If they're going to revamp professions, they should have worked on Engineering and make it worth having at lower levels. I've never seen a profession that is utter garbage till you hit Northrend level training. They are all worthless at low levels, the speed at which we level just borks any type of use out of anything you can make... and anything you do make becomes obsolete so fast that it is not worth buying/selling on the AH.The only people that crafting works for from 1-60 are new players who flounder around while leveling, and this change will actually help them as they will be able to find raw materials on the AH at a reasonable price now. In the past, lvl 90s would overpay drastically for leveling mats, putting them out of the price of real new players.
Blacksmithing is the least of my worries when leveling professions. We need a leveling revamp to fishing. That thing is a nightmare to level.Amen to that. That and Engineering. Engineering is a $%#@& and a half and a headache to boot. :< For me....I like this and I don't like this....But that might be because I've leveled EVERY profession "the hard way" so many times my brain hurts just thinking about remembering it.Ew.
I'm so disappointed with this. I really honestly don't know how to express this clearly enough. At least before, a person had to spend some time going around, thinking things through a little bit, chipping away. If they were a max level blacksmith, you knew they at least had to run around and put some time and effort into it.This? I'm done. I'm honestly done with WoW. This was just the final bit of ballast added to sink this for me.PS - Oh, and the fact they are doing this for blacksmithing, but apparently none of the others so far?..... way to go Blizzard. Way to go. Nice way to just give the middle finger to people.

If they were a max level blacksmith, you knew they at least had to run around and put some time and effort into it.Uh huh, right....and how many guides are there to level all of the Warcraft professions at this point? I can agree you with grind which takes time, but like all professions, there isn't much effort for them.
All this does it greatly increases the price of Ghost Iron Ore and those makes people want to go farm it to *!@#. So actually leveling BS this way is either going to be EXTREMELY expensive or just as time consuming as the old way. I am glad they didn't just make it use vendor items and you still have to go out and farm ore. Current Tier ore is going to be impossible to farm... so GL to people that think they are going to have it on easy street in 5.2
If all the professions are going the way of cooking and blacksmithing I want to know where is the NPC that I can stand my new alts in front of, toss coins at him and have them level-capped in a hour?

Way to go. Nice way to just give the middle finger to people.yeah right , I am a max lvl BS and it took me all of 4 hours game time to mine most of the mats and buy the ones i couldnt be bothered mining ,and another half hour to lvl . Really why do people think leveling a profession takes heaps of time and work -it doesnt .I have even made levelling kits ( everything needed to level a profession from 0-525 ) which take between 4 and six hours each to gather and sold them for 15k each -so the people who bought them would be 525 lvl in 15 to 30 minutes Now for me to make a BS lvling kit it will probably still take the same time to gather enough GI but at least I wont have to travel all around the place to do soThe only thing I dont like about this change is that it will restrict the gold making abilities of lower level toons . Every toon I level has mining and skinning as their professions to start out with so that I dont have to transfer gold from my main to them --usually ended up with 10-15 k gold on toons once they reached 85 and that was after paying for all flying .
The blacksmithing training is extremely disappointing. Where is the fun/work in the new 5.2 system?Keep the old.Let's see, endless dailies, incredibly rare recipes, pet battles if you must. Somehow, I don't believe anyone enjoyed having an 85 and being forced to go around Azeroth farming ore to up their blacksmithing. I can certainly attest to this as a DK who waited that long to even start a profession. No, I'm gonna say blizz has a good call on this one.
Takes about 3278 Ghost Iron bars to level 1 - 500. Actually not that bad.
lol at the fact that they cut the spawns for ghost iron by 50% + another bit... and then make the leveling of blacksmith require 10x more ghost iron than it did previously(and 10x is being nice... it is actually much more)edit: @^^^ person... that is over 6500 ore.... which is a hell of a lotta farming time to gather the 1600 nodes...
As much as I don't agree with with the whole "easy mode leveling" that's being put into the game, I would rather do this than have to farm a lot of random mats in vanilla, and end up with things I can't sell anymore :/
Blacksmithing is the least of my worries when leveling professions. We need a leveling revamp to fishing. That thing is a nightmare to level.you can skill fishing with books from pat nagle
its all bop wheres the boe stuff and Ghost iron is now worth trash
For all of you that think Fishing needs a leveling revamp, you can go from 1-600 fishing before Lvl 10 by farming the junk pools on Darkmoon Island. Having lots of money or a higher level toon to get Water Walking Elixers is nice but not necessary. You can also get Spirits of Harmony at low levels the same way.
1 more tiny step towards WoW just playing itself for you.lol ikr
The addition to include the other tradeskills would be a nice boost especially if you have lots of alts and you want their tradeskills to be maxed! :)
Skinning makes up for that with the fact that you can skin other people's kill etc. Severage. You didn't even read what I said...that was a totally irrelevant comment. I said nothing about Skinning being hard, skinning is easy. LW is hard. You have to stop every 5 levels and farm leathers because LW takes 10 times what you'll get out of leveling skinning. All the leathers I've gotten on my low lv toon from skinning medium leathers didn't come close to getting me to 175 LW. I'd have to either pay 300g for a meager 15 levels on my server or go farm them again.I'm not necessarily complaining that LW is too hard, but that Skinning is too easy in comparison to LW. Skinning blasts up to level 300, and you never see medium leathers again, which you use for at least 20 more levels on LW.Either way, this Blacksmithing Revamp isn't WoW playing itself...for all the ragequitters out there, note a few things...1): This is PTR info.2): Blacksmithing was already easy.3): If you use the 'revamped' way to max level, it will cost you a boatload or you'll have to send it from other toons.I'm sure the most effective way is to take BS to somewhere around 300 manually, when you get to Mithril grinding. Up to that point it is fairly easy. After that, maybe you can throw money away with ghost ores.
This is awesome. For people who don't like to farm old mats, they can select this option. I have an alt that is torn between JC or BS. I guess I know which profession she is going to choose now.
Leatherworking! Let me tell you about god-damned freaking leatherworking! On my main, as he reached level 55-60 ish, I decided that I would boost his LW all the way into something I could USE. That's the whole point of a profession, right. Right?. So I stopped. I stopped doing everything else. I was not doing pugs, not taking quests, I just went after animals I could kill and skin.Kill and skin.Kill and skin.Kill and skin.Kill and skin.Sanity reaching 0 outside of a raid, kill and skin. Up to today, I try to skin anything I kill, be that beast, human, orc, blood elf... One of my greatest personal achievements was to skin every raid boss that could be skinned. Forget his head, I'm using his wings for a new suit. When I woke up from that nightmare, I was 79, and still in Outlands. I hadn't set foot on Northrend until then. Hadn't done much else either. So yeah, the only way of leveling LW and skinning is to KILL STUFF. No nice itty bitty nodes waiting to be harvested, you must hunt your prey, butcher it, skin it while it is warm, cook its flesh while its heart still beats. And stop whining about nodes, nodes won't attack you back and try to eat your face, whimps. So, you also learn to be a man, because nothing is free. I wanna see Blizz get around that detail in a nice fashion and cheat everybody off of the enlightening experience.
Thanks Wirxaw for the data on the Pre MoP Black Smithing mats. Based on those numbers there is no way anyone should think the new method is easier on the number of mats. That means the naysayers can only be complaining about the lack of time sunk into running all over the place which is baloney. In order to do things the old way would mean no flying in Azeroth. In fact it should be walkies until you get to zones for 40+. No fast mount till 60+zones. No flying in Outlands till 70. No flying in Northrend till 77. NOBODY is going to do that.
