5 straight quarters of subscription losses, totally 2.9 million people no longer playing. That's nearly 25% of the pre-Cata playerbase gone. And yet the happy talk continues 'MoP will bring them back!'. Some people will come back, but the majority of those 2.9 million won't. That's just a fact. I stopped playing back in December when SWTOR came out, though that game has turned out to be a bit disappointing and I haven't played in almost 2 months. Maybe I'm just burnt out on MMOs period. But I'm not alone in feeling that way. The business is changing, and WoW's business model is a dinosaur.World of Wacraft had a great run, I still have many great memories. But the clock is ticking and I think the game will be over sooner than most here expect.
I would say I agree partially with that. I'm starting to be, at the very least, in disagreement with how the patch update cycle.
I think they will never do F2P - because F2P = means FAIL. What they can do, is what Anarchy online do. Make some content free (extended trial). Now trial is to level 20, which sux. BUT If they make Trial to level 70 (basic land + TBC) it will be HUGE, many mmorpgs will be pushed to do something more, offer more, because many people know wow is good even if they are not playing, but with this offer, they will come and try it. + TBC will be populated again + People will be able to look on new azeroth which is really cool too, no one offer free NEW content (I dont have subs open now, so if anyone can make this topic on official forums, I will be glad)
rankorr - rofl, yes people hate this game. cause its so- dumb- easy mode (for dumb american kids) - does not have what we love on wow anymoreSince 1st expansion this game only lost subscribers, never rise. I mean yes, sometime little there and little there, if they do like "buy wow subs for 1 year and u will have it free cause we will give u D3" or "scroll of resurrection which means 1 level 80 with free epix and all datadiscs free" But truth is at end of TBC I read they lost about 1 mil peopleat start of wolk they got it back, cause wotlk was great, but they start losing it after 3.2 when they turning it into easy mode. so at end they lost 2.5 mega AND in cata they got only like 500k back !they now lost 1.9M and will get maybe around 500k back? I dont think so. Many people hate pandas and hate chinese style. Wow have own style, dont need chinese style. So at the end. this game will be f2p or shut down in next 2-3 years.Long story short. when wotlk started they had 11 mio people. now they have 9 mio. And that is only official info.. like in swtor "we have 1 mio people" but then someone count it with script and found they have around 200k ppl online at peak time. Blizzard is CLOSING servers and there is merge behind doors. 50% of servers are low population..
1.1 million in a quarter....wow. Quite a hit.I would be curious - how is the overall MMO market doing?
Dominated by WoW? Windows are dominating too, but no one will even try to talk its best. Wow is most played game cause its easy mode, its basic game for kids and noobs. Everyone who find mmorpg will play it.. and then leave it for more difficult/adult games with better content (housing, pvp etc)wow is not sandboxwow dont have housingwow dont have shipswow dont have real world pvpwow have only quests and raids. and that is not enough. not for skilled players.
