Thought this would be the return of BS paths, armoursmith etc. something to fill the (horrendously poorly handled) void but no, it's making it even easier. If you cba levelling BS - don't, go faceroll or whatever it is you do. Why can't Blizzard see that if you give everyone everything instantly:A. Takes less time for us - less money for themB. Damages the AH economy and realm communication between players and interaction C. Nothing to work for - boredom sets in.Hard to keep track of how stupid these guys are at times. Well not "at times", these days.Edit; Crust, spot on, another nail in the coffin of the AH and another vanity/ADHD project launched.... What?Did you just deduce from a one professions's trvival change the end of a multimillion company?
I don't like the BS changes, not at all. What I disliked about Cataclysm was the lack of adventure, the easy route to levelling. MoP returned the sense of adventure and the immersion in the world. Now they're removing adventure again. When I went back to mine the old world, there was always some rediscovery, whether it was with gems that were found with the ore, or spots in the world that I had not visited in years.Starting a new character on a new server, mining is usually my first profession in order to earn some gold whilst levelling. That option is now dead.Blizzard just don't seem to be learning from their mistakes.
C. Nothing to work for - boredom sets in.Yes, because grinding a profession from 1 to max level is just so much 'fun'; I have alts who are at level 80+ with their professions at about 100 because I just can't be bothered to get off my duff and grind them up. Professions can be fun once they are maxed out, but till that point? Not so much.
No idea what you're talking about Tarumuat, and if you only enjoy professions when they're maxed out Adam you're doing it really wrong.
This sort of thing serves mainly to cheapen professions. Alot of people worked hard to skill thier profs to make some gold now might as well level on full gather profs (ofcourse the gathered low lvl mats are worthless now too) why would someone bother skilling while they level now. Its like blizzard doesnt want anyone to touch the old content any more and if that is the case just make the jump to WOW2 instead of cheapening the experience of classic areas.
Take out the hard part of leveling a profession. What's next, free epics from archaeology?Stupid.
Nice to see so many that actually seem to see the problem with this. Gives me hope! Respect.
Well, that's certainly a nice way to give an alternate route
as someone who started up my BS this expac I'm annoyed that I spent a good week just getting out of vanilla levels of blacksmithing and now at Cata not wanting to farm any more ore that they're doing this.well now you will have the pleasure to speed-run youself from cata to maxdont blame blizzard just because you had terrible timing
Fishing already revamped.Old days:
I, for one, hate spending time in obsolete content, gathering obsolete materials to craft obsolete gear; the only advantage to the "old way" that you can disenchant things you make if you have an Enchanter and sell the mats on the AH (until they do this revamp for Enchanting).I'm perfectly okay with gathering current content materials even if it's just to craft vendor fodder. Though I agree with the person who said Leatherworking should have gotten this treatment first. I've only ever leveled that profession once. It's simply a nightmare, especially pre-300.
I don't know how it will play out, so I'll wait and see the changes before I decide which I like better. BS was one hell of a grind back in the day, especially when you'd farm for ore and only get one piece of ore at a time, so I only did BS on one toon. I didn't really like how it was leveled the first few expansions so I'm open to changes. I wonder if changes will be made to the other professions. LW and Enchanting are two others that were more grueling to level up. It's still such a grind to get stacks of leather, more so than mining for ore is.
You who point out this borks the AH on old mats are right. What you fail to note is that those high prices could only be borne by older players with healthy gold balances. The high prices were manifestly unfair to new players. Besides that this is a nail in the coffin of botters. If nothing else the change is worthwhile on that point alone. One other minor point. When you are leveling a new profession on a higher level toon you will more often than not, not have access to the non trainer recipes that stop you from having to craft hundreds and hundreds of green recipes. This eliminates that. It was stupid before and its still stupid.
==============================================Next life i want to be brainless, so i can enjoy wow again !==============================================Besides that this is a nail in the coffin of botters. If nothing else the change is worthwhile on that point alone. .With the high demand for Iron ghost bars, botters will be in heaven
Now do it for LW. Or it just doesn't make sense. BS mining is indeed frustrating, LW skinning is also miles, MILES worse than even current Tailoring.
It's awesome that this happened with Pandaria's launch, when people were leveling new monks and stuff. Just imagine if they'd waited until the second major patch of the expansion to introduce something like this - that wouldn't have made any sense at all.
I'm pretty sure people who make gold from farming old mats would be disappointed.Because for an example,I see people selling old mats like Fel Iron Ore/Bar for a lot more than Ghost Iron Ores/Bars,since people need them for various profession leveling, but not much people farm for old mats anymore, and you have CRZ now(which means more competition on deposits).
I recently took up blacksmithing on 2 of my alts (1 per server I play on), both to complete my list of professions learnt and also to be able to craft my own weapons for mogging/levelling lowbie alts. I haven't come far yet (not even hit 100 with either), as it's pretty damn tedious to farm dozens of stacks of lowbie ores - even with a toon who has max flying speed. This new method will give me a choice: will I save myself the hours of work and buy some readily available Ghost Iron, or will I save myself the gold and farm old world materials instead? That's nice.I'm glad that they didn't remove the old way. I would've liked this a lot less if I had been forced to use it instead of the current way of levelling. :)
very disappointed about the blacksmithing.... blizz seems to keep making the game more and more idiot- proof. flying around the world to get certain things is all part of the fun and got players to go out and explore instead of just sitting in SW/ ORG! professions imo should not be able to be "speed- leveled". the winterspring farm is another example, blizz got rid of the old farm for a much easier one.... all I am saying is that blizzard keeps dumbing down this game and the more and more they are doing so, the more and more it makes me want to call it a wrap on the game- Mr. Snowy Grainius

Now there will be no use for botters to farm the ore as their will be no high-end demand from vet players who want to powerlevel the skills. New players are much slower at leveling and will spend more time in each zone, not only their slow leveling, but now without botters they will be able to find enough ore to keep their BS skill appropriate. Those of us with heirlooms, we can just speed level and worry about profs when we hit 85. Nice
