wrath to really have an opinion but I really liked this expansion, it felt right, while there are probably increasing issues putting pressure on people not to play/pay any more, I have a feeling it's more of a general malaise than any one thing forcing people out. If that's the case, subscriber number will probably level off at some point, meaning a lot more of the casual, part-timers, such as me will stop playing but still left with a solid core. The only question then becomes what number that level will be.
I've been playing since vanilla's patch 1.4 about 8 years ago and imo WoW doesn't have much life left. The new content of Pandara was excellent i thought, a definite step up from both Cata and WoLK, not as enjoyable as BC, but still an enjoyable journey. But that was just the quest lines and exploration, once I hit 90 it became a long slow drudge through dailies, dailies and more dailies. Having to pound out 5 or 6 dailies for each factions rep became a tedious process. For their part though, Blizzard has implemented a few things to help alleviate the drudgery of those grinds such as the commendation you can get once revered with each faction and rotating the dailies so your not doing the same ones EACH day, just every other day. If you only have an hour or two to play a night those dailies take up a huge chunk, if not all, of your play time. As for the CRZ, it was a decent idea at first i thought, but its just added to the headache of dailies. Taking 20 mins to kill 8 mogu in the vale just because theres 30 or 40 other toons there doing the same quest got real old, real quick. I think though, that one of the biggest issues, is the lack of a friendly community in wow nowadays. Case in point, just go to any capital city and ask in chat a simple question like wheres the inn or trainer. You might get a correct answer, but before that your gonna get insulted, made fun of, and talked down to by so many people its ridiculous. Its like no one remembers that we were ALL noobs once.
CRZ does, in fact, only affect gold farmers. But, seeing as how that's one of the only things one can do outside of dailies, of course people don't like it. If they're going to do something along the lines of CRZ, they may as well start merging low pop servers together. As it is, CRZ is an annoyance while leveling alts, a bigger annoyance while trying to collect lower level mats to sell for gold, and a complete roadblock as far as getting a Minfernal. Then again, if you want to see how much Blizzard cares outside of releasing new patches, just look at the last WoW Anniversary, where they completely recycled the previous year WoW Anniversary, from the reward down to the letter accompanying the reward.
the problem is simple they stopped making a game to play and made one to keep people paying and people can feel it .I am trying atm to get my meta gem as a warrior and it is almost to a point I don't care the quest you get with the prince is made for toons that can self heal .I don't think the people who make the game play it and it is killing them add to the fact loots tables suck and the game wont tab target for crap as a warrior and you get cya!
