No, it's pretty obvious that Anet is just taking pot shots at Blizzard to be $%^&s.
Every MMO coming out will take pot shots at Blizz/WoW. Rift did it. SWTOR did it. GW2 is doing it. I don't think they are doing it to be mean. They are just poking fun at the "big dog". WoW set the bar so high for MMOs that none have been able to even compete in the past 7 years. Anyone trying to get a real piece of the market is always going to try and compare themselves to WoW because they want to be viewed as real competition (i.e. perceived rivalry).
I've played GW2 beta and here is my brief analysis if you're comparing it to WoW:- Graphics: Substantially better in GW2. The cities look amazing and you actually feel like you are there.- Sound: Music quality equal but GW2 has more voice acting which is nice. GW2 also has better ambient sound, such as the hustle and bustle of a crowd you hear while in the city.- Gameplay/UI: WoW is much smoother and refined. The UI in GW2 seems quite restrictive.- PvP: WoW pvp is more enjoyable due to the smoother and refined interface, although GW2 is much more "balanced" which makes it dull. PvP is more like a button-mash fest rather than something that requires strategy. On the plus side, GW2 does not have an overabundance of CC or "cheap" abilities like perma-stealthing rogues.- World PvP: GW2 has no world pvp - all pvp occurs in a specific area devoted to pvp. This is what killed GW2 for me. I like ganking, and I like the feeling I get of knowing that am at risk of being attacked when I venture into contested zones.- Single Player Quest: Much better in GW2. Quests are more enjoyable and meaningful to the game world, and are more dynamic in nature.- Factions: As far as I can tell, all players are allied as factions. There are no opposing player factions that I could discern (i.e. horde vs alliance).- Character Development: There are no stand-out characters in GW2. The game lore is weak and uninteresting. This is something I noticed right from the start. WoW does a better job if drawing you in with a story - although you can argue that in its current state WoW is more about pop-culture references than game lore.If GW2 had more interesting characters and lore I think it would be the hands-down choice for anyone who enjoys PvE...but I feel that the lack of true world pvp is a shortcoming.
well, I may have misjudged ArenaNet.The Offensive Tombstone was removedThey acknowledged that it broke the fourth wall, broke immersion, and didn't reflected neither their degree of professionalism, nor the views of the company as a whole. The tomb was apparently made by a disgruntled artist that isn't even working there anymore.I'm willing to believe that, if anything because angry artists are capable of doing some really jerk-ass moves like this, it has happened before on several games, and this particular case is probably not gonna be the last time.Glad to see that Anet can act like professionals, and be mature about competition.
Will Stay Classy update on the patch or the expansion? I'am not finding any proper literature on this.
