I am unsurprised. I'm also prone to take this statement at its word unless we see games starting to be pushed back (more than usual). Layoffs are always sad news, but sometimes a company as wide and multi-armed as Blizzard does need a bit of re-structuring. They also have a lot of open positions right now on their jobs page, most of them indeed in development areas. People will herald the death of Blizzard over this, but I think that's grossly hyperbolic.
Wow thats crazy
Sorry to hear this. I've been through downsizing in companies and it's never good for morale, or especially the people being let go.I feel for them.Cheers.
I trust blizzard to take care of the people it lays off like i trust them to produce good game. God speed to those affected.

People posting they hope people got fired, naming names, or otherwise making light of this will be temporarily suspended if they continue to after this warning. It is never cool to joke about layoffs, especially in this economy, and I sincerely hope that you realize the gravity of your words. It's incredibly disappointing to me that anyone thought this would be acceptable to do to a person, let alone on Wowhead, where we have always had a nice community.
To be fair, there's a massive difference between losing one's job after working in admin, then applying for jobs during the highest rates of unemployment for decades and bragging about yachting holidays. That said, I honestly don't think there was anything wrong with Cataclysm quest design. I've quested from Vanilla to Cataclysm and I have to say that the only element missing from Cataclysm questing that was present prior to this expansion is staring at a mount or a taxi for half an hour while travelling between continents.
What a sad, sad event. Having ended up on both sides of layoffs, I remember how horrible the experience is for everyone in the company. Best of luck to those who lost their jobs, and here's hoping that it works out okay for all of them.
Sucks to get canned, but before people go all up-in-arms, remember you have no idea what's being cut (aside from knowing it's 'not development'... and aside from the poster here claiming to have been an ingame GM...scratching my head at that one if it's true).Blizz is a pretry big company, it's more than likely they're cutting crap from departments they don't need or are redundant in some way, which any smart company will do regardless of how huge or small. As for the guy bagging on GC...honestly man do people still think that Greg just decides to nerf YOUR class, just to piss you off? Grow up. Economy's in the tank, losing a decently-paying job blows...but rest assured they probably knew about it and had arrangements made long before the press release, plus severance packs and all that.
I've removed a few posts from the topic that call for specific people to lose jobs (and replies that only refer to removed posts). References to specific individuals are not appropriate so please steer clear of that sort of thing.
