Jeez...some people are just NEVER satisfied. (referring to the people complaining above me, the first few entries.) Haven't you three ever heard the phrase, less is more? We've had a dragon in the last two expansions, it's a welcome change I think. Besides, you forget it's a LOGIN screen. Those are not really supposed to scream "Excitement". It honestly fits the theme of the expansion well, IMHO.Well, it's an aesthetic feature so opinions will vary. Give us all a bit of leeway for individual thoughts, please?I think a login screen should most definitely should scream, roar, and inspire all sorts of excitement. The Classic login did this by showing us the Dark Portal which had started the whole Orc vs Humans war in the first place. Burning Crusade gave us new excitement by showing us the other side of that portal, and giving us a view of a world not yet explored. Wrath of the Lich King gave us another unexplored area, and tossed in a frost wyrm whose significance we pondered (and loathe) until the last raid tier. Cataclysm threw Deathwing in our face to show us just what we were up against in this new struggle. If it wasn't supposed to inspire that we'd have a black screen with nothing more than a few bars for our account name, password, and authenticator code. Almost all games follow this trend. They want you to be excited to play their game from the moment you laugh the program. We simply find this one lackluster in comparison to the theme they've used previously. While I would love to see something along the lines of a war torn field (a throwback to the Warcraft III login in a way), I think it really just needs something more animated to it. Not literal animation necessarily, but just something that will make you think about what you're about to jump in to.
yup...its missing something.
Besides, you forget it's a LOGIN screen. Those are not really supposed to scream "Excitement".Actually, a login screen really should inspire. It's the first thing you see when you load the game, and if it is dull and boring, it will blunten your enthusiasm and interest before you've even typed in your password.I spend maybe a total of 3 seconds looking at the login screen. I don't care what it looks like, it could be a giant black square for all I care, so you're wrong.
looks fine. all they need now is a Panda monk to go across doing Kung-Fu moves. that would make it epic.
Love it!After years of a dragon screaming at me, something a bit more subdued. It really underscores how MoP is back to being about exploration and discovery and not "gear up to kill this one enemy."
It's been missing for two expansions. But now we finally have it back. We finally have an archway back. Hell frigging yeah. <3
I was thinking the MoP screen would be a lot more... green. Why?Edit: Also; the falling blossoms are nice and calm.
I think it's nice. It makes me feel like I'm standing before imposing monuments, which is the general impression I get when playing through MoP zones.
Feels very bland. The colors are all too light and washed out. Lacks depth.
I like it, but I would much rather enjoy a feature in which I can choose which login screen from the past such as Vanilla log in screen (WHICH WAS VERY PLAIN AND SIMPLE) but also cool.
I like it. Brings back that "gateway" feel that the vanilla and TBC login screens had.IMO; the login screen should ALWAYS be an entryway of some sort. A portal, a doorway, a gateway, ect.We are quite literally momentarily stepping out of our regular boring world, and entering a virtual magic fantasy land. As such, its fitting that we do so via a Virtual Door of some sort. This is why I never really liked the WOTLK or Cata login screens, they lacked that "Step inside" vibe. The MoP login screen may not have an actual portal, nor actual pandarens, but it is still an entryway, daring us to step inside. So, I approve. May all the future Login screens also feature an entryway of some sort.
That looks awesome. I'm still not too keen on the idea of Pandas as a race but hey, we have to go somewhere from Cata! All in all looks like a good Xpac. Ill at least be playing for another year lol (Damn you Tyrael's Charger!)
Besides, you forget it's a LOGIN screen. Those are not really supposed to scream "Excitement".Actually, a login screen really should inspire. It's the first thing you see when you load the game, and if it is dull and boring, it will blunten your enthusiasm and interest before you've even typed in your password. It's the first thing you see - every goddamn time you load the game, yes. Remember the WotLK login screen, where you scrambled to enter your data before Sindragosa roared?
I miss the original login screen... I wish they would put in an option to switch between each expansion...
I spend maybe a total of 3 seconds looking at the login screen. I don't care what it looks like, it could be a giant black square for all I care, so you're wrong. The login screen is not there to be admired while you type your password in. It is there to create an impression, and if you don't realise that images around you are creating impressions in your mind, then you're vulnerable to every trick that people, who do understand this, use. Even your black square is making an impression - black is often associated with elegance and sophistication. Simple black designs can be very effective.Your next assignment is to rationalise, and explain the effect of the Golden Ratio. ;)blunten? is that a real word? I would think that the whole don't judge a book by its cover addige could be used here.. but anyway I like it so far. I'm sure it will be iterated on a bit before releaseThe word is "adage". ;) Somehow, I just prefer to use "blunten" than "blunt", because "blunt" is the adjective and the verb. Call me 'weird'.Actually, judging the book by the cover is exactly what this is all about. First impressions matter, it's only after consideration that they may be over-turned. The commercial artists, advertisers and package designers, have their industries built around creating favourable impressions. This is why I never really liked the WOTLK or Cata login screens, they lacked that "Step inside" vibe.Absolutely! With the stone walls and the scorching dragon, I thought that the Cataclysm login screen yelled, "GTFO!". Wrath's was a bit more engaging, it had perspective and walkways that would lead your eye into the image, until that damn dragon destroyed further exploration. I wonder, and maybe I'm over-thinking now, but I wonder if the login screen had any affect on the general impression that people have had of Cataclysm?
Yay no dragon! I hated WotLK's and Cata's login screens, prefer the simple serenity of Vanilla's and BC's. This appears to be in that vein, too :)I completely agree with this.
i like the new login screen, but i like Cata's login screen better. dragon and some fire. like my fire. lolu want to see a login screen u wont like, look at Coh's login screen atm. it has been nicknamed "Statesman crotch cannon". i despise the login.but the WotLK login was good too. The BC login screen is also one of my fav's too. liked the look and feel of it
Soon™... so soon!
I think there needs 2 be an chinese dragon in it that just fly's around randomly
